These songs are amazing. We're lucky we got two volumes but if a third comes out, I might freak. Dance of the Dreadnought is probably my favorite. Im hoping if their is a volume 3, praying to the lords above for it, it'll have more metal tones, of course keeping with the synthwaves

But anyway, almost every track in the game is great, it fits the mood and builds the atmosphere perfectly.

My all-time favorite would still be "Leave No Dwarf Behind" because it really feels epic as it builds up and reaches the crescendo of the track and fits the extraction phase of a mission.
12:15 "Axes out" is one of my favorite songs in this game. Yes, it's weird. But it reminds you that you are playing a dwarf on a deep space mission fighting giant bugs in enormous hollow tree biom. And there's nothing normal in it.
My favorite song has to be "Echoes from the Past", in Volume 2. To explain why it's my favorite I need to go in a bit of background. I love dwarves, a LOT. In every fantasy setting ever devised I will instantly align myself towards the direction of the dwarves or the race most inspired by dwarves. This track, in my opinion, perfectly encapsulates my love of the long-bearded short-men that dig dirt and rock stone. What sounds like a low-humming choir in the background with what I could only describe as the sprawling vastness of an underground stone-carved fortress backing it up perfectly summarizes my love for all things Dwarven. That ability to perfectly capture a theme and then gently shift it to perfectly mesh with the synthy vibes of the rest of the game is nothing short of miraculous and amazing. I could listen to this track all day, and night!
What got me hooked in the game was the music. I was so thrilled that I adjusted my music up and sometime later I had team mates shouting at me "Hey Montanhez, can't u hear my calls?"

What I love about the soundtrack is that I don’t notice it all the time. And that’s not a bad thing. The reason I don’t notice it is because it just fits the mindset I’m in while I’m playing so perfectly, it just feels like any other part of the game. And the times when it does stick out are when it should, with the swarms and escapes.
Thank you for making this, it was a great 13 minutes of my day. "There are things in Deep Rock that I'd say don't get enough praise and one of those things just so happens to be the music." Dude. The music in DRG is easily one of the best things in it. I can't even imagine being without it and I often find myself sitting listening to it even when I'm not playing. When it comes to favorite songs, though, I think mine has to be track 16 from volume one; Leave No Dwarf Behind. I couldn't possibly tell you how many times I've had that play while running for my life towards the drop pod, hounded by all the glyphids ever. I like to play Gunner a lot and when the song hits 1.36 minutes in is the theme song for when I'm standing on the ramp to the pod, pouring fire into the horde while waiting for Molly to get in place.
Hold My Beard, how could you Ignore Hold My Beard? Legit though, I have some amazing memories with these songs! Axes Out being the First Swarm theme I heard from Soundtrack 2! (Played the Experimental and had a Blast doing so!) It's astonished what was accomplished with this Soundtrack and to the Quality, it reached too!
I absolutely love the entirety of DRG soundtrack, and "Into the Abyss" to me is like the theme song of the game and indifference of DRG to their workers. I used to take a deep liking in "Fathomless Tomb" due to how isolated it makes you feel (especially in solo missions), I've switched to the "Absolute zero" side however. It just sounds so... Out of place when put in comparison to other ambient musical tracks. It's so incredibly melancholic in a way, but hopeful at the same time. Speaking of extraction music, "Follow Molly" has to be that something i eagerly await at the refuelling stage on Salvage operations. This is the moment where it really shines, especially when put in the context of last stage in Elite Deep Dives.
Just to add, sound in central to good design in games. What the sound designer in DRG did for his first project like this is phenomenal. It gels extremely well with the ambients and other sounds in the game. DRG is my favorite recent game by a large stretch thanks to it's foundational design decisions.
As i relistened to the soundtrack for the hundreth time, I was thinking "huh, the drops are quieter than I recall", until I remember that the soundtracks are pretty much perfectly timed out so that the drop is actually the sound of several dozen glyphids spawning and screaming at you
What I especially love about Robot Getaway is the galloping synth. It adds this great sense of urgency and direction. Especially works great with the bleeping of Molly's markers. When I was playing for the first time and I hit the button on the MULE and this started playing I was hooked.
