From Wiltshire to the Sea and The New Forest. A 180 mile bike packing (sort of) Adventure:)

- Together with my good friend Dave we cycled from land locked Wiltshire to the south coast (mudiford nr Bournemouth) and back home a total distance of almost 180 miles and clocking up 101 miles on the return journey.
Dave rode his heavily laden Riverside 525 bike, a great bike for long distance travel at a sedentary pace, I on the other hand took my lightly loaded planet X Tempest and found the journey a breeze, what a great bike the Tempest has turned out to be, I am very happy with it.
We met up with Dave's old friend Bob and stayed overnight at Bobs bungalow.
Bob was very generous and plied us with plenty of Rum:)
You two guys should be proud of yourselves doing what you do. I love cycling and walking. I bought a bike last April. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with ME & and fibromyalgia, which got in the way of my simple pleasures. In November 2023, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Subsequently, I had an operation to remove the cancer on the 1sr Feb 2024, which appears to have been successful. However, in March, I was struggling to breathe, and after scans, they found I had blood clots on both lungs. So consequently my new bike has only done 90 miles. My mind says I can get out and go for a ride, but my body won't let me. So Sandy, I haven't written this for sympathy, but I'm just letting you know how much your videos help my mental state of mind, I feel that I'm on your journeys with you. Your videos give me a form of escape because I feel that I'm there with you. A great big thank you again for sharing your adventures with us. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is helped by you, and you never know yourself, just how much help you are to people like myself. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I wanted to say something, but finding encouraging words seemed incentive. I do hope you will be able to get back on your bike or a bike which can be modified to make cycling more comfortable for you. Just getting on a bike and riding round the block can be very therapeutic. Sandy’s channel is an inspiration to us all because he has as you probably already know overcome some serious medical conditions himself.
I believe the body is quite remarkable in it's ability to self heal but sometimes it needs a jolt and we need to believe that things will get better for us. Some would call it the power of placebo perhaps? But I have found with a good balanced diet, (I try and stay away from crappy food as much as possible and often fail), good sleep and vit D supplements my body seems to be responding positively. There is so much in this world which can compromise us but Oshi, just remember YOU have a remarkable body too that CAN self heal given the right environment and mind set. Believe in this then start out with gentle exercise and build up slowly. Doctors are not always right! Go out on an adventure, it doesn't have to be anything big, just down to the gate and back is a start, be patient, give it time and be honourable and thankful to yourself and others and that will create the environment for your body to do it's best for you.

You are fortunate to have a life-long friend like Dave. Being friends (mates as you call them) from 5 years old, and still hanging out together makes him your brother, doesn't it? Friendship being your common mother. Fortunate indeed. May God keep you together a long, long time.

Dave, you are a machine! 100 miles fully loaded on a touring bike in warm weather in hard going. My furthest day like that has been 54 miles over the Pennines and I was pretty wrecked, so good on you both 🙂

It would have been nice to have stayed in the New Forest another day or two but we both got a move on and realised we could get home in one hit. I shall be down this way again hopefully later this year

Thanks Tony, we certainly covered the miles and on the way back fully loaded with camping kit and climbing over the highest hills in Wiltshire still managed to clock 101 miles and plenty of energy left in the legs:)

As I have mentioned before, your various excursions, by bicycle or motorcycle, always fascinate me due to the trips' scenery and your visits and videography of the multitude of historical places of interest.
As an ex paratrooper I was pleasantly surprised by your short overview of Albourne and its link to the 101st Airborne Div., preparing for Operation Overlord...how I wish I could have visited all these wonderful historical places. Thank you Sandy👍🏻

No camping is the rule in England unless it's on a designated camp spot so stealthy wild camping would be the order of the day
If I knew you were coming down that far I would have popped over from the Isle of Wight to say Hi , in fact I was probably cycling around the New forest at the time .

Thanks, for me the switch to cycling has helped because hiking was causing me lots of hip pain due to a degenerative right hip, cycling is low impact and better for me and the speed seems just right, I love it:)

I wondered if you might have made it to Lepe or the old Beaulieu airfield as they have strong WWll links. Possible future destinations.
Many happy memories of The New Forest from the mid 1960's onward...the days when you could legally have a wood camp fire if you wished (everyone was more used to herding flames in those far off times)..

Thank you for another lovely video report Wiltshire Man! Lets keep doing it all the while we can to enjoy our wonderful surroundings ! At age over 77 years I 'took a tumble' off my bicycle about eight weeks ago! I had just stopped for a breather ,put my foot down through the long grass into a hidden hollow, lost balance, toppled over ! I never had a visible bruise or scratch on my outside but my inside mental condition was very badly beaten up & my confidence thoroughly 'punctured'! After a week I contacted Doctors, they suggested some sort of talking about it therapy!! I needed to do something ,not talk about it ! Seven days ago I was so fed up with myself as I was missing so much going on ,that I just dragged my bicycle out the garage , thought sod it , got on it just went into the forest & honestly didnt want to stop going even though my legs hated me I just kept needing to be out on my bike! ! Today I went out so I could visit some wild Orchids I see each year, THEY WERE THERE & SO WAS I !! I'm contentedly knackered this evening , sitting here having a beer or so reviewing my bicycle rides I'm so fortunate to have had in the past ! Tomorrow morning I plan to be up & out early, after a couple of pints of tea, to see what else is happening! Take extra care now everyone please?

New hat? I wonder why they went straight through the hillfort? At 9:39 the van changes shape!!! 16:35 Avon run road, I know it well. I lived and worked in the area for 13 years.... You were blessed with decent weather, which makes a nice change!
The van changing shape was as it past through the stitch line of the 360 camera Bry, nothing strange but does appear so:). The Avon road was lovely, a nice ride:)

Hi Chris I use the Selle TRK saddle, it has a large cutout which takes pressure away and makes longer days more enjoyable, You can buy them online for around £50 ish:)

A super adventure, thanks for taking us along with you. Being in the industrial north I have to travel some distance to enjoy scenery like yours. Usually Forest of Bowland or Yorkshire dales so it's always a two day ride and difficult to fit in. All the best mate.

Brilliant trip Sandy. You came within a few yards of my house in the New Forest. That was a great mileage over a couple of days.
