Hi guys! Nice podcast! Marius from Spain (I'm romanian but in Spain here from 2004)If we let it go step by step, you don't feel the anxiety i tried it many times...If you understand why you started in the first place, it's better. I smoke weed and i sleep from ten o'clock untill 05⁰⁰ in the morning. I don't feel bad and i hata lot of energy.I wake up 2 ori 3 times during the night and i have dream all the 2..3 times...and i remember about them.I started to smoke with 27 , didn't use other drugs .., only weed ... Thank you for the information!
Imo The main real problem with weed aside from it slowing you down while you’re high is that once you stop using it you don’t feel enjoyment anymore in the normal activities that you usually enjoy. This does fade but it can take up to a couple months. Normal sober activities can’t compete with the party in your brain weed creates. This causes a psychological addiction. Going for a bike ride gotta get high first, going to the movies gotta get high first, staying in playing video games and Netflix gotta get high first, etc etc. Than once you stop you don’t enjoy those things nearly as much for a couple months and feel irritable. This is the part that needs more focus imo as many of my old friends felt this same feeling also making it difficult to let it go even just for periods of time.
That's a valid point. Probably the only downside to consuming it all the time, but this is actually not caused by THC per se but the natural hedonic adaptation of your psychology to high-end experiences. Try eating out at a Michelin-starred restaurant every day, drive a high-end car daily, and have daily sex with high-class prostitutes. And then go back to your old life. You will experience exactly the same feeling. And this is the reason why so many people are "addicted" to money. There are many ways to screw with hedonic adaptation.
I’ve been a user of cannabis for approximately 30 years, on a daily basis. I have not been able to remember a dream for around 6 years. Well, I have recently quit (about 6 weeks ago) due to going over seas and not being able to smoke. Since I had the most amazing dreams and just being able to remember them, it has moved me to quit for good. I feel so awake, so alive and alert now. I do not oppose cannabis and I’m not saying I will never do it again, but this feeling of being sober feels way better than I have felt being stoned. It’s like my new drug! Imagine that! I never imagined I would ever be at this point after being a defender and small time educator of cannabis.
I’m off weed going on two years of daily chronic use for 10 years. Sleeping for the first several months was super hard. Dreams were too gnarly. Personally, it sucks because it’s really hard for me to enjoy low stimulus activities like a hike. I just think about how it would be with some weed. I won’t relapse but it’s hard.
Damn dude! That is amazing what you just said! If I had to describe myself would basically say the exact same thing you just said! I never thought I would be saying this, but I absolutely love being clear and clean! It's like a whole new high after being stoned for 35 years. 😂
@@boblatkey7160 +1 here, stoned and drunk for 40 years and this last year completely sober. Going carnivore absolutely wiped out the desire to use anything for me
I started smoking Marijuana since my teenage, got addicted to cigarettes. Spent my whole life fighting Cigarettes addiction. Also suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with insomnia. Not until my husband recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.
Can you help me with the reliable source 🙏. I'm 56 and have suffered for years with addiction, anxiety and severe ptsd, I got my panic attacks under control myself years ago and they have come back with a vengeance, I'm constantly trying to take full breaths but can't get the full satisfying breath out, it's absolutely crippling me, i live in Germany. I don't know much about these mushrooms. Really need a reliable source!! Can't wait to get them.
Yes very sure of Dr.benfungi. They helped me too to overcome my anxieties and get to the root of much of my "mental Illness" which is all rooted from trauma, abusive relationship and a chaotic childhood and addiction. Shrooms made a huge huge impact to why am totally free today.
Congrats! I'm really happy for you that your husband decided to help you. I always admire those who beat their addiction. Knowing it's possible to fix your life knowing there's people out there that have done what I thought was impossible gives me hope I will make it through as well. Those who share their experiences don't know how much it helps when you're about to give up, it gives you the strength knowing somone who actully know what it's like to go through this tell you it's possible, it's not the same somone telling you you can do it when they have no idea what it's like, but hearing somone who knows what it's like that helps a lot since you understand it firsthand and made it out gives so much hope. so thanks for sharing.
Yes he's Dr.benfungi.Shrooms to me is a natrual healer. I know a guy who has used mushrooms in the same way and they have really helped him. mah dudes have safe trips all.
Everything disrupts your sleep. Every sleep prescription disrupts your sleep. I suffer from chronic, chronic insomnia. There is nothing that gives me restful sleep better than an indica strain of cannabis. Everything else I take I wake up more groggy. Disrupted sleep is far better than no sleep at all when you have daily work to do in a family to provide for. I don't use cannabis every single night I alternate on and off. But I need at least three good nights of sleep per week with cannabis I can get that. I've suffered immensely my entire life from insomnia and I am so glad cannabis is legal. People who criticize cannabis use for sleep usually ignore the fact that the people who are using it might be truly suffering from lifelong insomnia.
I look at it this way there is no perfect solution for everybody as a whole because we're all individuals and our bodies respond to different drugs in different ways. Doctors prescribe people drugs all the time for sleep aids even Benadryl it works for some and for others does absolutely nothing if you found something that has worked for you then continue to do it!! Sweet dreams😁
I’ve also discovered the more I work through my emotional issues the less withdrawals symptoms I have when I stop smoking. It’s not a physical response to dependency it’s an emotional dependency. Once we process the things we are numbing ourselves too the less dependency we have on any substance
@@floydoffancy the gene keys have been the biggest help in facing my issues. They have completely transformed my perspective and in so changed my “trauma” . Also knowing my human design has changed my world. Knowing how I am designed to operate has changed what I thought was traumas. It was just me not understanding myself and trying to be like everyone else. When honestly we are all very unique is how we operate in this world.
This is called the “adjustment” phase in recovery, typically happens when someone has developed enough physical coping skills so that all they’re left with is what caused them to use in the first place, such as depression, trauma, stress, etc. it’s the reason people can relapse after a year of sobriety
100% I used to be a pro stoner for years and thought I would never not smoke but I basically never smoke now. What’s changed is that I have worked through a good deal of my life’s accumulated trauma. I’ve done the work. Still going but yeah you are on point.
I'm about two weeks clean off a 20 year daily cannabis habit. I was driven to stop after recognizing how demotivated I had become over the years. The first 3-4 nights were a nightmare! 1-2 hours of sleep if I was lucky. My emotional state was in absolute shambles. But I stuck with it and I finally got some sleep, and the dreams were wild to say the least. I woke up sobbing more than once from a psychological nightmare. During the day I had to endure a huge uptick of panic attacks and much higher levels of standing anxiety than I was ever used to. Two weeks out and I am feeling much better. Falling asleep is still challenging and I had another sleepless night 3 nights ago. I will stay on my journey of recovery. One thing I have noticed is that my house is cleaner than it has been since I moved into this place 4 years ago. I am starting to see the benefits. For anyone else out there struggling to get clean, please know it will get better, and it will get easier. Keep at it!
Im about to stop it, it was a bad habit i picked up. The whole my place is cleaner now hit home for me. My place gets dirty and im so tired and the high makes me not do anything.
You need to reset your mind and your body...and that is simple....a water fasting for at least 3 days....no food for 3 days, just water....all your body will regenerated
I stopped smoking weed 1/1/22, after smoking at least once per day for 40 years. I wanted to remember what not being high felt like. Sleep was very challenging. It did get better after 4 months and my dreams are so interesting. The fear of not having wed is worse than actually not having it. I have nothing against it, for me the time was up. I am enjoying a clean life ..... I highly recommend it.
@ it’s well worth it my friend. All you need to be concerned about is today…. One day at a time. In a couple of weeks you will start to see what real sleep is like. Your dreams will be off the charts and you will remember most of it… Enjoy the ride.. stay strong.
Ive been smoking daily for about 6 years untill one day I decided to stop just to test how it affects my sleep, it has been 10 months, I stopped smoking and drinking completely - sleep is by far the #1 factor to bettering my quality of life in literally every aspect that matters to me.
My own preferences and circumstances aside, it's great to hear people discussing the different aspects of weed without trying to promote or denounce it.
Having been a shift worker for 20 years my sleep is generally awful. I'm 43 and have recently started using a tiny bit of cannabis a few times a week. Having never smoked before I literally only need two or three inhalations. The relaxation and quality of sleep I get has been a revelation. I had forgotten that it was possible to sleep so well and feel so refreshed. I love Matt but I don't think this discussion covers the whole picture of how cannabis effects sleep.
@@novelaego2404 You do realize that you get most of your REM in the later cycles of sleep? By then, there is no more THC in your blood. Educate yourself before commenting with non-sense. His subjective "revelation" is valid and makes sense according to science. I don't understand the motivation of uneducated brain-washed people to spout non-sense just because "drugs are bad, mkay".
People like this always create a crisis and then attempt to provide a solution. The problem is, there is no crisis, only the ones they create. Milk is bad, coffee is bad, eggs are bad, blah, blah, blah. It’s getting old.