No one here mentioning Ode to the Fallen saddens me a bit, its tone of sombre reflection over a grandiose mission of the poor dwarves never fails me to give me chill every time I enter the memorial hall...
Dance of the Dreadnought was inspired by QOTSA?? My favorite track from the game! And it makes perfect sense. Now that you mentioned I can definitely hear it! I wonder if Josh Homme has played this game. :)
Fathomless Tomb caught me by surprised when i had my headset on and was playing with my husband and his cousin. Heard the 3min part and was just baffled, the made caves feel so.......magical, melancholy, and just something worth exploring.
The music makes even the most dull things to do feel so cinematic. In salvage missions when the drop pod is charging up and getting ready to take you out straight up feels like the ending to a movie. The game wouldnt be the same without it
The Soundtrack is literally what keeps me playing the game. It is amazing, because it does the heavy lifting setting the tone with the dark atmosphere! A distant Terror is my favorite, but thats a tought choice! Your video editing is also great! Keep at it, its rare to see such quality with low subs!
Yes! I was realy hoping you'd make a video on this games music because it really does a phenomenal job at immersing you into the hostile but beautiful envoroments of hoxxes. Rock and stone!
Playing this on Xbox One i can tell you that when loading into a max complex and max length mining expedition, i get to hear that cool part of The Descent
I never knew what the names to all the songs where, but when you started talking about robot getaway and how it is "the deep rock galactic song' I knew immediately which one it was
I used to have robot getaway as my favorite, but after listening to the soundtrack many times I grew to have Leave No Dwarf Behind be my favorite. It became that just because of the one part that of the song that it builds up. This is timed so well most of the time with the time that you get to the drop pod with your team. This is also where you realize there is only 3 of you and you go back for the last dwarf, hence the name. It just makes going back and even being saved sound so heroic in a way and improves the experience by a lot for me.
5.26 Me: Having goosebumps while listening to that part and remembering hearing it when was joining DRG servers on my old DUAL core computer. :D Good song part, but im happy not to hear it anymore during loading. :)
Dance of the dreadnought feels like it could very well fit into one of the newer doom games, when it plays during a swarm i notice myself playing more aggressively and i tend to use my mobility more just like doom music does in that game. Its really cool how much of a psychological efect music has on the player
I personally think "the last ascend" is the best extraction song. It's just this giant build up and drops with a whole orchestra cheering you on while you tear your way though hoards of enemies. It has something insanely empowering to it. It's best when your team just called in the pod and want to leave but suddenly there are dozens of spiders blocking your way and as you start the battle the orchestra kicks in.
Hearing "Run" kick in on my first liquid morkite mission while I was learning you could grind on the pipes is genuinely what made me stick with DRG. The absolute rush of adrenaline as the music swells and the swarm starts while you're riding up and down pipes through these twisting and dark caverns made me feel maybe the coolest I've ever felt in a video game
Interstellar nightmares is one of my favourites from volume 2, its a synth wave organ that blares out when you hatch the dreadnoughts from their eggs. I think I like it so much because I had my music super loud when I first experienced it back when 1.0 came out. So the loud siren like organ sounds fit perfectly while me and my team were getting chased around a cave
I am a big fan of this ost, it's almost alway playing in my headphones when I work/walk/ride and everything else. That was the biggest selling point for me. I remember looking up reviews of the game, where reviewer talks over game play, an thought "maybe I'll get it on sale" but then I stumbled upon this ost, without knowing that was for drg, I rushed on steam and got the game before track ended, sadly my pc is crapy, I couldn't play it comfortably, but still got 170 hours in it. Since I have a ps4 the idea of release on it was always in the back of my mind, and I always had money for pre-order, Santa is actually real since not only game came out during new year holidays, it's free, which is to me insane, I immediately got all the dlc. Found some dwarfs that are struggling with missions since there is no translation for my native language, as of right now, and some times this dwarfs are clueless to what they supposed to be doing. I don't know why I told about this but yeah, to me drg is one of the best games, can't wait to see new seasons. Big thank you to this amazing developers. Rock and stone!
