- Car Builders applies U-Pol Raptor liner and Bullyliner to its off road racer and then put them through a series of tests. Which is the best liner for you?
If you would like to see the preparation process for these liners, as well as the application with tips and advice, then see our full length video via our channel or there is a link at the end of this video.
Why anyone would dislike this video is beyond me. Honestly the best review I’ve found. Product applied, tested and explained. Awesome video!
Thank you J-Ram. Appreciate the positive feedback 🤙
😀😀😀 Wow 😀😀😀
I used the Bully today in a rusted car boot/truck application. Used wire brush to take most back to bare metal then masked up and etch primed yesterday. Went out there today, hit it with scitch-brite pad, cleaned it up ready for spraying. Its 26'C and 69% humidity. I poured the Bully into an electric Wagner pump, first with a waterbase valve but it sprayed too fine a mist, then swapped it out for an oil base valve. The stuff comes off the gun well with good coverage. Ive used about 600ml from the 1 litre tin. Although the paint colour states Midnight on the can, it actually sprays out a greyish blue colour which darkens as its drying. It will go a darker grey, then gunmetal, then charcoal black in an hour. The most impressive thing about it was how easy it was to clean up afterwards. I poured the excess paint back in the tin, filled the paint reservoir with water and sprayed it through until the jetstream was clear but shooting out the fine granules. Then I emptied the water and refilled with fresh water again. The clean water then pushed out the last of the granules sand my reservoir was already clean! Pulled apart the gun and all the components washed easily in an icecream container of water. It is SO EASY and quick to clean up afterwards from as the paint easily washes off with water. I give it a thumbs up. Will update on the finish in a few hours....
Great work 😎👍
Best raptor review on TH-cam. Finally someone answered the questions I have.
Thank you for the positive feedback 😎

When I was a kid I had this electric track car system that came with two little trucks and two handheld remotes. A fun game to see how fast you could get them to run around the track before/without flying off across the room. As I recall, the little RC trucks looked EXACTLY like your truck. I think it they even said "Bandit" on them. I'm in my 30s now and I haven't seen any of those RC cars around since that era, but I'm pretty sure they're still boxed up in my parents garage. Now I want to go dig them out and see if they're still there just to see if my memory is serving me correctly or making correlations that don't exist. I came for the Raptor Liner info, but I stayed and subscribed for the badass truck.
You are making fine, no nonsense video's with lots of info!!! Keep on trucking!
Thank you for your positive feedback 😎👍 👍
I don’t know crap from crisco about applying a liner to a vehicle. But this review was more than informative with tips and tricks. I haVe a lot More confidence in the project I want to pursue regarding my Jeep in the up coming future. Excellent review many questions were answered keep up the good work mates!
😆👍Thank you for the feedback Denis! Glad it was helpful. Good luck with your upcoming project.
Outstanding review! Thank you for your time, expense, and experience!
Thank you Biff 👍
Great in-depth review and testing, and an extra thank you for answering all the pertinent questions before anyone had to ask them in the comments. I can now make a much better-informed choice about which to use on my 90 Toyota Pickup resurrection project. 👍🏻
Thank you for the positive feedback Chad. Good luck with the project 😎👍
Great review. I am in process of painting my truck with tinted Olive Green Raptor. Both products seem to be great.
Killer comparison video mate!
Thanks mate 😎👍
Thanks you for a no bullshit vid, I had questions all the way through but you answered them all the more I watched 👍🏽
Thank you for the positive feedback. Good luck with your project 👍
Very good in depth review of the liners and information. Keep up the great work and have fun!
Thank you Michael 👍👍
Glad to see the comparison!! Thinking of using both in conjunction or replacing Raptor with Herc. Tough base layer of Raptor, then the softness of the Bully would work well at least in my mind.
That is Awesome...A full size Baja Bandit! Nice job guys
😆😎👍
Thanks for the video. It was very interestng. I've been looking at doing my van life van with the Raptor. I just priced the bullyliner and can get 8 cans of the Raptor for for a few bucks more then 4 cans of the bullyliner. Plus, you can tint the Raptor whatever color you like and paint your coats and it's done. With bullyliner, you paint your coats on then you still have to come back a spray your color on, which is a lot more work. Plus, the bullyliner is very limit in the color choices. The only thing I do like is that it says you can use a rollor and or brush to apply it. Verese with the Raptor, you have to mix different things with it, etc...to be able to roller it on, and it still does not go on the easiest from what I've seen. I'd love to see you do a project and roller and brush it on. Thanks again.
