      @@robc8936 Me too! March 31st 1984 in Madison Square Garden. I cant remember who opened? Not even positive that there was an opening band? But I wasn't 10....... I was 17 at that time. Getting ready to graduate H.S.. that coming June.
      Great memories! Although I did like the Diver Down tour better. Only because I had better seats tho.

    I was 13 in 1983 when I first started listening to Van Halen. A friend of mine came to me and said “Do you want to hear the best and baddest guitar solo ever?” I was like Sure! He put in a cassette and it was the first time I ever heard Eruption. Like everyone else, I was totally blown away and wondered how he made those sounds with a guitar.
    Eddie is also the reason why I got into playing the guitar. He will forever be the best guitarist ever in my book. It’s been 8 months and Im still mourning over this loss. He was my hero.
    To pay homage to Eddie, I ordered an EVH Frankie back in the middle of December which I should be getting at the end of June according to my Sweetwater rep. I ordered the correct reflectors for the back, I have a 1971 quarter, a #61071 aged neckplate and a German made Floyd Rose to install in it. I can’t wait to get it!
    But dude…you have THE holy grail of guitars! This was a great review and you did it right. Congratulations to you!
    There will never be another Eddie Van Halen. He brought so much to the guitar and music world. RIP King Edward. You are loved and missed by millions.

He was completely ecstatic about getting this guitar and I dont blame him. There are tons of people on here putting him down for dropping 25k on it. It's worth every penny to him. This was a longtime dream guitar of his and it was built while Eddie was still alive and he oversaw it's production. Lots of extra things with it that you can't buy elsewhere, I mean, that case is absolutely cool!!! Congrats my friend. Enjoy it despite the haters, its an absolutely beautifully done replica of a rock legend's iconic creation.

      Ed Van Halen built the original. He himself was not a master luthier. Anyone wanting one would realize that. It was built with attention to detail on the original build. It was a reject body with a bolt-on neck. Most custom shop builders could do that easily - and more. The details are in the paint, reflectors, quarter etc. Setup/ play, done.

    You'll like this little story. I saw Van Halen in Winnipeg Canada in 1979. During the show Eddie jumped off of a huge black box on the side of the stage that had to be at least 6' high. They were lunatics in those days. He must have tripped as he left the ground because he landed hard and flat on the stage face down on top of his guitar. The fall broke the neck of the guitar. That guitar hitting the stage while plugged into the arena volume amps was the loudest sound I have heard in my life to this day.
    Someone wrote about that fall a few years later. I don't know exactly what's true or what the specific details are but they wrote that the huge fall and the break had something to do him starting the rebuild of that guitar that became "Frank". I don't know as I said if any of that is true but if so it was a special moment and thankfully no elbows, wrists or shoulders were damaged in that fall!!!!!
    I Loved your version of Eruption on the video. You were so close to fooling me but I thought I heard a stereo signal or a doubling in there and my ear went.. hmmmm :-) but maybe that's on the original? I'm not the fan of Van Halen you are obviously but I definitely put in my time as a young man trying to learn to play like him ( no way that was happening haha ) . I think when he made that guitar he had someone like you in mind. Somebody who truly LOVES the music, loves the history, and plays, because it's all about the playing. Great video and thank you for sharing your seriously unique and amazing experience with this piece of music history. It was a privilege to see it.

I bought it because it honors one of my greatest idols, came with a letter from him, signed goodies, and the guitar was fully endorsed by him.. Never gonna happen again.. They are already up for sale for $65k - not that ill ever sell mine! To me it is tribute to EVH but also an acknowledgement or my own achievements in music which I attribute to the inspiration he gave me. Also I've built some awesome Franky inspired replicas which is also cool! Just very different than this guitar!

      @@HaydenMaringer Hey man, I'm glad that you have the means to buy a guitar that expensive, you're definitely doing life right and I'm happy for ya. I'm just saying from my perspective, those kind of guitars are some elusive pipe dream that I'd never consider buying, even though I could. If you look at what you actually bought: a swamp ash body, maple neck, floyd rose, a humbucker, dummy electronics and paint, that all adds up to about $1,200. Maybe a little over $3,000 considering it is a Fender custom shop technically. If you look at it's actually value, the 25k or 60k price just doesn't add up. I built a Frankenstrat replica of my own out of Warmoth parts that I'm very proud of because I built it myself just like Eddie did when he built his. Is it an exact replica, no. Is it extremely close, absolutely. Look, all in all you've got a really cool guitar and some great memorabilia that came with it, but if were me, I'd enjoy it for a while and sell it off. Money isn't everything but there's better things out there to invest it it

    I’m your number #500 comment . Congrats on the EVH Replica guitar! Eddie’s sweet baby “Franky” What a Score my Brother! Cherish that one forever man! It is the shit I know, right down to the flesh from his fingers lol. The previous owner is a flake! Or it’s a damn good copy from china. Enjoy your score, it’s let’s say “A Beauty”peace Dana Everhart💫☮️

    Never understood the 21 fret thing? Any answers on why some guys like Ed and Jake E. Lee preferred 21? I know Ed swapped that neck out for a 22 shortly there after but obviously he initially went with 21. But it begs the question....why 21?

    Really happy you were able to get one. Special day for you. I would love to know at 25k or 35k or 60k, is it exponentially more amazing and playable than the $1900 replica that came out recently? Maybe my question is rhetorical. I would enjoy hearing you plug it in and play a few things just to see the overall tone and versatility. Enjoyed the video.

    • @HaydenMaringer
      @HaydenMaringer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I look at it like this.. A non-EVH master built fender Strat will set you back 15k+. Its just the price of the hours or work into their craftsmanship and materials. The new replicas don't come close to this one. They are mass produced and imported with cheap parts. Still im sure play great! But this guitar is an extremely well built and playable instrument from one of the best master builders in the world. They spent hours and hours replicating every dent, etc. I mean.. when you look at the detail and work.. Its a lot. Im sure it plays better than Eds original and he has said it has!

    On a side note, when EVH was first building the Frankenstein he couldn't keep the tremolo in tune. He figured out if he taped some quarters behind the tremolo it would come back in tune. Thats where the quarters come in. And EVH used standard 9 slinky strings, and never cleaned the neck. Never ever clean the neck,.... ever.....

    I think it is awesome, but the fact that they went all the way to fully recrate it and they didn't even get the right oval reflectors is pretty weird, the original ones were grid and not diamond patterns. Still beyond amazing though! Congrats.

    • @HaydenMaringer
      @HaydenMaringer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe it was modeled off the current state of the guitar in 2007. If you look up photos from then and even now of the original Franky it has a newer looking Floyd and the screws are paint black looking not flat. Also the wear is pretty much only on the Low E trim beg like mine. Who knows!

    Con grats and con grats. I was 16 in 1978 I already played guitar , had the Boston poster hanging in my room loved the music of the era Frampton Comes Alive was my biggest influence till Van Halen. Back then I was a huge Sammy Hagar fan also. Along with many others. I would suggest playing a live show with music from across Eddies carear and include rare footage interview snippets. Invite Alex Michael Sammy Wolfgang whoever, and honor the band as well. Upload it !!! Do it big , do it rite. And make everyone else wish they would've done this darn good. That's what I would "LOVE" TO EXPERIENCE.
