Shonen Knife is AWESOME! I remember seeing them back in the 1990's. They're still doing what they do best, rockin out! As a guy who has seen the Ramones back in the day,( over a dozen times), I really appreciate Shonen Knife's, (and everyone else's tributes to them), and I realize The Ramones' everlasting influence on so many bands' music! The Ramones will be revered by many bands to come, even those too young to have gone to see them.
It's all about having fun you know? These girls are obviously having a lot of fun, and that's real! You can really connect to it, because they are portrayed as real people. That's what punk can be to me. It's not people hiding behind a mask.
Shonen Knife is still going strong, their latest album OVERDRIVE is going to be released this spring, followed by a European tour and a North American tour scheduled for October. And yes, they still go to NY on every tour. As for Canada, likely they will go to Montreal, Toronto & Vancouver (North American tour dates not yet announced) For details, go to Damnably records webpage in Europe and Good Charamel records in the USA/Canada
@lumpagogo - A agree with you on Cherry Bomb...as for their percussion, Atsuko got much better later .... then replaced Michie on Bass..... well..... let's just say they are on drummer #4
I consider that Naoko wrote this specifically for me since I'm a crazy, genius, long haired boy in LA. I love the Knife during these early years. I absolutely adore Emi, Ritsuko, Risa and Etsuko, and would like to see more with Naru, but this was the best of the Knife, with Michie part of the band, and Naoko's big goofy, innocent smile! And Atsuko, such a doll. Glad she's back playing with her big sis.
I have to admit, that they're much better than that other Japanese female band called The 5.6.7.8's. Though The 5.6.7.8's song "I Walk Like Jayne Mansfield" isn't too bad.
Of course they're 'for real'--what does that mean? This is the Japanese aesthetic. It's purty darn weird to my American sensibility, but yeah, it's for real.
Got to love shonen knife . It not a new find for me I forgot who they were for 15years as they don't get much air time on the radio in Australia, shame really they have so much talent, and are so quite!
como... que me sonó un poco a .. los fresones rebeldes jajajajajaja... u.u he estado buscando una banda de j´rock femenina que me llame la atención pero hasta ahora ninguna...
God I love these guys. They have powerful antidepressant properties without the scary side effects.
wow "gimme gimme" i love the referencing this is punk and creative
Shonen Knife understood the US punk ethos far better than about 95% of American punk groups.
Brilliant!
Punk meets beauty, joy and innocence.
Shonen Knife recorded a tribute to Redd Kross because Redd Kross recorded to Shonen Knife.
I saw them in August 2019 in portland at dante's inferno and had the night of my life

You must have been so stoned
Haha I'm a huge fan of Redd Kross so I had to check this out and I gotta say it's pretty awesome :)

I adore their chequered dresses and great catchy tune!
This song was my first introduction to Shonen Knife. Love it!
The live version on 'The Birds & The B-Sides' is kick-ass, maybe their best performance ever.
Japanese woman-child rock 'n roll trios are where it's at.
just saw them live at the empty bottle! hell yeah shonen knife!!
I found this from a jack stauber archive vid where someone discovered the music playing in the background, nice

Forget about L.A.! After seeing Shonen Knife, I want to go to Osaka!
Update: I have been there twice now, and it's amazing! 😊
i had that mechanical duck on the bike toy in the 90s. :)
I was hooked when I heard Banana Chips for the first time. lol
@jeremymccoy - Thank you! I've been trying to figure out what they said for YEARS!! It makes perfect sense, when one thinks about it. :)
Thanks for posting this, I love this song. :)
7 thumb's down people who don't like LA...... LOL.... I'm a thumb's up person for this song and this band.
I bought one last fall; planning to get it "Knifed" during the concert tour this summer
SHONEN KNIFE IS THE BEST GODDAMN HEAVY METAL BAND IN THE FUCKING WORLD!
I love the simplicity of Japanese woman-child trios.
Yeah, Shonen Knife!
"Osaka is my favorite town!!"
Hey Jeremy, Dave Markey directed this video, you might want to add that information here. thanks
Atsuko (on drums here) used to design all their "stage outfits" herself :)
(SK was a family operation)
Actually, there is (I just found it), but, it doesn't come up on the searches....thank gosh for "favorites"
Lol sure,it'd be an honor.I love Shonen Knife.

@n8tehgr8 so well said! SK is my fave band in EVER.....they replaced the Beatles on that pedestal...should tell you something!
You have to be COOOOOL to have a song written bout your band by this band of major Ramones worshippers.

Loves it!
these chicks rock!!
@1Ice1 This wasn't a cover 0.o , Naoko wrote it herself
zomg I love this song ^---^
do u still love it
For me it was Watching Girl; sadly, there's no video for it :(
It's like what the Muppets crossed with the Simpsons but they seem to enjoy themselves
@exeuroweenie Thank you very much :)
Fucking awesome.

Shonen Knife are important!
Deep.
2:19 - Mechanical Duck looks disapprovingly upon you. ;)
The last shot is in NYC for some reason.
@ ZOMBIEDOLPHIN8DX thats just hilarious!!!!!
@jeremymccoy - honest to g-d, I thought they were saying 'dadgum bike'.
Of course they're 'for real'--what does that mean?
This is the Japanese aesthetic. It's purty darn weird to my American sensibility, but yeah, it's for real.
Brilliant, it’s punk, fuckin rocks.
@ZOMBIEDOLPHIN8DX true...but, I like this one better
interesting music choice bill trinen
@exeuroweenie Would you mind if i quoted you on my SK website? I just love that line! :)
@KPizzle1000 Their latest album "Free Time" proves you right! :)
@WoodRatGirl - Yeah, the 5678s version of the Rockateens' "WooHoo" is pretty good but, they arent even close to SK in talent!
Bill is a weeb.
I can dig it.
I like SK 1st generation.
@lumpagogo - haha thx ;)
at the beginning do they say "dog on bike" or "guys! go bite"?
One of the favorite bands of late Kurt Cobain...Rest in Peace
What 5 losers gave Shonen Knife thumbs down?
Not I love the sound 🙌
They've only got one more thumbs down in the 3 years since this comment. Not too shabby!
Got to love shonen knife .
It not a new find for me I forgot who they were for 15years as they don't get much air time on the radio in Australia, shame really they have so much talent, and are so quite!
they probably hit the wrong icon because they were drunk.
Gimmie Gimmie Sexy music!
To quote Ricky from The Trailer Park Boys: "what in the fuck"?
@tony0000 hahaha
