This is the first time I have used an Insta 360 X3 Camera, I can see how great an asset it will be for any video maker however I don't think I would use the onboard audio as it was very prone to wind noise. Maybe use it for certain shots where music can be laid over or add audio from another device which is something I do quite often.
I believe Roye England captured an image of my father in law Ronnie Shaw when he took his photo of Badbury.
I estimate the photo was taken between 1938 to 1940 and the boy (my father in law) is making his way back home up the hill. He is a lanky boy in shorts and with straight hair, Ron as I knew him was still and lanky chap and still had a full head of straight hair, sadly he died in 2012 so it's not possible to ask him if he could remember the photographer on the wall.
I'm as certain as I can be that it's my father in law in the photo but also around this time or shortly afterwards there would have been an influx of evacuees from London. I'd still put money on it being him though!
The photo was taken just a few yards up from the pub (The Bakers arms), the thatched cottage and its garden wall has changed but there are still many things that remain.
I rode my Planet X Tempest bike on this adventure, I am extremely pleased with this bike, it's everything I want from a conventional cycle, it rolls fast, changes gear impeccably and is exceptionally light and strong thanks to it's titanium frame.
I fitted a TRK SMP saddle to the bike together with a suntour suspension seat post which has transformed the ride especially on rough terrain.
The bike has 700C wheels and 40mm tyres running at 35 psi.
Thanks for taking the time to watch my videos, I hope I have inspired some of you to "Get out there". You are never too old! - บันเทิง
Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoy this video.
If you have any questions please read the description box first as you may find the answer your looking for there!
You're a lovely man as well, Sandy. How you care about the resting ducks and the respectful moment at the last resting place of Royce C.C. England. You did very well with your new camera. Again a very nice video, thank you so much, atb from Holland, ps greetings to the missus and a pet for the four legged friends
Thanks :) The dogs are by my feet now, I shall give them a pet for you:)
That is a lovely bike, Sandy. I never tire of your videos, best thing on my TV 👍
Thanks Dave:)
What an enjoyable half hour’s viewing. Lovely tour of the countryside, plus an interesting story of Roye England with the family connection and photograph.
Thank you for sharing it.
Just watched this one on my Big TV TH-cam ! Loved every minute of it nice bit of history and lovely countryside. The 360 camer work looks good to me. Thanks so much my best wishes to you from the Philippines 💪👍😉😀😁🐑🇵🇭🏴
Thanks Gordon
Beautiful exploration and step back in time. The tourism arm of Wiltshire Council should have you on the payroll as you do them a wonderful service! A lovely tribute to Roye England too, the man himself would've been proud.
Love the globe effect with the 360. Looks like you're on your own little world. Sandy world.
I often go back to places of yester year, to see if anything remains of the places i remember as a child. Cameras and processing the film was quite expensive back then, so not many had cameras, barring the odd few a bit better off than we were back then. But I can still remember the images of all those years, as clear as day and try to get photos with todays tech advancements and occasionally find the odd place that hasnt changed too much over the years. Slept a lot of nights in those old telephone boxes back in the 70's, sheltering from the cold and rain through the night. No phones in any now...bring back those good ole days and fond memories of our mobile phone being the telephone box at the end of the road....When Buzby said "A long distance call still costs less than 10p, when dialed direct from your home phone" and phone boxes took 2p pieces
Wonderful scenery and 🐑🐑🐑🐑 Very pretty villages with your family connection. Thankyou Sandy
I reckon that that was one of your best videos. Stunning. Really enjoyed that. Great to to see a personal connection ❤️
Hi Sandy, another great video mate, really enjoy your local area ride outs and the history that you bring to all us viewer's, and a lovely part of the country too. The 360 looks an excellent bit of kit, will look forward to you putting it to good use bud.
Keep the videos coming, always really enjoy them.
Best regards to one and all in the house of the Wiltshire Man.
Moose.
Thanks Moose, the 360 camera will give me a lot more options thats for sure
Fascinating video Sandy, beautiful scenery, Village's and a family connection as well, 'Purfick!'.
Thank you Sandy, It was nice to see the beautiful countryside, always great videos.
Thankyou Sandy for making this delightful video and with the help of the donated gift 360 camera. This was a great and enjoyable video and your wife must have also been delighted about Roy Englands photo of her Dad as a boy in Badby wonderful. Yes the footage around the church was great and also your footage of the city with the well spring was lovely, and i can tell your enjoying your Planet X bike and can't wait to see your next adventure you gave a mention about, lovely and thanks for sharing all this Sandy 👏👋
Wonderful detective work to find the spot of the photograph and beautiful story of your father-in-law. The history of the UK is a wonderful subject. Thanks for sharing.