Can’t believe this video is a year old. I keep coming back to this video because we’ll I love it and I love hearing you praise the good things in deep rock. Rock and stone brother
My favorite part of Fathomless Tomb is the humming portions. Combined with the visuals evoked by the word "tomb", it almost sounds like, for lack of a better term, Project Dwarka music.
In the Belly of the Beast and RUN (I love the Prodigy) always get my blood pumping. When I first heard Dance of the Dreadnought I didn't think it would fit with the rest of the soundtrack, but it's pretty killer in game. The only one I don't really like is Axes Out. It feels like a weird carnival ride track. It doesn't ruin the experience, but if I could disable one track out of both volumes that would be it. Over 400 hours in the game, and I still love the music. Great content so far! Just discovered your channel, and sat here watching all your DRG stuff in one go. I freaking love everything about this game, and I'm glad some people are making interesting videos for it. ROCK! AND! STOOOOOOOOONE!
The "loading screen song" also plays during missions though. I love it because of that one part too, and I always hear it in some of my missions. My favorite song, probably (unpopular opinion) is Deceived by Light. I always wanted a remix of that song with boosted bass and a more punchy beat
When I did my first hazard 5 game with my friends i turned my game volume up more so I can hear the sound cues of enemies. What I didn't expect was "Run!" To blast in my ears alongside the glyphid swarm noises. Full communication. Best teamwork yet. We Barely said a word but we were all working together to the intense synth beats like a well oiled machine. And I honestly don't think we would've beaten that mission if it weren't for that intense music accompaniment. One of my most memorable gaming moments ever! Rock and stone!
Apart from RUN being my favourite track, the entirety of DRG's soundscape from Sountrack to steps, clinking Flares and bug screams echoing in the distance just makes it. Some people consider sound design an afterthought. But every single one of my favourite games uses sound to turn it from a good to a godly game. Don't sleep on proper sound design.
The latter half of "the last ascent" is one of the most inspirational tracks in the ost for me, hearing that play while running for extract from a swarm is one of the best experieces I can have in this game.
In my opinion, having swarm specific songs would be really fun to have personally but with how rare they can be I understand. Honestly axes out gave me spiral knights vibes which made me seek out the music and enjoy just how well crafted the ost is.
"Deceived by Light" and "Into the Abyss" are my favorite tracks hands-down, followed closely by "Echoes of the Past" and "Absolute Zero". I love atmospheric tracks that really bring to mind the loneliness of Hoxxes during those rare quiet moments of exploration when the Dwarves are largely left alone by the swarms. The tracks played during swarms and escapes are still great background music for their respective roles, but as a horror buff who grew up with the Thing and Alien (and later Event Horizon) being counted among my favorite Sci-if horror films, I LOVE exploration of the unknown and the idea that the protagonists are truly alone out there. Even with support from DRG Mission Control, there are hundreds - thousands - of feet of solid rock/sand/ice/earth between them and the Mining Team. Also, it almost adds to just how deep and expansive Hoxxes feels when the first hostile warning you get during the lonely peace of one of the above songs is the echoing screech of a distant yet fast-approaching Mactera Grabber... or the soul-sinking quivering growl of a Detonator. :)
I think all of the dreadnaught themes are extremely well done for what message they try to convey. This huge, stomping, relentless terror is awake and *pissed off* , and its coming for you, and the music conveys that message perfectly.
Your channel is incredibly underrated, your videos are qualitative and I have no doubt that you will receive the visibility you deserve. Force to you :)
Something else that can also not be praised enough, is the quality of your videos. The effort really goes to show. From what I’ve seen there’s a continuously - very high - quality standard and I’m amazed by that. I also want to point out the clear and calm narrator voice of yours. Good Stuff!