Thank you CowboyDav. A brush on video is coming up 👍
@@carbuilders1 Great...I'll be keeping an eye out for it.
good comparison, good review, real life testing and uncut results. thank you.
I've always been impressed with the raptor finish. I use it to coat smaller items- the only thing is the coarse texture you get from applying a higher build doesn't look as good on smaller objects, yet it is tougher.
The lower build I use is more satin-matte.. looks really even and catches the light really nicely.
This is how you do a review. Well done sir!
Go raptor guys won’t disappoint trust me got a paint shop to do it for me and even they where impressed sprayed a Tacoma prerunner and they used 5 out of six bottles came out phenomenal
👍
I used bully on my van with a roller and it turned out great especially at front of van, no more stone chips
Hey Guys, Peter from South Africa. We manufacture Liquid Rubber Coatings and also just launched our water based Rubber Liner been great playing with different applications. Also chose to go the water based as is so easy to touch up if needed
What I learned from this is that the bully liner is good for what it's supposed to do and that the raptor is better for body
Is the bully liner ok for interior of a jeep?
Great review would love to see more how these hold up as underbody protection against rust!!
Thank you Drunk Tortila. A future video for us 👍Obviously the preparation and neutralising any sign of rust before applying these paints is the crucial factor.
@@carbuilders1 ofcourse. I was planning on sandblasting preping the metal with accetone and using a 2 part epoxy primer. Followed by 2 coats raptor liner and waxoyl for the inner chassis but in the UK this might not be that durable with our weather so looking for some alternatives apart from por 15 which I am not a fan
Mate, what a great comparison video! You guys went above and beyond!
Much appreciated Austin! Hope you got some good info out of it👍
5:36 "So you can see here, this is where we remodeled the front end of the truck into a Subaru!" I'm DYING LMAO here!!!
It took me a few seconds trying to understand his accent but I was ROFL🤣🤣
...was that a 'good' or 'bad' remodel? I guess he's referring to the Brat's vertical front.
I was interested in spraying the inside of my truck, just found out raptor lining is toxic when dry can make you drowsy etc. Thanks for the strength test.
Wow....i loved the tyco bandit design!!!
Had many when i was young
😆we loved ours too so thought it was a good theme to run with 🤙
Raptor looks way better! Thanks for the review
Thanks Asparoth 👍
Great reviews of both products. I my self will stick to the Raptor product. The slight satin finish looks way better and it tells me it will probably protect more from UV rays.
Thank you Gustavo 👍
The claw hammer took quite a bit of the Bully off of the panel. And there was no comment on the damage done by the heavy hammer drop on the Bully. It seems to me that the review was slightly slanted to the Bully.
Go to CZone Media on YT , his Raptor partially covered Dodge Ram was peeling like crazy 2 years later.
@@deanfirnatine7814 then he didn't prep right cause my jeep is 5 years in and looks great
@@deanfirnatine7814 and you should use a couple coats
100%
Not too shabby of a review! It seems the products are suited to different tasks. Raptor is a better choice for full body, but the bully liner might be better for bumpers and beds where slipping is a problem
Thanks Steve 😎👍
Yes but he mentioned putting a gritty additive in the Raptor bottle which would create a no-slip coat.
Another thing though the bully can get touched up whenever and the bumps and the bed and all that take more damage than the body normally
Couldn’t get any better thanks mate.
Thanks mate. Appreciate it 👍
I had tyco bandit when I was a kid. Was the first Rc car I got that could turn both ways without reversing :p
😆so good!
Very good review on both products! Thanks for taking the time to do it. I think the Bully would suit my needs best, hope I can get it in the USA. ~Pat
Thanks for the feedback Pat 👍
Good honest report man I’m going with raptor
Thank you Tim. Good luck with the install 👍
I went with raptor in light gray and black and very pleased with the results after a couple years. Plan on doing my cab this April. BUT. I am not keen on their primer
Great video bro. I was set on the raptor after the hammer claw test.