That was an unusual and enjoyable video the 360 looks to be fun.
Such a beautiful village Sandy. That 360 camera gives an unusual view at times, like you are walking round a globe.Very nice viewing. Thank you.
Thanks to the doner of the 360 camera for enhancing your ride in the countryside. It was really lovely to see the photo of your stepfather, it touched my heart. One of your best videos
I like it when a connection to the past can be found:)
Great footage and sound from the 360º camera and beautiful countryside indeed.
Cycling in London is just eeerrrrghh compared.
I can imagine it's not such a nice place to ride a bike Klaus but a lot of history there I'm sure
Here’s to a good life and many healthy days ahead to you, Sandy. Kind of you to do a favor for your viewer in seeking Roy England’s memorial. Take care and all the best.
Very interesting video. Very nice to hear the story of Roye England, and to see his beautiful models in the museum. Very pleasant to follow along with you.
Well done sandy , good to see you're free of the bugs or viruses you had..
The rain we have been getting has contributed to people feeling unwell let's hope we see some sunshine soon!
I think a lot of my problem was due to not eating enough to replace the calories I've burned
You look fully charged up now!!
I'm not going to say slow down I'm going to say pace yourself. .
I got drenched last week and was going down with something so I blasted it with multivitamin /primroseoil and echinacea ..
Also a hot curry shifts most stuff.
@@frankryan782 Haaa thats a good way to deal with an illness Frank:)
This video surprised me somewhat, I felt a little emotional when you paid your respects to Roy. I agree, he must have been a lovely man & very passionate about preserving how the countryside was. He certainly succeeded. That’s a great camera Sandy. Great work on the family history. Fantastic stuff.
It lifts my spirits to know there are people like Roye England about, even though Roye has now passed away there are others following in his footsteps
What a wonderful, joyous, wee ride out Sandy👌😉Your new piece of kit looks awesome and it's a good job that your fitness is up, as you have so many electronics to make these great vids! A ride with just your water bottle and saddle bag will see you flying🤣ATB👍
It's nice to travel as light as possible Marty, just imagine how much weight all this gear would have weighed with cameras from yesteryear!
Really enjoy your videos Sandy, the English village's and country side plus the history are interesting.
A great result with the first use of insta 360.
Looking forward to seeing more 360 footage.
Kind regards from Adelaide Australia.
A nice ride and a very interesting one. The 360 camera gave some great shots.
What a wonderful video Sandy. Bless you mate!!
Hi Sandy. I was on the ride to Pendon Museum with you and to see you follow it up with this tribute to Roye is extremely touching. A big well done. 👍
Thanks Mark, That was a wonderful visit to Pendon, what a top job they have done
Brilliant piece of detective work there, Sandy. Thank you for the history lessons as always. Justin, you're an absolute LEGEND! 🙂👍
Hahaa Yes I reckon Justin is a Legend as for me I'm a Leg end :)
Hi sandy your like the Jack Hargreaves of Wiltshire, interesting viewing, thanks 👍
Another great video thanks
Been watching your videos for a while now. I have to say I admire you for your effort and the wonderful content you put out. I absolutely love how you explore history and nature. I love the x3 and it will be a great tool for you to use.
All the best.
Again Sandy, Thank you for the video, wow, spring cottage! Nice, love to see far away places. Still a bucket list location to visit England is, Cheers from Oklahoma
Thank you Sandy! Just a note you may want to make known to other subscribers. I routinely check my subscription status when viewing a video. To my dismay I found that somehow I was magically unsubscribed. TH-cam is the suspected culprit. All subscribers should check the status of their subscription to prevent this. I love the biking and camping videos, keep it up!
It's been happening a lot to my channel lately Joel, the channel is stalling with regard to income and views and it's all down to youtube not promoting my content, they want creators to pay them to enable the channel to grow and I simply can't afford to do that!
You do make interesting videos, cracking content, love watching 👍👍
Wonderful video Sandy of a wonderful slice of Wiltshire
Hi Ralph, despie all the C%$p thats happened to our country it's still a beautiful place and Wiltshire is a gem:)
I really loved this wonderful video Sandy, seeing where your Father in law lived and the photo.
