Found a 1995 MX-6 LS for sale on the internet in 1999. White with a beige interior. Turned out the seller was a guy I had graduated high school with (fun fact). I bought the car and drove it until 2012, when it started having overheating problems. Auto shop changed out the radiator for me, but it kept overheating. They finally decided it had a warped head. Too expensive to put a new engine in it, so I sold to a buddy's son for parts. He told me a couple of months later that his son was driving around in it. He found the mechanic hadn't hooked the radiator up properly, so there was no coolant circulation. I loved that car for 13 years and I hated to lose it that way. Can't be too mad, I graduated to a Mazdaspeed3!
After I wrapped my first car, an 87 RX-7, around a tree, I got one of these and absolutely loved it. Mine was the 4 cylinder model that somehow managed to be faster than my friend’s Mustang regardless of it’s low horsepower. I thought it handled a lot better than the RX-7 did around the mountain roads. It was my favorite car. I miss that car.
I drive a ‘95 mx6 and it’s my first car too! Runs beautifully, sounds like a beast, I love these cars so much.. eventually I plan on learning how to drift w/ it too!
As of right now I am doing a lot of repair work on my 1994 mazda mx6 2.5L manual. I am almost done with the work. I can't wait to drive it again. I have owned a mazda mx6 for 15 years. I love them. With a manual transmission they are also very dependable cars also.
@@JC-zj2is I got my 1994 MX6 for about 1k. I do love these cars, but both of the 2 mx6 cars I have had did burn oil. They do have a need for rebuilding the engine after many miles. That is the same story for many older cars out there.
b5bus thank you for the response. The one in my town that is 3.5k has about 43k miles. Paint and interior is pretty much perfect, but i haven’t pulled the trigger because i don’t know much about them.
By modern day standards it's slow, but damn if it isn't a fun a car. Get the V6 with the 5speed. I've owned both the I4 and the V6. Stock V6 performance is not bad, but it is so satisfying to drive. Awesome Japanese V6 sounds and great gearbox. If you can pick up one in decent condition (harder to find nowadays) GET ONE.
@@lollol-xp4mc I have a 1994 v6 that I just rebuilt and it is definitely a fun car but it does seem slow. It's not bad but it would be fun to turbo it. However I might wait to get a 350z
Get a high flow cat and save yourself the hassle. Get headers and go 2.5" all the way. Magnaflow sounds great. You can pass emissions and not have to swap anything. That thing deserves a KLZE too.
Ok.. ima lil bitch I am crying.i miss it so much.. it was my first car also.. I only had the 2.0 5 speed.. but even stock I races and beat cars It probably shouldn't have .(like a v6 90s Camaro. Eagle talon,a few Subarus, and a yes I know it's the worst one but a stock 90 or 92 supra cant exactly remember.... But omg I miss that car its just so gorgeous!!
A black 1997 MX-6 was my first car, had it from 2004 to 2008, it was an excellent ride for the time I had it. While it was too costly for me to go through getting the japanese KLZE engine into it, I did get a set of the J-Spec cams installed which alone actually made quite a noticeable improvement in its power band by allowing it to pull decently all the way to the 7k redline. (unlike stock which it would lose its "umpf" at around 6k rpms.) Sadly in its 4th year with me of the camshafts just literally broke in half whilst I was driving home from work (not sure why, it had never given me any issues or indications of a problem before) and I ended up deciding to move onto a new car at that point but it was a fantastic first vehicle and I still miss it sometimes.
Something about you leaning on the car patting it with your hand in a matter of fact way....while wearing rolled up skinny jeans and converse shoes....... gets me every time 😂.
I have a 1992 Mazda MX6 and have had it for 23 years. It has been vandalized three times. the last time was a month ago where someone broke in and trashed my ignition and driver's door and I even had a security system on it but somehow it was circumnavigated! I live in Victoria on Vancouver Island.
Get a kill switch. I'm going to put one in my 6, mount it underneath the shift boot. Cuts off the fuel relay so it's impossible to move without towing it.
I mean.. it has good Gas Mileage, its cheap, it does have a fair bit of storage space and it is pretty reliable. But it is a bit big for a first car and it still costs a good bit because of the V6
I have one parked in front of my house here in PR(about 3yrs.) and I am planning to fix it....only the flow meter and the rabisa ( cables of the engine electronics...the engine has preasure meters and also and has cooling system brakes....color of car is white pearl...ill take it to a real good mechanic that knows mazda cars and then and only then it will hit the street...has a powerfull engine (1993 stick)

I just bought one, was yours reliable?
Love these. The next door neighbors had one when I was growing up. It stood out among the station wagons and minivans on the street.

Might need to rethink that one bud
Yeah its FWD buddy.
McDonald's food trays under the back wheels with hand brake on is the only way you'll get one of these to drift 😂
Such an overlooked model. Nothing but love for the MX6 from me. Had an 88GT 5spd in the family. Loved that car so much.
