This was the role Eric Allen Baker was born to play, close to 3 decades later and one liners from this game are still in my head rent free The compression was the icing on the cake.

I always preferred the "Die Hard Arcade" game for the saturn, ps2 and dreamcast to Die Hard Trilogy's third person segment. But I have strong memories of Die Harder Airport game. Also a fun game was Die Hard Vendetta for the gamecube with the bullet time effect short but fun game. Great rental back in the day.

This game was pretty much a killer app for Sony, every adult bought a copy - if not for the nostalgia they'd have it just because you got three 3D games that played pretty well. That shit was rare. Good review, never knew you could turn quickly in the driving game. Might have saved a tantrum if I'd known many years ago.
2:49 "Ephemeral hotdog floating away into the heavens after being collected" was what I got from this, but I think it's supposed to be disarming TNT. 4:44 The draw distance makes this much creepier than it has to be. Before the helicopter appears it may as well be that giant moth boss from Silent Hill.
@Trevelyan2 lol memories of poverty of only having this game, distinctly the first one (the third person shooter) and zombie revenge while renting a dreamcast and owning a ps1 with die hard lol simpler times. Very good video man keep up the good work! Gonna binge the rest of your vids!
Die Hard Trilogy was going to be just With A Vengeance, Probe thought a trilogy would be far better. If you look on TH-cam, some guy who worked at Probe uploaded him filming the development of the game, and it looked quite different originally, it was more a cross between a platform game with a car and Blast Corps on the N64. But, did you say your version of the game didn't work with the light gun? The PAL version certainly did, you could even get a bundle with a Walther PPK looking gun over here in the UK.
That’s interesting- Yes, I played it originally and just now both on the NAST. Light guns were under scrutiny at that time in the wake of congressional hearings and they were hard to come by. IIRC there was only the GunCon, and that didn’t work with this game.
Lots of fond memories with this game, which was also a repeat rental for me. Not-Bruce always sounded like he got hit too many times playing football. Enjoyed the review, and laughed quite a bit.

@@Trevelyan2 Ive played both... The Saturn version is a little better because it doesn't have texture warping like the PlayStation but other than that there's not really too much difference
Gonna add some bits and pieces: Die Harder (2nd Game) does support lightguns, though only the Konami Justifier/Hyper Blaster or 3rd Party Guns that can switch from Guncon mode to Blaster mode. It's doable, but pretty inaccurate due to the lack of calibration and the screen flashing to ensure accurate shots, is inconsistent and doesn't always flash when you need it to. The PS Mouse may be the best way to play this game With a Vengeance actually supports steering wheels... Sometimes...? Not that it makes the game play any better LOL
Man I smashed this at a mates place back in the day till goldeneye came out 😂 first game is the best, then 3 then 2, didn’t enjoy the in rails shooter part.
A lot of people didn’t care for that one; I’m sure it’s partly due to it being 3 different genres and that some just don’t care for one of them. Some folk can’t stand the lack of character control in the on-rails segment.
the "i think these are polygons" joke would work better as "these are DEFINITELY polygons" considering the polygons are much bigger and easier to identify as such. maybe not though cus in that case ya we know what they are so its not funny. but bothers me the way u said it for some dumb reason
Honestly, not even a joke- The 2nd game doesn’t use polygons, the characters use sprites that are scaled and stretched. I’m not sure if the charterers are rendered in the same way in die hard or not, it’s hard to tell with the viewport. There’s nothing like it on the console

I really liked the graphics in the Vengeance driving game, wish GTA 1 looked like that. I think it's a bit easier in third person.

2:49 is in fact, a hot dog! One of John’s pickups is a loud belch, which is pretty gross coupling from eating a cold hot dog encased in a box.
Remember renting this in 96. Fucking awesome surprise. Great example of a dev team saying “fuck it” and just focused on making a fun ass game.

Die Hard with a Vengeance is actually a solid game only brought down by the fact there isn't any Samuel L. Jackson one-liners.
