    Been surfing for nearly 50 years and I don’t see this as a subclass. If you are in the water catching waves on anything you are surfing..it’s that simple. respect for those around us is the key. Having said that I see this as the next step in surfing given the crowds. It opens up a whole new world where sharing waves is not only possible but encouraged. I cant wait to get my foil and start learning… thanks for your vid’s as I have really enjoyed them.

    Awesome edit bro and got me even more frothing to test one out! Appreciate the safety rundown too, I can see how people would easily get too confident and get out of their depth!

    Thanks Josh! Especially for your views on ethics. I've been on foil assist for about 6 months and now on V2.
    Early on I was not very conscious of the issues with other surfers. But now I'm realizing how important it is as we can get so many more waves than others. I now avoid the lineup and go off to the side. Again thanks, great information

    Great video, great attitude on being respectful... And my advice is ignore the haters, there are some that will have issue with anything they don't “approve of” or outside their narrow views

    The most impressive thing is that you are using a prone board with the equipment... that´s just amazing!!! I think this is the future of foiling. Congrats!

    Cool stuff Josh. Responsibility, respect, being prepared and safety are always key for sure. Ben's phones at FD headquarters have to be ringing off the hook with Gen2 on the market. Stoked for FD. Thanks for the amazing educational vids. Keep charging.

    On shore, gusting 30s, powered, riding toward the right into the wind, low angle of attack upwind. See the wave, crank a hard heelside left turn, the wind comes under your board at the top and your lifted off the top. Finish the turn and land on the wave going downwind.. The more wind the better. Strapless and holding a lit candle.

    What a great time to be into Foiling. Foil Drive moving up to E-Foil benefits and E-Foils moving down to the benefits of unpowered Foiling. They will meet in the middle at some stage. 2024 is going to be a massive year. The ocean is a massive skatepark.

    With you on safety. With power comes responsibility! It’s not a
    matter of “if” something will go wrong, just a matter of when….and where. I’ve had controller issues twice over past couple of years on other electrified gear. It can be a long and lonely paddle back!

    I’ve returned to using the V1 controller, much longer runtime than the V2. I had a few sessions when the V2 went flat partway through the session.

    Very interesting, just like you I feel proud not using any assistance like that but it might be an alternative to the wing to go upwind. Maybe it could be even possible to use it to go upwind and then remove it, put it in a bag and go downwind with the sup. And of course it's very important to not disturb anyone while foiling, you spoke a nice message.

  • @henryhester1897
    @henryhester1897 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This will sell a lot of Gen2s. I’d love one but for the price, I’ll choose to struggle the old fashion way. Josh, your take is spot on regarding safety, the training, high on mast and most importantly your suggestion to not abuse the power. I get the prone board thing but rigged with your long bullet, it’s got to be quite the spectacle. I know, episode coming. 😉

    • @joshku1990
      @joshku1990  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Henry ! Appreciate the kind words . To be honest for me I see no need to strap it to the sup as with a paddle I find that fun , but with a prone it makes it a novelty . I think sup foil drive is great for people learning to sup

    Hey Josh, love your videos, I don't prone or sup foil but I've tried efoiling and I windsurf foil. The foildrive looks super cool and people are starting to use them with a sail or wing to get up in almost no wind. So much fun! Can I ask what tool you're using to screw your foil together?

    Great video Josh! For your your local upwind/downwind, if you had eg 12 knots, how far would you generally go upwind before turning downwind? Guessing 3-4 km? Obviously a lot factors eg battery life in the conditions (swell, wind swell etc) and safety. Just want to get a general sense of distance upwind in eg 12 knots. Thanks again for putting out a really great video.

    How tricky it is the motored upwind? 8:21 looks like the mast range is very narrow between the touchdown and clearing the motor. I wonder how difficult it is to ride low without losing speed or crashing