Thanks. Good luck with project 🤙
The only problem with the claw test was the difference in pressure one hand was use for raptor , two hands for bully
thank you ,, I was looking for a demo and I found it, il go buy some bully now for the little Suzuki sierra beast lol
Great! Love to see some pics once painted 👍
Hey Scott how did it hold up mate
Awesome. This review answered my question. Raptor liner it is!
👍 Good luck with the project
Thank you for a very comprehensive video.
Thank you designerx2006 👍
Raptor all the way I have it on my Dodge Ram 2500 and it’s perfect not a single problem bully gets to rubbery during the summer in hot months
Really? I was kind of leaning towards the Bully. I also want to coat my whole Dodge Ram 2500. Was thinking a lighter gray to closer match the existing color. Just want to know about the long term update and UV resistance. I have another vehicle that I bought with raptor on it and is is shrinking, cracking and coming off in areas.
I love te test part - with throwing tools..thisis best i have seen
Thanks mate. Appreciate the positive feedback 👍
@@carbuilders1 No problem, Like i said, one of the best video of testing .... ;)
Just continue of doing precise and practical videos.. ;)
@@carbuilders1 did you try - clean all vehicle from this liners ? it must be so hard :D
Looks like a win for Raptor to me.
Depends. Looks like two excellent products with slightly different strengths and weaknesses. For amateur use Raptor is much more expensive to use, because it is solvent based vs water based. Much more expensive to clean guns, etc after each use, difficulty sanding for touch ups, need for breathing apparatus if using in confined spaces. Pretty easy to paint a clear gloss or satin finish over the Bully.
For a new suv could the underbody be sprayed with the bully liner in the wheel wells and under body to reduce road noise.
I used the Raptor bed liner and it was real easy to apply. But, I do suggest a second coat.
Hi Ronald. Yes, you will need two coats 👍
3 coats and a 4th to just dust everything.
I JUST found Bully at Tractor Supply's website! Don't know how long they have been selling it. Its my first wide search to price bed liners for the TJ tub. Hell maybe the whole thing. Raptor outside and Bully inside lol
How well do you think it would hide light to medium hail damage.
It looks like it did well on your panel welds, but I'm just curious about what you think since you have applied it and know how it goes on.
Thanks
Wow that brought back memories my first remote control car. Tyco Bandit. 😁😁
Haha 👍
Anyone else notice that this guy ends nearly every sentence with a quick vocal ascending tone of pitch. Once you hear it, you’ll start to listen more intently to see IF his pitch will raise, stay level or have a downward pitch. Entertaining even if you don’t pay attention to the context of the tutorial/review.
I have used a 3m product on the interior of a few vehicles with good results for acoustic application, but never tried it on exterior. When I got my rust free montero, I considered getting a professional coating on the wheel wells and rockers. They wanted an arm and a leg. I mean more than I paid for the vehicle. I will look into these when I get around to doing some exterior coating next time.
Good luck 👍
Bloody excellent video!!
Thanks mate 👍
@@carbuilders1 i bought 4L of Bullyliner off you. I plan to permanently remove the carpet and paint the entire floor of my Pajero. I want it thick, like Linex, 2 to 3mm, for sound insulation. Should i spray or roll it? Will i have enough?
Great video...certainly appreciate it. what would be better for Arizona ??? Some products don't do well on the heat. thanks for your response
This is from Australia, it'll be fine
Hey, I've noticed you don't stock Bully Liner anymore? Do you still support the product?
Question, will the Bully Liner alway have that texture or is it possible to have a "flatter" or less gritty texture?
Loved the demo, seemed fair and unbiased since you sell both.....
Thank you Zuktrails. It can't be made smooth. You can spray at a higher PSI so the texture is finer rather than lower PSI will be broader, lumpy texture 👍
Also pushed harder on the bully side with the hammer scrap test than the raptor. Used two arms instead of one hand. Not a truly valid test but still pretty good. I've already been using raptor liner on my trucks bumpers and rockers and it's holding up well. Some rock chips after 8 years but it's time to add another few liters and make it even thicker
Thank you Tony. Yes, difficult to road test exactly the same but tried our best 👍
@@carbuilders1 still a great product test and I thank you and the team for taking the time to do this video. proved my point and thoughts that Raptor liner is still worlds better. I will be doing my truck again this weekend on the side rockers and rear bumper.
