This Downwind run is one of the longer runs you can do on the island of Oahu. I was lucky enough this day to join up with locals Ryan, Brian and Aaron. The run reminds me alot of the Maliko run in Maui and the most special part for me was coming in at Mokes and seeing the beautiful mountains on the shoreline.

Good vidéo but why the song it is annoying
Always love your long videos Josh..... Jimmy won the beach dismount hahhahaha
My friend, the content is beautiful, but the music does not fit the content. This is not a music clip or an Armenian DJ. Let's listen to Sut Al Bahr, Al Awaj, and Sayed Al Samak. It's just my opinion.

Land-based finish is a crazy b..... The race is decided in the water, not on dry land.

Hi Josh. Just saw the video of you and Casey "sup vs foil drive" where you test a bunch of code foils. Just wondering the dimensions of the Kruzer board used in that video. Thanks
It’s the 5’4 Kruzer
Does the foil have a propeller or motor or is it just momentum that powers it ?
Such an interesting view, my legs got tired just watching.
U guys are ballz
I’m just about to buy my first down wind board which I also plan on using as a sup foil board in the waves. I have my eyes on the it dragonfly surf edition. Slightly unsure of which size I should get. What do you guys think? 86kilos I can sup surf sinker boards I prone foil and connect about 5 waves before I tire out. I’m thinking either 110liter at 7’10 or the 120 liter at 8’. What are your thoughts? I’ll probably use it more for winging and sup surfing over down winding anyway. Also how much do you guys weigh and what size boards do you usually go for?
I weigh 80 and I like 105L , for what your talking about I rekon 7’6 would be good 😊
Очень опасно, белые акулы, австралия, очень страшно
I’m 86kg intermediate foiler! Should I go with the 5’4? Feel like I’m between 5’4&5’8. Pumped to test this out! Going to also use FDgen2 on it sometimes. Using Armstrong ha880/980 795Pmast w/ v tail stab. Appreciate any feedback
Zane shot himself in the foot by capturing some awesome tight drone angles, making the bumps bigger and helping Josh edge out the win.
Sick, will finally go do my first downwind with paddle today, thanks Josh for keeping my inspired for the last year to train baby steps 🥳
Have fun!
Zane's turns look more radical. It seems easy and smooth for both of you. So just a little preference for Zane.
I think this one goes to Josh but the swell looked bigger on Josh's run whereas Zane seemed to be using the paddle a little more to stay connected. Or was Zane's drone footage capturing better angles? Zane takes the drone footage for me. Great concept!
Zane is for sure better on the drone skills ! 🎉
I think you take it Josh. Love these videos
Thanks
Thanks for sharing, love the idea, definitely matches to what people enjoy about dw is the snowboard back country feel. You could do a virtual comp where you get to submit your best 2min section and then score each. I do like the idea of the same conditions because obviously someone at Hood is going to look better. Gain points for linking consecutive bumps, 360 carves, tips out, holding turns to completion, snap cutbacks Lose points for pumping, touchdowns, going straight But, and I say it with all respect - this looked somewhat forced for you guys. Conditions looked tricky, struggle to get a rhythm going, so for me the flow wasn't there. (pro riders, I've come to expect the edited version, so take this as intended - constructive) I guess a good test is that I wouldn't show this to surf mates to impress them. I would show them the Hood river one, with you and Jack, that was really good. Maybe board was too big, making turns look a bit more nursed. Another way of saying this is that if the conditions aren't good, it's hard to make the foiling look smooth. Reminds me of a surf contest in onshore grovel, you can judge it, but its tough to make much of it. On the whole, I really like the idea of this. Maybe an idea is the parawing or efoil for these tricky conditions. That way you ride the best foil and board for the conditions, and don't have to worry about paddle ups. But I like the experimentation. Very cool.
Amazing thanks for the detailed review
But surf contests are in grovel conditions all the time. We are at the mercy of the conditions. While I agree with you, this is not their best DW run ever. It's nice to see average conditions sometimes. It doesn't always have to be the TH-cam version. This is meant to be a contest version, so no edit's is nice. I did wonder if it would work if you did sections. So instead of getting lost in the full run. 30 seconds of contestant 1 paddle up, cut to 30 seconds of contestant 2 paddle up. Middle section comparison. End section comparison. Kelly's wave pool has shown us that when you have to remember an entire wave for 50 seconds it's very hard to judge the thing.
Great idea, I was torn as Zane is our team captain and I ride code… I gave it to Ku sorry Zane but Ku pumped a little less but maybe his bumps were just a little better. Zane hands down on drone. Did the longer boards induce just a bit more flex in your gear than your used to ? Sort of looked that way
Josh look like he was too scared to drown the drone so Zane made him look better with riskier flying. Or a stitch up 😂
Ahah yep Zane for sure beat me with yhe drone skills
They were some big bumps - not real peaky and makes it hard to surf cause you're going so fast and have to maintain speed to stay with them. Does go to show that as the Cypher is a beginner board it can still take you for a LONG way through your DW journey for sure! Epic Vid Josh!!
i clocked a couple 1;58 kms on it !!!
@@joshku1990 Not surprised those bumps are girthy
For me it was difficult to pick a winner as Zane had the best flow while Josh had the best style. I also like Josh’s line choice at the end - pushing wider on the outside the cutting back to the right through the surf before the river mouth. No question that Zane was the best drone pilot though! 😅
Hahah epic thanks
Josh won this one for me. Zane looked to be fighting his foil in turns. Josh was going with the flow and doing what the foil allowed, nothing forced, smooth, graceful surfing.
Thanks mate
Loving the new comp format 🤙
Take gps tracker then you know who made the most turns as there track will be longer also average speed and top speeds are fun
Great idea I’ll get the stats next time
For me Zane won. Because all in all he stands smoother on the board, less arm shaking and the turns look a little bit more powerful. But Ku holds the turns a little longer. I like more the wider stance of Ku, but I see him more on a small Prone Board 🤙🙂
Awesome thanks for the feedback
The footage back to back this time was better than the split screen before. I think I'll give the edge to Zane this time. Very tight race though. Might just be I watched his run first bias going on there.
Yeh I think maybe the run was too long? Did it get boring ?
@@joshku1990 It's nice to see the whole run start to finish. Not sure how you could've made it much shorter. Full disclosure I do watch DW runs in 2x speed pretty often.
