I have got to say Larry Joe had the mentality/heart that you could and would count on every time needed. He had a certain flavor of uniqueness. People and opposing teams would watch in amazement a say "How did he do that". Unbelievable !!! When he would pull the ball back over his head it would go precisely where he was looking. LEGEND. Nearly 1/2 a century later. He still deserves recognition. Love your reactions. Thank you. I live in tennessee but grew up about 40 miles from French lick. ❤😊

Bird played every game like it was game seven of the finals. Even in exhibition games.

He earned my respect a long time ago for that mentality

The difference between players of the past and current players is simple. Players of the past would try to destroy you physically, steal your soul and become your nightmare. The documentary of the redeem team shows Kobe telling his team that he is going to put his teammate Gasol on the ground minute one. This shocks Kobe's teammates. Then Kobe does it and it further shocks his teammates. All this tells me is that Kobe has that killer instinct and none of his teammates can even comprehend doing something like that. Kobe has the same drive that Jordan, Magic and Bird had. That's what separates him from all the players he played with and against. Kobe is not a big guy but he's not backing down to anyone. The fact that he had an alter ego to be that kind of player is even better. Magic was the same. Earvin was a good guy. Magic wants to cut your heart out. Thank you Kobe for taking over the gold medal game in 2008. Without him that team would not have won that Gold. I miss the game played in the 80's so much. Those finals between Bird and Magic were all encompassing. Everyone talked about. Teachers wouldn't give homework. Parents let us stay up to watch 9pm east coast games. Lakers would come to town and the second they stepped of the plane every single person they saw gave em hell

Color TV was definitely a thing when Larry was playing high school ball and certainly in college and after. But in my house, we had a large color TV, they were like these giant heavy pieces of furniture, but in in our bedrooms we had small black and white TVs. Not sure why those clips are in black and white.

My ultimate 5 is Bird, Magic, Duncan, Jokic, and Kobe. I used to debate if I wanted Kobe or George Gervin. Larry convinced me that Kobe was in my 5.

I like your top 5, they are all well rounded hall of famers on both sides of the court.

Bird worked for the Street depth, part of the job was collecting trash.

I got to watch Jimmer cook his opponents in high school.
