Personally, I believe that every fromsoft game is a great one in it's own way, but bloodborne was Myazaki's "turning point", when he got a collosal help from sony, went on a new level of music production, tried an absolutely new setting(Victorian instead of medieval fantasy), and tried out his ideas of passion towards Lovecraftian horror. Which is all, was a turning point which made Elden Ring the game we know and love today. But God damn me almost every boss track in bloodborne is an emotional banger in on itself, especially Gerhman and Ludwig for me
What's so cool about Bloodborne is how you go through multiple stages and genres of horror the more you go into the game Like, when you start, the game has a convincing Victorian, pre-industrial era vibe, almost like you are traveling in White Chapel in fear of encountering Jack the Reaper, then you move to see more and more eerie creatures like werewolves, giants; you suddenly enter a Van Helsing universe (there's also a whole location inspired by vampires and Dracula's castle) before dwelling into a world of dreams and nightmares where ennemies are weird, some change shapes, they inflict weird diseases and status effects.. until you reach the Lovecraftian monstrosities and realise you never actually seen these transitions and that they all connect to each other seamlessly Man, what a great game.. which I could experience it for the first time And yes, Bloodborne is really well known for its intense combat system because it's the first time a Soulsgame actually changed the pace Where Dark Souls and Demon Souls gives the option to just hit and back or dodge and hit, Bloodborne choose the approach of "whoever strikes the fastest is better", dodging in the game is still possible even though more difficult since all the ennemies are fast as hell, and the parry system is sooo satisfying (the guns deal little to no damage, even though we can add damage to bullets, they only serve as parry). The lack of shield (well there's one but it's really bad lol) also force the player to play dangerously. In other Souls before it, you had to go away to heal, Bloodborne allows you to do so still but there's also the rally system, allowing the player to regain HP they lost by hitting the enemy in a short period of time before the rally ends So theoretically the game can be played as a Dark Souls or an Elden Ring, but that would be very long and tiring whereas Bloodborne high paced rythm makes it perfect to time parries and dodges correctly.. and yeah let's not speak of the lore (imo the best one in all Soulsbornes) and the OSTs (Gherman, Laurence and Ludwig being 3 of my absolute favorites of all time all game included, higher than Elden Ring which has a lot of bangers (thinking of Lichdragon Fortissax, truly underrated by everyone))
It kind of says something about how beloved/impactful/iconic bloodborne is because there are still tons of people who refer to these games as 'soulsborne' games. It is by far my favorite of From Software's games (Elden Ring and DS3 do get pretty close tho), and I love all the FS games, but this is tied up there with my top 3 favorite games ever. It's so unique and evocative and feels so responsive and fast to play, and the way it tackles the settings of a decaying Victorian land with all the underlying themes of cosmic horror is just 🤌! And the Old Hunters DLC might just be one of the best expansions in gaming (although The Ringed City for DS3 gives it a pretty good run for its money).
BB is my favorite out of all the soulsborne series, especially as a single-player experience - I think it hits all the right notes from visual/aesthetic to music (best in the series IMO) to enemy designs to its gameplay (especially its level design, which I can only describe as 'shortcut pornography' - the way the levels intertwine and loop back on themselves is immaculate) - and the DLC only makes everything better. It's easily one of the best expansions in the series. The only suggestion I'd give is waiting to play it until you finish Dark Souls - not to sound pretentious, but I think going from Dark Souls to Bloodborne is part of the experience so to speak. I say that because BB has a very clear deviation from Dark Souls in terms its game design, to the point that you kind of have to 'unlearn' some habits from Dark Souls, which is very much intentional. They even went so far as to put a 'joke' weapon in the game that sucks on purpose, to kinda meme about the way most people played Dark Souls and how it wasn't gonna work in this game. It's still very much a souls game at its core, but it puts a small but noticeable twist on the whole thing; Elden Ring and Dark Souls are more 'interchangeable' in that they can play very similarly to each other (especially Dark Souls 3), while BB is a bit different from them both. The only bad thing I would say about this game is that it's not on PC (which won't ever change because Sony exclusivity deal). It used to be that you had to have a PS4 to play it, but fortunately you can get it on PS5 now (digitally).
