I am 51 years old and I have been practicing water fasting (no food and only water) for prolonged periods since I was 22 years old.
Until I was 45 years, I used to fast once a year for periods of 7-18 days. Lately, I have been fasting twice a year for 3-5 days.
The following points are a summary of my experience with fasting
    - I have never felt hungry during my fast. I feel the desire to eat when smelling food or watching others eat, but never felt hungry
    - First two days are the hardest, then I usually experience a spike of energy and good feeling
    - Light excercise is a must on daily bases. I usually walk or garden
    - Food tastes much better after breaking the fast. Your senses of food taste improve in a great way after fasting
Hope the above helps you enjoy fasting and improve your health

I have done extensive research on long term water fasting and decided that I am going to do it. There are many genetic mental disorders and health issues in my family and I feel that I can fix my dna by long term water fasting. I have been bone broth fasting for 10 years and for the past month I've been fasting 2 days and eating 2 days in preparation for my 40-50 day water fast. I also did a 3 day dry fast last year and words cannot explain the spiritual experience that I had. So I'm 4 days into my 40-50 day water fast- I'll stop when I feel the time is right. I call long term water fasting and dry fasting- Conversations with Universe. Sending strength and wisdom to all and remember- rest when you have to and, get back up when you fall. Peace

I don't think you can fix the DNA itself but maybe you can fix everything else. If you still have some health issue after a 40 day fast then maybe you have nailed down what is genetic and what is not.

20 years ago, several days before my chemotherapy for breast cancer, an oncologist (not my primary oncologist) told me about fasting and eating whole foods. I was overweight then and this doctor was saying things to me that I had NEVER heard of - don't eat for two days, what!!?? Fasting will do what to my body, huh??
I did receive chemo but I fasted every 36 hours as well. I truly...truly believe that I'm still here because I changed my diet and fasted.
Now, I eat on Wednesday and Sunday mornings - in which includes anything I want in moderation (no bread, no sugar, no grains).
I do exercise 3 days a week, nothing major and I'm 100+ pounds lighter than I was then and have kept the weight off. I dont take ANY medications and I'm getting close to 60.

I thought I would die if I didn't eat every 3 hours, I was addicted to sugar, bread and everything that is bad for us including alcohol and cigarettes, I have finally made it to 48 hrs fasting and I am now 240 pounds. It was so difficult to not eat with family and friends. I will continue to update you on my progress. Best of luck.

Nelson, how did you handle the diabetic medication(s) that you were on when you began fasting.

    • @CatrachoDNYC
      @CatrachoDNYC ปีที่แล้ว +6

Hal, I am prescribed glipizide and metformin. Always had issues with glipizide because it would drop my levels below 80 and my body would react all types of crazy, cold, shakes, stutter etc. Finally the doc changed the doses from 10 mg glipizide and 1000 mg metformin to half of each. Once I started fasting things changed again because I cut all fruit, sugar, bread and so on so the medication would have the same effect as before even though the doses were lower, I gave up the glipizide first and as I progressed with fasting I replaced the metformin with the berberine. I also supplemented with zinc, vitamin b12, vitamin c, vitamin D, potassium and magnesium. Check your glucose levels constantly, your body might react different depending on how bad or not your diabetes is. I was really doing bad but my body really reacted well to the positive changes.

I eat very little carbs, good quality organic eggs, vegs, grass fed/finished meats and wild salmon, sardines, cod livers. Everything in my blood work has normalized and I am off all BP meds. I drank water from a spring I found and there was plenty of pine trees and wild onions near the spring. I stuffed my pockets with the wild onions and pine nuts. I found a 2 liter soda bottle near there and I filled it up and headed out. Fortunately I knew enough about outdoor survival and after a few minutes of walking I knew about where I was. I made it to an outdoor supply store that was approx. 7 miles away. Later on when I was examined by the doctor I told him what happened and I couldn't remember anything until it felt like I woke up and realized where I was. I told him the last thing I remembered. I had been in the woods for 5 days! I guess I survived eating the pine nuts and wild onions for several days but I don't remember that either. My dad had passed away recently and the doctor said I probably had a case of Delayed Post Traumatic Amnesia and my dad's passing was the cause. I glad it was in the late spring and not in winter.

if you can stop the cheat day and get the sugars and carbs completely out of you body, then the dopamine will stop being stimulated, then you will love the foods, they are so delicious once the addiction is stopped, then life, fasting, eating properly becomes much easier and totally joyfull, you won't even want the sweet stuff, if you try it you won't even like it and you will taste the chemicals in it. Background-over 60, female, diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder (MG). I became overweight after having multiple pregnancies in a short time. I was hungry all of the time, a binge eater, and food was one of the things I lived for. A few years ago, I could not turn over in bed without help, 3 years after diagnosis. This state was culmination of declining over a period of 2 years. Forward to being tired of living like this and quit eating (no water for almost 3 days). After about 5 days (3 dry, 2 water only), I started improving enough that I decided to watch what I ate and start seeing if I could improve my life as it was, rather than giving up. Three years later, I started a slow decline again. I have done 2 short fasts (48-72 hours) and included some supplements and seeing more improvement. Now, I eat OMAD or two within short window (2-6hrs varies, 8hr open rare). The foods I eat are mostly single ingredient foods that I prepare at home, but I have eaten out and just made best choice that I could. Fasting and limiting foods to whole foods (no added sugar, lower carbs, higher protein/fat) has silenced the constant food noise. I can eat like 'normal' people. I also feel better, MG symptoms are better, sleep is better.