It won't effect your sleep if you stop 4 hours before going to sleep. You need to understand that these "scientists" always have an agenda because they need to publish papers that report "successful" experiments (i.e. the result is always the expected outcome that confirms their hypothesis) to get research grants. Have you ever seen a paper that said "We tried this, but our experiment failed to show any conclusive results. We have wasted our time and our research grant". No, because they would not receive another research grant. The problem is already how they set up the experiments. They are designed (and manipulated if required) to "succeed". Their results are not transferable to the real world. THC leaves your blood after 2 to 4 hours. Your first sleep cycle spends the least time in REM, which increases with the duration of sleep. Your body also couteracts any missing REM by entering the REM phase earlier and staying longer in the REM phase. The reason you usually only remember the most recent dream when you wake up is because when you wake up after 7.5 to 9 hours of sleep, you have spent the most time of REM in the last sleep cycle(s). This is basic sleep information that any self-respecting sleep scientist must know. Now think about it. How much is your REM going to be affected if you consume cannabis 2 hours before going to bed? You might not get any REM in (the shortest REM phase of) your first sleep cycle. So what? By the second sleep cycle (each cycle takes about 1.5 hours) you will get the full REM phase (which will start a bit earlier and be a bit longer) in each sleep cycle where the REM duration keeps increasing with each cycle. Sleeping an additional sleep cycle (i.e. about 1.5 hours longer) would compensate for any lost REM at the beginning of sleep even if you consume cannabis just before going to sleep. See how I completely disproved the hypothesis of the sleep scientist when it comes to the real world effects of cannabis with regards to sleep? Which self-respecting sleep scientist does not understand this simple logical conclusion based on basic information that anyone can loop up in 10 mins?
I love that they deliver the information clearly and professionally without judgement. They even mentioned that indeed there are people that consume it and are productive with good jobs and perform well. I hate it when I go hear/read information about a subject and all people do are judge and demonize everything instead of providing actual useful information.
My life's hit a massive roadblock I've lost my business and my girlfriend in the same week, I've been watching your videos to find inspiration and get back on track, I've smoked daily for 20 years now, it's time to make a change. Thank for your great work
I stopped using marijuana a few days ago and the amount of anxiety that I have been experiencing is a lot, considering I have never been the anxious type, coupled with the vivid dreams. Also, the quality of sleep has gone down to less than 4 hours, from an average of 7.5 hours a night. However, I am taking it a day at a time and I know I will conquer in the long run.
Coming from a long time user, that disruption in sleep is normal at first. It only lasts two-three weeks typically then your regular sleep schedule comes back. The issue is that you suddenly deprive your receptors of thc which they were so used to having to put you to sleep easily. Those receptors just need to reset. Personally, my sleep suffered as a result of cannabis use. I’d sleep long hours but I never felt refreshed and had permanent bags under my eyes until I stopped smoking and returned to normal sober sleep. That only started after a year of smoking multiple times per day every day though.
@@stepthakid what’s always helped me is giving myself a little routine to fall in to. Like brushing your teeth, wash your face, lay down in a cold room and read for a while or something. Doing that repeatedly trains your brain to fall asleep faster. Benadryl helps too 🤣
Like anything else, moderation is the key. Keep it to a couple times a month, once a week at most. It’s something to look forward to, and enjoy occasionally.
Moderation in dose as well as frequency. Took me over a decade to realise I only need a third of a toke to get the optimum, relaxed, non paranoid, functional buzz that I enjoyed.
It is very Beneficial for dealing with pain. These guys talking probably haven't smoked in their life. Everybody is different. They can put that in their studies also. Sorry I just thought I would throw that out there for the scientist. It does not affect my sleep It does not affect my sleep. If anything it makes it better.
As a person that used to smoke everyday 3-4 times a day and usually right before bed I couldn’t agree more with what their saying, I quit over a month ago and for about a week it would take me an hour to go to sleep but that changed thankfully and now the dreams during my REM sleep are intense, mostly just wired vibes but one nightmare where I woke up and went on my phone to forget about it, but just last night I had a wonderful lucid dream where I was flying through my house. It’s crazy how much my brain is taking advantage of me not smoking anymore and making me dream, and my sleep quality is definitely better, I can sleep for less hours now and still feel like I got 8-10 hours for sleep if I was smoking.
I believe I’m at that point where I sleep 10 hours and still feels like 4. I’ve been smoking for 17 years. I believe it’s time to at least give a sober brain a try for once. Quitting today.
@@jonathantoruno6169 quit a few days ago after a breakup. In this together bro. Sleep has absolutely been better, even though it does take a while longer to sleep.
I've been a super light sleeper my entire life and falling asleep has always been a challenge. When I first start smoking regularly, I would tell people "it just helps me sleep, it's wonderful!". It wasn't until I had to quit and clean out for a drug test that I realized the issues pot had caused me. Like this video describes, the REM sleep/dreams after I stopped were intense... but that's assuming I could even fall asleep. For 2 weeks sleep was just me lying in bed tossing and turning, wide awake, realizing "wow I legit need weed to fall asleep now... this sucks..." It does go away, but it's aggravating to get through when you first stop using. All that said, just speaking for myself, nothing destroys my sleep like alcohol. Sure, it'll knock me out when it's time for bed, but then I'll frequently wake up through out the night. At least with weed I was actually falling asleep and staying asleep, even if I wasn't getting REM sleep.
The best sleeps I get are when I have had lots of fresh air and exercise during the day, a warm bath or sauna before bed and no drugs or alcohol during the day. Window open, no AC. Liver or oysters for dinner too.
If youre trying to stop smoking, I think youre so brave. It takes real courage to even consider it, and bravery of a lion to go through it. You are brave and strong. Way stronger than anything your body or brain tells you. The frustration of not smoking is temporary, and by going through with it, you can finally achieve everything you wanted for yourself and the ones you love. It starts with a simple "NO" to yourself, and reitterating that over and over, until you dont feel the need to tell yourself no anymore. Its that simple, find your inner voice and start saying no. No matter the storm inside and around you, your inner voice is stronger. NO I SAID: NO
Some will read your comment and laugh.... other people, right here at the right time, will read it like it was posted for them to read. Thanks for the reminder and shot of positivity.
I smoked a very long time, I did it to escape myself when younger then it turned out to be a “habit” a crutch I would use as a excuse from spiritual connection to relaxation. I can honestly say there is nothing like a clear mind, the feeling in my mindbody the sleep, them skin revitalization, the healing of my emotions is nothing a toke can take me to. I don’t regret using it as I did back then as it served a purpose, but that too has passed. I stopped drinking at 29 well over a decade and shortly after that smoking cigarettes and then the grass. Nothing like being pure as when I was born. The last one was harder to quit but the universe dealt me a deck of cards where literally over night I gave it up after decades. We are powerful beings when we focus and discipline our energy and thoughts.
I grew up in a war zone, basically had no childhood, had a rough life, immigrated to USA at 14, had a rough life trying to learn English and adapting to American culture, and how materialistic kids were in school. I have anxiety and high level of stress, some might call it PTSD, anyway, I sleep about 2 to 3 hours a night and it really sucks. So once a week I take couple of hits on Saturday night and I wake up Sunday at 10am. I have been doing this for couple of months now, AND I wish I had done it years ago. It has helped me!
I hear ya. I havnt grown up in a war but ive had insomnia and night terrors all my life way b4 weed. Weed helps me sleep too now and feel well rested overall!
I'm 61. I was a bad sleeper from about the age of 8 or so. By bad I mean an excessively light sleeper. The basic rule for me was, if I had been asleep for four hours or more, and I woke up, I was done sleeping for the night. I simply could not go back to sleep. At 14 I got high for the first time. It didn't take long for me to discover that on any of the days that I got high, I slept like a baby. I woke up refreshed and fully recharged. Through the years there were many times that I quit marijuana for long stretches, and usually about two weeks into my cessation in smoking pot, my sleep issues would return. I have never been a heavy pot user, and only rarely have I used pot as a sleep aid to get to sleep. If I have have two nights in a row where I have not slept well, I will take one tiny hit of pot before bed, and I am usually asleep within ten minutes and sleep the full night. I do not need to smoke pot every single night. It seems that as long as I get high two or more times a week, my sleep pattern is good. I have found that pot enables me to easily manage my sleep. My use of pot has never increased over 46 years. While I do enjoy getting high for the recreation aspect, it has always felt like a wonder drug for me in terms of sleep.
I am 63 and agree with all you say. I NEVER smoke during the day, and try to have 2 or 3 nights off a week, those are the crap sleep nights . The other nights I sleep like a baby and still get the occasional dream recall early morning.
This had me totally confused I use it for sleep I take a tincture every night and finally can sleep throughout the night Wake up feeling great every now and again I might take something during the day but I'm not on a normal
I’m 60, and I started smoking pot again in 2018, after it became legal. I have 2 fused disc’s, and another that I could have surgery on at any time. Since using CBD’s during the day, and smoking at night, I’ve gone from a constant 6 on the pain scale, to a 4. For me, CBD, and THC, have been a wonder drug for me.
I'm retired military combat veteran. I do not smoke or consume alcohol. I'm still very physically fit, but I have ptsd and insomnia. Prescription medication for insomnia does not work for me. I tried cbd/thc consumables and I am finally able to sleep and get the much needed rest. This is my personal experience. I only take them on the week days and do not use on weekends.
Valerian root and magnesium before bed during the quitting phase helped me immensely. The payoff is that when you get back into dreaming, you can go lucid, and the 'high' you feel after waking up is far, far greater than the high before bed.