Thank you so much for the insight! Yeah I was thinking of playing all dark souls games first and then move on to bloodborne. I can already tell the switch from sekiro to dark souls was quite hard cause I had to unlearn my muscle memory. I have a ps4 and a capture card so that wouldn’t be an issue for me!

The combat in BB is excellent. Most of the boss fights are nice challenges without being total BS (I said most, not all…). In this game, Guns are YOUR parry mechanic. It’s not quite as dark overall as these videos imply, although there are some pretty dark optional areas you can go to.
@@beckachuuyeah, the exploration is pretty fantastic. The Chalice dungeons less so. They are totally optional. I didn’t touch them the first couple playthroughs. Most ratings are based on your weapon level which is 1-10 (that is based off where you are in the game, you can’t access weapon level 10 until the very end of the game). Technically they allow access to some really powerful ‘gems’ and weapons in the early game, but it’s really best to play through the main game at least once. And the first 3-5 chalices aren’t very challenging or interesting on the first play through. But they are dark and cramped, which makes it lame that Bloodborne doesn’t have a first person camera mode for certain fights. 😢. The music and the atmosphere are just sublime. Bloodborne is basically the Dark Victorian aesthetic to the max. Like, it's an awful place to live in with all the danger abound, but I would like to live there.
Ironically, much like the intros to the Dark Souls games the trailers for Bloodborne (especially the earliest ones) have a ton of stuff in them that aren't in the final game. In fact, the earliest trailer, one you didn't actually see, was back when it didn't even have a name. They just called it, "Project Beast" and it had a ton of alpha footage in the trailer. Bloodborne started development at the same time as Dark Souls 1's DLC started development, and continued through Dark Souls 2 and it's DLCs so it had been worked on for a very long time by the time it was announced then later released. Turned out to be probably one of their best games and the one game that actually got me into Fromsoftware. Before Bloodborne, I had only played Dark Souls 1 and it was only for a few hours. Sadly, it didn't click for me at the time. Then I tried out BB and it suddenly all clicked. Been in love with these games ever since. BB is truly a game changer.
Even after finishing all of elden ring and its dlc, bloodborne setting/world, story/lore, combat and style, and almost above all, the music is my favorite of all time. I doubt anything will ever dethrone it.
Bloodborne uses weapons that are called "Trick Weapons". Each weapon has two forms and allows you to transform it back and forth as needed - essentially you are using two different weapons in the form of one. This allows for really nice combos when attacking enemies as you can transform and untransform your weapon while attacking. For example, there is a cane sword that can be transformed into a razor whip.
These trailers are so good. I dont want to spoil the game but anybody who has beaten it will understand that choosing these sections only to show off made the big reveal halfway through even more special. This game has one of the best world design twists/reveal in gaming history. So so so good

Great comments. However the fact you constantly pause the trailers utterly ruins the atmosphere they're building up and actually kills the tension they're meant to provoke.
Combatewise, Bloodborne is the best among all the fromsoft games. I spent about 1000+ just to play the optional dungeon contents just to enjoy the combat. The weapons in this is definitely the peak design among all the games
I respect all of the fromsoft games, but I gotta say that Bloodborne is the best out of all that I've played! I guess I just prefer the speed and parry system. Also how did you get that blue light? I never see it on my version of youtube.
@@beckachuu Just looked it up, and it's a thing with youtube. If you click the settings gear on a video you get some kind of "ambient mode" setting. Edit: I say "Just" but i meant shortly after the original comment.
It's real funny to me how Elden Ring players get mad at how difficult it is, when Bloodborne is ten times harder, and more aggressive and fast paced compared to it. Mark my words, BB is the hardest FromSoft game.
