    The original B/W body is known as the Azusa Frank shape. KNE guitars offers this shape.
    Years ago Dimarzio was selling these bodies. The bought them from Charvel in azusa and then sold them as a dimarzio replacement body. They used to be on Ebay for under $100 until word got out! LOL

    • @Chirbeef
      @Chirbeef 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      'Azusa' refers to the shop Wayne Charvel had in Azusa California. The Frank body was made by Wayne Charvel and Dave Schecter in a batch of 100 bodies over a weekend when Lynn Ellsworth was temporarily unavailable to produce them for Wayne. Wayne was just distributing bodies at this time and wasn't capable of making them himself, but he had a contract with a sales firm to fulfill the order of 100. Lynn was a traveling oncologist and only worked on guitars part time. Dave Schecter was local to Wayne and was a friend who was also in a contract with the same sales firm (International Sales Associates) - in fact, the company was formed specifically to help Dave distribute his guitars and Dave was who got Wayne on board with them. Wayne essentially asked Dave for a favor to help him produce this batch of bodies so he didn't get in hot water with ISA due to Lynn's unavailability. Dave cleared out his shop for a weekend and the two of them busted out 100 Ash bodies with Dave's equipment, templates, etc. Many of these bodies are stamped in the control cavity with a Charvel stamp, but they are just Schecter bodies in essence. Dave may have also distributed some of his own bodies through DiMarzio at that time, which would have had the same exact shape and features. I own a late 70's Schecter stamped body and it is a dead ringer for the Frank - absolutely no denying that they were made from the same templates.
      It's always crazy to me how all of these late 70s, early 80s luthiers are so interconnected. From DiMarzio, to Seymour Duncan, to Mighty Mite, to Charvel, to Boogie Bodies (now Warmoth), they all had connection and Ed was often at the center of it.

      @@These_go_to_eleven_1959 I've been researching this guitar for about 14 years and have spoken to just about everyone involved. I have long writeups on the history of Dave Schecters involvement, a video where Wayne talks about the batch of 100 bodies he did with Dave, actual Schecter bodies and actual Lynn bodies from the era, I've spoken to Lynn - who swears he made it but frankly, as much as I respect that sweet old man and everything he did for luthierie, he had no way of knowing which bodies went where after he sold them to Wayne and he's simply mistaken on having made the body. He did however build a majority of necks that ever went on the Frank along with other bodies and necks for Ed.
      Comparing a 1976/1977 pattern Lynn body to a Schecter body to the Frank, it's really no mistaking. I've 3d scanned and modeled all of them in association with Locke Custom Guitars, and we made the body and neck in the video, and using all of this data and the info we have on record, those are the conclusions I've come to

    I have always preferred the B/Y Charvel because in fact that is the one that Charvel really used as a template and
    was the have to have super strat back in the early 80's.
    No pickguard, one hum, one knob and graphics. But i do love the B/W one
    i just prefer the more professionally made Charvel on VH II. Eddie did not build the B/Y as he made claim to. it was already made for him when he got it. there is photographic proof of this plus you can see it was professionally made when he first got it from Charvel. This one unlike the first one was 100% Charvel.

I'm building a couple of those right now from scratch, I have a guitar shop 1 is a replica as close as I can get even down to matching the wood grain and where the birdseyes are located in the maple, had to go through tons of maple stock to get close matches. I'm also building a second one that has 22 frets and a spoke wheel in the heel trussrod just because I do really like the guitars EVH just released but there is a waiting list. actually Ed didn't paint his guitar black and white initially. There are photos of him playing it on stage with just a sealer coat and then painted straight gloss black (likely inspired by Claptons black strat). DLR claims to have given Ed the idea for stripes and Ed probably went with white because the gloss black made his amateur paint job look really bad.

      @@yourdrummer2034 Ash is incredibly plentiful but the Ash Borer is definitely a long term problem. The only real change to the economy of Ash lumber we've seen since the bug became a notable issue is that 'Swamp Ash' (or, in other words, Ash that is much less dense than is common, which is often found in swampy climates hence the name) is getting harder to find and more expensive. This stuff is sort of 'rare' so to speak to begin with, since it's only the lightest subset of Ash trees, and was already in very high demand for luthiers. Add that the bug is cutting down the general supply of Ash, and the market has been affected. I still pay the same as I always have for regular old Northern Ash though. Hopefully we find a solution before it's too late.

    I think most guitar players prefer the black/white version of Frankie. It just looks so bad ass, but without any kind of locking tuners or Floyd Rose locking system are there tuning problems? I’ve heard there is a technique to using the whammy bar and you can snap it back in tune. I’ve read a few interviews with Eddie and they said Eddie would literally throw Frankie in the back of his pick up or just lay it down on the floor, not worrying if he was damaging it, ha!
    I noticed the factory black/white guitars, the pick ups are not slanted.

    Very nice I'm in the process of gathering the parts for my frankie build its taking awhile but going to be very worthwhile. I actually recieved a 84 floyd rose with a broken baseplate it was heartbreaking never even went on a guitar, i'm using a southern swamp ash body it weighs 4lbs exactly and a 22 fret unfinished maple neck i want to get all the parts dry assembled before jumping into the arduous process of paint/sanding. I almost can't bear the idea of taking a chisel or sanding sealer to this body but in lord edwards name i am compelled.