I'm down to one 5 second hit from a pen a night. I'm so terrified of quitting (again) that I'm planning on cutting my use down by one second every two weeks lol. When I was drug-free for a ten-year period, I frequently had wild, creative, memorable dreams, and I miss dreaming that intensely. I suspect I'll feel better in the day too if my sleep is more complete. But I dread making the leap to sober sleep again because sleep was so hard to come by until I picked up weed again. Maybe I'll try valerian root and magnesium this time. Thanks for the tip.
Man I feel you. I had to seriously retrain myself on how to fall asleep naturally. Even now just to make sure i don't get dependent, I'll do 2 days on, 2 days off or just skip a night here and there. Get that Valerian and mag, it'll help.
dude ZMA and valerian root are sleep magic. dreaming is so crucial to a healthy brain i cant wait to quit drinking so i can enjoy the full benefits of good sleep
This is an old clip and I doubt Andrew will see it but here’s my attempt. I am a medical marijuana patient due to my neurological condition. As a daily user and one that has tried both edibles and the inhalation, I have notice that the long lasting duration of edibles have indeed affected my sleep. However, inhalation might be a different case. I think there are many variables that perhaps have not been noted by the studies or can serve as future notes for future studies in regards to consumption of cannabis and its effects on sleep (could be me assuming since I do not know what exact studies they were referring to, however, this take is going to be based on what I have read from the literature). The first one, I have already stated and it’s the categorization of inhalation and edibles. Edibles seem to be more probable to affecting REM and overall sleep due to its high and long lasting affects. However, inhalation does not. At least in my anecdotal experience. Which comes to my second point/variable. Which is, if inhaled how far apart did the patient or general consumer intake marijuana before going to sleep. This seems very crucial since inhalation is well known to have a pretty short to moderate duration, specially for daily consumers. And if the consumption occurs two or more hours post intake, than there could be a case made that the effects would be diminished to the point that perhaps it does not have an affect on sleep. (This seems to be my case since I do regularly dream and feel pretty well rested the next day). Thirdly, is the method of inhalation. In order to simplify it, we could categorize it into combustion and vaporization. I know that for both there are different mediums of usage such as bongs, joints, etc… - for combustion, and dry herb vaping, cartridge, dabs, etc.., for vaporization, which should individually be studied. But predominately, they both do not stray away from these two categories (combustion/vaporization). I allude to this because there is probably an interference of carcinogens specially for combustion. Which arises the question of, how much does carcinogens affect sleep and if so, will it be a major component for those that strictly combust their material. In addition, higher levels of cannabinoid and terpenes concentrations can be seen from vaping, which leaps into my fourth and last point/variable. The categorization of cannabinoids and over simplification of the plant in studies. I do not think we will get any close to a proper answer of marijuana affecting sleep if we keep hyper focusing on THC,CBD, and other cannabinoids individually, when the plant is not solely composed of such. In my experience the greatest affect is followed by a strain that is composed of a good percentage of terpenes incongruent to a good percentage of THC to give what is known as the “entourage effect”. Yes, THC can be isolated and solely consumed but trust me when I say nobody does as such nor desires too since it does not provide a well rounded “high” or “medicinal effect”, but seems to be a trend in studies to do so. It most be crucial for studies to use flower or concentrates that arise a good percentage of cannabinoids and terpenes (since it is what most consumers will be looking for or consuming) and examine the particular strain they are going to be utilizing and what terpenes/cannabinoids make up such strain in order to start mapping its effect as a group rather than individually. Not to say that each cannabinoid or terpene should not be studied individually to properly measure its affect and it’s properties, but it’s just very unlikely for individuals to be consuming isolated cannabinoids.
I absolutely love thc for sleep. Have had insomnia since I was really little. I have absolutely crazy vivid dreams and THC calms these down to where I don't feel like I've been through an insane movie all night.
This is great. In my opinion coming from my own experience you could classify chronic marijuana users as addicts. The quality of sleep you receive while constantly being high during sleep gets worse as time goes on, especially once you start to need more like you said to get those same sleep effects from THC. Leads to abuse because you are chasing that deep sleep constantly, you are convinced it does you good. After removing Marijuana the quality of sleep has improved after the insomnia stage which can be very aggressive. The dreams following are very aggressive and vivid as well. Eye opening. Great video
I agree with you 100 percent. As a daily (trying to make it not ) consumer I've found weed to be a double edged sword. Yes it defiantly helps me with my adhd in small amounts at least enough to make me want to lie down. but after i overpass a certain threshold I feel as if it is MUCH harder for me to get up in the morning. Almost as if i didn't sleep at all , Its become more of a dependence to its effects than an after work relaxation.
@Tony Camaj I agree. But I also believe that if you smoke cannabis for sleep. You have to make sure you get at least 8 hours of sleep. It will knock you out that's undeniable, but if you use weed for sleep and don't get enough of it. I think you're just wasting the potential of the plant, if you're trying to use it for sleep at least
I smoked for 25 years plus and I stopped without any real side effects and after a few weeks I didn’t even want it. As for dreaming I had a dream that I realised I was dreaming and now I just don’t dream at all. It’s how it effected my relationships and working life that really made me wake up. I would say it’s far less addictive and harmful than smoking or alcohol but it isn’t without its risks. 😊
I met a friend this morning whose wife is a total insomniac. She is now sleeping like a baby since she started taking CBD Oil, REM or no REM, her health and well being have improved so much.
This is my experience: I have been sleep deprived my entire life. My first memory is of me crying in my crib because I couldnt sleep. It's been a lifelong struggle. I have been through all the treatments and drugs, including meditation. NOTHING EVER WORKED!!! Not for long at least. Then my buddy gave me a big bag of weed. My entire life changed for the better. I sleep almost every night, usually once a month I will still have issues, but that used to be two, three nights a week! I feel rested, and still see dreams which means I am in REM sleep. I have used it now daily for 25 years, and will continue to do so for the rest of my life. I am so grateful for it. I really can't find a single negative thing about it. As for addiction, I have taken long breaks when I travel abroad and found that one or two days of light moodiness is all that I get. Then back to my normal, sleepless self. Here is what I do for sleep: Take one 10mg gummy after dinner. Then around 8pm, smoke a bowl, and right before bed I take another edible. Then off to dreamland I go. I generally do not smoke during the day. I found that can easily become a daily thing so I made sure that I keep it for what it is for me, a wonderful coziness inducing sleeping aid. I have since convinced my very conservative mother to take edibles before bed and she is also happy with the results. I get my insomnia from her. I can't recommend the stuff more. It has been nothing short of a miracle for me.
Well done you ! Any sleep is surely better than no sleep. They never mentioned all the 1,000s of folk that take pharma chemicals to get to sleep. I tried them a couple of times and felt crap the next morning. A few tokes 2 or 3 hours before bed and I sleep like a baby. PS I generally have 2 or 3 nights off a week, just let nature take its course, and those are the nights my sleep is VERY interrupted and I wake up too early.
@@kobalt77 that’s great. I too was given pharmaceuticals for sleep and got horrible night terrors. Insane dreams and woke up like I didn’t even sleep at all. Groggy all day. It was the worst. I’ll stick to mother nature’s medicine for this one..
@@alivonal7442 Yes, sleeping pills are worse than weed and or booze. In the video I don't think they mentioned folk that have difficulty sleeping or folk that are older. I am 63 and I know our sleep gets worse as we get older. So as I said, surely a good solid sleep with, is better than interrupted sleep without. Best wishes to you !
@@kobalt77 With the caveat that everything is "chemicals" (not just pharmaceutical drugs), I would say that sleeping pills are definitely to be avoided if possible, and minimized if not. Any sleep is better than no sleep, for sure.
I have anxiety which keeps me up. I started taking edibles and I was able to fall asleep but it was hard to feel like I got good sleep (what was said in the video)… I’ve definitely gone weeks without taking it where I don’t really miss it, but then once I start having a hard time sleeping I take it again. My approach is, it’s WAY better than whatever medication I would be prescribed.
I’m in complete agreement with you….Indica helps really good deep painless dreamless sleep. From a proper medical cannabis clinic on a private prescription 👍👍👍👍 the only thing that disrupts my sleep is NOT TAKING IT and as that bloke said linking it to alcohol …how dare he? There is no comparison between them….and Street cannabis is not the same tried before getting a prescription but because it’s always different strengths different plants, different suppliers who may lie about strength, you never know what you gonna get which strain of plant and is highly likely to disrupt sleep. During day I take pure sativa during night pure indica…or that’s what suits me.. and I’m sick of people dissing it. It’s magic if you can get it…! Good luck I hope you can find a clinic and you’re allowed it in your country 😊
Thank you for posting this, and delivering the science without judgement. I have cPTSD, and I suffer from night terrors. I have a script for medical marijuana and in my personal experience, it has been a Godsend as far as sleep is concerned. Without it, I experience nightmares from which I cannot fall back asleep at ALL, and will spend the rest of the night in a state of anxiety. For someone like me, a night of non-REM sleep is more restorative than a night spent awake in a state of heightened anxiety/terror. If there were only a way to experience the benefits of REM sleep without dreaming...
i can't get it legal, but i too got cPTSD and night terrors. So bad that i get anxiety just thinking about sleeping in the same bed with anyone. Just hard to expain why i from time to time start yelling "don't die" or something in the middle of the night. Tbh i wish i could just get stoned every evening but you know, where i live that's called an addict so ssri's and sleeping pills is what i get. It sucks, feel half drunk when i wake up at times.
