- Evanescence EP is the first EP by Evanescence. It was released by Amy Lee and Ben Moody in 1998 at a concert at Vino's in Little Rock, Arkansas, as a printed CD-R. The EP sold out that night.
Evanescence EP is very rare; only 100 copies were made.
The cover features the sculpture Angel of Grief by William Wetmore Story, also found on the cover of Nightwish's Once and The Tea Party's The Edges Of Twilight.

My daughter died a year ago. Only 25, from heart failure. Evanescence is her fav band. I was able to find "The Angel of Grief" on an urn for her ashes. It's a miniature replica of the original. Beautiful! As well as a tribute to this album cover and EV.

The pain for losing a daughter or son never leaves, unlike usual grief that gradually gets better over time. As in the song "Understanding"...can't fight it all away, can't hope it all away, can't scream it all away, IT JUST WON'T GO AWAY!

I saw her live 2 years ago, and I listened to the outtake of My Immortal (she was 17!!!) and compared that to the videos of the show, and her vocals really did mature a lot!

I actually love this album and Origin more than the comercial stuff, I obviously like them all, but the previous material have something special... Dark Romantic
+simone agony It's genuine. I don't think they were to worried about becoming commercial at this point and probably not until somewhere after Origin. This is music from the soul. Itleast thats the only way I can put it.

Yea while Fallen is the 1st album I got, the demos and ep/lp's always drew me more and think their sound is amazing during this period, the original line up was purely lightening in a bottle, I'm happy they recorded so many songs and versions of their songs.

I'm no longer an emo teenager but this is still my fave Evanescence era. Maybe it's because what I mostly listened as a teenager and that's provided some residual influence, but after Ben left I really didn't feel Evanescence any more. YMMV.

One word. Understanding. That song totally blows everything evanescence has ever made out of the water for me personally. Makes you wonder what kind of band they could have turned out to be if they explored more of what they did on that song as well as "Lies" on origin? my guess is they would have had a sound that would have been even more awesome than how their sound is now.

In my humble opinion, this is the best album Evanescence ever recorded (Origin is a close second). I was once a proud owner of one of the few original copies of this album, but unfortunately it was stolen from me. :-(

I have very strong nostalgic feelings when listening to this. Don‘t know why. It has always been. I see myself as a teenager again, I see school, when i met friends after school, walking the streets of my hometown at night alone and all that covered in a light mood of sadness, bittersweet in a way.
I had this album from my friend who introduced me to Evanescence while in an Arkansas university, but unfortunately I no longer have the the hard copy of it but thankful someone uploaded it here 🤗
I find earlier Evanescence to be almost quite spiritual, does anyone else agree?

They started off as a Christian band. That sort of evolved over time with Amy and the bands growth and changes.

Anyone here 2018? I just recently saw there synthesis concert with Lindsay and it was amazing. Ofc I was there mainly for evanescence:) All there albums are amazing and have actual meaning which is why I love listening to them. I have forgotten how much I loved songs like solitude. Lies. And field of innocence which is why I’m back here:)
Understanding, this song moves so much in me. I always end up crying when I listen to it, even if I'm busy doing something else, it catches my attention.

As vezes eu tenho a impressão de que nós os fãs do evanescence preferimos mais essas músicas desse álbum do que os álbuns que levaram a banda ao sucesso. Gosto de todos os álbuns, mas considero essas músicas as mais importantes da banda.
Essas com certeza são as melhores. A banda hoje nem valoriza essas mais antigas, mas são as que mais ouço. Elas mexem com meus sentimentos de uma maneira inexplicável.

"You" que considero uma das mais tristes da banda. E "Anywhere" que é uma das melhores que acho, e que poderia ter sido um single.

If someone is into astrology... Amy has a moon /pluto connection in her birth chart with a soft cancer moon. This old stuff is screaming plutonic moon. I also got one, that's why I became so obsessed about this band as a teen. I love it because it always had an extremely deep purging effect on me.

This is my favourite and number one album ever, her voice lift my soul and make my mind, when i hear these songs i feel so comfortable. I feel really safe.
This is a good album to kick back on a late Saturday night with a glass of wine...or two LOL.
The original My Immortal cuts just as deep but differently. wow.

Eu amo muinto essa grupo
It's been 25 years since this was released! And to this day, it does sound unexpectedly good. The only thing this EP lacked was more money for better mastering and a little bit of promotion. The amount of emotions and pure creativity put into it makes it really stand out from everything they have done later. Nobody can deny how interesting it is. The part of Solitude that also is the outro - The End hits every time. Imaginary and My Immortal in this version sound so raw and sincere it kicks you in the stomach. Understanding stands out as a gem in it's own right, while still brilliantly serving as an emotional coup de grace of the record. The only song that has in fact aged kinda poor is Exodus, but lets be frank - even Amy Lee doesnt like to talk about this song. All in all it's still creatively cohesive piece of alternative music, painted with many shades of gloom, melancholy, sadness. Self-exploratory, bold, sometimes depressive and moody. Other times very at peace with self and everything around at the same time. I'm giving it solid 7,5/10 with a heart icon as every few years I like to give it a listen.

Seeing the thumbnail, I first thought "no, that's Once from Nightwish" but then searched online... and it appears that this statue, named "Angel of Grief" has been the cover of four different band albums ! I like this :D

Marie Lee plus the page they copied the description from says they were sold to family and friends first, and the remaining ones got sold at the concert. They're spending their days in hands that keep em for the memories mainly probably. Just buy origin. It's expensive enough to make you happy ;)
Dr Wopadoo x Volgner Amy and Ben clarified that you can download Origin and all pre-fallen demos for free long ago. Check the Evanescence Reference for links to downloads and the interview where they confirmed this.