Apparently you can put extra thinners in the raptor and it will come up smooth? Would like to see a smooth raptor paint of some sort but the perks of it
Sounds like something we need to test. Thanks Remy 👍
Great review 👍
Wonder how well a clear coat would hold up with the bully (to increase the matte to a satin finish)
So this video is 2 yrs old now, if you still have the truck done up like this, which product has been the most durable? I'm planning to use bed liner pretty extensively in my truck project, been pretty set on the Raptor, but I never heard of the Bully before...I live in the States, so that's probably not surprising...Lol! Anyways, which one has held up better in the long run? The Bully looks like it lost a lot more material from that claw hammer, has it hardened more with age?
Good question. Without sounding too typical, they actually have both stood up well and have been comparable over the journey. Both have retained the qualities from when they were sprayed. A noticeable difference is when cleaning. Raptor is an easier finish to wash whereas Bully is harder to get clean as dirt gets trapped in the texture (which is why we started using a clear coat on top).
I have a difficult question, My truck is painted with Raptor liner, Extremely hard to remove. Can I spray the bully liner on it ? I sprayed kinda thin not heavy so it doesn't have texture but somewhat like coarse sand paper type sprayed on with raptor liner. It was my first attempted, My other sprayed on jobs got way better. I bought 5 bottles to spray my 05 tacoma exterior.
Personally love raptor liner but saw single cans at Walmart today and was gonna try this on some spots when I add my hitch into the vehicle and some undercoating underneath along with some other spots I’ll sand blast with rust coming from a bad paint job.
Awesome video. Thank you.
Thank you Lui HG 👍
So what would you recommend for interior of a 4x4 ? To replace the carpet?
dammmm!!!...that's a great review video thanks...👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks mate. Hope you got a bit out of it 👍
I just wondering if I can put some 3M tape on the RAPTOR paint! It will stick to it?? Need your advice PLZ
Awesome review Mate. I would like to do my whole truck with Raptor liner.
Thank you Werner 😎👍Good luck with the truck project. Love to see some pics.
For those interested you can use degreaser and a big brush to clean the raptor liner. Then afterwards use 303 protectant and it looks bright shiny and brand new!!
I did that on my wrangler hard top and it always looked incredible. You can 303 on everything, it’s like armorall but doesn’t suck and ruin stuff over time. Also I used that parts store bed liner( I think herculiner... it came in a gallon tin with no hardner and you roll it on ) on the interior tub of my Jeep to replace carpet and that stuff basically ruined my Jeep. Sand and mud would adhere to the liner because it was so soft and it was a nightmare. Raptor liner and others that are two part with a hardner work soooo much better.
Bloody brilliant video thanks! Crash testing is really showing commitment to the road test review! 😁 2 questions please - If I just have a combined air regulator/water trap without an additional big dollar water separator in the air line, does the possibility of any water in the air line rule out buying the Raptor off you (and therefore defaulting to the Bully's water based product)?
Second - does either product have better sound deadening properties?
(I've already got your Stage 1 and Stage 2 inside the car, but this Raptor/Bully will be applied somewhere else)
Thanks legends!
I didn’t understand a thing he was saying. Great Video!
🤣👍
You gotta listen with your heart bro

😆😆 Thank you Team Variety iiReaperz 👍
Best review so far..... THX
Thank you Crazy Wombat 👍
Great video, super informative.
Thank you 😎👍
Having just used bully liner myself on a bull bar about 3 weeks ago it's great...until you get a hot day once the steel underneath warms it gets as makes sense "rubbery" and can be picked off or on a 4*4 track as any contact is going to gouge it off, if steel is cold it's rock hard. Think will carry on to use raptor instead
I see they responded to all comments but yours! I thank you I’ll be doing my truck in raptor this summer
Sorry for the slow response on this one guys. We have been making an oven where we are going to put this to the test. We thought we would be well and truly be finished making/testing by now but it keeps getting pushed back with everything else we are trying to do- we will have some testing up in the coming month/s. Rather than the rubber, Bully is an acrylic paint so it will soften when in extreme heats however we have had the Bandit sitting in 40 degree C (105 degree F) days and raced it around in the height of summer high 30degrees, scrapping other cars and it hasn't been an issue. It will be interesting to see how the results come out.
