I loved this series as a 2005-born kid, my parents put these classics to me alongside contemporary cartoons, so indeed they have been part of my childhood even though I am several generations late
I’m 53, and even to this day I can watch these OVER AND OVER… The memories from these, and not to mention I began playing the year before these came out🥰🥰🥰
This show is still relevant in Brazil. A few years ago a car company did an advert starring the kids and tiamat. Just now a local fast food chain is running a campaign with vinil figurines being the sold with the happy meals.
I’m 53 also. It was a great show on my Sat morning and I missed it for the longs. I did make a strange notice of that show: at the end of EVERY episode that was on the tube, those were the FASTEST closing credits that I’ve ever seen! STRANGE
As a kid I loved this show. I even picked up a t-shirt the other day. In a "Blink and you miss it moment" these characters where in "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" It was cool to see the gang was still stuck in realm.
@@billcox8870 I found and watched 2 different versions of it: the radio drama and a fan-made episode. Both are good and finally give a sense of closure to the whole thing, even if the former had an open-ending
This was such a great show. It had the right mix of mystery, jokes, adventure and being scary. The City at the Edge of Midnight is an episode that has stayed with me for years.
The character names were based on new classes introduced in a sourcebook called Unearthed Arcana, a collection of supplemental rules, a best of from Dragon Magazine. We played with these rules at the time.
I still watch this entire series from beginning to end at least twice a year. The Dungeon Master probably was thinking hey I gave the kids legendary weapons. But put them up against enemies that even legendary weapons didn't guarantee wins. Just brutal
Could not watch this as a kid if my dad was home. He was caught up in the Satanic Panic at the time, so that says it all, I think he is still there lol. Watched it years later and loved it.
Often overlooked: Kareena has a Globe of the Realm looking very much like Earth, another reference to early D&D which was based on a map of the northeast of America.
54:17 there’s no way this whole episode isn’t a Star Wars reference, cause there’s no telling me that the painter for the backgrounds didn’t just take direct inspiration from Ralph McQuarrie’s Kashyyyk concept art, they painted a damn megalopolis in the trees
This was such a great series next to She Ra Princess of Power . and Kid Video was another memorable animated classic once an interesting show does anyone think they could return here and now ?
@@marvellouscartoons my sister introduced me to Manga it's the Japanies animated movies which I'm truly greatful for because they are so good action and stories one in particular I enjoy is titled Ninja Scroll check it out sometime .
Oh man, I'm so sad they never actually made it back. This series could really use a reboot. Edit: actually, I thought about it a bit, and if you consider the show as the adventures of a group of kids who are PLAYING the game, then it's not actually sad at all. It means they never stopped playing! It's actually pretty wholesome. Still could use a reboot, though!
I watched the first few episodes when it came out, as a teenager who knew the ADnD 1st Ed PHB, MM, and DMG by heart. I was super critical, trying to figure out how the game rules fit. After about 5 episodes I dismissed it because I could not.
It was the highest viewed cartoon for the longest time. Shut down early because of crazy religious women. Basically the social justice warriors of the 80's.
@@ProfessorOfCookies There weren't SJW's in the 80's. There were women with blue hair that used religion as an excuse to impose control on others. The precursor to SJW's. They just changed out the christian religion for whatever you want to call their belief today.
That's a myth. It was cancelled because the ratings were down. The crazy Christian parents groups might have taken credit, but it's all a big lie. (Doesn't The Bible that they love so much have some pretty specific things to say about lying?)

I would LOVE for you to do the series Battle of the Planets; it was my favorite growing up as a kid in the 70's.
It was G Force here in the US, but yeah, +1 for it. I remeber running home from the bus to try to catch as much as I could of it in the late 70s.
@ I remember it as G Force as well and I did the same back in the 70's. Who was your favorite characters? Mine were Keyop, and Tiny.
This was my favourite Saturday morning cartoon after Thundarr The Barbarian was cancelled in 1982.
I've been waiting for years for someone to make a (hopefully) compelling re-imagining of that series.
