Mother 32 Tutorial: Percussion!! Mothers hidden secret!

  • So as I say in the video...I use the mother 32 mainly for Hi-Hat/Percussion now, mainly because it only has one oscillator and I can't afford a Pulsar 23 !
    Obviously I mainly just make songs, because there are soooooo many people out there that know so much more, but this just seemed like an area that is slightly over looked in the Moog semi modular synth Range.
    So here's a quick and easy video for how to perfectly match up the mother 32 with the DFAM to make a full drum kit!
    Its fairly simple to get a good hi hat sound out of the Mother 32, so hopefully this will give you some good ideas!!
    Im gunna stop waffling now, have a great evening!!!

    DFAM is way more than kick and snare, that doesnt take creative patching. Just the FM of the two oscillators and some long decay can get bassslines without any patching whatsoever.

    I don't know what it is about the Mother-32 that keeps me from ever getting bored of it.
    Might be the form factor, the combo of simplicity vs depth, or just the general visual aesthetic of the control surface. The great sound definitely plays a role. But I think it's gotta be partially the visuals & the controls that draw me in each time.
    Isn't it crazy how almost everyone uses theirs in a different way? it feels utterly inexhaustible.
    Love what you're doing here - makes me want to explore more M32 percussion patches for sure.

      Thank you for taking the time to write that mate, you are right there is just so much to it! Also I just check out your channel!! Criminally not enough subs!! Loving what you're doing especially the full journey over hours!

      Agreed. One of the only things I use it for now is making clean sub bass

    This is great! It's almost as if the sequencer was made for hats.... Modulating the resonance and/or varying gate length with sustain on gives nice variation as well.

    So, basically you keep an expensive noise generator in your setup? You could drop in on ebay and with the money buy a couple of utilities to complement the other 2 Moogs in your rack.

      That is true, however I don’t use them exclusively for this purpose it’s just another way of using it

    Amazing. You have become my Moog SoundStudio favorite channel No. 1 - I would love to see how you would use pedals in combination with single unit or through the sound audio equalizer. Looking forward to watch. you next vid clip

    Great video, I've only recently discovered your channel, I'm slowly working through. I have a Dfam, and I want to defend it, only in a friendly manner though!
    It can be so much more than a kick and snare. It can be the the bass notes in between the beats, it can be the bass line, I've had mine spitting out 303 style acid lines, and if you add something like a keystep, you've got 2 moog oscillators to play, which I imagine could be routed through your M32? Also, something I'm trying to experiment with is using the External Audio In on Dfam to see what I can do with that. I'd also recommend getting a couple of stackable cables, so you can route the Pitch and Velocity sequencers to more than 1 destination. Stackable cables are really handy to have. And one of my favourite, really simple patches to do is VCO2 > Velocity In. This gives you variation in the sequence and gets you away from the rigid 8 step pattern. If you play with VCO2 Velocity nob, it increases or decreases variation.
    If you can add a kick from somewhere else, the Dfam can do the rest, and it helps to make it really performable. I also like to clock it with an irregular or random clock, perhaps from your Subharmonicon, which, again, helps get away from the regular 8 step sequencer.
    I'd love a M32 to go with mine, just because they look great as a set. I have quite a few semi modular mono synths though, so can't really justify it.
    Many thanks 🙏

      First of all, cheers for taking the time to write this! Secondly, I agree with everything you have said completely. I almost think the DFAM shouldn't be called a 'drummer' as it is capable of so much more, the main reason I made this was just so I could demonstrate a way of making it a full kit whilst adding the mother 32. To be honest this video was more about getting more out of the mother 32 as before I added it onto the DFAM, I was considering getting rid of it! I also checked out your channel, you should upload some music! Ive subbed in anticipation!

    Man you make the best sound's out of these synths.
    Have you considered any erica synths? Could only imagine what you'd create combining both Moog and Erica.

      One question tho, on the live input method you first showed, when riding the tempo how was it ratcheting to the other? Like it seemed to be clicking into place,

    • @Cutflower
      @Cutflower  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not 100% sure what you mean buddy, the tempo was coming from my Daw though (as much I I would love to go dawless, but Fx are expensive!), does that help?

    okay, a 1000 bucks for a very basic drum machine. you could probably get the same for 183 bucks or less even. but I agree, it's hard to sell a Moog, because you know they will only get more expensive with the years. still... there's so much stuff out there you could get for this money.

    • @Cutflower
      @Cutflower  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is so true, but I do use it for other stuff, funny thing is though the pulsar 23 is 1800 for a kick bass snare and oscillator, and I kinda prefer this option
