If there was any treasure I doubt that sam found it, simply put he was broke when he bought the island, and dinging up to 100 feet down and then retrieving the treasure at that time period would have been impossible without the backing of an army.
@@19jody72 Yeah I know they hint at the fact that sam may have gotten the treasure but I think it would be irresponsible to say that he couldn't have just run a successful cabbage business that made him very wealthy. I also think that in light of recent data they have there is a lot of silver under the ground in the money pit so he couldn't have gotten it.
The story ends when Rick and Marty dig up a large stone plaque at the bottom of the money pit, on which the words are chiseled, "A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned".
I had no idea that Marty was that wealthy, during the start of the series i think they mentioned they had accumulated a few million dollars after a life time to be used for the excavation. I assumed initially the money would eventually run out, which is why they had to make cuts to reduce the costs. But if Marty has a net worth of 40-100 million, they were never in any danger. And the money they earn from the show itself could fund this project indefinitely.
It’s series 13,468, episode 435 which will be the best ever. What always gets me is, if they think they know where it is, why keep digging elsewhere? 🤷🏻♂️
My mom watches it over and over all seasons from start to finish, backwards and forwards, month after month looking for clues for her theories... she says it once was once a gay nudist colony for ichabod crane...
The "treasure" on Oak Island is what they pay those drilling companies. That has got to be expensive. I really feel that the things they are finding behind the coffer dam are leftovers from a shore battery from the time that the French and British were battling over North America.
It looks like a loading dock of some kind. Remember a lot of furs were traded then. It doesn't look military like the nearby fort. There would be a lot more permanent stone work and navel gun emplacements if it was. That said, a lot of shipping passed through.
@@darrinjones9387 well said. that's exactly what my wife and I theorized. A lot of history went through that neck of the woods in the last millenium and probably earlier. Who knows. That island is the perfect base/harbour.
Sometimes the hunt is better than the end result... but let's be fair, in regards the oak island, the end result will be just as good. I always know they are still at it because, let's face it, they find something it'll be front page news. Well, you'd hope so at least.
I read the original Readers Digest article back in 1965 also. It was interesting but didn't set me out on a quest. I wonder if this led the Lagina Brothers to be successful in business to then be able to fulfill their obsession. There are times that I feel that this is just a longer version of The Mystery of Al Capone's Vault with Geraldo Rivera from back in 1986. Every time an episode airs, there's something more coming up.
One of the "so-called" experts that appeared on an episode a couple of seasons ago was recently exposed as an outright liar & fraud. He was thanked for "his military" service, which turned out to be fabricated. His publisher has pulled all of his "historical" books as a consequence. I hope that the producers apologize to the fans. I will still say that I enjoy the program. I remember reading the same Readers DIgest article as the Lagina brothers and have always been fascinated by the story of Oak Island.
I love Oak Island. Hey guys don't you realize that once they find something big the show will end? That would be sort of sad because take a look around how many good clean shows and movies are really worth watching anymore? None or very few.
I have soooo much time invested in this friggin” show that I cannot “not” watch the show season after season…..Definitely some unknown history here but who knows….It is starting to drag on…..and on…..and on…..
I agree. So much of each episode is waffle and recaps. I can't get excited any more about Gary finding another old nail. I will keep watching but I find myself fast forwarding through more and more of each episode.
History is like that.. but there sure is a lot of interesting things being found within this search. Where so many reality shows are fake, this search is legit and fully documented. Its real and that doesnt happen too often these days.
I think there is an end game for the show that is already planned. I wouldn't be surprised if items that are found on the island are refound in front of the camera crew. It does feel a lot of the time that things get drug out for more episodes and cliff hanger reveals. The history and archaeological finds are interesting, I just wish things didn't have to be so dramatically repeated over and over again by the narrator.......... Narrator "A post about the very tv show i work on? Could this be a tie to the Knights Templar?"
Hi. The picture shown of Matt Chisholm, is unfortunately the wrong Matt Chisholm, this one is still alive and kicking and is a TV personality/reporter in New Zealand.
I've been interested in this thing longer than I thought as my father mentioned it in the 60's to me as a kid. I guess he read about it in readers digest. I remember him describing the tide trap and wood that blocked the way and how gold was found on the drill bit. It must be the same place I imagine. Now knowing a bit more it seems to be a deliberate trap that is accentuated by the stone found that said the treasure was a further 40' down which tripped off the water trap. Devious and cunning are words that come to mind. Now with the millions made from the series it seems that we have modern day pirates sitting around a table laden with booty! Arrrrrrrh matey pass me my cutlass!