@quarteracreadventures855 Look into imagery rehearsal therapy and other treatments for nightmares/night terrors. They really can change the life of someone suffering from those.
Same boat. Used to wake up, sit straight up, and scream like I was in a battle due to PTSD night terrors. Suppressing the dreams with THC has allowed me to actually sleep and I wake up feeling refreshed and ready to go. This has let me lead a successful life that would not be possible if I was still suffering those dreams. For someone that doesn't suffer PTSD heavy THC could impact the quality of their sleep, but it's a godsend for those that suffer.
I used to have night terrors with sleep walking and pseudo seizures. It has been 12 years of clobazam and weed and I'm almost off the clobazam. I'm not sure if I can handle the vivid dreams again or not. 1 thing at a time.
Same with me. I first started using for an eating disorder in high school and it helped immensely with appetite and with anxiety. I was diagnosed with c-ptsd and went down the road of prescription anxiety and depression medicines, which opened up a whole other can of worms and caused bad side effects. Cannabis is the only thing to help with the night terrors. I have been consuming everyday for over 15 years to avoid these night terrors. The only week I ever stopped was on a vacation and I had a horrible flashback. Cannabis can help so many people if they just ignore the misinformation and fear mongering like we see in this video.
Having smoked marijuana fairly solidly for the last 5 or 6 years, using it before bed will 100% have you feeling groggy in the morning and most of the day. I have started limiting it and not allowing myself to smoke within 3 hours before going to bed and it’s honestly a world of difference. The first week is the worst you will wake up sweating in the middle of the night but once you get over the insomnia it’s worth it
@@willthomas7666 dunno what to tell ya man, lucky? Some people probably don’t but I know me and everyone I know that smokes weed get night sweats and insomnia when trying to sleep without it for the first week or so.
@@Alex-os4pn really? I've never heard that in the ppl that I use to smoke with either, im sure it doesn't affect everyone the same, but I think it's not that severe for most ppl, prob alittle sleep disturbance at first but nothing crazy for most
I've been growing/smoking weed every day for years and smoking about 250mg per day of THC, and I never dream. I only dream if I quit for about 24 hours.
I’ve struggled falling asleep since I was a child. At 43, I got a medical marijuana card and started vaping THC every night to fall asleep. I never had a problem staying asleep. I went from 3-6 hours of sleep each night, to 7-8 hours. I feel much more rested and my brain seems to be functioning more efficiently. I do not remember my dreams. I’m sure I still dream because my wife will occasionally tell me that I was talking in my sleep. It seems to me that since I would only feel high for an hour or so, that any sleep after that should be good quality sleep. Is that not the case? Was I better off sleeping 3-6 hours without the 💨, vs the 7-8 that I get with it? I certainly feel much better now.
yeah idk i've never had sleep issues and I smoke every night over a decade. That being said I have noticed other negative effects from overuse so I am not recommending it based on my anecdote.
I dont use it for sleep but it sure makes me sleepy too. Only way to find out...quit for 2 weeks and see what happens to your dreaming. If you get crazy dreams it has been supresing your REM and there is your answer
@@hectorrivas9378 yeah totally thats why i made it a point to say mine is an anecdote. Anyone who has smoked with others can see it hits people different. Some people cant even like it
I've been taking various forms of thc/cbd lately, took a small break recently and now have severe insomnia. Since I stopped, it is taking me hours to fall asleep at night, brutal. This really helps me understand why I've all of sudden experienced insomnia.
I've been using the melatonin gummies from Olly but instead of the two-as the label says-I take 4. I don't take them every night as it seems when I quit taking them for a week or two, they work better. If there's some stressful stuff I'll take them for a week or so but I alway stop for awhile to because it's a good thing to fall back on if need be. Btw, I don't take sleeping pills of any kind as they've always scared me. Especially Ambian. I have a couple of friends that get the prescribed and I want nothing to do with that stuff.
Dude, marijuana makes your brain amp up your anxiety levels with some people. If you can't calm your brain down, you're not going to sleep. Try not smoking within 2 hours before bed..
i snowboard a couple times a week and lift weights on the other days and I am always tired enough naturally to fall asleep with or without weed, maybe be more active😂
I’m four days sober from a weed vape pen addiction, dreams have definitely been intense, but it’s encouraging. This video and the comments have been super helpful. Thank you.
As someone who's smoked everyday for 6-7 years and took a 1+ year break, it definitely affects sleep. It blocks your REM sleep which makes you forget any dreams and you wake up less rested because a lot of your 'energy' is rejuvenated during REM sleep. Honestly anyone who's smoking everyday should go cold turkey as best you can for as long as you can and restart with managing, so every other day and go for another cold turkey session a couple months or even years later.
It is refreshing to hear individuals engage in constructive discourse regarding the various aspects of cannabis without feeling the need to either promote or denounce its use. Such discussions allow for a more nuanced understanding of the plant's potential benefits and drawbacks and enable individuals to make informed decisions about its use.
After smoking for about 5 years and having to quit to enlist into the military, I can definitely say from my point of view it affects sleep. I can't remember a single time when I would smoke and go to sleep where I would have a dream and now ever since I quit I've had dreams every single night
Same here. I smoked heavily for the better part of 15 years. I never had dreams during that time. I quit just over 3 months ago and within a couple weeks I was having weird, memorable dreams. I actually look forward to going to sleep now because I know I'll be having those weird but enjoyable dreams. Sometimes I'll wake up in the middle of the night, or around 3;00 AM and almost immediately fall into a weird dream, waking up only a couple hours later. Life is so much better without weed.
@@jt8251 yeah same here! Sleep feels more refreshing too! I dont feel sloggy and tired when i get up and now every night i go to sleep i have dreams. Even if it's a short nap or i get awaken. Everytime i fall asleep i dream about something. Hell last night i had maybr 4 or 5 dreams that i can remember.
Just don’t get too high before bed. Don’t smoke or ingest thc 4 hours prior to sleep. I dream heavily every night and smoke almost every evening. Chronic thc use is a whole different story then moderation. It doesn’t always have to be all or nothing in this life.
I love how emotionally intelligent the world is becoming 2023 is the year we get humanity back I love alll the non bias information being spreaded so people can make informed decisions about their life everyone go hug someone you love today we in this together!
I smoke every morning, through the day and before bed and I wake up ready early every morning. If you took it away for 2 weeks it would be hard on sleep and anxiety for a few days but I would be good and either way financially stable and happy. If that's addiction then fair enough.
Thank you for making this video. I had my suspicions about THCs effect on R.E.M. sleep form personal experience. I have just stopped consuming cannabis and have started dreaming again. Well worth it.
I've been having about 60 mg of decarbed weed about 1 to 2 hours before sleeping, everyday, for the past year due to a respiratory allergy to a few things that don't let me sleep, and I feel great. I experienced the lack of dreaming since the very beginning, for a year, but that changed after I moved to a bigger and well ventilated room and began using an air purifier. Now even if I have 3 times the dose (for fun), I dream everyday (2 months now). I'm pretty sure that oxygen and the quality of air has a lot to do with dreaming. I hope this helps someone. Stay healthy.
@@blink182bfsftw I'm not trying to convince or sell anything to anybody. I'm just reporting my subjective experience in hope to be useful to someone; you can just ignore it and continue with your happy life. 😁
This is an interesting point. I sleep next to a window and depending on the season, I will sometimes keep that window open at night with a fan exchanging air in my room. I never thought about it tell now, but I do have more dreams when the window is open. I have great an air filter in my room, but maybe being fresh and cool helps as well.
I used to smoke all the days of the quarantine time. The firsts joints was amazing. I’ve got hungry, happy and of course very high. But in a few months the tolerance that I created with marijuana makes this feelings not like the same as the start When I decided to stop using for a time, I got incredible dreams and even tough sleeping paralisys for 2 times that for a long time I haven’t seen before A advice for everyone: use it with moderation
Weed made me lazy in high consumptions... But in small doses it made me super organised, the problem is keeping it to a minimal ... When i came off weed completely i started sleeping really well and woke up without feeling dazed and felt more "rested". The month i went without smoking made me feel great unfortunately i ended up going back but now i know the difference it makes so i will be coming off it again soon 🙃
No. It stops the nightmares and keeps the pain away. It helps me sleep. Not remembering dreams is important for people with PTSD because they are horrifying.
I’m literally detoxing heavy dependency on high potency concentrates from marijuana. I’m struggling with the insomnia right now however I know it takes a few weeks to readjust. Thank you for this wisdom it’s cements the fact that I want to stop I’ve been struggling with this my whole life
Hey man - I’ve just stopped my insomnia cycle. I took something called 5HTP which converts to melatonin. Took me about a month but I’m finally sleeping properly now. Cut out caffeine alltogethwr helped too. Find the route of the problem - mine was stress with work. Take care and I hope you get there. Il pray for you - it’s horrible I know.
Let me chime in with my 5 cents: I'm 39. Around the age of 23 I started getting "dreams". Not just any dreams. But dreams that are so emotional and exhausting that I'd wake up physically and emptionally drained. The whole day is crippled then. I'm just not the same guy. I prefer to live a sober life. But smoking weed at night reduces the chance of those disturbing and draining dreams and gives me (not always) more deep sleep. In 17 years I haven't figured out a way to guarantee a peaceful sleep.
I'm totally with you I have very bad nightmares if I don't smoke Marijuana. As long as I do smoke before bed I have zero nightmares so I think I'll stick with smoking instead of waking up every couple gours covered in sweat bc of the crazy dreams I have.
