I can always use a coaching video to stop my flipping slice! Every time I think I get it under control, it pops its ugly head again. Or striking irons pure.
Hey Pete...... I'm a 14 handicapper.....play OK but have always struggling with this shot......yesterday I played my local and shot 3 over...... my best score ever!!!!!. Happy golfer. Great advice thanks.
Had a round where I had a few tight lies to deal with and didn’t end up well. Got me thinking “I should see if there’s a video on this I can learn from” and here we are! Thanks Pete!
I have been screwing around with this shot for YEARS. Everyone seems to have a different style for doing this. Yours was absolutely the most simple, basic way to hit that lob shot consistently.
My favourite of all your videos, Pete! Your sense of humour shines through on this one. Thank you for the excellent advice. Has not one to practice with my 3-wood more.
Great video Pete. The average golfer uses too must wrist hinge around the greens especially off tight lies. They take 60 right away and it's all down hill for most of us. Really nice set of options and tips on using the 60 for tight lies. Awesome!
Thanks Pete, as you said, made it look simple and I’m sure it won’t feel like that when I try but love the 3-4 solid tips that I can focus on to give confidence to strike it... decelerating is always the killer, but I do that when nervous of the strike....
Thanks for the great content - this vid & the chipping over bunkers gave me some things to work on (in the house off the carpet from one room to the next down the hall), and it helped on the course. My home course has a lot of trees, and that gives 2 scenarios. 1 -the rock hard bare earth ground - chipping off that is a nightmare, as the bounce of the club isn't your friend. 2 - out of the rough, trying to keep the ball low enough not to climb into the branches of a tree, and have a result like Molinari in the 2019 Masters... Because, if I'm missing the green, I'm not landing on fairway conditions...
Such a fan of your content Peter! Been subscribed for quite a while now and as such has inspired me to try get back into the beautiful game of golf, hopefully can get myself a set of clubs soon and put your tips to practice. Appreciate all your work my friend!
Any chip with a fluffy lie I'm quite comfortable with, but even with the putting style I still duff the odd one on a fairway lie. So I've taken to using my hybrid. No duffs and I'm getting better at judging the distance. Great vid :)
Great advice pete. U matt fryer and rick shiels are helping me enjoy my golf more than I ever did coz I'm actually hitting it good now thanks and keep up good work!!
I've spent most of lockdown chipping off a piece of wool carpet into a bucket 15 yards away. I say into ... mostly near ... ish. And knifing some into the fence ... but less and less over the weeks. I have definitely got better at it.
I absolutely love your anticipation of potentially holing it, then the reaction when it just misses. Makes me giggle every time 😂😂 Keep up the great vids mate!
Do you need to take a divot off a fairway iron? I find I play a better shot if I just stroke the ground under the ball. Is that ok? I don’t mean in this case, but say a 120 yard shot off a good lie on the fairway.
As nice as it is to see the ball check up, if you're pitching that's not what you want unless you play for that on every shot. As Pete was demonstrating, consistency is the name of the game. I played a round this morning on a course that has wide fringes. I had totally forgotten about the fairway club! I utilized this years ago while I was improving my short game. As I improved I left the 5w in the bag. Time to dust off the green side wonder.
Feel like the second to last shot shows the problem: where a medium length iron will give you decent results for no risk, there's always the possibility to hit it long/duff it with this shot. I practice it often, but almost solely use it when there's no other option
Great vid Pete, I've found that I'm using my putter a lot more in these dry firm conditions from off the green, if the grass is growing away from me the ball rolls over it nicely, if the grass is growing towards me I find the PW best for chips with good spin control. Keep up the great work 😎⛳
i think these are the only type of chips i never mess up ironically , but wedge play is the one aspect of my game i’ve always been confident in. Long irons and woods are my weakness. 6 iron - 3 wood
We said, you listened 👍 great vid Pete and love how invested you get in it. Cheers and keep em coming. Bunker shots next please, especially with little sand in them?
Yeah, those example spots should be putts, fairway/hybrid chips, or mid-iron chips all day for the average player. That being said, it's also good to get the practice in with the wedge for that short-sided tight lie below the surface of the green type chip shots. Also a good reason for having a high bounce wedge and a low bounce wedge in your bag.
Hey Peter would you mind doing your next video on pitch shots? Like 30-50yd-ish? Do you take a divot? Don’t take a divot? How do you play them? Great video by the way!
Hi Pete, great vid. Do you think that the bounce angle makes the leading edge sit above the ground on a bare lie meaning that you will always hit it off the bottom grove unless you take the bounce off the club
Helped heaps mate thanks , thicker rough though causes few dramas I seem to pick a landing zone but over hit them,is this all feel and practice or is there a secret ,
First of all your first option was the best always putt when you can if you have rough fringe to go through I use a 9 iron or PW not because of the loft but because of the bounce angle. A PW or 9 iron have very little bounce and less likely to thin the shot where as a high lofted club ie 60 degree has as much as 14 degrees of bounce and off a tight lie will come up off the turf and blade it across the green
Have to say I would tend to use my #5-hybrid or 7-iron for that sort of shot in my normal game That said I'll give the wedge option a bash as soon as I can get to the practice area Cheers!
Thanks for the video. With this shot, my thoughts are "soft hands" and "relax right arm" otherwise i come across the ball or thin it. One question though: can you repeat this video in February after a week of rain and the near-green area is a big spongy mudpit? thx
Great video and tips made me laugh "glid through, glide through" "why am I not holing them?, why am I complaining about not holing them? Im spoilt that's why" funny Pete. When I use the wedge in a tight lie hit a good shot close and forget how I done it being happy I done that thank you for reminding me how to do it
Like the point about aiming a few feet past the hole when using putter. I'm never sure how much extra to allow to deal with the fringe, so will try this one. My 60 has 14 deg bounce. Is this too much for this type of shot?
Good instructions Pete - when faced with this shot on the course, I often forget "method" and variously play it off the rear foot and/or exaggerate the shaft lean (with hands forward). Why do the short-game maestros like, say, Phil Mickleson play type of shot with a lot of wrist hinge or stunted follow-through? Is it just a case of their greater feel/skill or personal quirk?
Use a 9 or 8 iron if you’re not comfortable using a wedge. I was playing with a cat 1 golfer today, he said forget about practicing the long game. You need to practice putting & chipping every day, an hour to two hours. it’s so important. Most important part of the game: golf is all about the short game.
I think you need to practice all aspects of the game. You can have a world class short game but doesn't help much if you're constantly in the trees off the tee and can't hit a mid or long iron to save your life.
Thanks for this posting! Do you always hit it with a square face? I find it just a little easier with the face a touch open. Also, what wedge are you using (loft and bounce)?
Fantastic advice and suggestions, but there is a big difference between knowing what to do, and actually being able to do it. I haven’t been able to chip or pitch for 15 years.
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING! Big thanks once more for spending your time with me. Let me know which coaching videos you want to see next and please LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE if you haven't already

