VIDEO UPDATE ALERT 🚨 Check out how this wall is holding up one year later, answers to your commonly asked questions + my BIGGEST REGRET from this project: th-cam.com/video/VVUkBJ7yso0/w-d-xo.html
One of the most useful DIY videos I have seen. Only things different I would have done is overlapped the contact paper, glued the boards onto that using panel adhesive, painted the contact paper once it was up and painted the wood boards before they got installed.
If I were your landlord, I would cry because this wasn’t permanent. I can’t imagine anyone not thinking this was an upgrade. 😂 this is outstanding, and I’m sure your renters that are watching our measuring as we speak. I’m going to ask my husband, who is a landlord for office spaces and ask him what he thinks. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I’m not a renter so I can paint my walls but I also don’t have power tools and don’t want to buy them for one project. This is perfect for me so I can transform my baby’s nursery
Great idea! This came out awesome. I think one tip I would do is probably paint all the wood first. I would paint the wall paper once on the wall before I added the strips and then attach the wood, caulk and then do paint touch ups where needed. This way you could have lower risk of getting the paint on the wall or baseboard. But great idea. You could sell this as a kit!
The wall paper was just a brilliant idea! I just finished my board and it looks great! Thanks for also posting a "year later" video! Made me much more confident :)
So love your ideas and the renter friendly options are always appreciated. Even in someone's home, renter friendly ides can be an easier option if you are not able to do a full remodel. Love your ideas and style and attitude!!
I've been wanting to help my daughter with her new home. It doesn't have to be "renter friendly" but just incase she changes her mind. Haha. You did a great job and it looks great. You broke it down to where it would be very easy to do.
Great job Alli! I never would have thought to do this, although I am a big fan of Contac paper. I've covered the tops of play tables for my kids when they were little, and I used it for a kitchrn back splash in my first apartment back in the day. My (ex) husband was in the service and it was off-base housing and we couldn't paint or tile. Both projects turned out great, but certainly weren't as labor-intensive as yours! I would love to see more projects like this one!
YOU DID A PHENOMENAL JOB DOLL! I AM CERTAINLY DOING THIS IN MY HOME THAT I OWN... THIS MAKES A GREAT EASY WAY TO CHANGE THE LOOK OF MY HOME WITHOUT THE PERMANENT INSTALLATION OF THE BOARDS. I AM SO ON THIS! THANK YOU FOR BEING SO CREATIVE AND FOR TAKING THE TIME TO SHARE THIS VIDEO! KUDOS!
I think that is such a great idea I really was trying to figure out what can I do to that ugly bumpy lumpy wall in my rental apartment and it's at the dining room area shall I say it's an open concept but yeah I think that's a great idea I absolutely love it thank you so much for sharing and don't stop sharing cuz we are watching ☺️ and the price isn't bad at all you could probably get the paper somewhere little cheaper or what have you but the price that you shared with us that again is not bad at all that's completely doable 🥰 Continue To Stay Safe Healthy Strong and Happy Many Blessings and Much Love-n-Peace 💜☮️💯😇🙏🏾💙❣️
Fastest follow ever! Thank you so much! I am renovating my home but running out of budget insurance money so I need to do some stuff myself without tools! Love this idea!
This is awesome. I bought a new construction “builder grade” house and have been wanting to try this in my bedroom. Now I have to go look at your follow up video. Good job!
I own my home and would use this method!!! If you are anything like me, I feel the need for a change of scenery quite often. This makes it SO EASY to change, undo, and redo!
Alli, this is brilliant! I own my home, but I'm going to do this because it would be so easy to take down (no nail holes!) if I wanted to change it up! Also, if you move, I would ask the manager if he/she wants you to leave it before you tear it down, it looks so good! Yes, would love to see it done on another wall in your apt. 👍💙
I love it Alli! I want to do one so much. I just have to figure out a good wall to do it on. My landlord will let us paint, and they might even let us install board and batten permanently. I’d have to ask. Thanks for explaining all of the steps so well. I have no doubt that your wall will be in perfect condition when it’s time to remove it. Well done my friend!!
I came across this video on accident and I'm so glad I did!!! I can't wait to do this in my apartment!!! Thank you for doing renter friendly things, this kind of stuff can be hard to find sometimes ❤
New subbie…. Right after I saw your balcony transformation. I want to try this board and batten project even though I can paint the wall. Keep bringing more renter friendly projects to try. I’m really artsy crafty and always looking for new things to do!!! More boho themed ideas????
Great idea!!!! You should do the contact paper starting at the top instead of of the bottom and fight gravity!! Then just use a utility blade to cut it off at the floor trim.
THIS IS SO AMAZING!!!!! I was just looking through amazon if they carried any wallpaper that gives that exact look... but the way you got it done looks so much better and honestly I would enjoy putting this together rather than just placing an all wallpaper look. Thank so much for this video. very helpful and I cant wait to do this with my bathroom!!!
This looks absolutely awesome! I am super impressed with your math skills! I know I wouldn't be able to figure that out by myself. Seriously though, you did a great job that looks professional from my perspective. Blessings!
You are such a good teacher and what a Great idea! I would never had thought to do this. Thankyou for showing us all your DIY ideas and projects. Everything looks Great!!!
This is great! I have been wanting to do this in my bedroom now I can YA!! My 1st time on your channel you have a very enjoyable personality to watch Thank you!
I love this, esp the MATH!! I can use tutorial for my house. I’m older-single living by myself, and I find the rental-friendly projects are more manageable and cheaper, esp when you can get such great results. It’s hard for me to lift things and use power tools, so this was great. You could also title it, “You too elderly single-woman can do this --- (fill in project here). 😂
first of all, this looks so good. second, i loveee board and batten and i’ve been wanting to do this in my rental and i have no experience with power tools so i’m definitely going to have to try this out 😍
You did a GREAT job Alli! It looks amazing especially considering the limitations you had! Your landlord is crazy to not let you decorate you’d do a brilliant job but on the plus side he’s saving you money! Thank you for sharing!
You’re so adorable Alli! I love this idea so much! You should do this in your room! Like where your bed is! If you get what I’m saying lol. Anyway, always so good!
My next room to tackle is the bathroom (not the toilet room, just a room with a bath and sink). So I’d be interested to see yours even if it’s just a refresh 😊
This just gave me an excellent idea…what about this with peel and stick wallpaper and painting the boards before putting them up with a color that compliments the wallpaper.
Love what you did! I live in low income senior housing! We are allowed to use nails, but can't paint or put up lamps on the wall! Any ideas on wall lighting (scones or lanterns) that is battery operated with a controller?
Awesome! My walls are plain off white in my rental and I’m thinking what can I do to brighten it because they won’t paint it but the contac paper may just better than my painting since I’m 78 and not planning to move again also ceilings are 9ft high. I’ve always wanted a chair rail so now maybe I can do that I’m not sure but I love what you did. Thanks so much for sharing. I can’t wait to see what you do next
The removable wallpaper or contact paper is a great way to do it! And the Command strips would do a great job at holding up a chair rail. I'm glad you enjoyed 💜
That's great!! Then you can skip the contact paper step if you want, but if you do that, I don't recommend caulking around the boards, since the contact paper stops that from getting on the wall!
Bamboo sticks or sugar canes and patterned contact paper also looks very nice.Only use low temp hot glue directly onto contact paper to hold the sticks or stalks. Just re glue in future if one comes loose/off.
Love this idea! However, instead of cutting out separate pieces of paper, I'd simply go with one or two pieces (if one is too unwieldy). And good idea to change out the outlet covers - I never considered how that would look.

