You should do a video where you redraw all of these with a reference to show the difference between the two and how important using a reference can be :D
“There’s nothing in my brain” “I don’t know how I passed that class honestly” “I don’t go outside, it’s a miracle I know what a bug looks like” Sam embodying all of us and I’m here for it
The intros just don’t stop improving. Sam scolding the skull of his enemy is something I never needed to see, but at the same time it’s the best thing I have ever seen. Ps. Super excited for the art book to come out
The skull of Sam's enemy will never get old. And honestly, I'm very impressed that you were able to draw all that from memory. I did it as well, and half of my sketches look like something that came from a kindergarten class. Great work as always, Sam!
As someone with aphantasia drawing from memory is actually really hard for me but, things like this give me hope that even though I cant imagine I might still be able to draw great things without reference!!!
god, you are such an inspiration to me. the way you use humor in your videos makes me even more motivated to continue to draw. thank you for being you sam
Because he draws everything. He always creates a scenery instead of empty portraits. Actually i clicked on the video to see him suck but he really nows everything 🥲
I always free-draw without a reference but I think they are better when you wanna get the exact structure right. Also SUPER FUNNY AND AMAZING AS ALWAYS
Yep I always just start drawing from nothing but when I just can't get a piece right I'll look for a reference, But i squrrell watch funny animal clips until i remember what i was doing then don't find what I want and start a new piece altogether🎉
As a new art teacher who has mostly made art with messy physical mediums, it's really great to watch your videos. I'm slowly teaching myself to draw/paint digitally. It has it's own learning curve. Your videos recenter me. You are my muse for digital art. ❤ ty!!
So I don't know if you'll see this, but I want to thank you for all your great art tips and advice on your channel. My art has improved so much because of your videos, especially the ones where you critique other art pieces. I'm now teaching my very first art class on character design & digital painting at our local Center for the Arts and it's all thanks to you and your channel!! So thank you so much for indirectly helping me to progress from an art baby to an art teacher, especially since now I get to help art babies become art gods, too! Really appreciate your content & advice, and I hope you know that your helping so many art babies become art gods like you!!
I like to draw from my memory because references get boring sometimes but seeing artists who regularly use references suddenly draw from their imagination is amazing Honestly i love Sam's art style drawn without a reference. The art style is so pretty and have a traditional feel to it!
So many drawings from sam, I loved it and what can I even say for the Intro of the video. His shocking face gets me everytime and Puts a smile on my face🥰
so, I did all of these with you and Im surprised with the result. Im more used to drawing humans and I barely draw objects, to my surprise, beside the beach people that I do think I drew pretty well, the animal, bird, snail and turtle look very good too. Aside from animals, I drew the beer bottle and the witch better than I thought I would. All the rest are pretty much what I expected. This challenge turned out more fun than I thought.
So I learned that I gotta draw more birds and animals in general, that the multitude of hats I thought I knew are actually just different types of caps, and that Sam has incredible shape language.
I’m sure you could :D As Sam would say: “Practice, practice, practice!” U’ve got this! ((: U just have to keep going - and remember to take some breaks too as to not get an art block or sth (:
Sam can you please make like a video on how to draw a head and hair (not faces) because I feel like most art TH-camrs focus on teaching people to draw detailed and not the main parts you need to draw a person. Thanks ❤
My friend suggested this but she didn’t have a channel so she couldn’t comment it Maybe you should do a video when you only draw on one layer or draw with the colours a wheel picked for you
I do this challenge a lot because it's a good way to see how you've improved and it can also just be more fun than sticking to a reference every time. A good way to decompress! (Also the tortoise is my favourite. It looks like he knows something and he's seen too much)
YES!!! Sam, how do you like the idea of making a video about like mistakes on art journey, or on the opposite - best pieces of advice and videos like that? Imo that would also be really cool
Sam, when we do use references, is there a specific area/website that’s good to get references from? Also, can you do a Q&A soon? I feel like that’d be fun. Thx for the video as always, we all love them!❤☺️
This one cracked me up so hard. SO many amazing quotes. Take almost anything he says out of context an' put it on a shirt. Iconic. Hilarious. I love it.
I didn't know the importance of reference until now, I would honestly just get up and start drawing and if it doesn't look how I want it I give up, thanks u Sam for this important lesson today.😊
"Always pick enemies that are much smaller than you" - Soon Zuk Bad jokes aside, I have most of my life drawn without reference, and only lately started to look at them. Usually I am able to store images in my head, but references do help speed up the process and makes sure I dont add in faulty perspective. I still draw without references, but less than before. Also, it depends on how realistic it's supposed to be. Enjoyed the video.
Sam, maybe you can make a video about trying out Ibis paint for the first time? There's many people drawing on this app and i think its gonna be interesting!
I have not a single cell that remembers what a dog looks like as soon as I start drawing, LIKE I KNOW HOW IT LOOKS BUT WHEN I START DRAWING ITS LIKE FADING AWAY AND THE SHADING AND EVERYTHING IS JUST GONE-
I decided to follow along and I was quite surprised (except for Shrek, same disaster), I rarely draw animals so I was quite surprised to be able to get at least the basic shapes down for most, great idea for a warm up! And your results are awesome, Sam, would love to see them with references to compare!
You should do a video where you redraw all of these with a reference to show the difference between the two and how important using a reference can be :D
This is a great idea
We now know what's coming next😈
I second that.
Thank you!@@samdoesarts

I cannot stress the value of references, i could never do this, you’re so talented Sam 😭
Your videos are always amazing ❤!!!!
god, you are such an inspiration to me. the way you use humor in your videos makes me even more motivated to continue to draw. thank you for being you sam
I can’t thank Sam enough for the improvement he’s brought to my art!✨✨✨
Today I discovered that I need to work on my mental library. How on earth does sam remember what EVERYTHING looks like?!

I literally love his videos
I figuratively love his videos
I understand the love of his videos
This was so fun to watch!

I love that Sam is always starting his videos with a clip of our drawings taking years off of his life :)

Best timing, I also fix my homeworks too, let's draw when listen Sam's video :3
Sam that makes you the best is you will and can relate to everyone else and you still encourage us to be ourselves
It was really fun to follow along. The ones that worked best for me were the animal in glasses, the people on the beach, and the coffee mug