Quality vid as always Pete as well. Now that Rick is at a million subs, we need to get you there too!
a video on shot shaping hitting them draws and fades please peter.
Great video - playing golf tomorrow and Saturday so let's see how it goes. Thanks Pete
Another great video! I love the diversity around the greens. Can't have too many tools in the bag.
Hey Pete...... I'm a 14 handicapper.....play OK but have always struggling with this shot......yesterday I played my local and shot 3 over...... my best score ever!!!!!. Happy golfer.

One of the funniest videos😂 out of the 4 options that final LB shot and your reaction is just
beautiful! Lol 😂

Needed this video before this morning's round. Must try the fairway wood.
I’ve found my three hybrid is great for this also.
Agree with grant. Hybrid is even easier. I hybrid putt and bump/run with a hybrid quite often. It is remarkably consistent and easy to do.
I have no hybrids so will have to try a fairway wood.
Great alternative videos from Rick.
Nice to see a different view and angle to approach shots. I enjoy the videos of you two playing a round
Any chip with a fluffy lie I'm quite comfortable with, but even with the putting style I still duff the odd one on a fairway lie. So I've taken to using my hybrid. No duffs and I'm getting better at judging the distance. Great vid :)
I believe I was one of the 4 highlighted comments who asked for that instruction , thanks Pete 🤘🏻
Great advice pete. U matt fryer and rick shiels are helping me enjoy my golf more than I ever did coz I'm actually hitting it good now thanks and keep up good work!!
I used the second option two times today!! Lots of good tips Peter!!
i only got into golf for the scope of innuendos possible...so love this video. keep up the good work pete!
The last chipping video helped me a lot. I hate this shot but I'm getting better at it little by little.
Cant believe how much this video helped me in my round yesterday! Thank you Pete!

Cheers for this Mr Finch - really helpful tips that saved several shots for me yesterday!
Great tips Pete, thanks! I'll be trying them tomorrow morning.
Awesome info. 4 options, I'll give them a try. The word you were after is guideded...probably. Keep doing what you do!
Love the tips and tricks you have in your arsenal. Keep up the great videos Mr. Finch
I needed this and it was awesome. Thanks Peter
I always thought i had to hit down on the ball to create that spin. Awesome tip, has helped my game more than any other tip this summer!
Beautiful Peter ... Speed is the key 👍👍

Great tips on how to play that shot from those tight lies.

Great video will watch over and over on the 60 deg shot
Pete! Your videos are magic. I really appreciate the great content you are putting out

Will still be here when you reach 1 million subs. Keep it up Pete 🔥
Played today after this and really helped thanks Peter
Good video Pete. Using my cobra hybrid around the green is a dream
We said, you listened 👍 great vid Pete and love how invested you get in it. Cheers and keep em coming. Bunker shots next please, especially with little sand in them?
Thanks Peter, another great stripped to simple lesson and as always FUN (loved the talking club comment!!!)