I'm of the belief that a good soundtrack is one that blends so well into the environment you don't notice it unless you're trying to notice it. That leads to music being overlooked as part of the experience in most games but much like forsaken, quake, killing floor 2 and even borderlands 3, deep rock wouldnt be the same without the incredible tunes to set the mood, the swarm songs always get me pumped to kick some space bug ass and swarms would probably just get annoying without them, I cant even pick a true favorite but dance of the dreadnaught is up there
Ironically, I'd been defeated so many times to Axes Out in my mid hours playing the game that for a while a few months ago that song was genuinely more unnerving to me than Run (which is imo the most intense and awesome swarm music)
“leave no dwarf behind” is my favorite one on volume 1. the part that begins around 1:30 in the song makes me feel like i’m going to revive a downed teammate as the drop pod timer ticks down
“Echoes of the past” and “Deceived by light” are kickass. Every song in the game just bops, fits the gameplay and atmosphere beautifully yet it’s unique. Great video! I’ll hope to see you in the caves, rock and stone!
That's a really cool, in-depth look into the soundtrack! I'm not a big fan of this style of music so I don't really listen to it outside the game (as I do with many, many soundtracks), but it is undeniably the correct choice to the game and is executed flawlessly. I couldn't imagine playing this game without its music, it would definitely take away from the great atmosphere this game has so carefully crafted.
That's CRAZY, I had no idea about this whole story about the music in DRG- but I was in the space rig one day or in a match and I'm like "I swear this sounds a lot like the music in John Carpenter's The Thing" and then I continued to pay greater attention to the music and sound and I was like "Naaaah, it couldn't be" But now cause of this video I'm so glad I realized it was actually a direct point of inspiration. I love that. The Thing is a fantastic film and the score behind it really had an eerie feel to that movie which added a slow burn tension to it that really fit the central concepts and atmosphere of isolation and mistrust. That same sense of isolation translates REALLY well into DRG.
i think one of the most satisfying things is when your shots start lining up to the beat of the song. honestly i think i actually play worse when i cant hear the music because the vibes are just that damn good
The entire soundtrack is unfathomably based, but nothing quite reminds me of just how horrific the work the dwarves are doing is as well as “Fighting the Shadows.” The implications of the Dreadnoughts being literal biological WAR machines that we are expected to take down on their own turf is terrifying. I feel this track perfectly captures the potential for damage, chaos, and death that they bring, especially the Hivegaurd. Not to mention when one randomly shows up on a non-Elimination mission. Great video, I’m glad so many others gush over the soundtrack like me!
IMO a good soundtrack is ESSENTIAL to creating the proper atmosphere for a game, and drg’s soundtracks nails it perfectly. Also a lot of the jukebox music (especially the rock songs) are suprisingly really good
Im not sure which song its from, but theres this one part where everything goes quiet save for one lone harmonica playing this sort of despairing tune..... when youre 30 seconds away from being left behind, doding praetorians and grabbers, wondering if this is your solemn end. Your mining crew is doing there best to cover you, the beat starts speeding up, theres 10 seconds now. Your on your last clip. You toss your final grenade in a bid with death and reach the drill, the gate slamming behind you. Idk which song it is. But everytime it plays, i feel like im about to bite it. Its incredible when you dont
I know this song wasn't out when this video was made, but after listening to both volumes of the soundtrack, I think "Journey Of The Prospector" is my favorite in the ost. It's a pretty close call though, the whole ost is just so good that I almost feel bad for having a favorite.
thanks for all of the support on the video, it is much appreciated!
Thank YOU for the great content!

The drilldozer missions. 😝
I'll never forget my first time playing drg, the tone set by the music was a major part of that experience
Fathomless tomb, when you breach a cave hits just right like there should be twinkles on the cave that make you wonder what's in it.
I looked an hour ago on your channel because I remembered that video ,and just got the notification of it. What a coincidence.
7:31 holy goosebumps. Your edits are so good dude! Best stuff since Every Frame A Painting ended on yt :)
Dance of the dreadnought feels like it could very well fit into one of the newer doom games, when it plays during a swarm i notice myself playing more aggressively and i tend to use my mobility more just like doom music does in that game. Its really cool how much of a psychological efect music has on the player
wow you're totally right
I agree
Play as scout and only use the boomstick, its what i do when that happens
RUN!: I'm stuck down here with you...
