- Hofburg Palace is the official residence and workplace of the President of Austria and it features several museums and royal apartments. It's history dates back to the 13th century when it was an imperial palace. It was the winter residence of the monarchs of the Hapsburg Dynasty. It's beautiful front exterior features several statues, including statues of Hercules. Inside we took a tour of the Imperial Treasury and saw some amazing jewels and artifacts, including Imperial crowns, coronation robes, and ceremonial swords. The southwest portion of the palace is called the New Castle (Neue Burg) and this is where Adolph Hitler gave a speech from the balcony, annexing Austria. If you visit Vienna, Hofburg Palace and it's Imperial Treasury should be high on your list of things to see.
