We can all see the imagery of the three gifts that Jesus was given. Here's my question though, what prophecy in the Old Testament were the Magi reading about the death of the Messiah? In other words they brought him myrrh and did they know that was for his death and if so where were they getting that from?
Great question. We should have outlined some of those on the show. Here is a small sampling... Isaiah 53:5-6, Psalm 22:16-18, Zechariah 12:10, Daniel 9:26, Jeremiah 11:19, and others. Even the opening promise of the gospel in Genesis 3:15 promises that the Savior will crush the head of the serpent, but he will also be stricken by the serpent (presumably with a mortal bite).
Jesus was born on Sunday, March 1, 7BC. He was born in the latter reign of Herod the Great. Herod died in 4 BC. Jesus should have been born in September. He was given the 15th of September for his official birthday and to be in line for Messianic requirement. He was born in Bethlehem of Judea, a residential complex a kilometer from Qumran. It was originally a palace for Hasmonean royalty. It was called the Queen's House. Because animals were stabled there, it was also called the 'Manger'. /// When Jesus was 12 years old, (Luke's account of the birth 12 years later in 6 AD), he went through a ceremony equivalent to the Orthodox Bar Mitzvah, a ceremony where a boy was formally separated from his mother. When Mary 'brought him forth' she was re-enacting the ceremony as a kind of 2d birth. When Jesus was 'wrapped in cloths' he was being clothed in the ceremonial vestment.///Here is the 'Shepherds in the field' scenario. Down at Ain Feshkha, the 'farm', the Shepherds or pastors (village teachers) were meeting for the equinox. The 'Angel of the Lord', Simeon the Abiathar-Gabriel priest, also called Simon the Essene, came to them and announced the new regime, and that the 12 year old Jesus would continue the succession. The ministers sang a hymn of praise and declared the new policy 'Peace on earth'. /// The West Manasseh Magi were a priestly caste of Samaritan philosophers founded in 44 BC by Menahem and later led by Simon Zelotes/Magus The Magians were Joseph's political associates. They came to hail Jesus as the newest member of the David dynasty. They visited Jesus in September 7 BC when he was 6 month old.
