Thanks for your really incredible and well-made soundtracks! They are really so deep to analyze, even the "run!" one, the rhythm is so close to actual people running with blood boiling out from adrenaline in the very close space (like caves!), and those screams echoed throughout the cave is so dreadful. Such a magnificent work been done
The first two are just not the same without the sound of a dozen bugs digging out of the rocks and stones. Edit: I've unlocked haz 5 missions the other day and now would like to amend my statement: replace "dozen bugs digging out of the rocks and stones" with "bug vietnam". They're still a lotta fun tho.
Yeah, it's REALLY well designed, especially when the game goes for long periods with only faint ambience, the music hitting you at the dame time as a swarm of nasties really enhances the tension.
What's better about Dance of the Dreadnaught is it goes perfectly with a mission where your using a small oil refinery, so you have that roaring with the music
Okay, but it's EXREMELY IMPORTANT you listen to Fathomless Tomb next, it's the best atmospheric track in the whole OST. You'll know the part everyone vibes to when you hear it. Edit: SO GLAD you got Dance of the Dreadnought! It's my #1 favorite track in the game, and I'm always beyond pumped up for a swarm or boss encounter whenever I hear those triplet guitar notes in the opening. Also, I'm not always a fan of your covers personally, but I think you really KILLED IT with Dance of the Dreadnought, those were some MEAN licks! Almost tempted to mod that into the game, lol.
I was also hoping he would listen to Fathomless Tomb, that track encapsulates the experience of wandering around without any enemies to distract you from the fact you're on an alien planet.
Deep Rock Galactic's music does an extremely good job of capturing its very unique aesthetic blend of fantasy and sci-fi. I enjoy how the synth tones of some of the songs sound like they're playing on some sort of space-harpsichord. EDIT: Oh hey, you immediately heard the harpsichord too! I am validated!
Came here to say this. I've put around 400 hours into the game at this point, and The FinalAscent still never fails to give me goosebumps at its crescendo.
Dance of the Dreadnought is especially wonderful in game because you first hear it when you're working on your last mission type before the game starts to really open up to you, and absolutely sells the threat of the bossfights you face during it.
Pleasantly surprised to see you go over Deep Rock Galactic! I really love the soundtrack for this game, especially "RUN!" It does a really good job of making you feel like you're fighting for your life.
It's crazy, I have well over a thousand hours in DRG at this point, I've likely heard these tracks hundreds of times each. But listening to them outside of the game and hearing them dissected and described in detail by a professional musician gives me an entirely new appreciation to how awesome they really are. This was a great video; you got a new sub for sure!
That Axes Out cover is genuinely amazing, one of my favourite tracks in the game and you truly made it sound grand and regal like a true hall of the mountain lords
Stone and Rock! ...oh wait. So to add some context, about half the soundtrack is made to play when you're just exploring the caves, and those tracks are a lot more ambient and melodic. Most of the other songs are all made to play when a horde of bugs is attacking and you and your fellow miners need to fight them off, called "Swarm" tracks. All of the tracks you heard in this video were from that second group, and they make a good case study for what the swarm tracks are all about, which is getting your blood pumping. and the transition between the exploring tracks into the swarm tracks immediately gets you into high gear ready to shoot. There are also a few songs made for when the mission is over and your team needs to hightail it back to the extraction point before you get left behind, and those really capture the feeling of "Need to move Now!" pretty well. As for the exploration side of the ost, Fathomless Tomb and Absolute Zero are particularly great examples I'd highly recommend looking at in the future, while Follow Molly and The Last AScent are good extraction tracks. A personal favorite for the Swarm tracks is A Distant Terror, the sheer intensity feels like little else in the ost and I love that. Anyways, loved the video as always, and I look forward to seeing what soundtrack you heck out next. Rock and Stone, Miner.
Your violin during Run sounded startlingly similar to the game's nearly ever present mineral-hauling companion robot Molly's bweeps and bwoops. Appropriate; you're likely to be chasing her back to the escape vehicle used to complete your missions
The best song I've got in my head is "A Distant Terror". I love its most tense moment at the beginning and at the end. It goes very well with the atmosphere of the game.
