The best ones always make it look so easy. I feel like Elton could have been rocked on coke and booze out of his mind and still slayed the audience. He knows his instrument so well, and he knows his voice and it's limits. True genius of a musician.
Ryan Merritt Well when people are coked up or intoxicated they follow basic instincts. Here’s a perfect example. Bob Dylan is currently an alcoholic, and he goes on stage staggering drunk. Yet he can still perform. He said when you’ve played those songs as long as he has, it sticks with him, and when he sees the audience he knows what to do. Only difference is Elton can still deliver an amazing performance drugged up.
Imagine...being among the thousands in that crowd, so thrilled and caught up in the moment...yet not having any clue what would happen to his dear friend within just mere months... In hindsight, it would be both a blessing and an honor to have taken part in such a monumentous event, regardless of whether or not the performance of this song would foreshadow events to come. HBO taped this event for broadcast. And I do recall watching an encore presentation of it some years afterwards. It truly was a joy to watch Sir Elton in all the reputable flamboyance he is known for onstage. I believe this was just before he decided to purge off the majority of his stage wardrobe before it all went up on the auction block years afterwards.

too bad most of your compatriots hate gay people...maybe you should rethink your political affiliation. There is nothing in the conservative platform that is palatable to a critical thinker.
@@Bradgilliswhammyman That's pretty narrow-minded to think that most conservatives hate gay people. Bravo, Sir Elton! John Lennon would be so honored to have been alive to see you sing this beautiful song of his. You are so special, Sir Elton John!!♥️
I wasn't a big John Lennon/Beatles fan, but I remember watching Monday Night Football when they interrupted it to say John Lennon was shot! My first thought was . . . "Why would someone do that?" This performance of Elton was world class. That year 1980 my mom and dad even not knew each other.
My Mummy's 35th Birthday! RIP in Heaven
Can you imagine how crazy the crowd would have gone if Lennon walked onstage and sat at the piano with him...
Bassman968 Epic!!!
The night before we lost John, Elton closed his concert in Portland Or with his shoutout to his great friend. Darkly moving to both artists. Jim
Elton always looks like he's having a blast, although I'm not so sure he always is, but in this one he really looks like hes enjoying it.
Yes, he looks confident, strong, collected and calm. The way to go through life.
This was at the height of his cocaine years so that could be why 😉
@@housinauthority5258 yess he doesn't look completely sober here, butik still a great performance 💪💪💪

It’s hard to get downhearted when I think of what’s in store, it’s the day I’m waiting for and it’s just around the corner.
The World Economic Forum has proposed this type of system. During the day, people will use your house for meetings while you're at work. They also want steak replaced with bugs. Look into it. This is their own words. "You'll Own Nothing and Be Happy" is the article. Sounds like a great life! 😊
one of the greatest performers of our time, Sir Elton John
Watching these performances without glasses honestly makes me think it’s a crime that he hides those BEAUTIFUL eyes away like seriously LOOK AT THEM!!!!!
Hes so happy, and so funny. Only Elton can cover this song and make you smile... what i would do to have been there.
The
Sad story behind this masterpiece 😢
Is there anyone, on Earth, who can cover a song so well? I think not. Many of his originals are a gift to the world.
I have heard that Elton is one of a rare breed of celebrity! He can care about anybody without any prejudice! He became very good friends with a great conservative talk show host, while they happened to be in drug re-hab, at the same time! Elton does not draw lines in the sand! He was booed by alot of the gay community, and alot of liberals! Elton John is a true liberal! Liberal enough to do as he damned well pleases! I respect Sir Elton John as a great man! I am a right wing conservative!
too bad most of your compatriots hate gay people...maybe you should rethink your political affiliation. There is nothing in the conservative platform that is palatable to a critical thinker.
@@Bradgilliswhammyman That's pretty narrow-minded to think that most conservatives hate gay people. Just because support for the gay community is politicized by the liberal left, I hate to tell you, buddy, but TRUE conservatism hasn't a damn thing to do with social agendas. Conservatism - TRUE conservatism - is focused on economic and geopolitical issues rather than social issues. Stop listening to the mainstream media and buying into bullshit political tropes. I'm not religious, I'm EXTREMELY supportive of the gay community, and - OH! Surprise!- a political Libertarian. With EXTREMELY conservative economic and geopolitical views. So get with it, dude! Stop believing the lies of the liberal media, buddy.
@@setialphasix who did you vote for last election?
@@Bradgilliswhammyman I think you might be wrong. You want to believe we all hate gay people. I have worked with many gays as both of my careers were ones they often choose. I love my gay friends. So do most of my conservative friends. I am a registered nurse in icu.
@David Cubbage No it's just a political scam that conservatives hate gays. They don't care who you sleep with it has little to do with policy of how we run the country.
Joyous moment in time.
Wow… I’ve never come across this cover till now. It’s incredible.
I had no idea Elton was such a cutie that time

The mainstream radio doesn't play anything special anymore. Sure there's some good music today but not so high profile like it used to be. I fell like some of the best musicians out there are John Lennon, all of the Beatles, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, David Bowie, Elton John, Freddie Mercury, Guns n' roses, Elvis Presley, John Denver, Johnny Cash, Michael Jackson, Tupac Shakur, and the list goes on and on...
Zoonjse Pink Floyd, led zeppelin?
Yeas. They Are Def. on the list and also Dire Straits.
Zoonjse Forgot about John Fogerty
In brazil the situation on the mainstream radio is EVEN WORST!!!
Prince: "The greatest performer I have ever seen.A true genius.Musically way ahead of any of us."-Elton John.
Bravo, Sir Elton!
John Lennon would be so honored to have been alive to see you sing this beautiful song of his. You are so special, Sir Elton John!!♥️
John Lennon was alive to see this. I'm pretty sure John and Yoko were there after the show
This was the first song at my daughter's wedding for the first dance.
Felt amazing right?
Was 20yrs young when saw this peace...of art.
I wasn't a big John Lennon/Beatles fan, but I remember watching Monday Night Football when they interrupted it to say John Lennon was shot!
My first thought was . . . "Why would someone do that?"
My next thought, I don't remember --- but I just had such an overwhelming feeling of sadness that as a 17 year-old black boy I had never felt in my young life! It was at that point I realized . . . the world can be a F'd up place! Innocence lost on that 12/08/80 day! Still sad thinking about it! But glad I can!
this is beautiful. his voice is beautiful. he is beautiful. suddenly tears are running down my face.
