Is there any proof that Evanescence did live performances as early as January 1998? There also exist another concert video dated May 7th 1999 (also at Vino's pub).
I also have doubts it was filmed in 1998. You can hear from video that concert was filmed during "wonderfully cold January evening" Therefore I think January 1998 was a bit early but January 1999 more believable.

Because they weren't part of Evanescence. They were friends of Amy and Ben who didn't mind using their skills in their music but they were never officially in Ev
They were never members. Evanescence was only a duo: Amy and Ben, its co-founders. They would just hire guest musicians for live shows to perform the other parts of the songs they wrote.

Quite a challenge for Amy Lee to have to sing through this out of tune mess(Will)…fortunately, this evolved quickly with time. It’s cool to see the genesis of an idea and how it really took off years later.

Although they played with guest musicians, Evanescence remained a duo. "It was more because that's what we did and how we worked rather than not wanting any other input", Lee recalled; "The idea of a full band playing these songs was something that only came along later." Moody said that at the time Lee and him were focused on writing music over playing live shows, and they did not want to have a band join their writing process; "we just wanted it to be the two of us and so we'd play once or twice a year."

Not much is known about her but she was an opera style singer that Amy was friends with during high school, so she used to sing with band. :)
