Important! Maybe not very in England, but Hot places like Florida. Hot Fuel comes off the plenum and is cooled with the Air Conditioner system Via the coil on top of the passenger (GB) intake butterfly. Hot fuel is being returned to the fuel tank. Bad for vapor lock. GM A6 unit/system. Kirby’s Book will show you a nice dress up kit for that cooling coil. Kirby is a guy in Florida that put together a comprehensive, detailed book on only “The XJS”. I printed mine at work, about 1000 pages. You've only just begun!
Hi Jimbo, just found your channel and have subscribed as I have 1989 XJS and find your experiences interesting as I've had some of the same. I look forward to future video's. Belated happy birthday!
The occasional reference to a “track day” shocks me each time. And I grew up with a TWR group A XJS on my wall. I also had a picture of an AMG 500SEC on one side of my school hymn book cover and a similarly kitted out black XJS on the other side - images I had cut out of a magazine - can’t remember who the tuner was for the XJS, but it looked stunning and way more purposeful than the Merc.
With a few too many XJS's parked in my Northern California garage, driveway and street, I am jealous of your manual gear box. We don'g worry about rust though, and its only a bit too hot for the interior a few months of the year. Great coastline and Highway 1, but no beautiful British countryside.
I've got practically an identical car and I've gone through all the same questions since I got it in 1993. It's also black but needs a paint improvement and the gearbox is my next main project for it.
Hi mate me and you are in the same boat I have a very useable 1974 xj6 needs work but like you I’ll do as I go enjoyable video fella looking forward to more 👍🏻
Hey Jim Was wondering what 5 speed do you have Tremec, Getrag ???? Can you explain why you think the diff is the problem and not the Transmission gearing. do you think the 2.88 should be replaced by a 3.54? Thanks Chris
Another great video of this superfluous XJS - looks great in black and that exhaust sounds great
She’s a beauty
When you said there’s a bit of corrosion I almost had a “hold my beer!” moment!
this car is awesome. The 5spd swap makes it a whole new beast. Nice video
Such a sleek design that Jag
The car sounds fantastic
Jim, use a heat-gun (lightly)on the corner of that mirror. My mirrors came un-glued and had a good look in there while re-glueing.

Try Gliptone Leather Conditioner and cleaner, it works great with this old style leather. I use it on my 1988 XJ-S
to protect the door where the paint chip is, look on ebay for door edge protector, its cheap enough and easy to put on.
Sorry I’ve got to ask was that the A2 you was driving down it really looks like it was the A2 to me ?
Richard Keenan ha ha, yes it is, I live in Bexleyheath so is my nearest stretch of dual carriageway. Thanks for the comment, glad you liked the video.
Jimbo's Driveway I thought it was I’m in Croydon so not a million miles away
Happy birthday, Jimbo. Too little time and too little money. Sounds like the problems we Yanks have too. SIncerrely, Christopher Charles
