Transformers has been a part of my life since 1984. At that time I was 14 years old going on 15 years old and I have been a fan of Transformers ever since then. Optimus Prime is my favorite character. I have a collection of Transformers toys of Optimus Prime and Primal that are over 220 toys in it. I am 54 years old and I am proud to say I have been a Transformers fan since the beginning back in 1984. I sincerely hope that the Transformers franchise outlives me.
I too felt the same of Prime. I lost my father when I wasn't even 3. Afterwards, step-fathers I've had were abusive. Only with the coming of Prime, I identified to him and tried to mimic him in some way, though not flawlessly.
What makes G1 so endearing and stand the test of time is the humanity and character and distinctness of each of the autobots and decepticons and how their personalities play into the plot. This is what Micheal Bay and all the live action movies don’t get.
They do focus too much on the human characters, when if anything the humans should be playing off the Transformer characters to help show or emphasize those personality traits. The Skybound comics has a great take on Optimus' interaction when exploring Earth.
This point about Prime's fatherly voice is very interesting. The warmth, calm and patience, guidance and inspiration in it. Almost like a perfect father, really, or God.
Sadly, this is Peter's best voicework of Optimus in the franchise. The writing on this version is also what makes him a stand-out compared to his other roles like his Prime iteration.
Generation 1 forever cause we gen x kids had it first. Now I get to show my son who’s starting to like the transformers. Life can be a beautiful thing sometimes when little moments like this happen

We do have to remember that it was TF 2007 that reignited the entire franchise and brought the TF universe to full live action (and also returning Peter Cullen's voice as Optimus). And for THAT (and Only that) I will be forever Grateful. I am hopeful that future live action films improve over Bay films such as Bumblebee and RotB.
The G1 Movie was absolutely epic! The animation quality, music and ideas were ahead of its time. It truly did define the franchise. And it didn’t need to pander to societal trends. Just purely focused on its own self promotion!
The episodic nature of the show allowed for faster pacing while having a story centered around various characters unlike building towards arcs or a slow burn as other shows like the UT can be.
One of thee best things of G1 Transformers was their awesome names... Thundercracker, Soundwave, Starscream, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack, Grimlock, Jazz, etc...and of course, Optimus Prime and Megatron... As a 10 year old in 1984, these names were just the coolest. 😎
Generation 1 is and will always be the best. I can watch seasons 1 and 2 and never get tired of the episodes. The characters were so awesome and we cared what happened to them from episode to episode. I later learned to love the 86 movie and did warm up to the characters that followed. Arcee became a real favorite as well as springer and kup. In my eyes the G1 toy line will never be surpassed. And yes there are more accurate cartoon figures out there and I am glad they exist and I probably have most of them but the original ones still have a huge place for us as original G1 fans...
Generation 1's early seasons had a lot of fun to them. Season 3 had a different tone but you could feel the stakes were higher. By the time Optimus came back by the Rebirth, they seemed in a rush to the finish.
@RedlineRendezvous I was 12 when the movie hit in 86 and was getting more into BMX and motorcycles and 4 wheelers. After the movie I really kinda lost interest I guess. It was later on when I found out they brought optimus back but by then I was not watching cartoons anymore. Season 1 and 2 and the movie are still my favorite episodes. As I got older and started collecting the toys I watch the G1 episodes very often now
The coolest thing is you on saturday morning seeing an episode of transformers G1,and when you look around you see your collection of Masterpieces. Hell yeah dreams came true
I never knew the dreams quote was based on a real life tragic story. It really shows how inspirational Optimus Prime truly is and why he is a great hero for all ages. Transformers G1 deserves more praise. It laid the foundation for the franchise If it wasn't for G1, there would be no Beast Wars, Transformers Animated, Prime, Bay films or Transformers one. There was a lot on G1 Optimus that was truly special, not just to those who watched the show but the cast as well. Everyone except the corporate high ups but that's to be expected.
I may have never grown up in the 80s (which i wish i did) but after watching the entire g1 series as a young adult, i am 23 now, and i have seen prime and the bay movies, and i can say in full confidence, that g1 is the best series in transformers history. I have already watched the series completely 2 times, and I am still watching it to this day 😂
Everything about G1 Transformers was awesome!!! I remember the first time I saw Devastator. I HAD to have the Constructicons for Christmas that year!!! And then cane Omega Supreme!!! Had to have him too!
G1 is what I grew up on. I was there when it first aired and I just seen Transformers One. I have been a fan all of the 40 years. I have enjoyed some of the other series over the years and they are belong to the mythology. But none would be around if it wasn't for G1.
The myth building/lore is something the execs at Hasbro should’ve got on their knees and thanked the folks at Marvel and other writers for. G1 can be a mess, but the mythology was something that mattered to those writers and provided a base to stand for decades.

