my thoughts exactly it would also improve the ride quality greatly and big rims like that in general on any vehicle I just don’t like I prefer big tires but if the stock rims and tires give the best ride quality I’ll leave those on
Hey just fyi, glow plug relay does run for 2 minutes. Wait to start light doesn’t mean the plugs have went off. Really makes a difference if you let it run for 2 minutes instead of 30 sec. Of course glow plugs make a world of difference.
I attached a little blue LED light with my A-pillar gauge that lights up with the GPR. They do run for up to 2 minutes and when warm even if the wait to start light is on briefly the GPR will not activate
That brings back bad memories from the 90s, maintaining a fleet of trucks and vans with those cornbinder engines, 6.9s 7.3s, I don't understand the nostalgia around them.
Doesnt help he has no clue how to start the moment it fires he lets go. Hell my old dodge the Glow plugs didn't work right and got it started after 8 cycles and not letting go of the starter. Listen to the video the moment it fires he lets go. Not a hater just don't know what the hell your doing
@@shawnpettigrew7709 Well it’s not good to just leave the starter cranking until it fires. 1. Easiest way to drain the battery. 2. If the engine starts to fire and you keep cranking it, there is a risk of you shearing the gears off of your starter. 3. Keeping the starter pegged for like 30 seconds will burn the starter right out in minutes, stupid idea.
Sitting here in Alaska and feeling really good about spending big money on the motor work. I’m at 300k miles and start in -20 not being plugged in. My last 7.3 tho was a different story needed ether and jumper cables when it was cold
Most of the people made a comment on some important things. Like not stopping when it starts to crank, letting the glow plugs cycle for 2 minutes and also glow plugs in general. But please, don’t use starter fluid anymore on a diesel. A rag with a little bit of gasoline is all you need. Way safer on the motor.
Loved watching your cold start, I have a 1994 f350 crew cab with 120 K miles and I have similar issues staring up in all kinds of weather. I live the lift on your truck and want to do the same to mine, how did you lift it and how many inches? Thanks and look forward to more videos.
Ya you need glow plugs and glow plugs are on for 2 min cycling the key doesn't help it and keep cranking once it pops off once don't stop. Never used Cosby sauce on mine, it'll start -20 not plugged in.
I turn the key then get back out handle the windows maybe check the oil get some eyes under the hood see I still got 4 wheels then come back and try cranking
Hey, If you see this message and still have the truck, could you measure the total cab height for me, im curious how tall they are compared to more modern trucks
If these trucks do not fire right up in the winter your either not letting the key on for 2 minutes after the wait to start light goes off , or your glow plug relay I shot or you have weak batteries . Cycling the key is absolutely useless and is not how the glow plug system works . Mines 350k miles , never ever doesn't start ..below freezing and all , fires right up . Do not cycle the key , it's not how it works
I’m sure I’m going to be sounding ignorant here. But even in 5° weather it takes me four or five cycles to start up my naturally aspirated 6.2 diesel. The 7.3 is awesome from what I’ve heard, having never owned one, but there’s probably something you need to change with the truck if it’s having such a hard time starting. Obviously glow plugs, and the relay for the 73 for starters, but then check out fuel injectors and shit
It's more related to the injection style of these 7.3 engines because the pop from oil pressure and in the cold oil is really thick and doesn't move easy
You need new glow plugs friend. I live in northern Idaho and even in single digit temps my 7.3 has never struggled this much. And I don’t ever plug mine in cause I’m on solar power so it’s a no go for me.
Enjoyed your video. I have a 1994 f-350 and would like to lift it just like yours. How many inches did you lift it, what did you do to lift it, and what are your wheel and tire specs? Thanks.
Awesome info! What tire set up is best for cold starts? Do rims help - according to your experience? Thank you for the time and effort to produce this video!
My 400k mile truck starts turn key at 0 and below to my knowledge. Maybe like, change your glow plug relay lmao. They aren’t that fussy in the cold when the glows actually glow.
I'd press gas lol it works on my 1997 f250 when in mid 30s cold in texas barley get like thst it 97 thre dore truck I prefer press gas hasn't messed up for me idk
I am thinking $$$ should have been spent FIRST on NEW glow plugs, and probably injector cleaning (at minimum), plus verifying glow plugs actually work. Block heater being plugged in helps, but 23 degrees Fahrenheit is not really that cold!
Funny. My 24v 5.9 2s gen cummins starts up 1-2 starts even when its single digits no Bs. It aint got no glo plugs. I also dont plug anything in either. I let it sit for a 1 min then start. 99% of the time the first start starts it
Cycling the glow plugs like that is not productive. Watch the volt guage and then you will know when the glow plugs turn off. Cold start, they are on for about 2 minutes even though the "wait to start" light goes off
Everyone saying starting fluid "fries" a 7.3 has no idea what they're talking about. Heavy equipment has starting fluid aids that help in cold weather. Some are used daily and have thousands and thousands of hours on them. The reason it will cause damage is because the glowplugs are activated, or they use too much. Let the glowplugs turn off completely and then spray for 1 second that's all you need. Been using it for years on stuff never had an issue don't burn oil.
Cant believe I just watched 10 minutes of a old truck not starting. But totally loved it! Time well spent.
My only one top of the line obs truck big fan I’m still searching for a truck
Thank you for saving me the 10 mins lol
It starts at the end wydm😊
Need more tire and less wheel then she will start
my thoughts exactly it would also improve the ride quality greatly and big rims like that in general on any vehicle I just don’t like I prefer big tires but if the stock rims and tires give the best ride quality I’ll leave those on
Finally someone with some common sense
@@crankbaitincowboy9053it’s a damn miracle
How many starters do you get to the gallon?