@@matthewanderson2538 Im totally here. What they said is also true, I experience intense anxiety at the thought of not having Cannabis. Signed up for a substance abuse class through the VA just because I need a tolerance break but I am terrified of the nightmares.
Blackout the lights, a very cold room, a dog sleeping next to you. Trust me it will solve all your problems. Your body will respond and feel safe because the dog is near you, the lights being completely out (i.e so dark you can't see anything with your eyes open) will remove distractions and the cold room will accelerate your sleep timeline. I would also add weed before bed to relax (pick the right strain) but well these guys saying its bad so whatever
@@blablablaa14 - Got all of it covered. But what you said applies for better falling/remaining asleep. It will not free you from traumatising dreams. Like I said its been many years and I tried everything
Ok so are the benefits from Cannabis worth the side effects? I have PTSD and anxiety but the VA won't issue drugs, because of the addiction and abuse potential. So Instead of dealing with them just to get some benzos or something, I grow some weed. Edibles have saved my life in a way, because I can actually get sleep.
I've been smoking daily for around 6 months and I don't deny I seem to be addicted, however I quit every once in a while for 1-3 days and I do okay. What usually happens for me and my girlfriend is that we feel extremely bored with lack of motivation. Eerything seems uninteresting and sometimes this leads me to reflect on things and many times unlocks my creativity and self expression. Regardless of how much positive you get from something, abusing it will get you to the negative side.
Good article, I’m a 75 y.o. male , in fair condition but have some osteo.arthritis ,(neck and spine) which can disrupt sleep. Edible THC has helped me sleep for a few years now with no apparent down side. i.e. sleep all night , no hangover, what more can I ask? Alchohol on the other hand knocks me out only to become wide awake around 2a.m. and hard to go back to sleep and then and if I had more than I should end up with a hangover. By the way I do restrict my use THC use to 3 nights per week, as I suspect that THC tolerence occurs and I want a clear head for work.
The key is responsible, moderate use, tho sadly for many its not that simple. There also many other known(lesser) and unknown cannabinoids that play an important role in the affects these components have on our nervous and peripheral systems, especially when they work together or the 'entourage affect'. There have also been studies that suggest THC and CBD efficacy is greater and even safer(less addictive or negative side affects) to use when mixed with other cannabinoids, terpenes or other variants of such. How the plants are grown, maintained(pesticides a big one), fed, their mediums etc and extraction methods(types of products and consumptions) play a massive part in the negative affects most talk about. But of course we have limited knowledge on these sorts of things and will for who knows how long unfortunately. Also, most retailers(local and online) "should" be able to provides the lab results for each product, or at least have a batch code for you to reference online so that you can see what all was detected in the product.
I 100% agree with responsible moderate usage. Sadly, 99% of the people I know who use are not moderate about it. Bong rips for an hour is not reasonable, a couple if you have a very high tolerance, sure. Then there are dabs..... I shudder at even the idea of those. It's just way too much like meth smoking... And smoking meth is the #1 way people get horribly addicted to it. (IV is more addictive but, less people start out that way.) Weed has gotten so insanely strong and people are smoking in like it's the weed from decades ago that was at most 1/4 as potent.
There’s no problem if used strategically and in moderation. I smoke about a 0.3 gram after dinner and all my chores are done. Usually lasts about 2 hours for me to unwind and have some fun before bed. I remember most of my dreams actually and don’t feel anxious or that groggy. Weekends I’ll definitely smoke more but I feel like I’ve reached a sustainable balance.
One thing that I find interesting that I see everywhere that THC affects REM sleep and that you get less REM sleep through continual use of THC. I had gone through a period of time in which I did smoke roughly everyday but now I have cut down significantly after noticing it affecting my memory, but still roughly once or twice a week. I have been tracking my sleep via my smartwatch and I have found that when I do smoke that my watch actually reads that I have had better quality of sleep as well as higher than average REM sleep. I have tried to look in other places to see what other people have said about weed affecting sleep but all pretty much unanimously say that it negatively affects sleep. I wouldn't think necessarily that it is a sign of dependence because I have no problem sleeping or going without smoking for a longer period of time, but who knows maybe it is. I would love to get others' input on it and see what others had to say about it. Thanks for reading and / or sharing :)
Yes i expirience the same. I dream a lot more and sleep a lot better on weed. I tink it depends from person to person. But I also have to say I never really had a problem with my sleep. I always had a good sleep and with weed it is as good as it is without from my experience. What is very very bad for my personal sleep is sugar in candy etc that I ate in late evening. What totally disrupts my sleep is alcohol and of course nicotin. I really have troubel sleeping when smoking 2 to 3 cigarettes on a party even when i stay sober and don't drink alcohol. Maybe I am a little sensitve on nicotin or maybe it is because I rarely smoke but I can tell it is really keeping me awake at night.
It's interesting because I think the whole 'THC impacts REM sleep' is still inconclusive. Yes, there are studies shown that it disrupts REM sleep but then you have other people having exactly what you said here -- that it increases REM sleep or it has no disruptions at all. More studies need to be done. Maybe it's a person by person basis? Maybe it depends on how much THC you're taking? For example: if you take 5 mg of THC a night for a week, it might not disrupt your sleep that much. But if you take 50 mg of THC a night for a week then it may disrupt your sleep. It's like if you had 5 cups of coffee at 9 pm. Chances are you're not gonna go to bed on time, and if you do, you'll be wired up. But if you had a little bit of coffee at 9 pm, you'll probably be fine.
I’ve been doing weed for 55 years off and on. It’s saved me from the nightmare of Vietnam where I was introduced to it. I couldn’t sleep except for weed. Now at 75 I’m not using much except when sleeping evades me. This guy is someone who needs attention. The only downside was 12 years in federal prison for being a Pot Pilot . It was fun! More fun when high.
I honestly think people just abuse weed, everything in moderation...my relationship with weed early in life was terrible! But as an adult i can honestly say that it is extremely beneficial.
I started smoking at 15 years old, and turned 30 years old on the 19th of January. Ive been clean from Marijuanna since the 2nd of January 2023, so ive been clean for 28 days now, and i can absolutely 100% guarantee that this guy is totally correct about the wild dreams. I have 3 to 4 dreams per night now and they are honestly horrific. Sometimes i want to go back to smoking so that i dont have these dreams anymore. I can attest to the fact though, alcohol doesnt help, i still have nasty dreams no matter how much i drink. Just the most horrible dreams man. Its un explainable.
It seems like we’re decades behind on research because of the regulatory/prohibition hurdles. I won’t lie to myself, I’m probably dependent to some extent, but it helps with my anxiety and temper issues. It really feels like it helps me regulate my emotions and it’s easier to speak my mind, but in the end it’s just a crutch.
Ok so I'm not a scientist but have 26 years knowledge of the plant and these are my thoughts and opinions as some people have a scientific background but lack a spiritual connection to such plants. Cannabis doesn't itself affect sleep. What affects sleep is anxiety, stress, depression, trauma. So when it comes to cannabis and sleep, from my experience, when you're in a good healthy balanced state of being your sleep is not affected, even your dreams, you can actually continue to have very profound dreams. However, if you have one of the above disorders I mentioned and are a regular user then perhaps the plant is telling you to change something in your life that you're not happy with... I recently stopped smoking cannabis 3 months ago after suffering trauma at losing my mum in death, not being happy where I was in my business or social life and my sleep has improved but is not perfect. I had a year of very little sleep between 1 - 3 hours a night unless I took meds and still had poor sleep. Since quitting including alcohol my sleep has improved. However again I need to change aspects of my life, create new creative ventures that help people and as part of my new me I hope to be part of the 5am club and get up early, focus on breathing techniques, cold water swim, go to see more live music, make more friends, be more sociable without any additives. Learn to love me for me. As someone who sees the spiritual benefit of this plant and its connection to Gaia I would never denounce it but express my love for the plant as I have for nature. Simply put I wouldn't be me if it wasn't for this plant and the knowledge/ Gnosis I have gained. it is a wonderful teacher.
There is no talk here about the cannabinoid CBN- which, as I understand, is the component that makes one sleepy. This talk seems to only revolve around marijuana consumed as a whole and not the effects of its components. Does taking CBN as an isolated element still have the negative effects on sleep? I do and I have felt I have had some of the best sleep in my life since doing so. Would like to hear if others have the same experience.
I had severe social anxiety so I ran from my friends and coped with weed and alc. when I tried cleaning up my act I would always get nightmares of them. I never realized this was because of the rebound effect!
Day 4 of a thc break, and I cannot sleep. And then when I do I keep waking up. This is a nightmare. That comes with nightmares 😂 not worth it for me. I'm staying the course. This too shall pass.
As a cannabis consumer and being a PhD student in Biochemistry, I also want to add that there is a article that was published earlier this year with regards to THC and its effect on atherosclerosis. THC has a potential to raise inflammatory markers related to CV health.
Recent large Stamford study. They looked at the effects equivalent to a joint a day on mice and humans. They also state that cannabis users can largely mitigate the effects by taking genistein (present in soy or fava beans) without any effect on psychoactive or pain reductive properties. In short if you smoke a fair bit buy some genistein capsules.
Oh please answer this question - when is a good cutoff time for smoking pot and when you go to sleep? Not sure he answered this when you asked. Thanks so much. Love this podcast.