I get comments from customers at work, they think I have cancer or have some untreated illness from how fast the weight is coming off! Dr Ekberg, thank you for your knowledge, insight, and advice!

depending on your size. losing 55lbs in two months is not bad, i weighed 447lbs, im down to 380lbs now, lost that weight in about the same time, seen a dr before and after, i am in significantly better health, but if your say like 175 and lose that weight that quick, then that is really bad and very unhealthy. for fatty's like myself, it isn't bad, its when you drop too much when you are already at a healthy weight that can be very bad for you.

I decided to do that after watching this Dr. I had mg a1c at 6.7 in June, I was out on Medformin 500mg, cut rice, bread, pasta, sugar. And I started to do intermittent fasting of 18-20 hours
My blood sugar now is 5.4
I will see the next blood work.
These 3 days helped to lose 5 pounds.
I will always do intermittent fasting,

Last night I had electrolytes with water before bed and again this morning. Around the 18hr-20 mark I began feeling like absolute garbage. But now that I am only 2 hrs from completion I feel so much better an am considering extending to 3 day water fast or 3 day modified fast.

    Day 5 completed ☑️
    (In 40 mins 😮)
I sometimes struggle with 18hrs intermittent so I’m very proud for my 1st try at an extended fast. I was in so much pain the day I started. I kneeled to pray and I heard subconsciously to fast for 3 days. And so it began, no pain meds (I have chiari malformation/fibromyalgia/cfs/chronic migraines) just simple spring water . I rested the 1st 3 days in bed just up and down to make meals for the children. Day 4 I drove to Tesco to buy fruit to break my fast but decided to continue….. no one mentions the spiritual side but there is a deeper connection and much more awareness.
I have been cranky at times but WOW the inflammation in my body has dramatically reduced and may sound silly to some but I could jump of the floor with two feet, I’ve had no migraines since day 3 and overall feel amazing and sad that I’m going to eat again. It feels great to be alive , I’ve cleaned my home throughly from top to bottom today with vigorous energy. And. Tomorrow day 5 1/2 I have a blood test maybe I will stop tomorrow when completed 6 days, maybe not.
If your reading this go for it, pray meditate and cleanse your body with salts ❤❤❤

I'm currently 35 hours into what I'd like to be a 3 day water-only fast. I'm hoping it kills some of the chronic inflammation in my body and makes me feel better. Fantastic, explained a lot of questions I've had about the inter-relationship between Keto and Fasting.
I've found low blood sugar to be the most intense during keto induction phase or fasting in the first 3-4 days. If you can maintain discipline to get through that period, the rest is much easier without having hunger pains. After 12-14 hours from a no breakfast morning until dinner time, I get a slight notification that I 'might' be hungry, but its trivial and can be dismissed easily if you want to cut calories even more.
I found it kind of hard to actually the full 1800 calories a day the last time I was on keto.
Trying again next week, only adding daily workouts to the routine.

Look into the possibility of too much water. I think, not totally sure, that if you're drinking too much water, then you'll need more electrolytes as the water dilutes them. The faster they are washing out of your body, the less you absorb.

My life changed when I finally set my mind to the thinking that anything is possible if you decide to do it. I took a meal plan to start with. I created it online, on Dietarizzee, which was super helpful to me back then. I didn't have to worry about calories, macros, nutrients and all that stuff, I just focused on walking long distances and exercising after I got on a level where I could do some simple workouts. I went 42 hours without food and drank nothing but a little cup of coffee in the morning and then water the rest of the time. I never felt better in my life. It was AMAZING!!!!

Did you add milk/sugar (even a little bit) to your coffee? In that case, does this count as fasting?

Soon after beginning Keto for my autoimmune diseases (on Prednisone and Methotrexate) I incorporated daily intermittent fasting and soon did 3,5 and 7 day fasts. Healing was quick and I was off drugs shortly afterwards. That was over 3-1/2 years ago, no symptoms or flares since. I feel better now at 68 than I did at 48. This video is now shared in my Keto group to help other members who have suffered with illness as I had. Thank you Dr. Ekberg.

@@annaneufeld8571 I was doing keto, intermittent fasting and several extended fasts over the course of about 8 months, then added a tin of sardines every day, and after a months I was able to begin tapering but it was very slow. After about 4 months of this I switched to carnivore and after 30 days began tapering as was off 12.5mg of methotrexate in another 2 weeks. A week later I had a small salad and the next day hand terrible hand and wrist pain. The following week I tried another salad and again had hand and wrist pain the next day. I continued on carnivore for another couple of months before trying another salad and this time no problems. I now eat mostly meat, sometimes with a little veg on the side.