For the time it came out in 1984 I was about 9 years old I had no idea a Japanese line of transforming robots toys like Diaclone existed. To me it was a very brand new franchise just like the GI Joe toy and comic book franchise. So the excitement about this new phenomenon was very real. Even 20/20 did a news segment about the Transformers Japanese robot toy phenomenon. If I could only find that video.
I saw that film as a child when it came out. 80s films were the most entertaining. It is worth noting that a toy line enduring is one thing but a single character and a voice make it a pop culture icon. Peter Cullen.
I am so grateful to have been an 11 year old kid in 1984. If Transformers had debuted just a year or two later, I probably would have been too old for them. As is stands right now, I am probably a lot poorer financially than I would have been. But so much richer mentally having been a part of the world of Transformers since day one.
It's a safe bet that most people who became invested enough in the Transformers are "poorer financially". However, it's good you still see the value it brought you. It's been able to create new friendships for many and communities.
i came in late in 91 during my freshmen year in high school, watching reruns on Fox in the morning before school. then of course later began collecting the re-releases in 02. i got most of the ones i always wanted. finally sad the movie on VHS years later as well. now i can't help myself wanting to but a figure after watching an old episode. i have to just go to my collection and be HAPPY with what i have.
I’m 49 now, and it takes me back to those times, my folks got divorced and we was like a father figure to me, joined the marines as a military police officer.
There are so many great episodes in season three of Transformers, especially webworld, five faces of darkness, the burden hardest to bear, the ultimate weapon, chaos, starscreams ghost, ghost in the machine, the quintesson journal, and the big broadcast of 2006.
The well developed, varied, and consistent characters, masterful voice acting, occasionally superb animation, and most importantly the consistent believable moral standpoint of Optimus Prime. Yes it was a 22 minute commercial, but it was a real story too. Kids shows today aren’t even stories and commercials. They’re intellectual properties, brands, lifestyles. They have no coherent plot, because they’re designed to be palatable for the Chinese market, and because they have to appeal to Chinese values and not offend She Jinping nothing happens.
Agreed, it is a sad change when entertainment is more "consumable" than actual quality. Toy commercial shows like G1, Beast Wars, and Cybertron can have a lot of great teaching lessons. It's one aspect I believe MLP:FiM became more popular than TF: Prime.
And just before that, you can see a visual representation of Bumblebee taking Hound's place in the spotlight, like how Hound was supposed to be Spike's main friend instead of Bee.
I was 9 when they came out. I had pretty much moved on from toys, Star Wars, Masters of the Universe, I thought of it as kiddie stuff. I wanted video games. Then these hit, and I decided, maybe I should be a kid for a few more years. I didn't know it was going to be 41 more years though.
Don’t know if anyone else here can relate, but I’ve watched a TON of transformers content videos over the last few years. And if this wasn’t the best, it’s top 5. It just really resonated with me (that’s until the trap beat started playing towards the end). But as I looked at the rest of the content on the channel, I was surprised to see the nature of it. High speed chases?? I was shocked at the difference of quality. It was like having a nice date with someone, but when you get to know her, you realize all she watches is reality tv & TikTok. Maybe not the best comparison but you get the point.

@@Knowledge01 I can understand reasons 1 and 3 as not being a fan of the character design. 5 and 6 I can agree even if the sex was mainly with the dogs... 2 is confusing but 4 is what G1 is. Mostly stand-alone episodes.

I like beautiful women as much as the next man, but it doesnt belong in Transformers. Of course G1 was stand alone episodes. They weren't movies - and even without being movies, they stayed internally consistent for the most part. bay movies completely ignore each other. Skating transformers was only cool the first time i saw it. When they kept skating i was like... that's freakin corny!