I started watching at the show's inception. After a couple of years I gave up as I thought they were always trying to boost ratings through hype. I think they will ride this thing until everyone gets sick of it and the series is cancelled.
I fully believe they need to dig down to the sunken ship which will hopefully still have some identification markings on it that will provide its origins. That ship may very well have exploded and sunk along with some of the treasure.
The island is recorded in papers in the British Library as being the home of a ship breaking, ship building business, going back many generations and small subsistence farming. It is no surprise that they keep finding tools and detritus related to both industries. It also perfectly explains traces of lost wharfs etc. It is also understandable that military finds are there, given they would have used the ship building services and camped there. The actual treasure being found is the native archaeology, and it is a travesty that the Canadian government allow them to destroy that in search of well documented European heritage, and a myth. The techniques used on the show are appalling. A full LiDAR scan, magnetometer survey, resistivity survey then test trenching and box pits would be the best method, what they are doing should be a crime. Having said that, the fact that they keep sinking bore holes and cans into an area of the island that has been disturbed by wholesale destructive digging over generations is hilarious. They keep finding the wood, boots, tools etc of the previous destruction, all mixed up with no clear stratigraphy and plotting their finds onto maps. It’s futile. But hey, let’s all pretend that wood they pull up has never been dug up, backfilled and dug up again before, eh? Many years ago when I was reading for a postgrad in archaeology I sent the brothers a research paper with all the shipbuilding evidence, the location of lime kilns and other things, explaining the wood structures in the sea bed and more. I never got a reply. And I know others have reached out to them to offer archaeological support and research too, but they prefer all the knights Templar and other silly myths people bring to the show, because it’s just that, a show.
Ditches with no cleaned up edges, no scale drawings, no context or plans or levels being taken no datum point no TBM no tags defining different layers or find spots, no mention of soil samples taken from sealed undamaged layers that can be bagged & sent off to be analysed for info about the activities and changes that man has caused over time on the island. People need a place to live to sleep, eat, wash, keep warm ,basically have someplace to shelter , a place to crap ,& all these things leave evidence which can be dated . But I don't recall anything like that being found. People don't sail from Europe and drop things off just to turn around & sail right back home again without any food heat or sleep . None of the basics have been done, the whole place is a mess Trashed by clueless treasure hunters who haven't found anything. TV must be paying them a lot of money, its the only way they could pay for everything.
Amen! Not like any investigation I've been involved with! No shoring in excavations, etc. (of course, there may be off camera things the viewer doesn't see) But, some of the activities would cause me to 'red tag' them immediately!
@@hipasssports what they do gives archaeology a bad name Those who don't know the basic protocol believe everything they do is the right way . I've had many arguments with people who love the show and wont hear a bad word said about them, or anything about the way they do things .. They should stop using the word archaeology , or saying they have archaeologist , And stick to saying what they really are , treasure hunters who don't know a thing about archaeology ...
It is quite likely that the cunning pirate captain had his crew dig the money pit as a diversion while the treasure was hidden elsewhere. Why else would the booby trap be put into the pit to flood it, so that noone could ever know if something was hidden there.
The amount of work put into tunneling well below the surface makes the place significant, but the contents may well have been moved. In one episode the show identified a Knights Templar "fort" in degraded condition on private land about 50 miles from Oak Island. That lead seemingly died on the vine for unknown reasons while Templar connections continue to this day to be propounded, including recognition of a noteworthy Masonic presence in the area. The idea that a significant cache of valuables remains underground on the island in my mind is a conjecture. However, the seemingly complex history of the island is fascinating and makes for an interesting puzzle. I am not inclined to see things nefariously though there are times I think the show gets a bit vainglorious. When it does I go ugh, but it hasn't stopped me from watching. That said I prefer to take a balanced approach to the show, enjoying it regardless of any litmus test that can be made for any of the motivations of any of the actors.
I love this show and have been watching it from day one. It’s very cool all the things they have found and it’s unbelievable how much has gone on in Nova Scotia in the past 1000 years. I live in Maine just South of them and even we have a lot of history on our coastline too.
