    Very relatable, a nice insight.

    I bought the EW Hollywood libraries when I first started. This brass one is the only one I’ve never had to consider replacing. I still use the others for certain patches and sketching, but the brass is just top notch.

      I agree entirely. But I also like the strings, even though there are also a few good string libraries out there. Cheers!

    Thank you for this and your other video on the strings. Both libraries have been collecting dust since I bought them years ago because I didn't really know how to approach them at the time and I lost interest in them. This might actually help me get started =)

    The instructions for all the EastWest Libraries are available in their website and it would really be useful to have to hand as this type of video supports what is in the instructions. All those abbreviations will be explained too which would be really helpful for a newcomer to this

    One piece of advice that I took from Mike Verta's masterclasses is that if you want to play chords or multiple voices, don't use the solo patches. Because the way multiple instruments interact with each other in the real world, changing the overall sound, is a lot different from simply combining multiple solo instruments in a DAW. So, for chords, I use the 2FH or 6FH patches. But yeah, if you have like only 2 voices, or a simple melody + countermelody combintation, then I'd still go for 2 solo patches instead.

    • @SecondTierSound
      @SecondTierSound  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're absolutely right. I still find that it works fairly well with this library, as long as they don't play the same note, if they are only two voices. But there might be times when you think it sounds better with more instruments. There are no rules set in stone, but it is a good concept to keep in mind.

    Thanks so much for previous discussion - thanks to you, I successfully set up the expression map.
    What I can’t love about EW library is that some patches has velocity control whereas some only has expression(CC11) control for volume. Is there an efficient way you distinguish this when using a patch? Or, you don’t use velocity control at all and do all with expression wheel?

    • @SecondTierSound
      @SecondTierSound  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mention this in the video. I use all of them. But velocity is particularly important in shorts.
      And performed patches, for example crescendo don't use MOD, because the dynamic curve is already recorded.

      Yes, if you buy it new. If you own the offer version, you still have it, and can download it. Also, the opus is nearly identical. But that will come soon. Cheers.

    Can this be used for live performances? For example in Mainstage 3.

    • @SecondTierSound
      @SecondTierSound  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not done that, and I don't think it made for that. But why not. Theoretically you can use any library live as long the latency isn't too bad. I don't know about mainstage 3 though.

    Ty again for this video! Maby a weird question but is there a way to connect my modweel in play ?

    • @SecondTierSound
      @SecondTierSound  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately there aren't many ways to setup/change Play. You have to make sure that your controller/keyboard is correctly setup. Pretty much all controllers have the modwheel set to cc1, which is the dynamic layer. If you have more faders/knobs, it is good to also have one set for cc11, also called expression, because most libraries use that as well, including play.

      th-cam.com/video/0rkrmU4b4rg/w-d-xo.html
      just create a midi track input Opus, no output. record with this track armed and some chords on Opus track. then disolve midi by channel. That's it. Then you do whatever you want with the individual tracks !