Those movies were pretty terrible... also all bad guys are grey SOME transformations were cool and others were cheap ... especially when they made GALVATRON a remote controlled truck. That is so stupid. What a waste. And the transforming effect in that enrages me. Plus he was making transformers vs g.i. joe but not in name. That's distracting. I never even bothered to watch the one with C3PO in it.

A lot of characters were just tossed aside carelessly, when the other option would be to just focus more on the newer characters and keep the older as the background. It would be interesting to see a smarter brutal Grimlock. Cyberverse take was interesting to say the least. Rodimus got too much hate.

As a TF fan who grew up with the Bayverse but recently learned to appreciate the source material (G1, Marvel comics, Beast Wars, etc.), here are my 5 reasons for why I like G1 more than other continuities: 1. Originality: a bit of a duh moment, but Transformers started with G1, and most to all ideas branch from G1. It’s the original, the OG, which is enough for me to respect it. 2. Character focus: G1 does better what many other continuities miss, and that’s focusing on the characters themselves, with some G1 episodes being entire character-centric episodes. Again, the makes sense, considering that G1 was the first TF show and therefore tried to bring in and introduce new characters. 3. Worldbuilding: G1 took place on Cybertron, Earth, and other worlds like Junkion, Quintessa, Unicron, and a multitude of other worlds in the Japanese G1 sequels, and it took effort to make all of these locations feel real, believable, and alive. On Cybertron, you had the looming threat of Shockwave at every turn. On Earth, you had different nations, fictional and real, join sides with either the Autobots and the Decepticons with their own interests in mind. Unicron was his own planet, and Junkion and Quintessa introduced two new races to the Transformers world. 4. Storytelling: G1 was a character-focused and character-driven show, meaning that actions had consequences and the story constantly grew and expanded. If I were to compare G1 as a show to a video game, it would be like an open world game compared to a linear game with a set story structure, expanding in multiple directions at once instead of heading in one direction. G1 still, to this day, remains one of the most unique Transformers stories to exist, with most other continuities copying G1’s story with a few tweaks and deviations. 5. Humor: G1’s cheesy 80’s humor aged really well, and it’s helped by the fact that G1’s animation fails to stay consistent, with random frames being the subject of subtle humor bits. G1 is proof that a Transformers story can be both funny and dark at times, as long as the shifts in tone are handled properly and make sense given context.

I always rooted for the decepticons. In season 1 there were about 11 decepticons going against 30 autobots. Then in season 2, they introduced OMEGA SUPREME, totally unfair.
They did have a lot more Autobots in comparison. That's why they used nameless seekers, miscolored Starscreams, and the Insecticon clones to fill out the numbers. Then the Sweeps in S3.
11:30 - Ah ah ahh… 4/5ths of the Dinobots. Snarl was dropping dino nuggies in the little bots room while Grimlock and the others were destroying Devastator.

I felt it did trying to shoehorn in the Quintessans as the creators of the Transformers. Well, that and Megatron surviving an explosion that launched Cybertron hurdling in space.
''GENERATION 1'' will always be the ONLY version, especially ''THE TRANSFORMERS-THE MOVIE'', that tells and shows the dramaticism, suspense and fun of the series. Including the Toy commercials.
I will always prefer this animation version over the CG and live action ones it needs to return and what about giving us some new ones such as the transformers in their own exo suits. Whenever I saw a camercial about them I though that we would see it in the show and it would lead to more epsiodes I miss my childhood days.
It would be silly to see Transformers with exo suits. But there was that time Unicron was piloted by Megatron like a mobile suit to fight a planet sized Optimus.
I like G1 Transformers overall. I wasn't born until 1988, so I missed the original series, and Beast Wars were my transformers as a kid. I like the G1 toys a lot, but the cartoon is really hard to watch unless you watched it as a kid in the 80s. The animation errors are out of control in that show. If it doesn't have the most animation errors in an 80s cartoon, then it's definitely up there.
Transformers is notorious for animation errors, even TF: Prime had a few. G1 S3 was full of them because they tried to produce episodes while working on the movie but lacked enough resources. Rushed productions often tends to do this.
Admittedly as much as I love, G1 I wish it would get a remaster just focusing on like 10 autobots and make everyone else back-ground/ basic trooper characters. My choices would be Trailbreaker Cliffjumper Ratchet Prime Sunstreaker Grapple Hotrod Tracks Brawn Gears As much as I love almost all the autobots a lot of them just get completely ignored. I would love to see a G1 remastered in which most of the lesser known bots get the spotlight and more known ones or ones that have been used more often take a back seat. (FYI I don’t think you can do a series without Prime, and even tho Ratchet gets a lot of attention. He greatly improves anything he’s in unlike other autobots [mainly bumblebee] that get used way too often)
It did help season 3 focused on a smaller cast, easier to give everyone a bit more screentime. It worked out especially well in Beast Wars. Cyberverse to me was that more modern retelling of the G1 story with less human characters.
That would have been an interesting take. Then we might have song covers or South Park fan crossovers with G1 Optimus. But oddly fitting considering his old band name was Primus.