If you continue to listen to these tracks, I would very strongly recommend "A Matter of Skill and Ammunition" and "Fathomless Tomb". Both are ambient tracks (ones that don't play during swarms), and fit the cavern aesthetic very well.
Good choice of tracks! I think these are "swarm" tracks for when Mission Control alerts the dwarves of an incoming swarm and it hits about 10 seconds later (thus the initial ramp up). Might be a good idea to group others for subsequent videos as well: a bunch of atmospheric ambiences, a bunch of getaway themes…
Oh shoot! The video I helped request for is here XD I like the interpretation of "RUN!" While it certainly can be a song meant for charging into battle, it's also used as the "escape" song. In game when your mission is done you call down a Drop Pod, once it lands however, you only have a set amount of time to get on it to end the mission, all the while bugs are crawling out of the ground all around. Miss the pod, you're stuck down in the caves. If you do another DRG video, "Journey of the Prospector" is the latest song that was added and is a must listen to.
Just found your channel, it's like I found gold. Great feed back, and your violin skills is as awesome as your violin itself! Please do a part two, personally "Leave no dwarf behind" is my favorite. Rock and stone!
i forget how different it is to just listen to these track by themselves without the caves, bugs, and explosions. i like how in axes out u added a whole very dramatic layer on top, and for dance of the dreadnaught the violin sounding like an electric guitar was cool
First time I run into this channel. I am thoroughly impressed with how you are able to add to the music so seamlessly. shows that you know what you're doing.
Love the spin you put on these tracks, also hearing these track in game is an entirely different experience from listening to them without running for your life.
You listened to battle themes of the game which most have a few seconds of calm after mission announces a swarm incoming and then once mission controls says something about the lines of "Swarm they're here!" the drop comes edit: I would recommend listening to march of the brave next
Listen, you can tell these songs are good at ambiance is that, even divorced from the game's context of them only playing during enemy waves, you just get the feeling of "oh god, something's coming". And it is. A lot of somethings. So haul ass!
It's a much older game now, but the Spiral Knights OST will always be dear to my heart. Every song helped set the vibrant for each level and enemy type, and some are just perfect BG music to relax to
OH MAN, i remember that game, spending hours on the HUB and taking my time on each dungeon just because of the music, i never played that much of the game, but everything i remember from the game are good memories....sad that the game is just a husk of what it used to be.
If you haven't already, you should definitely check out some of the monsters themes from Monster Hunter World/Iceborne. Bazelgeuse's and Shara Ishvaldas themes are nice.
3:15 Nail on the head! THis is THE track that plays whenever a mission is over and its time to RUN to the drop pod to extract and escape. But there's a timer, 5 minutes and it leaves with or without you!
DRG's soundtrack and audio design is top-notch, and it's sad that the person responsible for it JUST left the studio to pursue other projects. The new guy they've brought in has made a single new track for the game, and while it's excellent in its own right, it's stylistically quite different from the music that game before. It's yet to be seen if this new person will hold up to the unusually high standard of quality set by their predecessor.
Although "Run!" always signifies imminent danger I can't help but feel excited, hyped when it starts playing. I won't run, I'll stand my ground and fight. For Rock and Stone!
To set the mood of this game, you are 1/4 types of dwarfs in a company called "Deep Rock Galactic" or DRC for short. Classes being Engineer, scout, driller and gunner, your job is to go to zones on an alien planet infested to shit by basically spider hybrids of ants, flies, beetles and others as well as a competing company for the recourses of that planet. And remember, "ROCK AND STONE BROTHA!". Lol
For me, "Dance of The Dreadnought" is the best combat music. That upbeat guitar really captures the triumphant thrill of splattering Glyphid guts everywhere!
I love hearing your analysis of music because it gives me the words to describe genres of music I enjoy. "Synth Gothic Rock" is really cool to learn about. Glad this finally came out! I've been eagerly awaiting it! Would love for the opportunity for another video and some of the other high-octane DRG tracks to get a chance to be listened to (and get a sweet as electric violin playover! That playover of "Axes out!" was just amazing!)