As a chronic (very chronic) user, I can testify that if definitely decreases the amount of dreams I have. When I go sober I get vivid rebound dreams. Bottom line def affects sleep LOL. Totally agreed with the video and glad I’m not the only one 😂
Me too, but is it more that something is stopping you from remembering? I keep a dream journal hundreds of dreams, 4 months no getting high, then one day feeling like I want to get high, so Google recreational weed, get a joint, smoke it, a hit here hit there,, saying to myself, OK I'm done, but no, go buy a gram and a pipe, same thing wake up get high start to come down just chasing that high, which is never as good as that first high after a long period of not getting high. Oh then I get some 1/2 g vap carts. I'll stop again when these are gone. 😂 I will. 😂
Same, 100% smoked it every day (give or take a week here and there for holidays) for over 20 years. I struggle to get tired and often go to sleep between 1am-2am and have to get up between 6-7am, I always feel I need a last smoke before bed but I also know that it does me no favours and I typically end up staying up even longer after that. I have Aspergers and sometimes wonder if I can manage it so well because of the weed, but then again I don't know any different so nothing to compare it too. But yeah dreams get very intense when I haven't smoked for a few days
Man this is insane honestly. I don't remember dreams at all but I don't seem to have any long standing issues as a result of handicapping my REM sleep with the Tree. This makes complete sense based on my experiences as a functional stoner throughout the years. I'd be a fool to say I am not addicted though lol. COMPLETE ADDICT!
I love it too, but taking breaks every now and then will do you a world of good. I'll take up to 8 weeks off to give my lungs etc a break, and I find it lowers my tolerance significantly also.
I suffer from PTSD. I'm on the highest dose of antidepressants for my anxiety and I have sleepers as a back up as agreed by my doctor. I only take the sleepers if I have a couple of nights with virtually no sleep. They work on the 1st night 8hrs straight thru but tail off on the next night. As I had pointed out to my doc sleep deprivation, driving, working with power tools etc is a killer. A friend gave me some cannabutter and with the right dosage I sleep right through and manage through the day also. I've tried everything including CBD etc but the butter works a treat for me. 9 months now and I'm coping well. Like us all I have good days and bad but sleep is a Godsend. My doctor and councellor are aware of my coping tactics. My doctor is from the Netherlands and is more open minded about the use of cannabis. I used to smoke weed but gave up smoking years ago. This is my way of coping so please take it as you will and good luck.
Hey Dr. Huberman, We're these studies conducted compared to normal sleepers. I would be interested to see about in user's with insomnia, chronic pain, an other issues that would damage sleep quality. Also, the method of consumption and strain/potency adjusted to metabolism and body weight would be interesting. Not saying that it's good, but it might be a better alternative to other sleep meds or complete lack of sleep.
as a weekend smoker from an everyday smoker, thc will mess with your sleep especially on days you dont smoke. I will say if i had to guess, your melatonin matters and with a combination of probiotics and your vitamins you can get your sleep together. Also unplug earlier if you are not smoking always to get your body ready for sleep. Make your room dark, cover your eyes and youll sleep!
Yes!!!! I smoked for over 20 years. It takes your dreams away. Gives you restless nights. It's a stimulant. I'm 16 days clean and sleep is one of the biggest positive changes. I dream like crazy now, I sleep deep and through the night, and I get tired like a normal person. Woop. Sleep and dream is so precious. It's a better drug lol. I wish anyone luck who is trying to quit. (Nothing wrong with weed, I just smoked way to much and had no self control with it, for me it held me back, I want to get the next level in life)
Thankyou for posting this bro. Im 28 days clean now, having the most nightmarish dreams you can imagine, but its all for that better life. I want a wife and kids one day, i dont want to be married to a bong. Stay strong brother we all got this 💪💪
Thank you for this, I am cutting down my THC to eventually just smoke weed when I go to a party but right now looking for as many reasons as possible to stop smoking pot during the week at night.
Personally, it's difficult to sleep without taking a weed gummy. Without I get 5 or 6 hours of off and on sleep. With the gummie, I can check out for a good solid 6 hours. Compared to melatonin which only gives me 3-4 hours of solid sleep. Weed is so different for different people
Im 44 and had never used cannabis before. I developed over the past 15 years debilitating chronic pain conditions and acute insomnia, where I was awake for days on end and if I did sleep got maybe an hour. I lived like this for 3 years wretched and completely suicidal and tried every prescriptive and alternative medicine, every therapy you could possibly think of to get to sleep and none of it worked. In desperation I tried cannabis oil, and have been using it every night for the past 4 years. It allows me at least 3 hours of sleep, not ideal but the truth is it saved my life.
I have chronic pain as well as seizures. I have to move every 20 minutes or so or my arms fall asleep. Years of sleepless nights really takes a toll on you. You will build up a tolerance and then it won't help. Idk if it will work for you but meditation and focusing your mind before sleep can help with the pain. The reason weed actually helps you to sleep is because it relaxes you. Which helps with sleep. Pain consumes your attention but if you learn to focus your attention you can learn to deal with it. After 30 years of pain that used to have me screaming all thru the night I sleep pretty well
@@onestar1017 that's wonderful you established your sleep again, a incredible win. I tried numerous meditation techniques with years of dedication but no success. I understand the cannabis relaxes me in a way I am unable to access myself. I have actually stopped using it for a year as I know it does not give you a true sleep, but it surely took me from the edge. My insomnia is the same.
Some days are better then others. I focus on the dark and pretend I'm being pulled into a black hole like in space. Let everything disappear. May u find your own peice of mind.
If someone is using THC to control anxiety that is 100xs better than resorting to using pharmaceutical drugs, alcohol or hard drugs. I figure THC is better than caffeine, alcohol and the whole pharmaceutical drug roster if you're gonna use something daily over many years.
I experienced severe insomnia (waking up in the middle of the night) for years after I stopped smoking weed. For a couple of years it was very debilitating
Take this for what is worth and I'll provide some context. I have fibromyalgia and was heavily dependent on cannabis and alcohol daily to 'help me sleep'. I recently experienced a significant flare up of symptoms, including pain, severe depression, and very disrupted sleep (only about 2 hours a night) while grieving the loss of a dear friend who left far too soon due to liver failure from many years of heavy drinking. The cannabis put me inside my own head so much it prevented me from falling asleep. I had trouble falling asleep and staying asleep for 6-7 years now. after trying almost every sleep medication in the book my doctor challenged me to quit smoking cannabis. I have not had a drink in 3 months and no cannabis in 2 months and attended grief/addictions counselling as well. I immediately started sleeping through the night, 6-7 hours. I was recently also diagnosed with sleep apnea and awaiting a CPAP so I am looking forward to seeing how much more refreshing this 6-7 hours of sleep can become. So there is a lot of circumstances to consider here with my health and changes I have made, but I have attributed my improvement in sleeping almost completely to quitting cannabis plus addressing root causes for my dependency. For the casual smoker who has it once in a while perhaps it knocks them out, but as a daily smoker for 7 plus years I can now make almost a direct link between my daily use of cannabis and my sleep problems. I can also attest to what he is saying about dreams, I never dreamed, and since I quit I have had the most lucid dreams of my life, every night, until the last week or so.
1. What was the dose of THC? 2. What was the time period between ingesting the THC and falling asleep? Guarantee you these 2 questions make a world of difference.
I thought that I could be addicted and decided to test doing a tolerance break, actually it was quite easy. No anxiety, no problems with sleeping, at first I was thinking about not coming back, but some time after I decided to get back but only two times per week. I was smoking everyday but only at night after work
I am currently trying to quit smoking THC after many years of extreme consumption and am experiencing severe sleep problems. Does it make sense to use CBD oil before sleep in order to increase sleep quality?
I've always had a hard time sleeping staying asleep from being a child. Most people have a hard time falling asleep which is easy to me. Herbz helps me have a long good night sleep. Which helps me to mentally f function correctly the next day. It also seems to calm my adhd smytoms which can be a hindrance sometimes. And yes a dream every night.
i would love them to speak on their own experiences with THC and CBD. If you’ve never used it, it makes it hard to take you at your word regarding the effects it has, let alone negative effects
Marijuana destroys my REM sleep and that’s probably why I have such bad short term memory when I’m smoking. Also, when you quit smoking after heavily smoking, you’ll more than likely develop some level of insomnia and it’s absolutely terrifying and miserable.
If you haven't spent years studying the literature, it makes it almost impossible to take you at your word regarding the effects it has, especially about the negative effects.
I have pretty much-smoked weed and drank alcohol daily for the better part of forty years. I have been a highly functioning person the whole time. I stopped both and cigarettes on 29/12/2022. What I have noticed is that besides the obvious is that I don't suffer from any more anxiety. My blood pressure has decreased to the point that I am now going through the process of eliminating the pills I take. Once this has settled, then with the help of my doctor we will eliminate the anxiety pills. I still have my dark mental sense of humor which I'm grateful for.
I'm one of the pot heads that will admit yes, I am infact addicted to smoking in general. Hearing this podcast and the another you did on the negative side effects of smoking pot is giving me the needed push to let this habit go cause spiritually I know I have to. If there was no harmful effects that you so eloquently brought to my attention I would smoke indefinitely because I do love the positive effects of using. However I have 0 interest in losing my mind later from long term daily use. I love to smoke but that doesn't make me an idiot that doesn't hear the truth like 99% of smokers will not and find some bullshit way to justify their actions and addictions.

