- Assembling a new PC can be a fun and rewarding project! Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:
Components Needed:
Case
Power Supply (PSU)
Motherboard
CPU (Processor)
CPU Cooler (stock or aftermarket)
RAM (Memory)
Storage (HDD or SSD)
Graphics Card (if not using integrated graphics)
Operating System (OS) installation media
1. Install the CPU
Open the CPU Socket: Lift the lever or latch on the motherboard’s CPU socket.
Insert the CPU: Align the CPU with the socket (check for notches or a triangle to guide placement). Gently place it into the socket.
Secure the CPU: Lower the lever or latch to lock the CPU in place.
2. Install the CPU Cooler
Position the Cooler: Place the cooler over the CPU, aligning it with the mounting holes.
3. Install RAM
Open RAM Slots: Release the clips on either side of the RAM slots.
Insert RAM: Align the RAM module with the slot (notches will guide it) and press down until it clicks into place.
4. Install the Motherboard
Prepare the Case: Install standoffs in the case that match the motherboard mounting holes.
Position the Motherboard: Align the motherboard with the I/O shield and standoffs.
Secure the Motherboard: Use screws to fasten the motherboard to the standoffs.
5. Install Storage Drives
Mount Drives: Insert HDDs or SSDs into their respective slots or brackets.
Secure Drives: Use screws or tool-less mounting mechanisms to secure them in place.
6. Install the Power Supply
Position the PSU: Place the PSU into its designated spot (usually at the bottom or top of the case).
Secure the PSU: Fasten it with screws.
7. Connect Power Cables
24-Pin ATX Cable: Connect the large 24-pin cable from the PSU to the motherboard.
CPU Power Cable: Connect the 4+4-pin CPU power cable to the motherboard.
SATA Power Cables: Connect SATA power cables to the PSU and to your storage drives.
PCIe Power Cables: If you have a dedicated graphics card, connect the necessary PCIe power cables.
8. Install the Graphics Card
Open Expansion Slots: Remove the corresponding expansion slot covers from the case.
Insert the Graphics Card: Align the card with the PCIe slot and press it down until it clicks.
Secure the Card: Use screws to fasten the card to the case.
9. Connect Internal Cables
Front Panel Connectors: Connect cables for the power button, reset button, HDD LED, and USB ports to the motherboard.
Case Fans: Connect any case fan cables to the motherboard or fan headers.
10. Install the Operating System
Prepare Installation Media: Use a USB drive or DVD with the OS installation files.
Boot the System: Insert the installation media and boot the PC. You may need to enter the BIOS/UEFI and set the boot order to prioritize the installation media.
Follow Installation Prompts: Follow the on-screen instructions to install the OS.
11. Final Checks
Cable Management: Tidy up cables and ensure proper airflow.
Verify Connections: Double-check all connections and components are secure.
Test the System: Power on the PC and make sure everything is functioning correctly. Enter the BIOS/UEFI to verify that all components are recognized.
