- This is the Ford Puma Hybrid Rally1; not to be confused with the regular road-going hatchback with a paltry 155bhp. But you wouldn't, would you, because this one has been specially built by legendary British rally engineers M-Sport to compete in the World Rally Championship’s new era of hybrid racing. With its 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine boosted with a battery-powered electric motor, the Puma Hybrid Rally1 produces north of 500bhp. That means 0-60mph in the low 3s on pretty much any surface, as Chris Harris will now demonstrate on some snow.

Unfortunately they finished dead last in the 2022 season, with their cars breaking down regularly. I hope they do better this season, which starts this coming weekend.

@@xploration1437 I like both too but rallying has the beauty the spectacle and sound and f1 only makes good tv because it’s single venue and it’s got mega drama on and off track. Rallying is a proper down to earth motorsport.

Yeah, they are so stupid in Norway when they are buying mostly battery cars. In 2021, about 86 percent of all cars sold in Norway were electric cars, including battery-electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). How they don't understand that those batteries are not working in sub-zero temperatures?

Obviously it is not mentioned that the Rally 1 car has nearly nothing in common with the ST except for the looks. It's a completely different, purpose-built rally car that has the looks of a Puma to boost Puma sales. Not that I don't love it.

Brabus isn't a car factory but a tuning stall for the Mercedes-benz. They represent themselves as they're individual but it's not. Just like all the AMG cars. They're Mercedes-benz.
Ford only needs a top tier driver that can compete for a full season. Not just Loeb that fills in here and there and spanks the regular drivers.

@@hydralance8837 If M-Sport hasn't fallen behind because of their budget I think its going to be the most interesting championship in years. Me being Estonian I obviously cheer for Ott. But for me 2018 was the most awesome year in recent history not 2019 when Ott won.

Fun fact, the Rally1 is actually a bit slower compared to its WRC+ predecessor (at least in its current form in the regulation).
WRC+ cars (2017-2021 spec) are THE fastest rally cars you will ever see. Here's hoping Rally1 can soon go even faster in the future.
@@AbrahamArthemius Mostly true but with a caviat. Some stages the new ones are faster than the old one, monaco for example where aero is less effective. The problem the old one had was a lot of stages had to be altered due to the downforce making the cars too quick. Chickanes, detours, shortenings etc so now they have it easier to keep down the average stage speed without such measures. But It would be amazing to see the new rally 1 cars with the old aero packages, that would be a monster, maybe slap on the early 2000s active diffs and tricks
But regardless I think they nailed the regulation of rally 1. Same capable, very balanced engines, just slap a standard Hybrid unit on the propshaft just adding horsepower, simplify car construction and remove expensive aero development, antilagg systems, adjustable centerdiff etc.
A monster car and season. Shame I just couln't keep up with all the rally content when my country broadcast changed from sunday 1h summary to mostly live (6-7 hours). Just got a bit to high of a commitment last year. Going to try to keep up with this season.
The 2023 PUMA ST should've had 4WD....come on Ford, catch up with the GR YARIS!!