I gotta say I fall asleep real quick when smoking, have a lot of dreams, can remember everything, can even wake up if I need to and don't want to get bitten by a dog in the dream, for example. Every year when I stop smoking for couple of moths in winter, the first ten days it takes me like 3 hours to fall asleep, no matter how tired I am. It's so weird
I’ve had trouble sleeping more than 5-6 hours for years, while being an all day every day cannabis consumer. I fall asleep in less than 5 minutes usually, but then wake up, 9:30-2:30 is a pretty common sleep schedule for me. My theory is that the THC has so thoroughly blocked my rem sleep that when I’d normally go into rem sleep, my body instead just wakes up. That’s why I’m quitting, or at least taking a break. On day 4 of no weed now, and I’m just now noticing I’m starting to dream again. The insomnia from quitting has been negligible so far at least, due to having been so severe going in. Today I actually feel better rested than I usually do.
This is very interesting. I have been smoking for years (daily) - various reasons but biggest one is to help me sleep - well I had to quit for a few months last year, and the dreams were just so vivid. Horrible, scary, right in my face dreams, I had two numbers of the emergency services dialed on my phone before I realized it was a dream and I wasn't being attacked - I was too scared to go back to sleep and kept the lights on throughout the house all night - this, and further similar experiences with those dreams, scared me so much I started smoking again just to avoid them. I have never ever been so scared.....
I feel as though I'm definitely addicted, I have quit twice before and one lasted 10 months, the thought is constantly hard to just stop smoking for myself although I do see alot of the negative mental effects on myself
If you want to stop, then you need an alternative to replace it. You could smoke (or better yet: vape) CBD-rich cannabis with low to no THC. CBD helps with addiction in general and replacing THC with CBD but keeping the habit of smoking / vaping will make it easier to wean yourself off. CBD is not psychotropic and has very mild side effects that you get used to. I wish you luck!
@@Magikct Congrats on quitting. Some people it's easier than others to use it responsibly like once every 1-2 weeks. For a lot of people it always drags you into smoking daily lol. That's commendable
@@eastcoast33__10 honestly I was down in the dumps for a long time, alot of things where falling apart out of my control, very depressed, but when I started smoking, it helped so much, but also because it helped and everyone else around me was smoking constantly it became a habit, and than the next time something went wrong it became an addiction. I won't say I'll never smoke again, but I think where I'm at now, I'm good not to, I don't feel I necessarily need it for anything, and I when I do smoke again it's going to be really intense ... but sex is real good high hahaha
As someone who used to vape Cannabis daily, I have difficulty wrapping my mind around regular Cannabis users who don’t call it an addiction. Even when I was smoking, I had no issues admitting I was, in fact, addicted.
Because I don’t crave it. I was a heroin addict. That was addiction. I can smoke for a week. Not smoke the next week and never really think about it. It just seems completely different to me.
@@HK_on_YT - at the time i equated it to an emotional addiction. i have adhd, and marijuana would shut my brain down and i felt relaxed. adhd didn’t let me watch tv, or sit still, etc. when i smoked, i could easily do all those things and enjoyed them more. eventually, the habit just became too much. i would vape all day long and would get anxiety about not being able to enjoy doing normal things without it. that’s when i knew it was time to quit. as for how i did it, i’d say it’s important to stay busy and to relearn everything i had been doing under the influence. gratitude goes a long way.