Finally someone who is like me, a novice with No power tools and an easy way of making a beautiful change. Thank you!!!
One of the most useful DIY videos I have seen. Only things different I would have done is overlapped the contact paper, glued the boards onto that using panel adhesive, painted the contact paper once it was up and painted the wood boards before they got installed.
To paint contact paper, would you prime?
Yes. In the end when she pulls that off I think the paint’s gonna chip off with it but… that’s an easy fix. It looks great !
Yes your way is genius
If I were your landlord, I would cry because this wasn’t permanent. I can’t imagine anyone not thinking this was an upgrade. 😂 this is outstanding, and I’m sure your renters that are watching our measuring as we speak. This method is soooo creative. It is earth-shattering. Not penicillin earth-shattering, but shattering none the less. Thanks for the inspiration.
Awesome! I'm in a small apartment and have often thought....."....if this were my place...."
I never thought board & batten could be done a renter friendly way until this! It turned out amazing Alli 😍
This definitely took a few months of planning to come up with the best way to approach it! I'm so happy with the result
The wall paper was just a brilliant idea! I just finished my board and it looks great! Thanks for also posting a "year later" video! Made me much more confident :)
I love the change. Your comprehensive instructions was completely appreciated.
Her energy makes this not look like a chore lol, this is great Alli
So love your ideas and the renter friendly options are always appreciated. Even in someone's home, renter friendly ides can be an easier option if you are not able to do a full remodel. Love your ideas and style and attitude!!
Yes! Renter/removable options are great! They're also nice if you change your mind, no commitment! Thank you so much, that's so sweet of you 💗
OMG renter friendly outlet covers! you just saved me a ton of money!
Right?! They are game changers!!
I've been wanting to help my daughter with her new home. It doesn't have to be "renter friendly" but just incase she changes her mind. Haha. You did a great job and it looks great. You broke it down to where it would be very easy to do.
Yes, I will try it! Genius move with the contact paper and hot glue!
It looks great! Grey isn't for everyone, totally get why you'd want to freshen up the look.
Thank you!!! I love gray, but it's nice to add a little extra accent
Great job Alli! I never would have thought to do this, although I am a big fan of Contac paper. Contact paper is amazing stuff! I used it for a backsplash too. I think it has to be one of my favorite renter hacks

