Hey Dave! This is the best best, most understandable ar lube video I've ever seen. Your use of the high viz pointer and paint pen was perfect. Thanks, brother!
I've been watching videos all afternoon on AR 15 maintenance, yours is the best one I've seen!!!! Thank you!!!! It's clear, precise, wonderfully detailed!!
Brother thank you so much for this video, for someone who just bought is FIRST AR, this video is ridiculously helpful with the light colored marker, and the arrows and the attention to detail thank you so much
I used to grease the buffer spring to prevent the sproing noise, then I spent the money to get a braided spring that doesn't sproing naturally. Worth it to me.
Thanks for the help. I've seen dozens of cleaning videos and this was the only one that zoomed in on important parts on the lower. Thank you so much this was a big help.
@@mc-sillix961 yes i know, it's the same in my country. But what i tried to say is you can buy 30rd magazines without permit and have them in home. You just can't use them on the range. Here in my country i can only use 10rd mags for semi auto rifle, but i can buy them with 30rds or even 75rds drums without permit. I just can't use them. Unless i attend a competition, then i can use bigger mags.
Thank you so much! As a new rifle owner this video was so informative and your paint marker idea was outstanding! Also, as a mechanic I totally agree about the grease.
This video's are very well put together. I feel like I'm watching a professional production from an OEM, not some ad hoc, in-some-guys-garage video. Keep up the good work!
I've been searching through videos for a few days on this topic. This is the last video I will watch. Thank you for how you explained everything. This is exactly what I needed
One of the best videos I have seen on youtube - both for content and quality of delivery. I usually watch videos at 1.5 speed or 2.0 speed because most presenters ramble and speak too slowly. I actually had to turn yours to 1.0 speed because you're speaking and delivery are exactly how it should be done. By the way, I love the look, look, look, turn away, look again. I've never heard the look away and do it again but that really does make sure you're really looking and not just pointing your head in all the directions and not actually seeing what's there. Great tip!
Perfect and direct to the point. Just got my first rifle and this gave me reassurance on how to do it correctly. You got me as a subscriber from here on out
I just drop my whole AR into a 55gal drum of full synthetic motorcycle oil and when I'm ready to use it I just pull it out and shake off the excess. Good to go 😁
I'm an old Army guy with a NEW AR pistol. Love the refresher ! Have to get a needle oiler. Enjoyed the NO GREASE commentary, as I just watched another guy's TH-cam video where he used grease :) CLP for me until I run out...................
great video..im new to the AR platform, and ill admit i have used tetra gun grease im thinking ill stop now. ive also used balistol, but im hearing GREAT things about this SLiP 2000....thanks!
Glad to hear you say, there’s no need to oil up the buffer or spring👍 there are hundreds of cleaning and lubricant videos here, some say oil them, some say don’t. Never did see a need to lube a buffer.
The instructions for my Sig M400 said to put a light coat on the spring and buffer, I would think you should listen to the people that manufacture the firearm.
You should definitely oil the buffer spring it runs much quieter and you don't have to listen to that twang noise you don't need to drench it just a little bit goes a long way
I'd decided I wanted to try the Slip 2000 line out and picked up a bottle of the EWL & tube of EWG for my carbine bolt rails thinking it should stay in place. Slip 2000 also have another oil the EWL 30 that from what I've read the viscosity is in between the two lubes I previously mentioned.
Great video. I agree with all the lube points except for the holes in the BCG. It's going to blow gas thru those holes and basically you're just going to blow oil and gunk all over. I think its pointless. Let me know your thoughts.
IMO, cleaning & lubing are 2 separate processes. They are done in that order. You clean with a solvent, I use odorless mineral spirits (Home Depot). As for lubeing the AR15, I use mineral oil (from the drug store) on most spots, except for the bolt carrier group. For the BCG you need something that can survive the hot gasses, I use LSA (Mil-Spec).
First of all I commend you for your safety checks demo. The AR should never be wet with lubrication. I can't tell you how many times I go to the range and a guy is firing an A4 and oil is spraying like a mist in the air. That is lubrication that is dangerous. The A4 was not designed to run wet! If excessive lubrication makes its way into the chamber, it can affect the brass sealing in the chamber and could blow your gun up. All you need is a little drop in the pivot sections youve shown. If you download the colt AR-15 manual, you will find it's recommendation for lubrication and they know that excessive lubrication attracts dust and dirt and will cause premature wear. Same with the mini-14. But I have lubed these guns as described and have put many thousands of rounds through each. I have never had to replace any of those parts. Very good video!
Dry guns don’t run. We shoot 2k rounds in a weekend class and the wet guns run, the dry guns choke. A wet gun will run just fine and isn’t dangerous that’s been proven many times. The Vickers dunk test proves that as well. Thanks for the comment!
Kind words, for sure, but please type "your" instead of ur. You save two keystrokes but everyone who ever reads what you typed has to figure out what you mean. You save a 1/4 second and cost thousands of viewers 1/2 second. You're not typing on your old phone with only 10 number buttons to type; no need to take shortcuts.
I’ve seen tons of videos where shooters will lube the BCG through the ejection port in the field before firing. Is this necessary under any circumstances (i.e heavy firing days)?
I've seen people lightly lube the outside of the buffer spring due to it coming in contact with the buffer tube. Your point makes sense. Too much lube and it will pool. Any thoughts on a light lubing?
How often should you lubricate your AR? I recently bought a Dark Storm Industries Fixed Mag ar-15 and he wasnt clear on how often i should be lubricating it. I lubrictae my wincheser 12 gauge after 3 days at the range with it
That's a lot of oil you use. I cover a all the parts with less. Including the underside of the charging handle which is a wear spot. I also use royal purple because well it's better than clp by a large margin and it doesn't burn off as fast so cleaning the bcg is damn near a wipe down and reapply. Even controls the carbon build up behind the piston rings.
@@stevenmarcus2709 I barely use any but there was a time I was a squirt bottle at the range type. Then I got tired of trying to get all that out to return the rifle into the arms room and having clp all over my face and glasses. Streaky glasses make qualifying more difficult than it should be.
@@stevenmarcus2709 I've never had a problem functionally or cleaning with light coats of oil. Yes my personal firearms I can leave noticeable oil down in the receiver but in the army where I learned my practices of less is more with this platform, it took way too much time to get all the excess oil out to turn the rifle into the arms room. They had to be spotless clean and dry.
I was worried about the use of grease. Having watched other videos I went ahead and used hawg grease on the rails. I think I'll back off now as it seems that my initial trepidation had been confirmed. I'm new to the AR DI system so I'm still researching so that I can get the most enjoyment from it and hopefully in the future provide valid advice to others. Thanks for a quality presentation.

Very good, quick, to the point explanation. The paint was a great visual aid that really helped me understand. Thanks for the great video!