It seems they only want to hear what their take on things are. I have sent a message a year ago about the triangular swamp area. I have a nautical background and I am more than familiar with the careening of ships hulls. I mentioned how a ship could have been hauled in to that area at high (spring) tide the once in the entry would have been sealed at low tide, thus allowing the ship to be tilted on its side and the hull repaired and careened ( fouling such as barnacles removed. Presence of oak planking in the swamp more than confirms repairs being done. There would never have been a ship sunk in the swamp as it just isn’t deep enough, a ship entering during a spring tide would only need some 8ft - 10ft of depth in order to get into the area. More than 30ft depth is needed to sink a ship in there and that is not attainable. To date (over a year) I am still awaiting a response from ‘the team’. I expect I will never get my response.
Well, I’d like to know. I’m watching this video obviously, but would like to know if you’ve come across any scholarly literature on this fascinating subject. History and mysteries combined is fascinating to me. But, ultimately, I’m interested in knowing facts not a reality TV spin on the curse.
Hi Lori, unfortunately the facts surrounding this mystery are scant. I think a lot of what is being shown stretches from minor fact through informed hypothesis all the way to hare brained ideas. But a couple of things stand out. One is the similarities of the Mi’kmaq flag and that of the Knights Templar, the story being, by way of the Mi’kmaq that their flag was given to them by people who came to the region. The second is that the swamp is a key. As I mentioned sailing ships of old needed to be careened and repaired to maintain seaworthiness. The swamp, in my opinion was where the repairs were done. There is, I feel no mysticism in this apart from just who the people who came to Oak Island were. The web being woven has plainly become too tangled and at times becomes ridiculous. The answer lies in a better study of Maritime History and determinations of human settlement in the New World. The is so little empirical data that a lot of really off the wall theories are coming forth. I sent them my 2 cents worth and never got a response. Perhaps I may have come too close to the truth about the swamp (being used for careening) which didn’t fit with their need to continue spinning their tangled web of sometimes off the wall ideas.
Matt Chisom was the seventh to die? then the son of one of the crew, then Fred Nolan, then Dan Blankenship, still the narrator only accepts six? in true treasure hunting fashion when something of real value is discovered, will the government say thankyou for recovering it, now it belongs to us?
We have the cocos island where it is believe there is a big treasure and for hundred of years people has been looking for it but the pirates leavit in another island seem thing happens overthere
You may want to check your photo of Matt Chisholm. This photo is of the New Zealand host of Survivor NZ and Celebrity Treasure Island NZ. He's still alive and kicking in New Zealand, he hosted last year's season of Celebrity Treasure Island.
I don't want to be a pessimist, it seems unlikely they will find much left since they've already indicated at least 3 people who shopped even often for their needs/wants in town(s) on the mainland: 1 or 2 of the 1795 discoverers that got whole thing started, namely the McGinnis Brothers, Samuel Ball, and just recently and later owner of many lots in the 19th Century who's name I can't recall, using old Spanish coins or other old foreign denominated (none of which would in today markets be useful in exchange for goods or services yet obviously was still so back then) gold, silver coins or valuables not in common current contemporary circulation to pay for these purchases. Moreover, if there were any deposits of priceless religious or cultural artifacts, regardless from which one or more potential cultures, or written documents (even possibly treated in mercury yet perhaps to a lesser extent, but still obviously seriously toxic, nonetheless), etc. other than the possible exception of crown or other nobel jewels, now after numerous sea flooding events and worse collapse cave-ins into random distribution(s) of debris; the likelihood of any such formerly historical important item(s) being anything greater than just that "debris" of more or less damaged beyond hope of repair if even recognisable identification can be made, yet still in fact even in perfect condition as even David Blankenship would have to disapointingly concede as "unspendable" bound instead for a museum for future generations posterity! Augy, San Diego
I love this show and have watch from the beginning. They have found too many clues and artifacts for there not to be a treasure. You didn't mention the escaped slave that moved there and started a cabbage(?) farm and became rich.
@@Datrebor In the accounts I have read and heard regarding Samuel Ball, no mention of "gold" is made. The accounts of him buying lots on Oak Island, etc... have him paying for it with Spanish silver (i.e. Pieces of Eight). That would be pirate treasure indeed!
For a channel named Facts Verse, you mess up quite a few "facts" I still watch this show but record it to get past the narrator's rhetorical questions and the replay of the past stories over and over again. This distills it to about 20 minutes.
That's why I left too! Incorrect facts and use of stories that they've used before or that are already so overly done that nothing new can be added to the story! SMH
@@CGSmith-tv8dl It is likely the human remains were on the island, but with all of the earth moving done with bulldozers in the 50's and 60's, all of the layers are scrambled.
