    I have tried Testors and plastic tree mix together and mold into area, after time it would shrink, crack. Frustrating. I will try your method. Wet sanding,brilliant.

    Have you ever put a piece of styrene tree in thin liquid cement, causing the plastic to melt into a filler putty?

    Am I correct in assuming this the procedure is: 1) super glue, 2) Sand as needed 3) Use primer, 4) check for holes or uneven areas, use super glue( MEDIUM viscosity)as needed, then you can paint!

    I converted one of those "Junk" AMT 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air into a Chevrolet Del Ray. I removed the upholstery pattern and reworked it into the Del Ray patter and a whole lot more modifications all around and I ended up winning 2 trophies at 2 different model car shows.

    Hi,just found this channel,I live in the NW of England,UK, I use acrylic dental resin powder,(false teeth/dentures) mixed with superglue,fill the gaps,sand smooth and then polish,doesnt crack,doesnt shrink.best of all,its pink,so you can easily see where you have filled,and you can then put your primer colour over it to check it.

    YES SIR!!! Have used this method many a times for builds that needed body work. Another way of filling holes is using round stock the diameter of the hole, CA glue it in, cut it off, sand to perfection. Still killing them with knowledge old man. Keep it up. I should be back into building before too much longer. Can’t wait. Take care Old Timer. 🤜🏻🤛🏻

    I like the idear of using CA glue only because it's quick.
    But why does the 1:1 body filler work on real cars but shrinks on models?
    I started using a ployester putty that mainly for sculpting. Really fun to work with.

    That is a good tip about using superglue as a filler! On my current build, a Revell Foose Custom Cadillac Eldorado, I had been using Mr Dissolved Putty, followed by Mr Surfacer to try and get rid of some dents on the body. Only for the lacquer based primer & paint seem to reactivate the putty, leading to seams needing filled again.

    Have used baking soda ( some call it micro balloons) over the super glue
    Which will accelerate drying time immediately.Then another shot of super glue to seal it, then sand it out. Cigarette smoke will speed up the drying time also.( surgeon general) does not recommend.🤔🤠🇺🇸

  • @CycolacFan
    @CycolacFan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Never had a problem with cracking filler/putty that wasn’t down to the part or joint flexing but I’ve certainly had filler shrink over time. Even room temperature has an affect. I’ve tried them all over the years and Tamiya grey is about the best you’ll find. Certainly had success with superglue too.
    Great video. I’ll be interested to see how the ‘57 and the Vega come out.

  • @Hardcastle1971
    @Hardcastle1971 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    why can't you just use some model glue and a piece of the kit tree put it in something and let it melt and use a tooth pick to apply and use that as a body filler.... seen that be used before on small dents.

  • @johnathan133
    @johnathan133 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Excellent tip using the sharpie as a guide coat when sanding off mould lines, use it all the time. Adding talcum powder with the ca glue also makes it easier to sand. Great stuff Donn thanks!

  • @vacustoms
    @vacustoms 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    And yet another use for CA glue... I love it. I'm trying this approach on my current build. It's got a lot of little imperfections to it. My "go to" is usually Perfect Plastic Putty. As much as I love it... the shit's water based..... any sneeze will take it off.....

    I guess for some, this is just part of the process, and I guess they enjoy it. I HATE having to make up for other peoples mistakes and poor performaces. the simple fact is the cost of that model cast from brand new molds, with no flashing, and minimal distortion. is sold at the same exact price as the kit came from molds that needed replacing 3 years ago.

  • @user-sd5go4rr4i

    The old kits tend to be junk. The body is the easy part. The frames etc. Can be a nightmare.
