I hope you found something useful from this video in sharing my learnings from the past 6 months of having the Gen 2 Max and Slim units and how I've used various combinations in my foiling.
I'd love to hear your experiences with the Gen2 so far in the comments and anything you think others could benefit from.
Check in the next week for part 2 covering downwinding with the Gen 2 unit followed by part 3 looking at tips and tricks with the Gen 2 that I've discovered over the past 6 months.
As always thanks for watching and have fun foiling.
You have a talent for video production Dave, awesome review/guide
Nice video and really useful. Gen2 is my jam shout out to all the team from Aotearoa NZ🤙
Yew!
Probably the most well done vid on Foil Drive Ive seen. Good job mate. Stoked (and waiting) for mine!
I'll take the compliment for sure haha. I still think the Girl in the Pink dress was my best work ;)
What a classy production. Great job , Dave, and always interesting.
Thanks geoff! was a great few sessions!
Agree with earlier comment, this is the best fd content so far, appreciated.
That's very kind of you. I think my girl in the pink dress video was still my best work ;)
Great video as always Dave. Thank you. Always look forward to your videos.
I am stoked on my gen 2 max but I do want to provide another perspective on the ‘almost every board works’ claim though. Not sure why this is still a debate. My Armstrong and FFB Fusion did not work well even when on the surface. I used the foam to fill the box.
I had to hold the remote against the board in very small sweet spots to make it work. It was not a good user experience as you would loose connection during the pop up if you moved your hand slightly off the sweet spot. Again with the board on the surface skimming along at full planning speed. Disconnecting would result in a full speed face plant.
It’s not a knock on gen 2 and the guys are working on a solution. It’s just physics/RF propagation. Carbon blocks RF. High carbon boards with carbon reinforced boxes don’t work as well as boards that have a direct path to the surface of the board with no carbon blocking the signal. I picked up a used KT drifter F and it is a huge improvement it has a plastic box. Works just like your board. Can actually hold the remote under water inches from the board and it still works.
Just sharing so other prospective buyers have realistic expectations. It’s an expensive purchase and it would be good to know if you might also need a board to go with this awesome piece of kit. Stooooooooked on my FD, just keeping it real.
Nah totally get the frustration as per my comments in the video. it would totally suck for you. Antenna is being released soon I'm told which will solve everything. I would still defend the way I structured the claim that almost every board works. If 95% of models out in the world work then that would be "almost every board" The number seems to be about 2 -3 % of models don't work.
Great discussion!
good content the improvement is noticeable.
Nice! On the shopping list thanks
yew!!! Hope you get it soon!
Legend Dave!! awesome video
Thanks for watching Stu!
So good been enjoying mine in the same way. It’s really allowed me to dial in bump reading and helping with pumping. I wanted to know how others are popping up on their FD your way of to knees then feet is the same as mine but I’ve seen other go straight away to their feet as if they were just regular proning which I’ve yet to figure out with the remote in one hand. Saw your motor had a bit of corrosion on it as well, Ive been treating my system with a salt-a-way soak just after flushing then submerged in a container of water for the ride home. Dry it off apply the lubricants, store in separate bags. It’s really not that much but my unit still looks brand new.
Good idea with the salt treatment!
Thank you for the video, I've always been on the fence regarding electric foils but the no wind day downwinder looks viable and the lack of wind last year is building a case as a kite/wing boy.
Great Video, Thanks Dave!!
Cheers Bud!
This is really helpful, thank you
Glad I can help :)
Excellent video thanks. Really useful info and some awesome footage.
Thanks mate. Ben Taylor is a beast on the camera.
Great video! Thank you!!
You are a gifted rider,, I am still learning on the fliteboard 100 with a 33 pound battery in flat water,,
This is a great style of content creation , nice vibe , I wanna foil drive , I also prefer my 80cm mast. Thanks for sharing
Thanks mate! Thanks for watching :0
I have been looking to buy the product for a long time, since the first versions.
This is the most successful informational video I have ever come across, and I have watched the company's videos and videos of other surfers. 👑
The video was a practical reference to using batteries with different strengths, lengths, weights, and reception difficulties of the remote control versus the receiver.
I wish you would upload more videos with technical details and practical recommendations for surfers.
Good luck with your work, and I will refer to the code you provided at my purchase.💪
Thanks mate! Huge effort this video so I appreciate it.
Agreed 👍 great video ocean brother!
Great video. Excellent explanations you do a terrific job thumbs up.
I think you are right, there is a ground effect underwatter. As it happens when a plane flies low.
Great video. Very informative.
Thanks James!
Great work mate
Love these vids your dong ❤
Just ordered one
Yew!!! So Good! Won't make it to tassie this year. Hawaii is eating up large chunks of money :( but next year or maybe late this year.
Great video mate
Yes Piros! Cheers Mate!
Awesome system!
Epic video mate!
Great detailed info Dave! Totally agree on 20cm cable with 90cm mast👍!
Also what you are saying about foil size 840cm and Board size I completely share. Go small😅.(took me a while though)
I've tried the 20cm and 15cm cable with 90cm mast and found also that with the 15cm cable you can turn with much more inclination 👍, more narrow.(not on your level of course😂)
My biggest worries before I got Foildrive Gen 2 had been that I could not carve narrow without touching with the pod. But it comes with finding the sweet spot as you say.💪
The 80cm +12cm cable sounds like my next wish for Christmas.😊
Like your videos! 🙏Stefan
Hi Dave really useful info. I’m about to throw some money at the foil drive and need to get a suitable board .AXIS are about to launch their new pump range either 50,60 or 70 ltr. I am the same weight as you and they have recommended the 70 ltr board however from your review it would seem I could go for the 50 ltr. Could I have thoughts as I don’t want to get a board that I will outgrow within a few sessions. I have kitefoiled a little bit in the past.
Hi, hope you don't mind if I jump in.😇
Stumbled on your question and just had a go on the Axis Foildrive Board 60l. In your weight range.
For me it felt too big.
Should have gone for the 50l. But I wanted to start on my 800cm front from flat water.
But I did have to work my way down starting with a 75lWing Board which I stayed on for 4weeks then I switch to a 45lBoard more prone shape and it started almost better. But in choppy conditions I was falling like 4days all day. So, yes once you're experienced you could go for the 50l. But starting out is probably easier on the 70l.😊 The Foildrive is for us non pros probably the best invention in foiling I'd gratefully say. 🙏
@@stefanfuhrmann-wt3zd Hi just saw your message! Had a moment of despondency as i ordered the 70l but thankfully you came good at the end!
@@markgransbury8377 That's amazing! I'd predict you be in the water every day from now on. It's so addictive! Have fun!
@@stefanfuhrmann-wt3zdCheers Stefan I’ll message in a few months and give you an update!
very helpful thank you
Do you think the gen2 is harder or easier to learn how to pump with a big pump foil and 40l board
Gen 2 will be easier because it's easier to repeat the processes over and over
How much does this set up cost?
Board foil and foil drive about 12k
@@davewestfoils ouy! good vid/editing; action shots to start always! nice work.
Awesome job on the video, definitely got something out of this video.
bro you rip
Really useful. Thanks
Cheers mate!