I think it's safe to say that probably the majority of Fromsoftware fans find Bloodborne as their top game, even over Elden Ring Bloodborne was a point of transformation for the studio as well.. it is the reason that DS3, Sekiro, and Elden Ring exist and considered god tier.. it's because Bloodborne elevated the combat to a new level, among many other things that was carried over to the games after it
id rank the fromsoft games iv played from fav to least fav 1)elden ring 2)dark souls 3 3)dark souls 4)sekiro 5)bloodborne 6)armored core 6 7)demon's souls 8)dark souls 2 i dont like bloodborne as much as some people do but i still think its a fantastic game.
Easily the most overrated Souls in the entire community. Along with Sekiro, they are the most beloved games, but that game did have an excellent combat system, unlike Bloodborne. I guess people see Lovecraftian aesthetics stuck in the same color palette for 80% of the game and buy it like candy. Although it has the best music of the entire franchise, especially the DLC.
Some of us prefer quick dodging combat against crap shields or slow armor. Bloodborne is extremely popular for every way in which it’s not a souls game. Sekiro is actually closer in combat mechanics to BB than either are to any other souls game.
It isn't the same color palette tho. You clearly didn't pay attention to the game and I don't even rank it as my favorite i rank it with most of them as just great games while des is my favorite. But to say the same color palette is actually incredibly inaccurate

Combatewise, Bloodborne is the best among all the fromsoft games. I spent about 1000+ just to play the optional dungeon contents just to enjoy the combat. The weapons in this is definitely the peak design among all the games
Woooo 🎉
Bloodborne Gang we here bois💪
I respect all of the fromsoft games, but I gotta say that Bloodborne is the best out of all that I've played! I guess I just prefer the speed and parry system.
Also how did you get that blue light? I never see it on my version of youtube.
I have no idea, first time I saw it as well. Maybe it’s a thing on the playstation channel?
@@beckachuu Just looked it up, and it's a thing with youtube. If you click the settings gear on a video you get some kind of "ambient mode" setting.
Edit: I say "Just" but i meant shortly after the original comment.
Bloodborne is one of my favorite games and realized i really didn’t saw any trailers. Lol
And also, wow these trailers are terrible. Lol
She ain’t making it past cleric beast
Maybe reaching cleric beast is my only goal who knows
7 months….
What does it mean
@@beckachuu play bloodborne!
best game ever made.... i'm in the waiting room for you to play this. ... also in the PC waiting room 🤡
lol.
It's real funny to me how Elden Ring players get mad at how difficult it is, when Bloodborne is ten times harder, and more aggressive and fast paced compared to it. Mark my words, BB is the hardest FromSoft game.
Currently struggling more with dark souls than elden ring or sekiro so I believe it
I think it's safe to say that probably the majority of Fromsoftware fans find Bloodborne as their top game, even over Elden Ring
Bloodborne was a point of transformation for the studio as well.. it is the reason that DS3, Sekiro, and Elden Ring exist and considered god tier.. it's because Bloodborne elevated the combat to a new level, among many other things that was carried over to the games after it
Just to let you know this game had the hardest boss of any soulsborne game until malenia came out.
So I’ve heard
id rank the fromsoft games iv played from fav to least fav
1)elden ring
2)dark souls 3
3)dark souls
4)sekiro
5)bloodborne
6)armored core 6
7)demon's souls
8)dark souls 2
i dont like bloodborne as much as some people do but i still think its a fantastic game.
you say you think you'll play the dlc , let me say any from software dlc deserves to be played that's it
So ive heard! I‘ll definitely play it
@@beckachuu hope you'll have fun doing them !
Bloodborne combat walk so sekiro could run.
Wow this is the first time I hear that opinion. The combat looks pretty good, why do you not like it if I may ask?
Some of us prefer quick dodging combat against crap shields or slow armor. Bloodborne is extremely popular for every way in which it’s not a souls game.
Sekiro is actually closer in combat mechanics to BB than either are to any other souls game.
It isn't the same color palette tho. You clearly didn't pay attention to the game and I don't even rank it as my favorite i rank it with most of them as just great games while des is my favorite. But to say the same color palette is actually incredibly inaccurate
Bloodborne is by far the best FromSoftware game ever! Yes, that includes Elden Ring! Fear the Old Blood 🩸!