Correct!
Thank you for that information I’ll try that this winter
Yes that is painful to watch knowing this.
Yup just listen for the click
I attached a little blue LED light with my A-pillar gauge that lights up with the GPR. They do run for up to 2 minutes and when warm even if the wait to start light is on briefly the GPR will not activate
My 2002 7.3 fired right up in 23° the other day with 162,xxx miles on stock everything. Just smoked like a freight train lol.
I JUST PICKUP A 02 F250 7.3 IM GOING TO MAKE SOME VIDEOS ON IT SOON
My 01 f350 7.3 she’s grumpy when she’s not plugged in
listen to that growl, I have a 2001 F-350 7.3, I love it
You have to wake up, one hour earlyer before work to start that shit 🤣🤣🤣
Lmao I have one …everyday isn’t the same though
Just needs new glow plugs
Here comes the ether bunny.
Maybe it’s just me, but I like some good cranking during a cold start! Love listening to the starter!
IM GOING TO MAKE MORE OF THE COLD START VIDEOS. CHECK OUT IN MY PLAYLIST UNDER COLD START I HAVE OTHER TYPES OF VEHICLES
@@adventureswithvehicles7335 THANKS THAT SOUNDS GOOD THANKS FOR THE GREAT REPLY COOL
That brings back bad memories from the 90s, maintaining a fleet of trucks and vans with those cornbinder engines, 6.9s 7.3s, I don't understand the nostalgia around them.
Everytime it was trying to start, you'd cut it off 😂
Man spin that thing over. 7.3 starters are indestructible
I destroyed 1 after cranking it all winter lol
This was how mine started, before I replaced the glow plugs. Now she fires right off. Might want to replace them.
THANKS

@@fcdrummer1806yup I did this before back in my ding dong days with my 77 F100. Broke a brand new starter. Luckily it was covered under warranty.
you should look into a high output starter, helped a lot w my 7.3 in the cold
Pretty truck, the fluid is gonna kill it though
Sitting here in Alaska and feeling really good about spending big money on the motor work. I’m at 300k miles and start in -20 not being plugged in. My last 7.3 tho was a different story needed ether and jumper cables when it was cold
What motor did you make to help it start better in the cold?
Bro casually has 2 skylines in the drive lol