3:22 *Wrong. Generation 2 had it's memorable elements!* The toys, reissue and new, were Great. Generation 2 was a MUCH WELCOME retread for G1 fans. Being able to FINALLY get my hands on guys like Devastator, that eluded me in the 80's, complete w/spiffy G2 styling. I'd put that experience on-par with the 80's stuff. As for the G2 color schemes. We make jokes about them today but, at the time it looked really cool and interesting. There's a reason Hasbro loves going back to the well on that. The wacky and creative, 90's Neon colorschemes were really neat.
It could've been great had Hasbro focused on developing a show around it instead of rehashing the G1 series...again. Now it's more or less just better known for it's color palette swaps or giving G1 it's name.
@@RedlineRendezvous G2 was also the first line to experiment with more articulation, in the final year this evolved to the extensive use of ball joints which set the standard for all Transformers toylines afterward.
It would be awesome if they did continue the original Transformers from Rebirth. The second golden age for Cybertron. I did a comic of the Transformers after Rebirth. It would split and the Transformers would change to form the G2 comic book. Mine would continue from Rebirth and you would get the Power Masters. The Power Masters came from the sun that Optimus Prime sent the Autobot cemetery into. Power Master Optimus Prime was made from the one in the Autobot cemetery. His body was gone, but apart of him was still there. In a big battle with the Decepticons, the Head Masters, Target Masters, and the Power Masters were badly hurt. Something caused them to change. The Power Masters, which had holes from the great battle, to be fully repaired. Ironhide had a very damaged face. Power Master Optimus Prime was a huge change. He was repainted black and became Black Widow. He was still good, but he had a bad temper and a lot of fire power. He otherwise looked like Power Master Optimus Prime. Interestingly, the Target Masters and Head Masters would be able to combine. With the Target Masters, the guns would merge into a big gun. The heads would merge on the Head Masters. I don't remember what else there was.
@@RedlineRendezvous thank you. I'm no artist so they were basic shapes, but I think the storyline was pretty good. It would be awesome to continue the US G1 line as it ended. It would be great if it used Season 4 animation. The most interesting thing about G1 is they were the most mature Transformers for children. There were some comedy parts in it, but it was mostly insightful and inspirational. "Hold on to your dreams. The future is built on dreams."
G1 shouldn't even be a term, it should just be 'The Transformers,' but alas artistic license, capitalist hunger for change. Some of the fans aer out buying toys to this day. As of this writing I'm eagerly awaiting a masterpiece scale Slingshot to arrive. He's a pretty penny, but so damn cool. The same company has Scrapper is on the way, then an Ultra Magnus. And I'm also waiting for a Groove & Blades by another. They're all badass.
It differentiates it from every other continuity. If a story is complete, it shouldn't really need more content. Besides, sequels in the Transformers never work out well. Aren't there already 2 MP scaled Ultra Magnus that are already well-made?
The one giant plot hole that I've always hated was that Cybertron was almost out of energy. So the Autobots and Decepticons leave and end up on earth for 4 million years. Cybertron's energy would have been totally drained and everyone who stayed would have been dead because of it.

I prefer the asthetics of G1. They have a retrofuturistic look. That and I've always liked the look of classic cars. Although the cars may have been icons but they aren't classics.
Some here and there are still popular like the Countach or Fairlady Z. Shame the Firebird didn't maintain that popularity unlike the Camero thanks to the live action movies.

I love and hate the 1986 movie at the same time. Seeing Optimus Prime killed tore me up. Now that I am older I am MUCH MUCH MUCH more bothered by how they handled the deaths of IronHide, Prowl, Ratchet and Brawn. Made them look like total wimps and incompetent. They deserved far better. I do agree that killing Prime was the wrong decision, but it still could have happened in a way that was traumatic.
The 1986 movie is impressive and still has enjoyable moments, but it did so much damage to the franchise since then. Including Optimus. Or the recent releases of the Autobot shuttle crew with battle damage.