Answered all my questions, awesome video
Thank you Upaginit 101 😎
I saw this video months ago and about to order 8 liters of Upol. I am thinking if it's going to be enough for my flat bed build on my channel. 8x7 feet with 2' of side skirts, aprox 110sf with headache rack.
You're just doing the tray in the dimensions you mentioned? 8L will easily cover it. Send through some pics when your done 🤙Instagram @carbuilders
@@carbuilders1 I'm uploading the build as I go, actually ordering the Raptor now plus some epoxy primer.
That’s innovative..
Push brooming washing a truck 👍🏻
💪😆
Cant you add multiple layers for better protection in the bed?
Sorry big thing you missed and from my experience using the bully liner is on a hot day it actually feels like uncured paint and comes away under a fingernail , cool days it's hard as a rock but a hot day heading to beach and needing to get off the track into the scrub to pass and I can see it being gouged off, I used it on bar work and stopped once I spotted this issue, talking months after applied and like I said rock hard on a cool or mild day but leave it out in the sun 35+ and it's like uncured paint (not as bad but that effect), I imagine that's the effect of having the rubber compound in it
Hi Daniel. Interesting. We have had it through 40degree days and haven't found this. We are going to add it as another thing to road test this summer.
It's never come off on the van, but one thing I noticed after painting it on, it does take about 3 or 4 days to cure properly. I have run stiff brooms over it Used high pressure with turbo head and doesn't effect it.
I’m wanting to paint my Nissan hardbody about the size of your Toyota. I want it to last awhile but I’m not very good with tinting and such. Actually I’ve never done it at all. I want to go with raptor liner but when you said the satin is kind of spotty? If you were going to paint your whole truck with one which would you choose? I think I’m leaning towards raptor liner. Good choice? It gets hot in Montana so I don’t want the rubbery feel that billy gets.
Both are a hard finish. Although Bully has a rubber base, the 'hardness' of the products feels similar. Really the choose comes down to factors discussed in the video. If you want a glossy finish that is easier to clean, Raptor is the paint for you.
Notice how he didn’t do the rope burn test on the bully liner at all. On another not I’m probably just nit picking but he picked, up the saw blade a second time and start scraping that around the raptor liner, which is a good test but he didn’t do it to the bully liner either. I recon if your going test both products keep the test the same and equal all the way through.
Hi Bear Got Style. Yes, sorry for the inconsistence with this..filming fatigue 🤦♂️We found the Bully responded the same with the rope- it burned through both paints. Both stood up similarly to scraping of tools.
Sorry I didn’t want come off as a smart allic, but I would have like to see the rope, burn test and the blade test done the same way on the bully liner. As it is a rubber base and not plastic polymer base as the raptor liner. I’m not favouring the raptor liner I just wanted, to know the burn through / sand paper like abbration, speed rate down to the metal as it is to different, material types as I want to do my whole vehicle in a reliable product.
Yeah, and judging by the hammer test, bully might be slightly less durable than the raptor, but also makes it more forgiving with flex
Hi guys great video, was wondering if u can use normal colour paint onto of the raptor 2k?
Yes, you can paint over the Raptor however you are best to tint the Raptor to the desired colour 👍
Thanks for reply, would u be able to put 9n quad bike plastic? Think it would look great on my quad aswell lol
Yes, you will need to use the adhesive promoter (we sell it too) as if it was a bumper bar. The key is getting the solvent-based adhesive promoter to stick then applying a primer before applying the Raptor 👌
Raptor has a tintable variant.
Excellent review, how much litres to paint a dual cab ute like a triton for example?
Thank you 👍 To be safe, 8L will cover the whole exterior (another 2L for underbody)
@@carbuilders1 Would that be for 2 coats?
would you use these type products on internal floor pan, firewall etc. and then apply sound deadener sheets? would the sound deadener adhere?
Hi Ben. Yes, the deadening sheets will adhere to Raptor. However, due to the texted highs and lows, in application, it is important you press the deadener in to contact all the lows as well as the highs.
@@carbuilders1 thank you!