Those cottages are beautiful, Sandy. I don't really think we have anything like that in the States, especially the thatched roofs. 3D footage came out great
Spring cottage - what a beauty❤
I wish all cities were like that WM. Great video, thank you 👍👌
18:40 - That's the most English view ever!
Spring cottage has to be one of the most beautiful in the village
That 360 cam is facilitating, I’ve never heard of it, very interesting. Video
On a sunny day, the stick will leave a shadow on the ground 😂.
New camera has a nice clear picture. Interesting effect. That little village looks like a nice place to live. A little exercise everyday adds up to better health. Beautiful places and spaces Sandy.
Bishopstone is perhaps the prettiest village close by Jim, takes me about 30 minutes to cycle there
Great video really interesting with the history about the old black and white picture. The 360 degree camera footage was really good the good thing with those is you decide what you want to look at in the editing so you don't miss anything. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Enjoyed this video bro so thanks for letting us tag along. Safe travels. Ken.
Hi Sandy fantastic episode loved the story surrounding it thanks for sharing 👍
Great video as always sandy, lovely to see those little villages, so pretty, cheers.
Sandy was nice to see you back out on your bike nice bit of history nice to see you again stay safe and stay healthy one life enjoy blessed be
Thanks Francis
Hi Sandy a very interesting video we also enjoyed the Pendon museum My wife Kay also looks forward to your vey interesting videos so we watch the videos together and we appreciate all the hard work in putting the videos together.
Very interesting and enjoyed the history sandy keep it up love watching your adventures thanks 👌👍
Thanks
Thats very kind Thank you. I shall use the money wisely and buy some coffee and cake to keep me fuelled:)
That was a very interesting video with some pretty good investigative content on piecing together some puzzle pieces relating to family history. Roye England appears to be a very dedicated individual that would probably be very appreciative of your efforts to share some of his historical background in order to honor his contributions. And with your information as to the possible connection of a photo that he took of your father in law as a child makes it even more intriguing. Thank you for sharing the trip down Memory Lane. See you on the next one my friend.
Thanks Terry, I'm as sure as I can be that the child in the photo was my father in law. :)
Small world sandy, I love then and now photos especially ww2 it’s just awesome to see how very little has changed. I make a mean FRAPPE sandy just like you were on the streets of Thessaloniki 🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷 you would love it ❤❤
Audio was spot on Sandy. Nice camera. Watercress, yes even built a railway line for it. I think a bracket of some kind might hold the selfie stick to the handlebars. I think most people would love a chance to live a city like that. some nice professional style transitions Sandy.
Glad you enjoyed the video Mark:)
@@WiltshireMan as always Sandy
Another great video, Sandy. I'm in danger of living vicariously through your videos but luckily I enjoy cycling too much to not "get out there!" I live a few miles from the Pendon Museum and know the area reasonably well. When you're next visiting, as you like panoramic views, you need to climb the Wittenham Clumps. Round Hill, the higher of the two hills, has spectacular views over Little Wittenham, Day's Lock and Dorchester-on-Thames and for miles beyond. The other hill, Castle Hill, is the site of an Iron Age hill fort. A 110km round trip for you but I think you'd enjoy it and it'd give you more subject material for your new 360 camera!
Thats a worthy trip for sure Clive, I think anyone who is a keen cyclist will never fall for the trap of living vicariously as the bike will get you out:)
Whose Justin what a great expensive gift.
Fabulous video Sandy, really enjoyed this one with all that history behind the photo of your father in law. 📸 💙 Good to see you looking in a fitter state. Take care. 🚲 🌳 ☁️ ❤
Yes much better now Angela, I needed to eat more calories:)
@@WiltshireMan Good to hear. Xx
Excellent video Sandy and you have your vitality back - I did warn you about water but to be fair if they say the water is drinkable then maybe it is - I doubt it however - may have been years ago and if you feel ok you fell ok 😊
I have seen the city on your channel before, what a magical little hideaway... some nice little villages on this vid, you can't beat village life. I think it is safer and friendlier than towns and cities, not to mention quieter and more relaxed. I have been to Pendon a few times, incredible work. Roye was an aussie, born in Perth. How's that bike seat now mate?
I have featured it before Bry, yes very friendly you don't get much rowdiness in the sleepy villages. Yes your right Roye did come from Australia. Bike seat is so much nicer, I can ride for many hours without discomfort now:)
❤You work hard to make nice films!
