They actually meant that they looked at a fan-favourite android from ST:New Generation, the one with Picard. After that they realized that only *greed* distincts them from a cold, heartless machine and immediately added microtransactions to FO76.
We realized no one bought our game after the first day and some stores are just giving the game away for free to make space in storage, We lost so much money on a poorly made game that took a year to "fix" and have only been losing money on it. For once it's not about greed, it's about incompetence, as well as greed because we still think we can make millions off this broken idea.
"We looked at the data, and it told us our parent company's shareholders are pretty pissed off that 76 didn't make ALL OF THE MONEY like we said it would, so...."
To be fair Pete Hines is just their spokesperson. He just says what they tell him to. That having been said he has said quite a few good things in the past that has earned my great respect when he didn't need to.
you guys deserve it. bethesdas greed was obvious since 2009, but you guys were oblivious to this. blinded by your own greed and ignorance. and despite all this coorporate greed there are still people who are like "but elderscrolls 6 is gonna be different".
@@tommerker8063 Oh I agree with you. I took one look at _Fallout 3_ (played on a friend's PS3) and thought, "What is this? I wouldn't necessarily mind a perspective change, but this writing feels very tonally different from the previous games, and I think that is to its detriment. On top of that, some of these quests feel disjointed, forced, on-rails or poorly conceived. I think this is a drop in quality for the franchise, and I don't like where this seems to be going." When they came out with the *three dollar* "horse armor DLC" for Skyrim, which to be blunt, everybody and their mother knows is the sort of "content" that should be a part of the base game, I knew they were hopelessly lost to the dark arts of nickel-&-diming their customers for all they were worth.
Bethesda never said. They were always a shit company. ALWAYS. That's the reason they let MODDERS in. Because they knew they could get free labour from their fans, while reaping the benefit of being seen as 'good guys'.
@@Slitheringpeanut I don't think that's true. But it certainly unintentionally became the case. Bethesda however, has always been a company that released broken games. As early as Arena. It pretty much wasn't until Morrowind when the modding scene came in and started thriving, and fixing Bethesda's crap. So with each new release in their games in the BGS family, it will get more polished by the modders rather than the devs. Their most stable game was Fallout 4 (if you don't count the re-releases of Skyrim) and it still was plagued with problems.
Well, morons still buy up all the monetized garbage from Activision AFTER they lie about predatory monetization every year - with all their games. It's sad but $$$ talks, bs walks. All the "outrage" is a waste of time if people keep buying their non-game, ip-themed marketplace trash.
@@kieranpearson5096 How is it not? Anthem is all bravado, all bark with zero bite, an absolute void in terms of content, all of the game's budget went into advertising the game, there was no game to begin with, the dev team started to work on the game based on its reveal trailer which they weren't aware of, and after all this time, there's still nothing to do. 76 as a game is actually decent if you've enjoyed bethesda's previous Fallout titles. People are afraid of the game because of the PR nightmare that it is, but the biggest complaints since launch have long been fixed, yet people are still fixated on complaining about those things that no longer apply.
@@Kovac_ "76 as a game is actually decent if you've enjoyed bethesda's previous Fallout titles." i've mostly enjoyed the witty writing, colorful NPCs and quests in previous fallout titles and i've heard that 76 is sorely lacking in them :(
@@pizdamatii5001 That's because the game lacks human NPC's altogether, which will be coming to the game soon, but there are some existing NPC's, robots and whatnot, that are enjoyable to interact with. All bethesda games are average, they're all from 6 to 8/10 depending on preferences. The overall writing is lazy and there's only handful of NPC's in each game that you actually grow fond of, rarely are the quests in the games good, every 1 in 50 quests are actually enjoyable to do. The best part about the games is the exploration aspect and the freedom of it all AND the character you grow up and evolve. If you start going down the path already defined, you won't enjoy the games as much, 76 does the exploration part well and the world is very well integrated with the multiplayer aspect.