It’s kinda insane 😂
I use cannabis for PTSD mainly. I am getting far superior sleep now. For many years.
Personally remember sleeping like a baby when I was at it. But maybe it wasn’t rem sleep
Still…….
Yes, but if you smoke once a month you can still enjoying the life. The problem is because people smoke too much.

This is Inspiring.

Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.

I agree. He is not a cannabis expert. It varies from person to person.
your passing out your not getting rem sleep, just saying

Try introducing natural supplements like L-Theanine....GABA....5HTP.... Melatonin gives your brain a cushion for it's reset process

It’s crazy how much my brain is taking advantage of me not smoking anymore and making me dream, and my sleep quality is definitely better, I can sleep for less hours now and still feel like I got 8-10 hours for sleep if I was smoking.

Sounds like me and you have a whole lot of testing to do.
I dream off the rosin Fred🤣 Feel well rested whenever I get 8 hours. Good points.

I absolutely love thc for sleep. Have had insomnia since I was really little. I have absolutely crazy vivid dreams and THC calms these down to where I don't feel like I've been through an insane movie all night.
As an ex stoner YES it does. However CBD works amazing for sleep, if smoked before bed. It’s life altering
Amen 🙏
What if you are smoking just from time to time?
@Tony Camaj
I agree.
What can help giving up?

My approach is, it’s WAY better than whatever medication I would be prescribed.
maybe try cbd oil?
Nah, there are much better ways than yours.

I tend to agree. Cannabis helps me fall asleep and stay asleep.
yeah idk i've never had sleep issues and I smoke every night over a decade.

I've done it several times in my life. I never noticed my dreams being different. I dream every night stoned or not

I've been taking a 10mg CBN/CBD and 5mg THC pill every night for 7 years now. I sleep like a baby and wake refreshed every day.

Not remembering dreams is important for people with PTSD because they are horrifying.

Let me chime in with my 5 cents:

Nuance is important 👍
Yeah its not that simple because its addictive
I 100% agree with responsible moderate usage. Sadly, 99% of the people I know who use are not moderate about it. Bong rips for an hour is not reasonable, a couple if you have a very high tolerance, sure.
Then there are dabs..... I shudder at even the idea of those. It's just way too much like meth smoking... And smoking meth is the #1 way people get horribly addicted to it. (IV is more addictive but, less people start out that way.)
Weed has gotten so insanely strong and people are smoking in like it's the weed from decades ago that was at most 1/4 as potent.

Usually lasts about 2 hours for me to unwind and have some fun before bed. I remember most of my dreams actually and don’t feel anxious or that groggy. Weekends I’ll definitely smoke more but I feel like I’ve reached a sustainable balance.
this is one persons experience I don't sleep deeply without THC and with I get the best sleep and dream all the time
One thing that I find interesting that I see everywhere that THC affects REM sleep and that you get less REM sleep through continual use of THC.
Do you have ADHD?
You should probably monitor it with professional equipment rather than a commercial smartwatch. Results might surprise you..

Well the title says “marijuana” not “cbn”.
@@aquatichighs fair point. Guess I was just wondering out loud to see if anyone had some insight.
Can you dumb this down a little bit?

Recent large Stamford study. They looked at the effects equivalent to a joint a day on mice and humans. They also state that cannabis users can largely mitigate the effects by taking genistein (present in soy or fava beans) without any effect on psychoactive or pain reductive properties. I've smoked weed since 1972, and still do and it does NOT affect sleep.
😂 I will. 😂

@@chein33 No its that your brain isn't delving into deep REM sleep long enough to start dreaming.
It shortens your REM cycles.
I prefer dreamless sleep

Hey Dr. Huberman,
We're these studies conducted compared to normal sleepers.

You should watch Hubermans latest video on Cannabis

THC is good for helping me *get* to sleep, but after that, the sleep quality is very poor.
The brain is in shock. You threw a dirty bomb in it.
So true
Then try CBD and melatonin instead. This will help you get to sleep without the downsides.

@@deneb3552 Don't smoke (anything). Vape instead.
3. Did they smoke or eat it? Oral administration lasts much longer and it's converted to another substance, which has similar but different effects.
They don’t have to use it to get the accounts of those who have used it.

Yep, I can relate to that ! After 10 days is when I started getting the big dreams after quitting smoking.
😊
I’m a weird one that enjoys nightmares and crazy dream, afterwards of course. I may stop smoking just to experience these types of dreams.
I feel as though I'm definitely addicted, I have quit twice before and one lasted 10 months, the thought is constantly hard to just stop smoking for myself although I do see alot of the negative mental effects on myself
Don't think about not smoking, think about good things. God. Jesus.

Does CBD produce the same effects in the absence of THC?
As someone who used to vape Cannabis daily, I have difficulty wrapping my mind around regular Cannabis users who don’t call it an addiction. Even when I was smoking, I had no issues admitting I was, in fact, addicted.
One word: pride. All humans have it, potheads are no different.
Why do you think that you were addicted? What did you do to stop?