Killing megatron, starscream, and Optimus prime was the biggest mistake in the transformer film (1986). That is why it bombed in the theater. Kids cried leaving the theater at that time 🤓

We do have to remember that it was TF 2007 that reignited the entire franchise and brought the TF universe to full live action (and also returning Peter Cullen's voice as Optimus). And for THAT (and Only that) I will be forever Grateful. I am hopeful that future live action films improve over Bay films such as Bumblebee and RotB.

Nothing touches Gen 1 of the Transformers. This was such an impact on my formative years. Even at 46, I still love the Transformers.
The episodic nature of the show allowed for faster pacing while having a story centered around various characters unlike building towards arcs or a slow burn as other shows like the UT can be.

Generation 1 is and will always be the best. I can watch seasons 1 and 2 and never get tired of the episodes. The characters were so awesome and we cared what happened to them from episode to episode. I later learned to love the 86 movie and did warm up to the characters that followed. Arcee became a real favorite as well as springer and kup. In my eyes the G1 toy line will never be surpassed. And yes there are more accurate cartoon figures out there and I am glad they exist and I probably have most of them but the original ones still have a huge place for us as original G1 fans...
Generation 1's early seasons had a lot of fun to them. Season 3 had a different tone but you could feel the stakes were higher. By the time Optimus came back by the Rebirth, they seemed in a rush to the finish.
@RedlineRendezvous I was 12 when the movie hit in 86 and was getting more into BMX and motorcycles and 4 wheelers. After the movie I really kinda lost interest I guess. It was later on when I found out they brought optimus back but by then I was not watching cartoons anymore. Season 1 and 2 and the movie are still my favorite episodes. As I got older and started collecting the toys I watch the G1 episodes very often now

There was a lot on G1 Optimus that was truly special, not just to those who watched the show but the cast as well. Everyone except the corporate high ups but that's to be expected.
I may have never grown up in the 80s (which i wish i did) but after watching the entire g1 series as a young adult, i am 23 now, and i have seen prime and the bay movies, and i can say in full confidence, that g1 is the best series in transformers history. I have already watched the series completely 2 times, and I am still watching it to this day 😂
Also note, after watching g1 I hated the bay movies with every cell in my body.
It is a fun series to watch, but I wouldn't hate the live action movies over it especially since they're not tied in any way.

G1 is what I grew up on. I was there when it first aired and I just seen Transformers One. I have been a fan all of the 40 years. I have enjoyed some of the other series over the years and they are belong to the mythology. But none would be around if it wasn't for G1.

The myth building/lore is something the execs at Hasbro should’ve got on their knees and thanked the folks at Marvel and other writers for. G1 can be a mess, but the mythology was something that mattered to those writers and provided a base to stand for decades.

I would say that Prime is Frank's best voicework as Megatron. But G1 really was the best for Peter. The writing for it showed.
For the time it came out in 1984 I was about 9 years old I had no idea a Japanese line of transforming robots toys like Diaclone existed. To me it was a very brand new franchise just like the GI Joe toy and comic book franchise. So the excitement about this new phenomenon was very real. Even 20/20 did a news segment about the Transformers Japanese robot toy phenomenon. If I could only find that video.