Is it a good or bad idea to coat the undercarriage and suspension parts of a crawler/ winter vehicle with a bed liner?
Hi Jordan. A good way to think of these paints is that they are roughly 5 times more durable than your standard body paint. However if you are scrapping rocks it will remove the paint.
Do you guys have a vehicle that has Bully on it for a few years? How is the UV resistance? I was thinking of using the Lighter gray on the whole vehicle. Does it get sticky feeling in hot sun?
Hi GSA Scott. The product Bully Liner has been around for a long time now. It states that it has been tested for 5000 continuous hours of UV. We haven't noticed any stickiness during the Summer months.
Does the Bully Liner trap dirt more than the raptor liner? I want to do my whole truck, but I don't want a constant dusty look. Sometimes I like it to look clean.
With Raptor being glossy, can you refinish it in 6 - 12 months if you damage it, like you did with the Bully? Really good and comprehensive video - thank you!!
Thank you Murray 👍Raptor doesn't blend like Bully so generally the panel will need to be prepped again
Guys notice hes got a big bully rubber liner sticker on that black wall which probably means hes sponsored by them.
We are a retailer of both these products. We made the video as we always get asked which one is better. We wanted to show why Raptor or Bullyliner might suit you better. Both have strengths and limitations.
Car Builders - Thermal & Acoustic insulation materials poeekz
How much does a full car spraying cost with the raptor and does it prevent rust ?
Hi there. You would need 12 bottles to do a full car. If you have rust treated the car before spraying, it will protect the surface 👍
Okay thanks for the answer
I'd like to see a test with fuel being spilt on the paintt to see if it would break down at all.
Hi Mildly. Check out this video th-cam.com/video/b29jcnSYE08/w-d-xo.html 👍
This seems more like a video for Bullyliner. He was pushing the Bullyliner. But this video makes me wonder about some of the shops here in Atlanta, They are doing spray in liners for under $300. What products are they using? HMMMMM?
Hi Antoine. Sorry it came across that way. We tried to be consistent in the video to show the strengths and limitations of both paints. We actually sell both of these paints, not just Bully, and tried to make this video so our customers could make an informed decision on which way to go.
Can have a choice of colors?
Where do you get such a red Bully liner? Do they mix it with red paints?
Hey Harry. There is a burnt red however we painted over the bully to get that colour. 👍
Hi there, is the raptor spray gun compatible with the bully tin?? Cheers
Yes, it is 🤙Just give us a call to discuss as I know Raptor have changed their spray guns (03 8777 0960)
Omg that is crazy and I thought California had expensive prices.
😆👍
@phuc ewe the raptor liner has the same base chemicals as line-x
Why didn't you do the rope test on the bully? Did I just miss it
Hi John. We did do it however it somehow was overlooked in final editing 😬It performed to the same level as the Raptor. The rope did burn through both paints (as rope is very abrasive with this motion). If you are going to use rope on bars with these paints we'd recommend a capping.
Without using the tinted version what type of paint could you use to go over raptor liner eg. for a black gloss finish or fluro striping
Hi Bags Mc Gee. The Raptor Black Midnight has a gloss finish. You can paint over the Raptor with any 2K or 1K paint. 😎👍
I have a question about the Bully Liner, does it fade in the sunlight? Looking for real world info as I'm considering this for a complete truck and don't want it looking like crap in a year
Hi motafinga. Both Bully and Raptor are UV tested for 5000 continuous hours. What colour where you thinking? Bully is a lighter shade of black than Raptor and almost has a faded appearance rather than pitch black. I understand Bully are about to release a true black in addition to their existing Midnight black shade.
I think I would likely go with the lighter grey color, I really like the idea of it being water based and also have the ability to do touch ups. I would probably roll it on as well. I have used Monstaliner on another project with a roller and it came out pretty good and they claimed it was very UV resistant do to it using a hardener/ catalyst. The Monstaliner seems to have a lot more color options too so I’m weighing it all out
Yeah, water based is an advantage of the product. Good luck with your project.
Do any of these products flex without cracking or chipping...... I want to do my aluminum bass boat..... and some of the spots you stand on has a little bit of flex
great video and great comparison. Answered my queery
Glad it was helpful!
Can the bully liner be easily removed?