This is what I want to do in my rental bathroom. It looks amazing.
Well done! The room looks upgraded. If I were the one letting you the apartment, I wouldn't have mind, if you'd made this permanent.
ALLI YOU ARE A LIFESAVERR! Just gained a new Sub

I'm so happy I could help! This is such a great tool-free project! I have a couple others planned in the coming weeks/months too!
Your personality is to live for . Great job
How genius of you!! Talk about creative.
Pretty smart idea. I remember my days in a rental where I wished I could’ve done stuff like this.

👍💙
Wow I am totally doing this, super smart DIY!!!
I love it! I would have never guessed this was put up with command strips and contact paper. You are amazing!
Great idea, if I rented I would consider something like this. Lots of admiration for you.
Thank you so much, your comment made my night 💜 I really tried to think outside the box with this one
So full of great information. I have been wanting to do this but couldn’t figure out how to space the battons. Now I do. Thank you!
I love your idea! and tips, not to mention
I think you did a wonderful job! Good for you! 👍👍👍
Thank you so much. I was about to do something so complicated.
Hi Alli. Great job, your enthusiasm kept me watching to the end.
Oh yes you most definitely should ask them if you can put a board and batten wall somewhere in your home! It makes such a nice statement! 💜
I am going to follow your steps in following weeks, wish me luck
Alli you are a genius, this turned out so cool! Your patience and attention to detail is outstanding. Great job as always!
I came across this video on accident and I'm so glad I did!!! I can't wait to do this in my apartment!!! Thank you for doing renter friendly things, this kind of stuff can be hard to find sometimes ❤
it looks great! I think I'll take this idea with the cornstarch covered fabric and use a patterned fabric under white battens. Thanks!
Simply genius.
New subbie…. Right after I saw your balcony transformation. I want to try this board and batten project even though I can paint the wall. Keep bringing more renter friendly projects to try. I’m really artsy crafty and always looking for new things to do!!! More boho themed ideas????
Excellent tutorial! One of the best out there!
Omg this was so helpful! Thank you so much for the details of the wall and the outlet covers.
Great idea!!!!
You should do the contact paper starting at the top instead of of the bottom and fight gravity!!
Then just use a utility blade to cut it off at the floor trim.
I can't believe I didn't think to do that! I will be sure to do that next time, thank you!
This is such an amazing idea! I, like you, live in a rented house and can't paint the walls. This is a brilliant idea. Fantastic job!
Now that I've tried this, I feel like the "painted contact paper" can have so many more applications!
I am IMPRESSED and I LOVE the outcome‼️
This looks absolutely awesome! I am super impressed with your math skills! I know I wouldn't be able to figure that out by myself. Seriously though, you did a great job that looks professional from my perspective. Blessings!
Geometry was definitely my best math subject, hopefully I explained it well enough to follow. Thank you so much too!
You are such a good teacher and what a Great idea! I would never had thought to do this. Thankyou for showing us all your DIY ideas and projects. Everything looks Great!!!
I'm glad to hear that, I was trying to make this as informative as possible! Thanks for your kind words 💜

