My machine’s manufacturer sent out an engineer to look at the drainage problem. He connected a device, ran a test cycle and said the poor drainage is caused by user error which results in an unbalanced load. He advised to wash clothes as normal. Separate the load at the end and run two spin+drain cycles for each half. Even though the drainage issue existed regardless of load size. After watching your vid, I discovered a blockage between the kitchen waste trap and the machine’s outlet hose. Cleared and cleaned. Now running as normal. Your vid offered better troubleshooting advice than the company’s engineer!

This was such a helpful guide, I had tried everything (almost) but actually a hair pin had found itself lodged in the drain pump. I’d taken it apart already to clean the hoses and check for blocks but after watching this video I thought I’d have one more try before just giving up and buying a new one and I heard something rattle, shook it and out it came! I've started draining the filter after each wash. But the drum just starts to fill up gradually. And boy does it smell. Can't really figure out why smelly water is just appearing. If the drainage pipework is clear and not clogged up then it could be a faulty computer board or faulty pump. Check drainage pipework first for sludge, they can get clogged up. Good luck
What a great video. I got to 4:14, took my 5 - 10 min to check my issue and found a pin blocking things up. Absolutely great advice and all filters and pipes are clean now.

Thank you. Problem solved. Opening the filter (Bosch machine) was very difficult because there were enough coins to prevent both drainage at the back and opening at the front. Lots of anticlockwise then clockwise turns to shift them. I had to resort to pliers, which risked damaging the flimsy plastic handle I was turning, but I wouldn't have got in otherwise.
You are my saviour! Washing machine worked ok before the home move, then it wouldn't drain! Followed your advice and BINGO! a huge lump of limescale fell out of the kitchen sink pipe. Machine now works beautifully again. Thank you so much.
Lurgs you're a goddamn genius! I was all like "there's no way there will be a coin stuck in the filter, how would it fit through the drum". I drained it and low and behold there was an American quarter in there!!! Fixed now. Thank you sir!

my washing machine will not take in water or drain the water. starting to get tired of hand washing the clothes for me and 3 kids. it's almost half past three in the morning and i'm trying to repair the washing machine. A couple of times it has made the usual sound it makes when you start a program, and you can hear some water, but nothing happens. stands for a long time to work before it centers but without water. started with the machine filling up with water and stopped. ended up having to empty it manually and have to use the spare opener yet. Seems like your videos can help. something I really hope !🤗
Spent ages emptying the filter and checking all the hose on my machine (which is absurdly long) Hadn’t checked the trap though as it’s linked to the sink and that’s draining fine - turns out there was a sequin the exact diameter of the pipe where the hose joins the pipe work and that was causing the block. I’d assumed it was the pump and was about to order a new machine until I saw this. You saved me, as a new machine would have had the same problem! Thank you so much

Thanks to you I've located the problem. Our washing machine shares a U bend with the kitchen sink causing grease to build up along the drainage pipe coming out the back of our washing machine. Brilliant video and very helpful. Thank you.

This video just saved me so much money, I was quoted over £100 for a plumber to come investigate my non-draining Logik machine. Granted, I did flood my kitchen in the process of unclogging the drain because I didn't expect SO much water to come out of the valve on the front but that's 100% user error 😂 thank you so much!
Idk if this works for everyone but i just ran the wash on small again hoping it would clear all the water and it cleared everything so i suggest trying that first

My machine is a Hoover Nextra and the filter is only an inch or two off the floor. If I take out the drain pipe and empty into a bowl will that remove enough water to stop being flooded out when I remove the filter? Thank you.

You treasure, mine was blocked with an elastic band, needed a narrow tray from a box of chocolates to empty the water without spilling it on the floor and there it was wrapped round the impeller, these postmen leave their elastic bands everywhere. Thank you - John

With a Lamona, If you’ve done all that and still the washing machine doesn’t drain is it faulty or is there something else that would prevent it from draining?
good video, only comment I would give is to change the order of what you are doing, if it is just junk at the filter causing the drainage problem you don't need to go through all the steps before such as move out, check the U bend, check the drain hose, etc. if we have a drainage problem i check filter first as easily accessible (just put down PLENTY of towels!), then check the waste pipe (ours is the grey internal one not external) then on to things like the U bend, etc.

Thanks man. I was in denial that it could be the filter so soon after I last cleaned it out. But it turned out the culprit was a Covid-19 face mask blocking the filter and stopping the draining thing turning around. Note for all... if you’re washing and reusing masks, put them in a bag or something before putting them in the washing machine.

This video has just saved me a call out charge. I'm not in anyway the handy person type but I followed the steps in this video (blimey washing machines are bloody heavy to move!) and managed to open the bottom filter. A colour catcher sheet was stopping the machine from draining. Pulled it all out, switched everything back on and hey presto it's working fine again. Thank you so much. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Unfortunately it could be a faulty pump or a faulty computer board. Depends how old the washing machine is on whether you call out an engineer or get a new washing machine.

Should there be a small reservoir of water stored under the detergent drawer after a wash? When I remove the drawer, apart from the main chamber on the left, there is a smaller one in the right. I can just get a couple of my fingers partly down there and it’s full of water. Should it be or is there a blockage? I regularly clean the machine (every 3 months) with Dr. Beckmann Serve-It on the hottest wash. It’s in very good condition barring this issue. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!
You normally get a little water in the detergent drawer after a cycle, but if you remove the drawer there shouldn’t be any standing water anywhere, not sure what model yours is but standing water means smells, maybe that’s the design and it flushes through. If you had a blockage you’d know as you’d probably have water all over your floor
Hi thank you so much for your video. I have a Hotpoint BHWD129, the WM can’t finish the cycle like your. And when I checked there is nothing clogging it. The lights keep flashing :( what can I do with it please?
If there's definitely no blockage then possibly the actual pump has failed or there is an electronic fault on the board. Depends how old it is on whether you pay someone to try and fix or get a new machine.
Is there a video for how to drain a pump when you get this warning after a fully loaded washing machine won't drain?? Flooded my kitchen because the hint about needing a shallow oven tray was an understatement. Thankfully got the water mopped up and sorted out the pump. But I'm glad this video exists, though - really helped sort the problem

Sounds like your drainage pipework is blocked up, they get lots of sludge inside and can stink. Need to check that and clear it out.

