  • Perfect weather for tabbing (rucking) greeted me on the Saturday morning, and it held throughout the day. I did a recce of a race I am doing in October 2024, which is run by First In Events. It is an old Paras selection course that goes over Pen y Fan, Fan Fawr, and then has a 6-mile undulating road section to finish.
It was a brutal course, possibly harder than the Fan Dance. I can see why the Parachute regiment stopped doing it a couple of decades ago - rumour has it part of the reason was because it was so damned hard!!
I tabbed it with 30lbs + 2 litres water and food. On race day I will have 35lbs + food and water.
Route ended up being 14.3 miles, with 1,150m climbing. There were boggy sections water crossings and a decent little bit of navigation involved.

Good stuff mate. At 11:00 you're right, there is a small track that cuts through the trees in the car park, that takes you to the stile and to where the track goes uphill to Fan Fawr. 👍

I'm looking forward to this 😀 Thanks for the recce. Good grip needed up to Fan Fawr if it's boggy 🙈👍

@@jimbrace5102 it's a cracking route! Yep, both along the lower track to car park, and on the descent off Fan Fawr are boggy in places.