I saw that film as a child when it came out. 80s films were the most entertaining. It is worth noting that a toy line enduring is one thing but a single character and a voice make it a pop culture icon. Peter Cullen.
And unlike most 80s films, this one continued to influence the franchise going forward in different series.
I am so grateful to have been an 11 year old kid in 1984. If Transformers had debuted just a year or two later, I probably would have been too old for them. As is stands right now, I am probably a lot poorer financially than I would have been. But so much richer mentally having been a part of the world of Transformers since day one.
It's a safe bet that most people who became invested enough in the Transformers are "poorer financially". However, it's good you still see the value it brought you. It's been able to create new friendships for many and communities.
i came in late in 91 during my freshmen year in high school, watching reruns on Fox in the morning before school. then of course later began collecting the re-releases in 02. i got most of the ones i always wanted. finally sad the movie on VHS years later as well. now i can't help myself wanting to but a figure after watching an old episode. i have to just go to my collection and be HAPPY with what i have.
I’m 49 now, and it takes me back to those times, my folks got divorced and we was like a father figure to me, joined the marines as a military police officer.
G1 Optimus really embodied a strength in his kindness.
There are so many great episodes in season three of Transformers, especially webworld, five faces of darkness, the burden hardest to bear, the ultimate weapon, chaos, starscreams ghost, ghost in the machine, the quintesson journal, and the big broadcast of 2006.
I agree with all except the last 2. They had potential but parts felt rushed and disjointed, plus no real satisfying conclusion to them either.
The well developed, varied, and consistent characters, masterful voice acting, occasionally superb animation, and most importantly the consistent believable moral standpoint of Optimus Prime.
Yes it was a 22 minute commercial, but it was a real story too. Kids shows today aren’t even stories and commercials. They’re intellectual properties, brands, lifestyles. They have no coherent plot, because they’re designed to be palatable for the Chinese market, and because they have to appeal to Chinese values and not offend She Jinping nothing happens.
Agreed, it is a sad change when entertainment is more "consumable" than actual quality. Toy commercial shows like G1, Beast Wars, and Cybertron can have a lot of great teaching lessons. It's one aspect I believe MLP:FiM became more popular than TF: Prime.
My favorite moment from G1 is from "Attack of the Autobots" when Bumblebee cures Optimus and he gives him a hug. So sweet. ^-^
And just before that, you can see a visual representation of Bumblebee taking Hound's place in the spotlight, like how Hound was supposed to be Spike's main friend instead of Bee.

We love Generation 1 so much because it’s what made the iconic toy line what it is today.

I was 9 when they came out. I had pretty much moved on from toys, Star Wars, Masters of the Universe, I thought of it as kiddie stuff. I wanted video games. Then these hit, and I decided, maybe I should be a kid for a few more years. I didn't know it was going to be 41 more years though.
The characters are what really helped carried it compared to other properties of the times. There were more to get invested in on both sides.
Don’t know if anyone else here can relate, but I’ve watched a TON of transformers content videos over the last few years. And if this wasn’t the best, it’s top 5. It just really resonated with me (that’s until the trap beat started playing towards the end). But as I looked at the rest of the content on the channel, I was surprised to see the nature of it. High speed chases?? I was shocked at the difference of quality. It was like having a nice date with someone, but when you get to know her, you realize all she watches is reality tv & TikTok. Maybe not the best comparison but you get the point.
Things on this channel are going to be much more streamlined and focused going forward.

Who else felt their heart break when Prime died? G1 was way before my time, but still, it hurt to see the posterbot for transformers get killed in such a brutal way.
More heartbreaking how they handled his death scene. It was less a cartoon character and made to look and feel something much more personal.
Will never forget sitting down for the first episode.
Nor leaving the first Bay-formers movie disappointed.
The 1st few G1 episodes are definitely exciting. I still find the 1st Bay movie gets hated a lot for the wrong reasons.

Of course G1 was stand alone episodes. They weren't movies - and even without being movies, they stayed internally consistent for the most part. bay movies completely ignore each other.
Skating transformers was only cool the first time i saw it. When they kept skating i was like... that's freakin corny!

A lot of characters were just tossed aside carelessly, when the other option would be to just focus more on the newer characters and keep the older as the background. It would be interesting to see a smarter brutal Grimlock. Cyberverse take was interesting to say the least. Rodimus got too much hate.

As a TF fan who grew up with the Bayverse but recently learned to appreciate the source material (G1, Marvel comics, Beast Wars, etc.), here are my 5 reasons for why I like G1 more than other continuities:
1. Originality: a bit of a duh moment, but Transformers started with G1, and most to all ideas branch from G1. It’s the original, the OG, which is enough for me to respect it.
2. Character focus: G1 does better what many other continuities miss, and that’s focusing on the characters themselves, with some G1 episodes being entire character-centric episodes. Again, the makes sense, considering that G1 was the first TF show and therefore tried to bring in and introduce new characters.
3. Worldbuilding: G1 took place on Cybertron, Earth, and other worlds like Junkion, Quintessa, Unicron, and a multitude of other worlds in the Japanese G1 sequels, and it took effort to make all of these locations feel real, believable, and alive. On Cybertron, you had the looming threat of Shockwave at every turn. On Earth, you had different nations, fictional and real, join sides with either the Autobots and the Decepticons with their own interests in mind. Unicron was his own planet, and Junkion and Quintessa introduced two new races to the Transformers world.
4. Storytelling: G1 was a character-focused and character-driven show, meaning that actions had consequences and the story constantly grew and expanded. If I were to compare G1 as a show to a video game, it would be like an open world game compared to a linear game with a set story structure, expanding in multiple directions at once instead of heading in one direction. G1 still, to this day, remains one of the most unique Transformers stories to exist, with most other continuities copying G1’s story with a few tweaks and deviations.
5. Humor: G1’s cheesy 80’s humor aged really well, and it’s helped by the fact that G1’s animation fails to stay consistent, with random frames being the subject of subtle humor bits. G1 is proof that a Transformers story can be both funny and dark at times, as long as the shifts in tone are handled properly and make sense given context.