Beautiful idea! I will reuse when I start my channel and credit your channel thank you very much!
Great work. The verticles are the “boards” and the horizontals are the “battens.”
WOW!!! Great job! I bet your apartment is beautiful!
Ty, this has all been so VERY helpful I've been considering similar concept but on a 19' X 8' Apt wall 👍👍
You did a GREAT job Alli! It looks amazing especially considering the limitations you had! Your landlord is crazy to not let you decorate you’d do a brilliant job but on the plus side he’s saving you money! Thank you for sharing!
Don't you mean the LL is saving themselves money??
@@birgip.m.1236 no! Allí is saving herself money. The landlord wouldn’t be paying and would get the benefit.
You’re so adorable Alli! I love this idea so much! You should do this in your room! Like where your bed is! If you get what I’m saying lol. Anyway, always so good!
Yes!!! I really want to, just that wall is MUCH larger 😅 but it's look SO GOOD
I’m so excited to do this in my office at work!
Wow! Impressive! You did a great job! Thanks for sharing.
What other types of decor/renovations would you like to see me do renter-friendly versions of?
renter friendly bathroom ideas are a good idea
@@ApBarr345 I do have a couple bathroom ideas planned!
I agree, bathroom reno would be nice. 😘
My next room to tackle is the bathroom (not the toilet room, just a room with a bath and sink). So I’d be interested to see yours even if it’s just a refresh 😊
Maybe too expensive, but any project using the self adhesive tile panels.
This just gave me an excellent idea…what about this with peel and stick wallpaper and painting the boards before putting them up with a color that compliments the wallpaper.
So clever!!! I’m currently renting and would love to try this !!
That looks so nice. You give me so many great ideas. Love your channel
Beautiful and ingenious!!!
Hey I love this idea....I'm definitely gonna be doing this in my room. Thanks

This is off topic but I have to say your skin is so beautiful!

Oommmgg this looks amazing 🤩 you did a fantastic job !!! Great editing as well sister !!!! I really enjoyed this video !!!!!!! 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️
I love this. I’d do this in my rental.
Glad found this video. Thanks Alli.
Yes I have been wanting to do this in my rental
Love what you did with wall.
I subscribed before watching the video lol 😆 I love this
You are an excellent renter:)
Great job!! You are very smart 😍 and yes I will try it. At least my landlord lets me paint 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
That's great!! Then you can skip the contact paper step if you want, but if you do that, I don't recommend caulking around the boards, since the contact paper stops that from getting on the wall!
You did that lady👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😍
simple to do and easy to follow. nice.
WOW! TH-cam needed this video! 👍
Thank you for sharing!! I’m definitely doing this
Bamboo sticks or sugar canes and patterned contact paper also looks very nice.Only use low temp hot glue directly onto contact paper to hold the sticks or stalks. Just re glue in future if one comes loose/off.
Very cool and simple! Great job
What type of boards did you use? They looked very thin and just what I want for my kitchen! Easy to cut and position. I loved your project! ❤ ❤❤
Great 👍🏽 idea and helpful I like it ty for sharing
Super cool great job
Oh my goodness- this is so beautiful!! You did so good. Thanks so much for sharing!
Turned out beautiful.
I love your personality