Great vid again, your previous similar vids av helped me loads on the course, espicially the shoulder turn
Super Peter THANK YOU I needed this so badly
Gonna try that wood option. Looked easy and smooth
thanks pete, will try it later if i get close to the green.
Hey Peter would you mind doing your next video on pitch shots? Like 30-50yd-ish? Do you take a divot? Don’t take a divot? How do you play them? Great video by the way!
I recently got a chipper putter combo that I find helps with tight lies. You get that little elevation of an iron but swing it like a putter.
Id be interested to see a tutorial about hitting punches and low shots with irons. Always good to be able to get out of tree trouble. Cheers Peter!
Thanks for some great advice Pete! It's been a while since you showed us how to play proper golf 👍
Used to hate this shot, now it's one of my favorites. Got to have confidence in it!
Please can you do a bunker video? Around the greens or fairway bunkers, much needed.
A little bit tight and super wet.. golf continues to have the greatest innuendos
Great video! Cant wait to practice this!
Rick Shiels and Peter Finch are by far the most entertaining golf channels on TH-cam....
I love how excited you get even though it’s not a match, what a great game eh 👍🏻🏌🏻♂️⛳️ top stuff
Hi Pete, great vid. Do you think that the bounce angle makes the leading edge sit above the ground on a bare lie meaning that you will always hit it off the bottom grove unless you take the bounce off the club

Great video Pete thankyou 👍 😀
"If the club starts talking to you, you're in trouble", lol. Lov e the videos Pete and if I can stop laughing long enough, I'll put the tips to use.
What is meant by: avoid wrist hinge? I see Pete's wrists bending quite a bit at top of backswing with wedge shot
Thanks for the video. With this shot, my thoughts are "soft hands" and "relax right arm" otherwise i come across the ball or thin it.
One question though: can you repeat this video in February after a week of rain and the near-green area is a big spongy mudpit? thx
My go to option is a 9 iron bump and run over the perimeter and have it roll out. Defiantly my go to option that I am most comfortable with.
Great video tip Pete. Would love to see the ‘4 amigos’ back out playing together sometime (You, Rick, Matt and Andy).
I did as you asked and "Smashed the Like Button",.........just off to the computer shop to get my smashed button repaired!
Brilliant video. I can actually chip now !!
Great video, needed this 3 weeks ago when the fairways were so baked 😬
Great video and tips made me laugh "glid through, glide through" "why am I not holing them?, why am I complaining about not holing them? Im spoilt that's why" funny Pete.
When I use the wedge in a tight lie hit a good shot close and forget how I done it being happy I done that thank you for reminding me how to do it
spending too much time on my own 😆
😂
Tight, wet is a tough shot but add into the grain and that is a situation that will add shots to your score.
Like the point about aiming a few feet past the hole when using putter. I'm never sure how much extra to allow to deal with the fringe, so will try this one. My 60 has 14 deg bounce. Is this too much for this type of shot?
Can you tell us more about the SmithWorks wedge please?
Good instructions Pete - when faced with this shot on the course, I often forget "method" and variously play it off the rear foot and/or exaggerate the shaft lean (with hands forward). Why do the short-game maestros like, say, Phil Mickleson play type of shot with a lot of wrist hinge or stunted follow-through? Is it just a case of their greater feel/skill or personal quirk?
Are you using smithworks wedges Pete? If so could you do a full in depth review on them please! Cheers! great video!
Please elaborate on your feet and club face alignment with the Lob Wedge...open and open or both square to your target?
Use a 9 or 8 iron if you’re not comfortable using a wedge. I was playing with a cat 1 golfer today, he said forget about practicing the long game. You need to practice putting & chipping every day, an hour to two hours. it’s so important. Most important part of the game: golf is all about the short game.

3:03 - "A little bit wet and then super tight" - Sounds perfect to me :D
Thanks for this posting! Do you always hit it with a square face? I find it just a little easier with the face a touch open. Also, what wedge are you using (loft and bounce)?
Hey pete, what about the less manicured part of the rough when your ball is resting ever so comfortably after a "knob" of grass...
Fantastic advice and suggestions, but there is a big difference between knowing what to do, and actually being able to do it. I haven’t been able to chip or pitch for 15 years.
how do you gauge distance when using a 3 wood or hybrid to chip- - cos in my expereince the ball comes off so much hotter than a putter
kavit nathwani .....Step 1: go find a putting green and figure it out. Step 2: don't hit it as hard.
Great video helped me alot
5:11 " Ahh stop it! Pete"😂😂😂
You're right. When it's a little bit wet and super tight it does make it harder..
THANK YOU!
When chipping from a tight lie around the green is more bounce or less bounce more forgiving?
Impetus is such a fine word
one of the finest
Which wedge are you using there Pete? Doesn’t look like your Vokey
How much bounce should be used? I have a sand wedge with 12* bounce and it seems like it doesn't work that well.
