Hi, I ‘ve just seen the vlog : just a great place you’ve! I’m from Italy and I’m starting this new adventure with the birds of prey, in particular we’re going to have a bengalesis eagle owl. I’m preparing the aviary and I was wondering if you can give some tips to create a good place for the bird. I can share some photos of the place I’m building. Thanks in advance. Andrea

Hey Andrea. The video explains most of the detail but I would be glad to help you out. If you can, send me some photos so i can have a better idea of what you are building. You can reach me on Facebook at Spirit Hawk Photography or email northcountrytraders@yahoo.com
Where in Italia do you live?

A Place Called Hope thank you very much for your answer and availability!!! I live in the north-east part of Italy, in particular in the countryside around Verona. I’ll send you an e-mail with some photos of what I’m building. Thanks again!

What flooring would you suggest for a indoor free loft aviary ?

What gauge did you use for the wire mesh fencing?

Sorry for the delay. I believe it is 18 gauge. Vinyl coated galvanized hardware-cloth. I pay $199.00 for a 3 feet x 100 feet roll. Typical cost is around $300.

Hi. How do u deal with flies in an aviery. I am in the uk and i have a barn owl. I feed him on mice and chicks, trouble is he doesnt eat all his food at once and flies get in and become a pest. I have tried fine netting on the door and window but this just seemed to keep them in rather than out. The aviery is kept clean, not spotless of course, but relatively clean, any uneaten food is removed but it does not stop them. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hey John. Flies are tough. They lay their eggs on the mice and chicks which turn to maggots and then to flies. We use The Ranch Fly Traps. Simple, reusable and very affective. I also screen some of the aviaries to help with mosquito control. For that I use Pet Screen.

I use fly predators from Spalding Labs in Nevada. Have used them for years. My neighbors are amazed as well since the predators, which look like ants spread quite a bit Horses and pointing dogs...
