Great video you always get to the point. I'm older but beginner to modeling. Iv learned so much from watching other modelers and asking questions

This is great advice, and don't pay attention to the people who act like they are the best builder ever and their way is the RIGHT way.. There's not a wrong way, just practice your own way by watching others and creating a style that is YOURS & works for you.. That's all we can really do.. Great video SIR 😎👍

In life, there is only 1 person you have to be better than...that person is: YOURSELF..

I just came across your channel and your advice is spot on. My main hobby is model railroading, but I did model kits first as a kid. I'm getting a bug lately to build a model kit. I build craftsman kits in HO scale. I always tell new modelers the same when they see other peoples work, do the hobby your way and just keep improving your skills. I find your videos to be of excellent advice and I can see some of that probably came from your time of being in model railroading.

I appreciate this post, I watch videos and tips daily, I'm artistic when it comes to drawing painting is another story , but I do my research, watch videos like yours and try and try again, as well as look at as many models as I can, and every time I do a new one I try and do better then last. At this point I have about 3 going at any time one is always shits and giggles practice new things , one is the will see what happens and the last I'm going for gold, good advice man!

I totally agree. I learn from my last builds. But I build model cars for myself.

Great advice! It is very useful to occasionally look back on past models to see our own improvement.

Actually, it's perfectly fine to compare your models to others. Guys who are stuck on this will learn the hard way, while guys who use your advise and gain wisdom from experience will always be piling up the trophies while the "competitor" will not win nearly as much as he could if he just developed a more balanced attitude when it comes to what you place on the competition tables. There will always be one guy who's a step ahead of you, best advise is to develop humility, educate yourself ( don't be afraid to get pointers), and most importantly, have a ton of fun with this most therapeutic hobby. Allow people to have their own opinions, take it with a grain of salt, and do it with dignity as you give them cheese with their wine because they'll never stop crying that they're not as good as they think they are. Your advise works and thanks for sharing your wisdom and experience while getting your ( and our) modeling mojo goin on!

Great Point the model just completed should be noticeably better than The one before it. Don Have You experimented with custom made substitute model glass. ?? I have a great technique using cheap material for better glass

    • @ScaleModelTechniques

Yes , I use either clear acetate or the color pieces which are available in the local art stores .....

I use the clear plastic Cookie & muffin containers cut to flat sheets then use 220 sandpaper wrapped around a file

On both sides switch to 400 and repeat then 600. After 600. Maquires Plasti-X. Headlight polish restores it to clear. Cheap & Works Great
