Honestly the Warhammer games have always had very vibrant settings. Even in 40K, the Space Marines paint themselves in the colours of their chapters, the Guardsmen wear all sorts of regalia, the Orks obviously have their own colour mythology, and even the Necrons, the most dour and fatalistic faction in the setting, have a tendency to decorate themselves. And Warhammer Fantasy was never as grim and morose as 40K is. I think it's a lot more accurate to make the setting--even the darker, grimier parts of it--bright and colourful. (I also like it esp. in wild places like the Mountains of Mourn, because it helps to emphasize that this is a place of extremes, where everything is much bigger and louder than anywhere else. Sorta like the colouration of poisonous frogs.)

This maps looks huge, beautiful and I can't wait to play it! It looks like Kislev has been expanded so much which is brilliant. And all these new lands and armies will be so fun to learn and defeat!
Campaign design looks very smooth, I think those trees definitely look better than in WH II. So many little sceneries with such detail. The map will be gorgeous to look at.
@@thecrtf4953 It's not in every case, mostly in the old world, but if you conquer Old World as Bretonnia, you get to see those lushy fresh Broad-leaved trees, meanwhile Empire gets Spruce when they conquer elswhere. Greenskins spread their fungus on map as another example.
I really like the details on these maps, like the white tigers and sabertusks. I also imagine the different lords on the map will each be a different faction.
The priority from a game design perspective should be the ease of understanding what you’re looking at, and this map definitely looks much cleaner and clearer than the last. I remember as a new player to WH2 seeing the map and taking a while to get a grasp on what the hell i was looking at. That isn’t great from a design perspective, and honestly it wasn’t that great to look at. This is simply awe inspiring. It captures the vastness and variety of the world and still clearly displays borders, roads, terrain, etc. They did a great job. Grungy campaign maps may fit for the setting, but they suck from a gameplay standpoint, and it seems most people greatly prefer the eye candy and readability of this map. I’m excited to see the chaos lands. I’m sure they will be plenty grim.
I've been waiting for this! The map looks so much more vibrant and colorful than the previous games, kinda reminds me of the changes between Civ V and VI. I like it. Everything seems to pop more.
That was my exact thought. I love the semi-realism as much as the next TW/Warhammer fan but something about that *slightly* bright and cartoon-y art style really ties these bizarre factions together.
I’ve watched this video 5-10 times now, relooking over all the details. I like that when zooming around the map in the video they falter over the Dark Lands and the Plains of the North. Possibly hinting at Dawi-Zharr and the Hobgoblin Khanate?? WH3 is already extremely promising with what they’ve shown us, cannot wait!!
This is how all gaming companies should be, they all should be watching you guys. The mix between the showcase and story telling makes the whole map reveal so much better. So far everything looks amazing in warhammer 3.
My God. Its so much more beautiful than number 2. . . . .which itself was glorious. Looks like you learned somethings from your experience with three kingdoms 🤔😉
Did the art style change? It looks a bit more "cartoony". It also looks more bright and pleasant combined with the lighting. That is fine for some zones, but being a darker and more gritty fantasy setting is one of the main appeals of the Warhammer franchise.
Khang Nguyễn Lương Quốc I did go back and look back at the campaign map spotlights for 1 and 2. It is definitely is a bit more of a cartoon art style with more flat colors, rounded edges and less detailed textures. But it also looks a bit more clean and shiny, while the previous worlds looked more grimy and worn. I don't think simply putting a blue filter over zones like Kislev is the solution. The terrain and land itself needs to look more harsh and uninviting. As it looks now it seems like a nice place to have a mountain cottage and go skiing, while in reality it should make you go "F*ck no I don't want to live there!".
It would be problematic if the Mountains of Mourne looked too similar to the other ranges or Cathay looked like the Empire, harder to tell where you are at first glance and reduces the variety of regions - it would feel to homogenous on the Immortal Empires map.