If someone owns some land on a nearby island, they could pay some of the local teenagers to help get some old chests in a hole in the island to a boat and then load them into vehicles. Give them some ridiculous "cover" story which the teenagers would see as suspect. Their mouths will start going about "a treasure" being on that island. OMG, they were digging on the wrong island. Was Oak Island a decoy location or confused information?
I heard from a reliable source that the lead players in this Reality TV show have been, in recent Seasons, getting paid in the "low" six-figure amount per episode. VERY LUCRATIVE indeed!
Agreed with comments below. If your brand name is facts verse it’s really important that your facts be accurate. Once they aren’t and especially with oak island loyal viewers trust us lost. Trust us a really hard value to earn and once lost very hard to regain. It leads us to believe if this episode is inaccurate how many others in the past and future will be untrue leading people to unsubscribe unfortunately.
Does anyone remember the Dick Cavett TV Show where he had guests on who were involved with the treasure hunt? Dick Cavett found the story so compelling that he had the commercials suspended during the story telling. I've been a fan of the story since my reading of the 1956 Readers Digest article . . . . But, the possible historical significance of the story far out weighs any monetary value to be retrieved.
Why don't lagina Brothers set up an operation either on site or off the island to take the pregnant water containing gold and silver and extract the microscopic submicron precious metals from that water and melt the resulting powder into ingots?

The story ends when Rick and Marty dig up a large stone plaque at the bottom of the money pit, on which the words are chiseled, "A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned".
Or better yet: "Don't forget to drink your Ovaltine".
Or one that says "Thats All Folks!"
Marty is not Rick
If Rick want as worth 40-100 I wouldn’t worry but not Marty
Marty is actually the one that put up the money to buy into Oak Island Tours. Rumor has it that it was about $100 million for the buy in.
I so miss watching this & did for years but glad I can on my ph now !!!😍
It’s series 13,468, episode 435 which will be the best ever.
What always gets me is, if they think they know where it is, why keep digging elsewhere? 🤷🏻♂️
Correction: Title should be
WHAT EVEN THE MOST CASUAL FAN KNOWS GODDAMN WELL ABOUT THE CURSE OF OAK ISLAND...
LOL
Nailed it!
Top pocket finds mate !
Me and my dad used to watch this show when i was younger all the time
Hemingway said it best. “It’s not that some of it is true. It’s that all of it is true” Great systems management approach.
Money Pit is a good name for the place. There's been lots of people that have thrown money into it.... never to be seen again!
My mom LOVES oak island and watches it EVRY SINGLE DAY
My mom watches it over and over all seasons from start to finish, backwards and forwards, month after month looking for clues for her theories... she says it once was once a gay nudist colony for ichabod crane...
What I like the most about the show is the public comments wood and nails no gold yet you got to love it
I remember reading that article in Reader's Digest, in 1966.
Including this boring one
Beyond oak island is awesome too, if they find the treasures 🤑
I have soooo much time invested in this friggin” show that I cannot “not” watch the show season after season…..Definitely some unknown history here but who knows….It is starting to drag on…..and on…..and on…..
I agree. So much of each episode is waffle and recaps. I can't get excited any more about Gary finding another old nail. I will keep watching but I find myself fast forwarding through more and more of each episode.
I read that article when I was a kid too.
One fact is that it will never end.🖋
I have watched the show for a very long time, then stopped. I hope some day they find the money pit.
All those old oak logs and timbers are well preserved worth a small fortune .
Hi. The picture shown of Matt Chisholm, is unfortunately the wrong Matt Chisholm, this one is still alive and kicking and is a TV personality/reporter in New Zealand.
yes can vouch for that
makes you wonder what else they've got wrong !
A lot of people have read that article in Readers Digest. So have I.
also, Im a templar , there is a legend about blue apples connected to the templars, one would think apple island holds the key
That's 10 minutes I'll never get back.
I started watching at the show's inception. After a couple of years I gave up as I thought they were always trying to boost ratings through hype. I think they will ride this thing until everyone gets sick of it and the series is cancelled.
Like how the narrator states facts as questions? Gets pretty annoying.
Summer Holidays in Nova Scotia let's go.
I never miss an episode.
One time they mentioned Rick was the divorced, idk about kids.
My money is on the swamp. Wish they could have kept up the damn. Ready for the new season.
