Loved the background and end result. I’ve always enjoyed bringing old things back to life. My family and I moved from US to Switzerland in the last year and as a result we have have biking a lot more. I’ve gained a new passion watching your videos and have been fixing up neglected bikes in the village. I’m not doing awesome paint jobs like you but rather the mechanical function. Stay well. Thanks for sharing all you do and the inspiration.
@@Boxbeat666 those would be great as the placeholders for if you try and do a job that he does. Just put em on, paint over them and boom you got your basic outline I guess. Could go further in by cutting up the stickers for layers
When I walk in to my local bike shop 8 miles from my house and past two other shops, I get greeted just like that. They see me and say my name and it really does make you feel good. I’ve bought like 8 bikes ( or more ) over the last 15 years as well as accessories. I’m a customer for life.
@@oldshovel thank you so much for what you do, and making these videos. I'm working on obtaining a 99 Gary fisher with Manitou up front right now. Trying to talk him into it :)
I really enjoy it more when you talk throughout the videos.I know this is an old video but this ASMR thing has been done to death.I find it more calming or relaxing when you're saying something.I really enjoy your input.
Excellent build and clever up-cycling of old plastic bags for the paint job! I've always had a soft spot for specialized so really good to see you do another restoration on one.
AMAZING!! restoration and build i did the same on my 2011 intense spider 26" a few months ago New paint New frame bearings and a lot of new parts very nice experience doing it your self. Again well done.
You are in for a treat when riding a legendary bike brand. I had an FSR XC Pro and it was the best ex test rig I bought from my friends who ran a bike shop for their boss. Still havd the frame but a couple of cracks on the seat tube above the bottom bracket shell means that due to the frame being aluminium you get it welded but can not guarantee it will not break again. Excellent content.
Hey, I just wanted to say that you really inspire me. I loved every built just like this one. You really do a great job every time. I once restored a bike when I was younger which was a lot of work. Now I do it again and at first I thought of taking the easy route, cleaning it a bit, adjusting the shifting and done. But you inspired me to really do something special and different. Thank you 👍
Fantastic! great video and a awesome restoration I have one of these bikes (from new) and I'm looking to give it a mechanical birthday. they are still a great MTB and should always be cared for.
"Look for opportunities to give those old things new life" i love what you've said, and it gives me energy to continue building my old bike piece by piece even if it's too slow...but thank you, and God bless💛
Sick brother, wow. Personally, I would've stayed with the matte white frame with red & blue accents. But the job you did is so custom I cannot complain!
one of your best bikes so far. nice mix of restauration and using some modern things like 1 x 10 shifting oder 4 piston brakes. very nice job. more of those good things in life...
This bike is so legit! Love it great work! I recently picked up an old xc comp and when I ride it I hear you say give the old things new life and Im planning on restoring it because it rides so good still. Thanks for all you hard work and inspiration!
Amazing build! And I liked a lot that this video was dedicated to your local shop, they must have a very nice staff! Big hug, and thanks for another video.
Ay my dude your intro is incredible, I actually work for my local shop and it’s one of the best places I have ever worked! The people there are incredible and I fully agree with you!
You have done another Bob Ross creation .I have the very same bike a 2005 bought it in really good shape with low use I totally rebuilt it and did a one by 10 ,dropper post an hydrolic breaks . its so much fun to ride ...I am in a happy place!
Generally, I'm a function over fashion type guy. But, this paint job is over the top! Absolutely beautiful! The build itself looks to be outstanding as well. Nice grouping of components. This is probably going to be an incredibly fun bike to ride! Looking forward to you hammering some trails and features with this worthy steed!
nice job. I owned a similar frame, the SX Trail it was. few downsides of the frame which can be remedied: head angle and wheelbase can be tuned by fitting a works angle-headset and off-set bushing in the damper. rear triangle can be stiffened up by using a through-axle hub and 10x135mm axle (like the DT RWS)
Love watching these retro builds, it should be a rite of passage for all mtbers, ride a beat up old bike for a few months, strip it down, rebuild and up grade, then shred. Once you can do that, you've got the maintenance skills and value the time it takes to repair. Then splash out your thousands a new carbon frame.
I'm a frequent regular at my LBS and they love me. Everytime I go there, I always buy things and the little things too, from stickers and hard ware to complete bikes. Or frames.
I still haven't figured out how you're getting such great results with spray.bike . Im spending more time sanding color than the initial strip and sand took . Spray , sand , respray , sand ,re-respray ,sand etc. etc. etc. Stuffs laying like gravel . Great job.
Incredible work. From start to finish of the build(s) right up to how you edit your videos. There are so many elements of satisfaction in watching what you do. You're a major inspiration to me and many, many others I'm sure. Thank you again!
The paint job on this is awesome really looks nice I am just building up an old school cannondale always wonted one so why I am off with a back injury I got one at a good price just waiting for some parts to turn up for the for and then it will be finished just undecided if I am going to change to paint or not yet
Awesome job! Specialialized products are fabulous from their tires, bikes, gloves and everything else. I always wanted one of these frames but never got one. Yet. 🙃 Personally, I thought the frame looked best when it was all white but obviously I didn't have your finished vision in my head. Loved what you did with the cranks. 💕 Nice of you to dedicate it to a local shop. That's very cool. 👍☮️🌞🚲
Your concept of "old" is at least a decade more advanced than my version. Hydraulic disk brakes, tubeless tires, full suspension, 1x drivetrain, etc. are all super upgrades in my world. Not a big fan of this particular paint job but do appreciate your prep, methodical approach, and attention to detail that will probably make it somewhat theft-proof. Wholly support your support of your LBS. I see the component links in the description but my one question is: What is your ballpark budget for this particular restoration? Thanks for sharing your projects with us. Thumbs up. I flip (1990s to early 2000s) bikes on a small scale and your skills are very impressive.
Please I beg you do more of those old Enduro/DH/Freeride/DJ rebuilds... I really love those old school bikes. Can you find an old Kona Stinky next? Awesome content, keep it up!!
Very brave of you to restore a full suspension bike. And what a nice job! I have tried but the cost of replacing the rear shocks and forks not to mention all the pivot bearings and bushings made me write off any such projects. Maybe full sus bikes in my area are just too abused and ridden to the ground, literally. Cracked frames, damaged rear triangles, and stripped out pivot bolts made me appreciate hard tail frames so much more. I almost always discourage new riders from buying a used full sus bike from the early 2000s because they just don't have the knowledge or the budget to revive all those moving parts. Plus the geometry is so outdated for its intended purpose, imagine doing an enduro on your rebuild? Scary. But seeing your effort warms my heart.