Thanks Bolle:)
Superb camera, and editing software. Is there any point to standard video cameras now, I wonder. Safer when riding, if mounted to the bike, as well.
Lovely village.
Thats true, I can leave the camera to do it's thing and concentrate on riding:)
Roye England 1906-1995. His ashes are interred at the foot of the tower at St. Mary's Church located on Church Ln. in Bishopstone, UK South Carolina
Brilliant video as always.
Love your vids Sandy ❤
Lovely video Sandy.
Very interesting video (as usual 😀);360 camera was really good!
I was also unsubscribed! So have resubscribed.
Great Video Sandy, you did miss my old house in Wanborough, If you had started the Calis hill section 100yrd back where the 3 old cottages set slightly back No3 used to be mine, Oh and you missed by inches Radio One DJ Bruno Brookes's house (old house) at Oxon place. Great Video Thank You !
( I will add that the Bruno did have a sign written horse box on his drive when we wasn't fixing it so it was no secret where he lived) LOL
You can't beat local knowledge Tim:)
Nice video.
Thanks Andrew:)
Been away for a ten day weekend, long story. I have been told I have sufficient cameras LOL.
N plus 1 is the formula to apply Dave:)
Thanks for sharing your interesting video, it's sad Pendon Museum doesn't mention Roye England great work.
I think they do Keri, they have several photo's of him showing how he built the models
@@WiltshireMan OK, I couldn't see any reference to Roye England on their website.
good vid on channel out and about keep up the good vids
Thanks Lee
Idyllic quintessential England.
How it should be.
Not like towns and cities these days that are unrecognisable as English.
I’m boiling my water these days because England is becoming a underdeveloped country.
Breaks my heart to see it sliding backwards.
We are told to embrace it and it’s Good.🤷♂️
looks great sandy
Thanks Garry, this 360 tech must have come down in an alien space ship:)
You will be filming for country file before long sandy lol did you watch the ride London on iPlayer? We rode out about a mile to watch them go past, much better on the tv it’s all over in a matter of seconds when they go past.
Hi Lewis, No I didn't know anything about the ride London, I think these type of events you always get a better view on TV
Lovely photo of your Father-in-law as a young lad.
Do you know Sandy....Was that a mangle (for laundry) or a machine for chopping animal feed in the front yard in the black & white photo?
👍👍👍👍👍
I enjoyed the 360 footage. But you stated it when you made the video. It gets over used like drones some time. People want to make entire videos of just that. But it looks like you have a new toy and have fun working it into an already well put together channel with editing already. We'll done
I wouldn't say it's a toy at all but a very powerful tool but as you say it needs to be used wisely. I'm certainly glad I have it
Sandy im sure you're getting fitter but i bet that new bike is much easier to push.
Yes it is a lovely bike Marty
What a beautiful place, why on earth is it called The City ? Its about as far from a City as you could get 😊
I know, I don't know why it's called "The City"?
Why did you glue the tilting head of the selfie stick? That’s why it is not filming your full body and clipping your head.
I can tell from your comment Fred that you haven't used a 360 camera before. The selfie stick has to be in line with the body of the camera, that way when the software stitches the two images (from each lens) it will remove the seflie stick also making it invisible.. I can easily get a full body shop simply by lowering the camera, I'll do it when I next use the camera
You are correct. I thought that was the reason why your body was cut off. Did it come with a selfie stick? Because you mentioned having to glue it.
Since watching your channel I have been interested in your equipment you use for video recording. Now you have the Insta 360 and you pointed out the lens can be scratched I become worried. However today this video was on TH-cam- th-cam.com/video/kDyuX_V7j-g/w-d-xo.html and it shows protective domes to help prevent damage. As the Insta 360 is too costly I am looking at an Osmo Active 4 with a BJI Mic 2 that also may interest you th-cam.com/video/BigvQfQZkdM/w-d-xo.html as the combination is ideal for a cyclist etc. At 81 I like your comment that you are never too old!!!! Keep cycling and doing what you like most, you have a long way to go yet. Thanks Sandy.
The 360 isn't as good as your normal camera in my opinion. Colours aren't as deep and the round view takes away from the overall picture quality i think. Be good maybe for certain shots to edit in with the other if u wanted to carry the two.
All things like sharpness and saturation etc can all be tweaked Marty. Overall picture quality should be very close to the gopro, I just need to learn to sue it a bit better