We need another! Even if just robot getaway which is maybe THE most iconic DRG theme Other notables are Fathomless Tomb (a purely atmospheric one), Follow Molly and the Journey of the Prospector (Troel's swan song to DRG) but really, cant go wrong just covering more
One thing I like about the drg swarm/combat soundtracks is that they match up to the average default firing speed and reload of most weapons, so it makes it really easy to sync yourself up to the music and get into a flow state which makes the combat that much more satisfying
Rock and stone! I was meaning to put some DRG tunes in your submission box but never got around to it. Glad to see I wasn't the only one who wanted you to enjoy some dwarven bops. Aside from the ones you already reacted to, I was going to suggest Robot Getaway, In the Belly of the Beast, Leave No Dwarf Behind, March of the Brave and They're Here!
That's what's interesting. All soundtracks are built during the mission so as to form an atmospheric story. First, calm and relaxing cave exploration music. When a battle with a swarm of bugs begins, the music switches to "combat mode". And during the mission, the replace each other. And when you need to return to the base, the music immediately begins to describe the escape, because if the dwarf does not get to the rescue capsule, then he will be torn to pieces by huge predatory cockroaches. And of course there is the music of fighting bosses. The same Dance of a Dreadnought describes a battle with a huge and extremely dangerous monster.
Highly recommend "Follow Molly," "Robot Getaway," "Echoes of the Past," and "Ode to the Fallen". You only listened to 'swarm' songs this video, and the game has a much wider array of music than that.
To be completely honest even though i love deep rock galatic as one of my favorite games ever, most of the ambience soundtrack like these i just appreciate and that's it However that piece when we have to rush to the drop pod at the end of a mission gets me completely every time Edit: i wanted to listen to it again, the name is fittingly "leave no dwarf behind" if you wondered
Please do more deep rock galactic its honestly all good. don't forget the more deep soulful ambience pieces like fathomless tomb. also fun fact, the main melodies of dance of the dreadnaught are made with a synthesised harmonica :)
OMG I know ppl love the high octane themes of drg but for me theres nothing like hearing "Fathomless tomb" and atoping to take it all in... beat atmospheric theme by far
man, your videos are great, if you only knew how satisfying and nice it is to see somebody actually enjoy music as much as you do and not only that but also enjoy it in a professional way and appreciating every bit of it, thank you
10 months later... this shows up in my feed after ~50 hrs between BRG and survivor, I hear 3 songs inspired by 3 games; Super Metroid, Castlevania, and Doom.
Perfectly captures that feeling of "WHERE THE HELL DO WE GO NOW" when Molly phases through a 2-inch wide hole in the ceiling of a cathedral-sized cavern.

Bros lighting so good I thought it was a really good 3D model for a sec💀
That's it lads, for ROCK AND STONE!!
@@VampireJester rock and stone!
That guy at Mission Control... He really has a cozy job.
Bro, the eyes just *widening* as dance of the dreadnaught kicks in
Please do more deep rock galactic its honestly all good. don't forget the more deep soulful ambience pieces like fathomless tomb. also fun fact, the main melodies of dance of the dreadnaught are made with a synthesised harmonica :)
OMG I know ppl love the high octane themes of drg but for me theres nothing like hearing "Fathomless tomb" and atoping to take it all in... beat atmospheric theme by far
I heard RUN! start and I felt the swarm coming...
man, your videos are great, if you only knew how satisfying and nice it is to see somebody actually enjoy music as much as you do and not only that but also enjoy it in a professional way and appreciating every bit of it, thank you
10 months later... this shows up in my feed after ~50 hrs between BRG and survivor, I hear 3 songs inspired by 3 games; Super Metroid, Castlevania, and Doom.
Violin on the second track sounded majestic. Rock and stone, brotha!
Can you do Follow Molly next please? It's a very iconic song from this soundtrack. It perfectly captures the feeling and atmosphere of this game.
Perfectly captures that feeling of "WHERE THE HELL DO WE GO NOW" when Molly phases through a 2-inch wide hole in the ceiling of a cathedral-sized cavern.
