nice review- I'm looking at one on Craigslist right now. I'm very impressed with the guitar playing skills. The United Nations banned me from playing in public as a health hazard- and rightly so!
Thanks for the review. I got this as my first electric guitar in 1990. I did take away the pickguard and the plastic thingy on the PU switch because I think it looked cooler. I rediscovered it after I cleaned up a corner in the cellar I didn't really inspected for about 15 years. Opened the gigbag and I thought that this baby has to be cleaned up and restringed. The pots will be replaced and I will need a cover for the electronics again, but the rest is still great (and still sounds great)
no problem man, and i have done the same now, i took the plate off, and i had to take the selector switch ring of aswell because i upgraded the wiring to gibson spec and the switch won't fit in the guitar with the ring there. these are beautiful guitars, feel solid. rock on!!
yeah i do have the originals and i plan to get them potted some time soon, yeah it does have a 50's neck. thanks for the comment and the good words mate.
Good review. Did you have the original pickups for this? The replacements are a good choice but I dig the Sky pickups for some things. (which btw, most early Japan pickups would be microphonic as well in the days before potting, yet folks still seek out and pay decent money for the early Ibanez pu's) I would have also covered neck profile (which is more of a sixties slim as opposed to the 50's baseball) and the inlays myself.
i have not tried one but i know people who have, i know the l75 is a bolt on neck, and the tuners are not as good, it has a very different feel aswell. the people who have played mine and an l75 have said mine is a cut above it. if you have the option between the two i would recommend the l59. it is worth the extra money. they aint bad guitars but it depends what you want it for, i would not gig a l75 but mine is a good gigging tool.
the price isnt too bad, see if you can haggle a little with the price, they are definitely good for the money. keep your eye on Ebay, you can get some real bargains on there.
Great video ! I would really appreciate if you could take your time and help me . I was wondering which guitar is better Epiphone les paul standard vs hohner 59 . Have you ever compared them ?
I personally haven't played an Epiphone LP that I've liked, I don't know if it's bad set ups or just me, but the feel and tone just never seems as good as they claim. I've owned 2 L59's, this one and a black beauty copy (I sold the latter, and still have this one) I'm impressed with both, but this was slightly better built. You should try and compare the two, play both and see what feels/sounds better.
if you can get an l59 straight away, that would be my choice, its a guitar you can rely on and i have gigged it quite a few times and never had a problem with it. the l75 is a bit more un reliable.

Great idea on replacing the pickups usually people buy these guitars and keep the original pickups, that sure made the guitar sound great !

Its not a jeff beck. Its a Seymour Duncan jazz bridge....my favorite pickup!
did you know this has been the closest copy of a Les Paul since 1989?
It really would not surprise me hahah, these are fantastic guitars.

Heavy in weight?
Is this sound comparable to the L75?
I'd guess not, due to my Duncan's, and the L59 and L75 are very far apart in build and parts.
