CHEAPEST WAY TO FRAME A SKOOLIE IF YOU HAVE TO BUY WOOD - Speakeasy Skoolie

  • If you can’t find or get cheap used or free materials for your framing/build then this video will probably help you! Where we are located at people burn excess supplies or they keep them. It’s very rural and the closest Home Depot is an hour or so away from us, but it’s the only place where we can buy large amounts of wood at current prices (the local hardware/wood store costs double what HD/Lowes does) and with all these crazy price hikes on wood we had to change up our original plan - we are just getting started in framing our bus but currently the best bang for our buck has been using 2x2's for everything! the cheapest option and we will be able to put cheaper thinner panels over top of it. It's a win win for us and we hope it will be for you too!
So far here is what we've gotten
2 weeks ago we bought 2 bundles of 2x2s for $60
3 days ago we bought 3 bundles of 2x2s for $150
5lb box of wood to wood construction screws for $30
    Tex Screws - box of 30 screws - $15 per box ( 4 boxes)
    Loctite Glue Tube - $6 per (2)
as of the end of this video we have a bundle and a half of 2x2s left and still have 2 boxes of tex screws and about 2/3 of our other box of wood screws.
We did drive over an hour each way in the bus to the nearest home depot. So not sure how much in gas we spent so far but we will be going out again next week for more supplies.
For items we use and recommend hit the link

Please comment with any question you might have so we can address them in our next video!
Keep tuned for part 2 of framing out our vertical walls!

I really enjoyed the video, I'm a huge fan of shows like This old House and Counting Cars. It this seems like a mix of both.

Any problems with leakage from the roof/ceiling? I stripped the ceiling and insulation, and had to plug 5 little leaks. Same bus, 2001 Bluebird 40-footer

We very strongly searched and checked our bus for leaks. When we first got it gutted we ended up having a week of heavy thunderstorms come through and each one we would go out and check again, inch by inch. Not one leak. We were very lucky to find such a good bus.

@@ontherocks_offthegrid Well, that IS lucky I suppose! I plugged another one yesterday, they're all tiny so epoxy fixes it. How did you plug up your floor holes?

@@MrArik86 we used silicone and steel pipe screens. Doing it over again we would use pipe screens and jb weld or bondo. But our fix did great. A lot of people use pennies and that’s just a no go as they can corrode over time. Our fix is a permanent one. You can see how we did it on our Sealing the Floors video

Yeah we just have to buy wood. Unfortunately where we are located at there are no options for free wood or cheap throw away wood from other building projects, we have to purchase from a store.