Thank you. Problem solved. Opening the filter (Bosch machine) was very difficult because there were enough coins to prevent both drainage at the back and opening at the front. Lots of anticlockwise then clockwise turns to shift them. I had to resort to pliers, which risked damaging the flimsy plastic handle I was turning, but I wouldn't have got in otherwise.

You are my saviour! Washing machine worked ok before the home move, then it wouldn't drain! Followed your advice and BINGO! a huge lump of limescale fell out of the kitchen sink pipe. Machine now works beautifully again. Thank you so much.

Lurgs you're a goddamn genius! I was all like "there's no way there will be a coin stuck in the filter, how would it fit through the drum". I drained it and low and behold there was an American quarter in there!!! Fixed now. Thank you sir!

Had a non draining machine at my sons house. Followed your “How to” and fished out several coins, a face mask and a baby’s sock from the filter chamber. Ran the cleaner through the machine too, and it operates like new again now. Thanks.

my washing machine will not take in water or drain the water. starting to get tired of hand washing the clothes for me and 3 kids. it's almost half past three in the morning and i'm trying to repair the washing machine. A couple of times it has made the usual sound it makes when you start a program, and you can hear some water, but nothing happens. stands for a long time to work before it centers but without water. started with the machine filling up with water and stopped. ended up having to empty it manually and have to use the spare opener yet. Seems like your videos can help. something I really hope !🤗

Spent ages emptying the filter and checking all the hose on my machine (which is absurdly long)
Hadn’t checked the trap though as it’s linked to the sink and that’s draining fine - turns out there was a sequin the exact diameter of the pipe where the hose joins the pipe work and that was causing the block. I’d assumed it was the pump and was about to order a new machine until I saw this. You saved me, as a new machine would have had the same problem! Thank you so much

Thanks to you I've located the problem. Our washing machine shares a U bend with the kitchen sink causing grease to build up along the drainage pipe coming out the back of our washing machine.

This video just saved me so much money, I was quoted over £100 for a plumber to come investigate my non-draining Logik machine. Granted, I did flood my kitchen in the process of unclogging the drain because I didn't expect SO much water to come out of the valve on the front but that's 100% user error 😂 thank you so much!

My machine is a Hoover Nextra and the filter is only an inch or two off the floor. If I take out the drain pipe and empty into a bowl will that remove enough water to stop being flooded out when I remove the filter? Thank you.
It should do yes, but you will still get water out of the filter. Undo it slowly and use an old towel. Good luck

You treasure, mine was blocked with an elastic band, needed a narrow tray from a box of chocolates to empty the water without spilling it on the floor and there it was wrapped round the impeller, these postmen leave their elastic bands everywhere. Thank you - John

With a Lamona, If you’ve done all that and still the washing machine doesn’t drain is it faulty or is there something else that would prevent it from draining?
If you've followed every step then it's possible the pump is broken

good video, only comment I would give is to change the order of what you are doing, if it is just junk at the filter causing the drainage problem you don't need to go through all the steps before such as move out, check the U bend, check the drain hose, etc. if we have a drainage problem i check filter first as easily accessible (just put down PLENTY of towels!), then check the waste pipe (ours is the grey internal one not external) then on to things like the U bend, etc.

Thanks man. I was in denial that it could be the filter so soon after I last cleaned it out. But it turned out the culprit was a Covid-19 face mask blocking the filter and stopping the draining thing turning around.
Note for all... if you’re washing and reusing masks, put them in a bag or something before putting them in the washing machine.

This video has just saved me a call out charge. I'm not in anyway the handy person type but I followed the steps in this video (blimey washing machines are bloody heavy to move!) and managed to open the bottom filter. A colour catcher sheet was stopping the machine from draining. Pulled it all out, switched everything back on and hey presto it's working fine again. Thank you so much. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Hi I tried to do all the things listed from you in the video but still have the same problem. The water is not draining. I've changed the filter and I've checked the pipes. Any other solution?
Unfortunately it could be a faulty pump or a faulty computer board. Depends how old the washing machine is on whether you call out an engineer or get a new washing machine.

Should there be a small reservoir of water stored under the detergent drawer after a wash? When I remove the drawer, apart from the main chamber on the left, there is a smaller one in the right. I can just get a couple of my fingers partly down there and it’s full of water. Should it be or is there a blockage? I regularly clean the machine (every 3 months) with Dr. Beckmann Serve-It on the hottest wash. It’s in very good condition barring this issue. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!
You normally get a little water in the detergent drawer after a cycle, but if you remove the drawer there shouldn’t be any standing water anywhere, not sure what model yours is but standing water means smells, maybe that’s the design and it flushes through. If you had a blockage you’d know as you’d probably have water all over your floor

If there's definitely no blockage then possibly the actual pump has failed or there is an electronic fault on the board. Depends how old it is on whether you pay someone to try and fix or get a new machine.

Flooded my kitchen because the hint about needing a shallow oven tray was an understatement. Thankfully got the water mopped up and sorted out the pump. Either it's stuck as it's never been undone or something is wedged in there, just have to keep trying but be careful as it's only plastic