I don't know about that, I'm not sure even Bethesda are stupid enough to remove the ONLY good thing about their games. It's basically the defining feature of a Bethesda game, that it gets fixed by modders. Having said that, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they removed it anyway

I personally liked Oblivion, though for me Bethesda peaked at Daggerfall. Skyrim wasn't bad but it was the beginning of the end. They sacrificed a lot to get to a decent place combat wise. Morrowind is when they figured out questing. The questing in Morrowind was great. Since then Bethesda has been trying to reduce role-playing in the name of action.
SirJMO It’s awful for players on console too I can assure you. I cringe every time I see “offers” being promoted for it in the corner of the title screen. I also like how you have to scroll past it to get to the “mods” section as well in the UI.
I don’t know why anyone bothers to play this [these] games anymore. People: stop with preorders, wait until you see what a game has to offer before buying, and stop paying for microtransactions.
Problem is you have to wait 3 months because even waiting for launch doesn't mean there won't be microtransactions a couple months after release (see activision games)
The average gamer joe doesnt watch these kinda videos unfortunatly and take the games hype videos as gospel truth. You cant teach those who dont want to learn.
The problem is, that as YongYea has pointed out in this very video the most malignant companies like Bethesda, EA and Activision have no compunction about retroactively adding the egregious montitisation bullshit in after release so that they can maximize whatever capital they can from initial goodwill by leveraging the game mechanics after people are already invested. It's seriously one of the most overtly unethical ways to do business I have ever seen, and that's including some of the bullshit the cigarette companies use to do. I mean can you imagine Phillip Morrison releasing a safe, cancer-free cigarette, then after they have a bunch of regular buyers, suddenly and without any forewarning swapping back to carcinogenic and addictive tobacco so that they can hook their customers on the produce, some of whom are kids, because the original product was legal to sell to kids? That's the equivalent to what these guys feel perfectly comfortable doing. So just waiting till release to see what is actually offered isn't enough. People would have to wait till 6 months or even a year after release to see what is the actual end product. Really people just need to stop buying from the repeat offender companies altogether till they with go under or learn the lesson permanently in order to save themselves.
the11382 same. What's the point, modders will need to fix it to make it playable anyways - and, regardless, it'll still be the same buggy shit-tastic engine anyways, so no matter what it'll be absolute garbage
Remember all the amazing DLC with Fallout 3 and New Vegas? I payed for the season pass on 4 without a second thought and all I got was a construction set NO ONE wanted or asked for mixed with almost no additional game play. I won't purchase anything from them sight unseen again. I didn't buy 76 and I won't puchase TES6 untill the reviews are out on mass and sure as hell will never purchase a season pass again. Bethesda and BioWare used to be the best and now they're con men and thieves. Breaks my heart.
How is this news? I mean I get it - it's something new that is worth reporting... But the real news shuld be that someone still plays it enough to notice these micro-transactions?

@Azukana True, but now many of their fans who didn't care about Fallout 76 have gained a much more negative bias on the company for their actions. The game has already been swept under the rug by many; the new shit-stains from it ON the rug are what're bringing people back. Some people say bad PR is good PR; this instance doesn't seem to be the case.
Matt Garofano Even with a new engine, I wouldn’t buy from them. I have no reason to think that they won’t ruin the games with MTX and online only bullshit.
Its a shame you can't post image replies on youtube. There's a good image where someone put Todd Howard's face on Benny's body, explaining how since all the games use the same outdated architecture on the same aging engine reusing textures and animations whenever possible, they've just been selling two flavors of the same modded game for years. Literally selling "paid mods" all along.

