There's hardly any strategy involved. Success doesn't depend on skill but mostly on brute force and stamina. Even with the best technique you can't get around that If you practice it yourself it sure looks interesting but for an objective viewer any two rowing matches look the same
I have no doubt rowing is physically very demanding, but I think its no more interesting than running. It's the same repetitive motion over and over again that requires no talent, just strength
The rower around 1:00 has pretty poor bladework. His catch is really not pretty to look at, with the common flaw of not raising his hands at the catch and at the right time. If you look at how he draws the blade through the stroke, because of this poor catch, the movement is not horizontal and I haven't even started talking about his finishing into his lap... Then again he could probably shit on me in a 2k.