They had a lot of character profiles imported over to work on, so the writers were very busy at it.
Our first Transformers were Ramjet and Shrapnel and then the others came. Yes Prime is the figure! I was 8 years old on 1986.

I always rooted for the decepticons. In season 1 there were about 11 decepticons going against 30 autobots. Then in season 2, they introduced OMEGA SUPREME, totally unfair.
They did have a lot more Autobots in comparison. That's why they used nameless seekers, miscolored Starscreams, and the Insecticon clones to fill out the numbers. Then the Sweeps in S3.
The two leaders who I look up to the most Optimus Prime and Captain Picard.
That's quite interesting the choice of Picard. He doesn't get as much credit as he should.

I felt it did trying to shoehorn in the Quintessans as the creators of the Transformers. Well, that and Megatron surviving an explosion that launched Cybertron hurdling in space.
''GENERATION 1'' will always be the ONLY version, especially ''THE TRANSFORMERS-THE MOVIE'', that tells and shows the dramaticism, suspense and fun of the series. Including the Toy commercials.
I'm willing to argue Beast Wars, bits of the UT, and Animated do this just as well if not better.

Some of the battles were silly when characters just used their hands to start shooting like Ratchet in some of the earlier episodes.

I wouldn't compare it to Star Wars now. If anything, Transformers is doing far better in both the shows and toyline. Distribution could be better.
I will always prefer this animation version over the CG and live action ones it needs to return and what about giving us some new ones such as the transformers in their own exo suits. Whenever I saw a camercial about them I though that we would see it in the show and it would lead to more epsiodes I miss my childhood days.
It would be silly to see Transformers with exo suits. But there was that time Unicron was piloted by Megatron like a mobile suit to fight a planet sized Optimus.
I like G1 Transformers overall. I wasn't born until 1988, so I missed the original series, and Beast Wars were my transformers as a kid. I like the G1 toys a lot, but the cartoon is really hard to watch unless you watched it as a kid in the 80s. The animation errors are out of control in that show. If it doesn't have the most animation errors in an 80s cartoon, then it's definitely up there.
Transformers is notorious for animation errors, even TF: Prime had a few. G1 S3 was full of them because they tried to produce episodes while working on the movie but lacked enough resources. Rushed productions often tends to do this.
Admittedly as much as I love, G1 I wish it would get a remaster just focusing on like 10 autobots and make everyone else back-ground/ basic trooper characters. My choices would be

As much as I love almost all the autobots a lot of them just get completely ignored. I would love to see a G1 remastered in which most of the lesser known bots get the spotlight and more known ones or ones that have been used more often take a back seat. (FYI I don’t think you can do a series without Prime, and even tho Ratchet gets a lot of attention. He greatly improves anything he’s in unlike other autobots [mainly bumblebee] that get used way too often)
It did help season 3 focused on a smaller cast, easier to give everyone a bit more screentime. It worked out especially well in Beast Wars. Cyberverse to me was that more modern retelling of the G1 story with less human characters.
The soundtrack to the 86’ Movie still has a regular spot in my workout music. Every song a banger, but yeah I skip “Death of Optimus Prime” 😢