    Yours is definitely closer in all ways IMO than the 78’ that was recently released.
    I’ve just bought that guitar and plan on replacing the tuners w/Shallers and the pickup w/the Frankenstein.
    It took me a while to find one that I felt was acceptable and I got a better deal on it too.
    As much as I liked the Frankie as a kid, as an adult I began to really appreciate the 78’ even more as it was the beginning of so much history.
    The biggest foul that Fender/EVH committed here was to not use Ash in the guitar. I can abide the heel trussrod and the WG pickup.
    However, at $2k, that should have been the baseline.
    To your point these will only be produced for so long and then the prices in the wild will be extreme.
    I do get that they have a number of different versions and maybe they just didn’t want to cut into the interest of the higher end 78’ version but IMO the person buying the $2k version is not necessarily the same buyer.
    I understand that Fender wants and needs to make money but the details are important.
    It’s not like these guitars are really being bought by none “Eddie” fans.
    Your build is really great man!

  • @gabrielstern4992
    @gabrielstern4992 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Okay now I need to jump in and correct something about the Frakenstrat in all it's configurations and Eddie addressed this, several times and that's concerning the body it was not a, swamp ash body at all it was made of basswood and it was a, second that's why it only cost Eddie 50 dollars.
    The bumblebee charvel made for Eddie was made of ash.
    And the 2007 run of replicas chip Ellis made was made of ash wood because he never realized until he met eddie and actually saw the original Frankie that it was basswood but to be fair when the Frankie replica was presented to eddie he did say it felt better and sounded better than his Frankie.
    I am bringing it up because of the comment about the evh branded Frankie's bieng made of basswood instead of swamp ash and that's because chip Ellis this time wanted the guitar body wood per Eddie's instructions to be made of basswood just like the original Frankie.
    As for the first 2 van Halen records if you want Eddie's rythym tone all you need is an Ibanez destroyer with the stock bridge pickup in it to get Eddie's tone. And ohh you can get Eddie's lead tone with that pickup too and how do I know Adrian Smith of iron maiden used an Ibanez destroyer from 1981 until the iron maiden powerslave tour with that exact same stock pickup but adian Smith liked les Paul's too for which he still has that les Paul he has owned since 1978.
    But you can also get an Eddie like tone from a alder body guitar which is what randy Rhodes used with his jackson charvels.
    Heck of you really want to be authentic I could sell my trusty stock yamaha pickup from my basswood body yamaha rgx from 1987. And that defenetely has a Eddie tone.
    My point is with Eddie getting his tone is simpler than you think pickup wize and electronics wize and also the beauty of Eddie was you don't need to spend 2 grand to or even a thousand dollars to build a gear sounding guitar.
    Now of course Eddie would say do your own thing and never stop chasing great tone.
    But we need to stop spreading rumers and misinformation like Eddie's Frankie was made of northern ash or swamp ash or his kramer was made of Popler wood when Frankie was made of basswood and so were his kramers that he used now is it possible some of the initial kramers that were painted and Eddie tested may have been Popler absolutely but we keep forgetting with the exception of a few guitars Eddie's main stage guitar bodies were always made of basswood because that's what Eddie liked.
    Now in the studio a completely diferent story Eddie liked and used a ton of different guitars you would not even think he liked like strats and telecastors and les Paul's and Gibson es 335 s or like I mentioned the Ibanez destroyer before Eddie ruined it and it became the shark guitar.

    • @FinalResonanceTV
      @FinalResonanceTV  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What is your source that it was Basswood? I have heard that, however most people that have handled the Frankenstein including the writer’s at guitar world who I interviewed said it weighed in the range of a 79 Strat. Donnie Ward and Chris Locke who built me the neck and body are the absolute experts on the woods and the origin stories. Donnie was good friends with Lynn who built the body. I do have Michael Charvel in the cue, so I’ll will ask him directly about the wood. Yes I do know Ed preferred Basswood and I can look at the wood in High Def from the photos and videos of it I took at the Met. I do know the Destroyer was Senn Ash, not Korina cause I held the Holmes Destroyer in my hands and made sure to take pictures of the raw wood that was exposed. I have an 83 Ibanez with the stock “Super 80’s” which I’m sure isn’t that different than the 70s and they do have a bright but unique PAF quality to them. So I could definitely see that.

    • @gabrielstern4992
      @gabrielstern4992 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@FinalResonanceTV @FinalResonanceTV @FinalResonanceTV I know the replica was made of ash but if you look at the grain patern on the original Frankie it screams basswood and remember it was a, second that had a defect in the body I have held basswood guitars and yes the body by itself is light but maple is a heavier wood and I know those old school charvel and later jackson necks were built like boats so that can add a lot of weight too don't forget Eddie changed necks a lot on the actaul Frankie and how do you know that eddie did not play tricks and hand the guy referenced from guitar world one of his replicas and remember eddie did do things like that such as his kramer in the hardrock Cafe.
      Now I can believe the destroyer was made of ash before Eddie made it into the shark guitar and ruined it's tone.
      And I was just pointing out that the bridge pickup you hear all over the first 2 van Halen albums on the rhythms is a, stock pickup on the destroyer and how do I know adrian Smith of iron maiden also used an Ibanez destroyer that was red color up until 1983 with that exact same pickup he also used a les Paul too and a Gibson sg.
      Remember eddie was all about tone he liked things that sounded good.
      And remember Eddie was brutal to his guitars too so it would not suprize me if he tested necks and had them built super heavy like boats so they would not break or crack.
      Hope that helps clarify things.
      And the 5150 guitar from kramer was not popler wood either on the body it was also basswood but he had more than one and it is entirely possible that some of the early ones were made of popler but eddie never used them much.
      I also believe eddie may have had more than one Frankie remember kramer made a guitar that almost looked just like the Frankie for eddie around 1981 or 1982 that eddie used on the diver down tour.
      But that's the beauty of eddie was the mystery he left behind.