Doubt it. This story so old that shit probably gone or degraded to the point of futility
First fact!
DAN passed away not DAVE,
Second fact!
how can we take you seriously if the very thing your channel is based around ‘FACTS’ you get wrong?
At some point, those mid-evil hand forged spikes are going to add up to big bucks. Keep digging, the wood is awsome also.
None of the basics have been done, the whole place is a mess
Trashed by clueless treasure hunters who haven't found anything.
@@hipasssports what they do gives archaeology a bad name
Those who don't know the basic protocol believe everything they do is the right way .
I've had many arguments with people who love the show and wont hear a bad word said about them, or anything about the way they do things ..
They should stop using the word archaeology , or saying they have archaeologist ,
And stick to saying what they really are , treasure hunters who don't know a thing about archaeology ...
It is quite likely that the cunning pirate captain had his crew dig the money pit as a diversion while the treasure was hidden elsewhere. Why else would the booby trap be put into the pit to flood it, so that noone could ever know if something was hidden there.
Found this disconcerting that you would show a picture of the son when talking about the passing of the Mr Blankenship
My wife calls the show “Wood Island”… I don’t get it? 🙄
First heard about Oak Island in 1993
I renamed this show: "Dan Henske and the Wood Sniffers"
Well said. I just left a comment above almost word for word as the first part of your comment.
Thank you that was good to find out .love the show would like to see what they found soon
As many holes everyone has drilled and dug the island is going to sink.
You do realize that is not how islands work right?..lol
Matt Chisom was the seventh to die? then the son of one of the crew, then Fred Nolan, then Dan Blankenship, still the narrator only accepts six? in true treasure hunting fashion when something of real value is discovered, will the government say thankyou for recovering it, now it belongs to us?
I love this show
i am to the point now that i dont want them to find anything, because the show will end.
We have the cocos island where it is believe there is a big treasure and for hundred of years people has been looking for it but the pirates leavit in another island seem thing happens overthere
Life always gives us another change; It’s called “To Move On”.

I really enjoy the show. If you don't,don't watch it and keep your hate to yourself. Thanks so much.
What they dont realize is that with the cost of wood they have now found 40 million dollars worth of the stuff
Rip sir. And sirs that passed . they the years . . ✌💪
Samuel ball n anthony vaughan have vaccumed the golden coins
Thanks for watching!

I love this show and have watch from the beginning. They have found too many clues and artifacts for there not to be a treasure. You didn't mention the escaped slave that moved there and started a cabbage(?) farm and became rich.
The Samuel Ball story is common knowledge in regards to Oak Island history and does not fit the subject of this video.
@@johnwoa True as fans do know it but it does, I think, have to do with the gold and how he got rich.
SMH
There is a mistake towards the beginning of the video just so you all know, it's Dan who passed away not Dave
I live 30 mins from Oak Island .... pass by it all the time 🙂
Hi, fellow maritimer (Summerville,NB). I’d love to know what locals think about the show, you must know stuff we have never heard about.
Do locals think was ever any treasure there.
I live a week from oak island
@@CGSmith-tv8dl It is likely the human remains were on the island, but with all of the earth moving done with bulldozers in the 50's and 60's, all of the layers are scrambled.
If someone owns some land on a nearby island, they could pay some of the local teenagers to help get some old chests in a hole in the island to a boat and then load them into vehicles. Give them some ridiculous "cover" story which the teenagers would see as suspect. Their mouths will start going about "a treasure" being on that island. OMG, they were digging on the wrong island. Was Oak Island a decoy location or confused information?
Cant wait for season 10
I have a question. How much do they get paid per episode...?
John W. Anderson 😂
I heard from a reliable source that the lead players in this Reality TV show have been, in recent Seasons, getting paid in the "low" six-figure amount per episode. VERY LUCRATIVE indeed!
@@johnwoa Whether that's true or not, many people over the years have made fortunes by appearing on the TV regularly.
Because what they are calling "substantial traces of gold and silver found in the water is measuring merely 0.002 parts per million lol
One thing I am sure of is the Lagina brothers would not have anything to do with the death of another human being.
I quit watching about 6 years ago. Today, very little new dirt has been moved. (YAAAAAWWWWwwwwwnnnnnnn)
Wrong it was dan that passed away not Dave
So right off the bat you have wrong information. Dave is alive but his father Dan passed away in 2019.
You showed the wrong picture of Dan Blankenship who passed away last year. You showed a picture of his son, David Blankenship.