They backpedaled on their PROMISE to not include gameplay microtransactions. Honestly, It's kind of amazing. This game never stops having controversy after controversy. Even if it's not the game itself, as long as it has the Fallout 76 brand, it will be shit. The only thing it can really give them credit for is that they have stuck with this game for so long. It's longer than EA did with Anthem. Yong, I don't know if you remember but you made a video defending the game when it was being compared to Metal Gear Survive. Grated, it was before Fallout 76 was released but I really want to know if you still feel the same way you did in that video with everything you know about now. Bethesda, through this one game, has effectively lost ALL of the consumer good will they have accumulated over years of good-great games. This sets a very dark future for them. I am not looking forward to Elder Scrolls 6 or any other of their future titles by Bethesda themselves. I REALLY don't think Bethesda will learn from this unfortunately. Triple A companies never learn after all. And that's what Bethesda has become. Just another Triple A company trying to Nickle and Dime players at every turn.
They don't need to learn. 95% of players don't buy anything and they don't care about that at all. The 5% that are whales and buy EVERYTHING make them more money than they could ever need. The world is a shitty place. Devs don't care anymore. All about the $$$.
Bungie is doing the same thing. They’re selling “convenience” items through their battle pass system and exp boosting ghosts through their in game store. They drastically reduced the amount of in game bright dust you can earn in order to get items from the in game store. All to make more money off their players. I still have NO IDEA why players are allowing these companies to do this. It just blows my mind how people are throwing money at these companies for digital coding that will be useless in a year.
At the very least Bungie have made the base game available for free - Fallout 76 is still sold at full price. I feel like I'm screaming into a tornado, but I'm going to keep saying it: The broken and disappointing state of games like Anthem and FO76 were NOT accidents. They were a direct application of what Mr Jernstrom highlighted in his talk. Make a deliberately broken game, as utterly close as you can manage to the line where it becomes as scam. Then you "offer" all the elements that should have been there from the start in a macrotransaction in-game economy, all but forcing players to keep spending well beyond what they spent for the initial game release. Blizzard is flat out lyinig. The research that "revealed" this didn't take place after launch. It was part of the game's product strategy from Launch Day minus 1000.

The average gamer joe doesnt watch these kinda videos unfortunatly and take the games hype videos as gospel truth. You cant teach those who dont want to learn.
@@Lightning9060 guess those idiots deserve to lose their money then
The problem is, that as YongYea has pointed out in this very video the most malignant companies like Bethesda, EA and Activision have no compunction about retroactively adding the egregious montitisation bullshit in after release so that they can maximize whatever capital they can from initial goodwill by leveraging the game mechanics after people are already invested.

1. The Game itself is Boring and Broken.
2. There are Glitches are Everywhere.
3. The Game messed with established lore.
4. They knew it would be a rough launch but did it anyway without a second thought.
5. The Nylon Duffle Bag that was given in the 200 Dollar Collector's Edition instead of the Canvas Duffle Bag promised.
6. The 500 atoms to make up for the Duffle Bags but it is practically nothing ingame and you can't even get yourself an ingame duffle bag.
7. The False and Half Hearted Apologizes Throughout EVERY CONTROVERSY.
8. The Nuka-Dark Rum bottles (or rather plastic shells) and poor quality rum.
9. Making the game Grinder without telling players like another certain company did so long ago.
10. The 276 Dollar "Premium" Leather Jackets were Very Gaudy and Unappealing.
11. Taking a Stupidly long amount of fan backlash and time it took to get an actual Canvas Duffle Bags as Advertised.
12. The website leaking out people's names, credit card information, and payment information.
13. The Slow Leak of Gameplay Microtransactions.
14. Every Time they update the game, patched out glitches come back.
15. The Nuka-Cola Themed Helmets being Dangerously Moldy.
16. They backpedaled on their PROMISE to not include gameplay microtransactions.

I still have NO IDEA why players are allowing these companies to do this. It just blows my mind how people are throwing money at these companies for digital coding that will be useless in a year.
At the very least Bungie have made the base game available for free - Fallout 76 is still sold at full price. For a f2p model, Destiny's actually very lenient as well, compared to MMORPGs like World of Warcraft.