@@ThatTCG I hope they take there time honestly. Rather than rush it out. I'm gonna enjoy playing this map on its won for a while. Immortal Empires if I could control what is done. I'd wait until all the new factions where balanced so that the sandbox didn't create the same empires every game. Balanced so that it could be a proper sandbox, meaning depending on AI descisions certain factions could rise and fall each game. Rather than every game has the order tide here due to the map giving the advantage=Ulthuan, or Dark Elves steam roll/get steam rolled by Chaos. And no changes to that other than plopping them in the map.
The map looks very pretty so far, but I all the dramatic camera movement makes it hard to judge the size of the places explored, and that's without getting into how we've mostly skipped most of the map to show the homelands of only 3 of the 7 playable races that'll be around at launch.
Woud be cool if when you play as Chaos gods and invade Cathay if when you courrupt the land the buidlings change and if the floating mountains changed as well like if the waterfalls turned red with blood/corruption colour of faction :O looks amazing!

I like the design choices too, was worried kislev would just be in a frozen wasteland, but they mixed in a good bit of foliage and stuff. One of the best looking starts I’ve seen so far
i remember people complaining about the map and I constantly said to wait until seeing it in game. The map is a gigantic one.
@@wasifabdullah2997 untill you realize that the parts we seen is all the cathey there is, it needs like 3-5 more regions to be actually biggest nation
Of course it is big. The whole faction is just basically a courtship for the chinese markets. They need those chinese players and china money.
GotDAYUM. As a lifelong Warhammer player, seeing these regions that were formerly just whispers get full-blown, fully-realized regions makes my old heart full. Here's hoping we get to play them in whatever the new tabletop game looks like!
This looks so good! Excited for the chaos wastes reveal
I like how the map makes use of the terrain and it would be cool to see the rest of the map, but i think the devs want us to see the rest of the map a bit later on when the game releases
Gotta love how at 5:29 when the armies of tzeentch come it's open
I like the new map it looks great, my only complaint is the possible exclusion of very far eastern lands like Nippon but otherwise very good job. i can't wait to see how chaos corruption works
Can't wait to see the realms of chaos like this
Wow. This new map is really impressive but Cathay is especially GORGEOUS. I can't wait to play as the Dragons to hold back the hordes of Chaos.
I didn't expect the map to look this good. I hope it will look like this in game.
@@Krispen_Wah at the start but it will eventually gets better we saw they absolutely smash WH 1 and 2
@@Krispen_Wah what did they lie about?
@@Krispen_Wah There's always somebody ready to whinge about something that hasn't even happened yet.
That ogre area looks like Nagrand! Awesome!
We know why you posted this now, and I'll say you didn't have to, but we appreciate it NONETHELESS
Why did they?
I wonder if the music playing in the background is our first look at upcoming battle themes? Loved those strings in the Kislev portion.
a cheeky Plains of Zharr cameo nice
I really hope that settlements will change their appearance based on who is occupying them. I missed that in WH 2.
I hope not. It is more realistic that cities keep their original cultural aspect.
Hope the Immortal Empires combined map will receive all the nice upgrades we're seeing. Good stuff
Yeah, I would easily wait a little longer for the combined map if that means they polish the old stuff up to be up to par with the new map. Maybe even make Lustria bigger again, and dont squish the new stuff together. A man can dream
This made me realize how badly we need a seasons mechanic, it will be so weird to see kislev full of snow while the empire and bretonnia are in a constant summer.
Man this makes me really excited to see how beautiful the new mortal empires map will be with these graphics
This map looks amazing. Honestly I can't wait to play Mortal Empires and see the WHOLE MAP
Glad for the reveal I've been desperate to see the map. Would have been nice to have a shot seeing the whole map though. That way I could start planning my schemes and strategies.
Im sure some on Reddit are stitching the brief glimpse together as we speak/type.
"Many-Maaany schemes today! Ftftftftftftf...."
This maps looks huge, beautiful and I can't wait to play it! It looks like Kislev has been expanded so much which is brilliant. And all these new lands and armies will be so fun to learn and defeat!