That’s awesome retro build !! I am considering a old school enduro as well !!
I don’t know how I feel on the yellow and grey, but the white and blue logos look sick!
Yeah I hate that
Same here. It looks weirdly dirty or something. Paintjob itself is nice, colors just don't do it for me.
Yea I was with him until that point. Honestly I would have rather just touched up the original red paint, it looked way better
i think it's suppose to look like rusty (old) but idk just my opinion, and i love it i think he made a great job with the paint. cheers
Idk what y’all are on about that is the coolest paint job I’ve seen on a bike
This is one of the best restorations I have ever seen keep up the good work man❤️
Awesome
@Ercan Özkan he restored the frame into a new bike so it still counts
Great Resto, Love it!!
I'm working since September in a bike Shop and it changed my hole life👍🏻(Grettings from germany✌🏻🇩🇪, i am 19 years old now)
Enjoyed as always. Could you do a video on how you produce your decals, they make such a difference to a resto..bon continu
Same request 🙏🙏🙏
Aliexpress has some brands . Obviously fake but it's only stickers
+1

Wow!! It was amazing! What machine! Congratulations, Rob! One more of your jewels!

Another brilliant build... I've always loved the S-Works Enduro frame shape... And the paint job really suits it!
Nicely done!
Thanks
I might have to find one now...
by far one of the best paint jobs you did so far. These marine-like logos are a killer one. great build as always

I wonder how do you know the paint layers when you're using white on white primer. I always struggled with that hence I'm using grayish primers.
Awesome results, congratulations