Its also straight axel swapped
Gotta wait for heat radiation from those glow plugs. Switch 'em on and go for a coffee. Then come back and fire the cylinders.
Ya you need glow plugs and glow plugs are on for 2 min cycling the key doesn't help it and keep cranking once it pops off once don't stop. Never used Cosby sauce on mine, it'll start -20 not plugged in.
Why do you stop cranking as soon as it starts to fire, that’s your problem.
Ya keep the ignition switch pinned until there’s fire
Building oil pressure before starting it's how I do my 7.3 works well short crank to build oil pressure then long cranking
Was wondering the same thing…every damn time!
What a hater 😂
Bougie heater 🤔
I turn the key then get back out handle the windows maybe check the oil get some eyes under the hood see I still got 4 wheels then come back and try cranking
sweet rig !!!! hope the night is going good .

Dang that was rough to see at only low 20’s!! I wonder how she’d do at -50 where I’m at here in Alaska? 🧐
I’m sure I’m going to be sounding ignorant here.

How many miles you have in that truck?
145000
@ nice
I have the same problem it needs that snort snort spray
F the block heater dude. That thing needs glow plugs. 20 degrees isn’t even that cold
Beautiful truck
Mine starts right up until it’s below negative 10 then she gotta be plugged in and she still grumpy then
8:04 just move it here if you wanna check him on his way to start the car

Might be due for a glow plug relay honestly. Jump the relay and see if it starts better
Awesome info! What tire set up is best for cold starts?

A bottle of blinker fluid in fuel tank would help it start faster...🤣😂🤣😂😁
You gotta hold the key and crank for a little not 2 seconds and than shut off it’ll never start that way
Needs glow plugs or somthing man mine starts right up at -30*c not plugged in ever
Try running the truck the day before and put a blanket over the engine.
Deff something wrong with glow plugs or relay. Mine has sat in 0 degree weather for days and never struggled this hard
Fuel bowel heater works wonders

12v Cummins no problem 😉
I'd press gas lol it works on my 1997 f250 when in mid 30s cold in texas barley get like thst it 97 thre dore truck I prefer press gas hasn't messed up for me idk
It's gas truck
Look into diesel heaters, about 1500$ Canadian but they keep your engine heating like a sunofabitc
Plus no cords
Stop cycling that key so much. Those glow plugs will run for up to two minutes.
Mine would've had smoke the first crank.
blew an O at 7:25

you need to treat that old girl better. i have a 96 with 200k and will start in ten degree weather without block heater
You NEED the down pipe. It is crazy better than without it. I have one just like it.
the r32s tho
Do you wanna sell this truck? I don't like that the extended cab part don't open. That was a poor design by ford
Who spends all that money and doesn’t swap out that crazy pinched cobra down pipe?
Someone who puts their money on stupid wheels and tires
Warm then globe plug a million an a half more times 😂. I only joke because I daily a 1996 7.3l in Canada, she don't even tic in -35
new glow plugs.
NEW GLOWPLUGS !
Somebody was late for work lol
You need some glow plugs lol
my 84 statred in below 0 in chicago always
You have skylines outside in the snow? Geez
Those 7.3’s seem to have a taste for Cosby in a can for some reason.
both of my 7.3s love the cosby sauce
Maybe just one more Glow plug cycle woulda done it lol
Looks like a pride truck starts like ones to
I have a 99 love it

what a piece

You need maintenance on that truck... it should not take that long to start!
My God ive had a 700.000 mile Detroit 60 start better in minus 40 cold not plugged in. Not happy but she clicked off.
Change your glow plugs. This is completely waste of time.
looks like you need new sparkplugs
Bump the timing back 1°
THAT ISNT A COLD START, THAT IS “WET” START
20 degrees isn’t cold bro. Change ur glow plugs
Put some glow plugs in her. Only sounds like maybe 2 are working correctly. "Giggle juice" fries a 7.3.
Hillbilly nitrous starting fluid
Glow plug relay, they fail so often, I’m on my 2nd this year
I feel kind of dumb lol but giggle juice I'm guessing is starter fluid??

Go get new glowplugs then it starts right away..
thats not cold start
This is utter failure. Put new plugs in it. It's not hard to do and they aren't expensive.
Lol
Get that restrictive cobra downpipe outta there .
