It’s all looking so good, the cottage looks stunning now it’s painted, what a difference.

I love your simple explanations for all the things you are doing. Love to see a video about what you are doing to restore the inside of your cottage.

I hate meeces to pieces anywhere near my home, so your first reason was enough for me. Very sensible. Shirt sleeves in the snow Kyle? You're a hardy lad!

One reason to stack against the house is simply making use of the structure or wall to stack against. I think it also keeps the place looking aesthetically pleasing/homely too. I'd personally build a wooden lean-too on side of the cottage with some sort of roof both for the wood to dry and stack under as well as an outdoor covered area for any work eg chopping or otherwise and further storage.
Yes you'd still be inviting a host of animal lodgers to move in, but then your cottage would be that much cozier!
The wood would dry-out given enough time and so enough stacks in rotation would work the same as your current system but with less work over time eg wheel-barrow-fuls and trips.
Overall sound reasons especially for an undisturbed night's sleep! But I'd say aesthetically it comes down to taste too. The cozy cottage aesthetic warms the heart and invites the soul in! ;-))

Need some turf!! We have not bought oil this year or coal. 350 we spent and it covers 3 families. Well done on the wood pile.

😂 there's not much to say about it, they get in the house and make a lot of noise at night, occasionally getting into the attic and walking on my bedroom ceiling, recently during a storm something big and black (a rat? A mink? Pine marten?) Got into the cottage in the middle of the night, I saw it but didn't get a good look, sent the dog in and he scared whatever it was back into the storm

@@44birdie44 the front door of the cottage is rotten at the bottom, I need to put in a new one, the dog will chase something if he sees or hears it, the cat is constantly hunting even at 15 years old

Have you actually moved into the house yet? I lost track.
And what are temps like during the winter?

    • @thebridgemanscottage
      @thebridgemanscottage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Moved in to the cottage in Nov 2021 :)
And temps are usually quite mild, had some bouts of frost and snow lately but in general it rarely gets below freezing

@@thebridgemanscottage Have you done a proper "tour" video of the house? A walkthrough would be awesome and it would be awesome to see the fire burning at night and an explanation of how the heat travels through the property.

Same name near the same age. Same past career same burn out.
And almost same choice to farm or homestead , on your first video. But I didn't know enough.
Programmer ? employed for 3 years in a total of 15 years. Spent all the time Chasing jobs or learning next API. Didn't realise I wasted my years. I was supposed to be a video game programmer so the problem solving and learning was almost an addiction to being God. But if my game didnt break the software to make my game broke or my hardware untill I have nothing.
(If I'm a bad or crazy programmer how did I graduate)
Now I'm trying to get life you have with very little savings just as you did (or said in your first video).
Post coming from someone whom considers Malaysia/Singapore/England home.

Don't treat yourself too unkindly: That kind of story is called "life" !!
The good thing is your thinking switched to INTEGRATION approach of what life is: The job/career focus due to money-society construction distorts what life is and it revolves around career progression. But it should revolve around LIVING.
That still means finding a way to solve the money problem but the focus is solving that problem along with other living problems to live well. Time is short for life so to use it well is to live well imho.
If you can work in software remotely and build up a homestead you might find a solution? Good luck.