3:22 *Wrong. Generation 2 had it's memorable elements!* The toys, reissue and new, were Great. Generation 2 was a MUCH WELCOME retread for G1 fans. Being able to FINALLY get my hands on guys like Devastator, that eluded me in the 80's, complete w/spiffy G2 styling. I'd put that experience on-par with the 80's stuff.
As for the G2 color schemes. We make jokes about them today but, at the time it looked really cool and interesting. There's a reason Hasbro loves going back to the well on that. The wacky and creative, 90's Neon colorschemes were really neat.
It could've been great had Hasbro focused on developing a show around it instead of rehashing the G1 series...again. Now it's more or less just better known for it's color palette swaps or giving G1 it's name.
@@RedlineRendezvous G2 was also the first line to experiment with more articulation, in the final year this evolved to the extensive use of ball joints which set the standard for all Transformers toylines afterward.
It would be awesome if they did continue the original Transformers from Rebirth. The second golden age for Cybertron.
I did a comic of the Transformers after Rebirth. It would split and the Transformers would change to form the G2 comic book. Mine would continue from Rebirth and you would get the Power Masters. The Power Masters came from the sun that Optimus Prime sent the Autobot cemetery into. Power Master Optimus Prime was made from the one in the Autobot cemetery. His body was gone, but apart of him was still there.
In a big battle with the Decepticons, the Head Masters, Target Masters, and the Power Masters were badly hurt. Something caused them to change.
The Power Masters, which had holes from the great battle, to be fully repaired. Ironhide had a very damaged face.
Power Master Optimus Prime was a huge change. He was repainted black and became Black Widow. He was still good, but he had a bad temper and a lot of fire power. He otherwise looked like Power Master Optimus Prime.
Interestingly, the Target Masters and Head Masters would be able to combine. With the Target Masters, the guns would merge into a big gun. The heads would merge on the Head Masters. I don't remember what else there was.
Sounds like quite the interesting story.

It would be awesome to continue the US G1 line as it ended. It would be great if it used Season 4 animation.
The most interesting thing about G1 is they were the most mature Transformers for children. There were some comedy parts in it, but it was mostly insightful and inspirational. "Hold on to your dreams. The future is built on dreams."

Some of the fans aer out buying toys to this day. As of this writing I'm eagerly awaiting a masterpiece scale Slingshot to arrive. He's a pretty penny, but so damn cool. The same company has Scrapper is on the way, then an Ultra Magnus. And I'm also waiting for a Groove & Blades by another.
They're all badass.
It differentiates it from every other continuity. If a story is complete, it shouldn't really need more content. Besides, sequels in the Transformers never work out well. Aren't there already 2 MP scaled Ultra Magnus that are already well-made?
The one giant plot hole that I've always hated was that Cybertron was almost out of energy. So the Autobots and Decepticons leave and end up on earth for 4 million years. Cybertron's energy would have been totally drained and everyone who stayed would have been dead because of it.
Well Shockwave DID say it'd be as how Megatron left it, so he found a way.

I prefer the asthetics of G1. They have a retrofuturistic look. That and I've always liked the look of classic cars. Although the cars may have been icons but they aren't classics.
Some here and there are still popular like the Countach or Fairlady Z. Shame the Firebird didn't maintain that popularity unlike the Camero thanks to the live action movies.

And by "not classics," I meant at the time the cartoon was produced. They were iconic but were still very new.

You'd actually be surprised how much the live action movies have in common with the original G1 series. Even down to the point of Bumblebee being Spike's/Sam's wingman.

I love and hate the 1986 movie at the same time. Seeing Optimus Prime killed tore me up. Now that I am older I am MUCH MUCH MUCH more bothered by how they handled the deaths of IronHide, Prowl, Ratchet and Brawn. Made them look like total wimps and incompetent. They deserved far better. I do agree that killing Prime was the wrong decision, but it still could have happened in a way that was traumatic.
The 1986 movie is impressive and still has enjoyable moments, but it did so much damage to the franchise since then. Including Optimus. Or the recent releases of the Autobot shuttle crew with battle damage.
@@RedlineRendezvous They had no problem reformating Megatron into Galvatron. They could have formatted Prime into Ultra Magnus and at least have given other characters a better send off.

I wouldn't call it perfect, but it definitely holds up as one of the most enjoyable Transformers series.

I love the running gag where bee kept trying to flirt with that one lady's car. he thinks she's a beauty. why did they do bee dirty like that? that car is not a transformer.

Killing megatron, starscream, and Optimus prime was the biggest mistake in the transformer film (1986). That is why it bombed in the theater. Kids cried leaving the theater at that time 🤓