Dance with Dreadnought: YOU'RE STUCK DOWN HERE WITH ME
I personally think "the last ascend" is the best extraction song.
I personally think “Axes Out” is amazing. With that build up during a horde, ohhhh man
Interstellar nightmares is one of my favourites from volume 2, its a synth wave organ that blares out when you hatch the dreadnoughts from their eggs.
Rock and stone!
sniss: What is your favorite volume and song ?
Me: YES !
OMG, I love this music.
The only thing I don't like about this video is that it's not long enough. Hook it directly into my beard.
Well done. Rock and Stone.
Axes Out is my favorite song on the sound track. I can never not be happy when It's on, and it really does feel like a dwarf song to me.
The main thing i got from this video is that all the music is absolutely amazing
Surprise to see someone mention project Dwarka.
I love the tracks with heavy machinery in the background
When I did my first hazard 5 game with my friends i turned my game volume up more so I can hear the sound cues of enemies. What I didn't expect was "Run!" To blast in my ears alongside the glyphid swarm noises. Full communication. Best teamwork yet. We Barely said a word but we were all working together to the intense synth beats like a well oiled machine. And I honestly don't think we would've beaten that mission if it weren't for that intense music accompaniment. One of my most memorable gaming moments ever! Rock and stone!
Every swarm track has me cackling like a madman and screaming "COME AND GET SOME", they're so fucking good
I really hope we got more dark sorta like we are getting overrun type stuff like run and distant terror
My favorite's gotta be "The Last Ascent". There's just something about the tone that's bleak, yet hopeful, desperate but courageous. I just love it.
I can't believe you slept on In The Belly Of The Beast so hard. God tier swarm song, and my current ringtone :)
In my opinion, having swarm specific songs would be really fun to have personally but with how rare they can be I understand.
Honestly axes out gave me spiral knights vibes which made me seek out the music and enjoy just how well crafted the ost is.
Did i see someone just.. mention spiral knights? Holy shit
“The Shadows are Moving” is so atmospheric and the beginning notes create a sense of dispense, I am in love with it.
mining expeditions in between swarms have a great feel. it just feels right to explore lonely caves for a bit
I think it would be cool if in the last minute of the drop pod leaving, the music should get way more intense.
I like axes out a lot, especially when it goes in sync with the drilldozer drilling the heartstone
I think all of the dreadnaught themes are extremely well done for what message they try to convey. This huge, stomping, relentless terror is awake and *pissed off* , and its coming for you, and the music conveys that message perfectly.
5:11 pov you’ve been playing missions for 8 hours and go to sleep
That's CRAZY, I had no idea about this whole story about the music in DRG- but I was in the space rig one day or in a match and I'm like "I swear this sounds a lot like the music in John Carpenter's The Thing" and then I continued to pay greater attention to the music and sound and I was like "Naaaah, it couldn't be"
But now cause of this video I'm so glad I realized it was actually a direct point of inspiration. I love that. The Thing is a fantastic film and the score behind it really had an eerie feel to that movie which added a slow burn tension to it that really fit the central concepts and atmosphere of isolation and mistrust. That same sense of isolation translates REALLY well into DRG.
i think one of the most satisfying things is when your shots start lining up to the beat of the song.
honestly i think i actually play worse when i cant hear the music because the vibes are just that damn good
I’m so glad you make these “____ of Deep Rock Galactic” videos. It helps address with detail the highlights of the game, and just how good it is.
I never realized how much the music kept me invested in playing the game when I picked it up
The entire soundtrack is unfathomably based, but nothing quite reminds me of just how horrific the work the dwarves are doing is as well as “Fighting the Shadows.” The implications of the Dreadnoughts being literal biological WAR machines that we are expected to take down on their own turf is terrifying.
“Follow Molly” is fantastic
I know this song wasn't out when this video was made, but after listening to both volumes of the soundtrack, I think "Journey Of The Prospector" is my favorite in the ost. It's a pretty close call though, the whole ost is just so good that I almost feel bad for having a favorite.
