    I did a junkyard find camper shell for my pickup truck a year ago with Raptor liner. Still looks like new. I couldn’t be happier and I was surprised at how easy it was to ‘paint’. I’m getting ready to Raptor my old Harley in gunmetal gray soon.

    If you get cracks or bubbles in your raptor liner you can warm the area up with a heat gun to make it pliable then use a razor to open it up or peel it back. Then apply some E6000 glue under the liner, warm the liner back up with a heat gun and then press it back down to the surface and hold it down till it cools or put masking tape over it and let it cure over night. I've repaired a couple air bubbles and cracks on my raptor lined isuzu roof that way, been about 1.5 years and still holding and can't tell where the repair is. E6000 comes in clear or black.

    The years spent in a dealer has taken me away from products in the aftermarket. So, I am doing my research on the products being used. I really appreciate you explaining and showing the work involved in this process. It really look good and thanks for providing info to follow up on your experience. Nothing man-made is perfect but the Upol Raptor almost holds up like an epoxy type product.
    Mine is a daily driver category, but design by me for me. I am retired and have a bad elbow that can’t be fixed other than replacement. The choices are not acceptable. Include the July 2020 lumbar fusions and I am in the FUBAR file. Yet now retired I am pressing ahead come hell or high water. I like the sense of accomplishment and get one thing done each day. At 6’3” tall, bending to focus and fix, repair or create is difficult. But that’s another story.
    Many say the surface must be ground with 36 grit. I have an oil based wax & grease remover, yet nobody tells you about water based product as the use it first. The addition of reducer allows one to control the texture and you have shown that. As an ASE Master Tech, I have painted 6-7 cars including a truck, but this would work good on the bottom of a cab, then perhaps a rock-chip-guard on the body line at the rocker panel line, then painted & cleared with a high performance product. I grew up on gravel/dirt county roads where road graders maintain the roads. Although, I don’t have that near me but on a trip to visit friend I grew up with, many since first grade, they are in the country. Can you tell me about your grit, degreaser? Thanks for the one year + follow up. Most never show their work over time! Thanks. NIASE certified tech since 1978-Retired Project; 1967 C10, 03 Tahoe engine.

      If I remember we sanded with 220 grit. Scotchbrited hard to get areas. But first cleaned and degreased, pressure washed etc. Prep is the key to all paint work. Spraying the paint is the easy part!

    Awesome Jeep and work. I ended up using mostly POR-15 products with some Raptor Liner (spray cans) on certain parts. I dont really have access to a spray booth or equipment so I need something I can apply easily. With the POR-15 i can use brushes and apply it in smaller batches. I focused more on heavy rust removal and prevention as its a Michigan Jeep. I even painted inside the frame. I am using the POR-15 bedliner as a final coating, its does have rubber but it is UV safe. I can easily apply it with a small 1" brush. When ever i need to touch up I just simply sand the area, wipe down with Mineral Spirit's, and then touch up with a brush. I wanted easier touch ups, and a low VOC product that I can apply with minimal gear. I am coating the entire jeep in it. On the outer surfaces I am using a 3 layer system, por-15, por topcoat (hard protective coat), and then the bed-liner.
    I have 2 Jeeps, a 1996 XJ, and a 2001 XJ. I am doing the 1996 first to test the system, and the long term results.

    • @SpiralDesignWorks
      @SpiralDesignWorks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NO mine is straight raptor liner. You can clear coat it after applying the raptor for extra smoothness and extra UV protection. I have noticed that mine is bumpy but smooth if that makes sense. I have seen other brand liners that are very gritty looking and they have reported it is very hard to wash and clean.

    • @immelting9834
      @immelting9834 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SpiralDesignWorks so theoretically , one could spray the raptor liner more fine ; then lay down say.... 4-5 coats of clear ( to " level out" the surface) , wet sand , then polish for a flawless finish ? Now that would be interesting indeed. The raptor has a satin looking appearance . Adding a really nice clear and fully detailed out, would leave a unique result. What say you ?

      yeah there was something about the video clips from the old video it did not like. I had to go back and quickly re-edit using the raw files. Then I thought I could slice it in using the youtube editor but had to delete and re-upload the complete new one. Oh well.