That’s what she said
Campaign design looks very smooth, I think those trees definitely look better than in WH II. So many little sceneries with such detail. The map will be gorgeous to look at.
You think trees will still change acording to race???
Planting summer trees in the chaos waist with HE
@@theonesithtorulethemall I hope so. It was a neat feature and a way to change the look of the map even for races without corruption.
@@theonesithtorulethemall wait they do? How did I not notice that
@@thecrtf4953 It's really noticeable if you conquer the empire with Bretonnia lol
That bastion called Praag is pronounced the same way as my capital Prague (capital of Czech Republic, central Europe). I love it!
Love love love the map. It looks so detailed and colourfull. Also lots of choke points we can use to on the defense. *chefs kiss*
I really like the details on these maps, like the white tigers and sabertusks. I also imagine the different lords on the map will each be a different faction.
The map looks gorgeous. Looking forward to it.
Played Total War since the first shogun. It’s amazing what the campaign map evolved into!
This is only half the map bois, we still the Realm of Chaos
I’m not a fan of the artstyle change but it looks like a good map regardless
moving from dark/grim fantasy setting, to world of warcraft. Not a fan.
I for one don't mind it, it's easier to read where you are at a given time. Which might be very helpful once the Immortal Empires map comes out.
@@FestorFreak I can understand where you're coming from but I personally never really had that issue, the twwh2 map was plenty readable imo
@@dekuscrub9583 And thats fair. Everyone is a bit different and largely it comes down to personal preference.
I've been waiting for this!
The map looks so much more vibrant and colorful than the previous games, kinda reminds me of the changes between Civ V and VI. I like it. Everything seems to pop more.
Definitely. Looks great!
That was my exact thought. I love the semi-realism as much as the next TW/Warhammer fan but something about that *slightly* bright and cartoon-y art style really ties these bizarre factions together.
Yeah remind me too of the change between civ 5 and 6.. not again… cartoon style is everywhere now 😕
I’ve watched this video 5-10 times now, relooking over all the details. I like that when zooming around the map in the video they falter over the Dark Lands and the Plains of the North. Possibly hinting at Dawi-Zharr and the Hobgoblin Khanate??
WH3 is already extremely promising with what they’ve shown us, cannot wait!!
I know they have said they plan on one day having all 18 races in the games, chaos dwarves included
Thank you for making Cathy look and feel different then anything from the first two games!
This is how all gaming companies should be, they all should be watching you guys. The mix between the showcase and story telling makes the whole map reveal so much better. So far everything looks amazing in warhammer 3.
This looks amazing!!! Well done!! I want to see the chaos waste now! I imagine they are waiting after the reveal of the 9th. ;)
So many new places, so many new factions. Can't wait to conquer everything with the Empire.
I wouldn't use the word "cartoony", more colorful? Definitely. Though 100% agree that Kislev should be more *B l u e*
As it looks now it seems like a nice place to have a mountain cottage and go skiing, while in reality it should make you go "F*ck no I don't want to live there!".
i totally agree.. it looks much to bright and toony to be Warhammer.
Looks like the 3K style if you ask me, they might be going for it cause it makes it easier to tell what stuff is.
It would be problematic if the Mountains of Mourne looked too similar to the other ranges or Cathay looked like the Empire, harder to tell where you are at first glance and reduces the variety of regions - it would feel to homogenous on the Immortal Empires map.
The map is way flatter than I thought it was gonna be for all the mountainous regions.
Yes! And now an updated Mortal Empire!
That's not done yet.
Mortal Empires will take at least six months to come out. Just letting you know so you don't get disappointed.
What i like is that the textures are not flickering and the shimmering effects are also gone, i hope this isnt a render video :D
The map looks very pretty so far, but I all the dramatic camera movement makes it hard to judge the size of the places explored, and that's without getting into how we've mostly skipped most of the map to show the homelands of only 3 of the 7 playable races that'll be around at launch.
6 of the 11 legendary lords though (arguably 5 if you don't count skrag as he doesn't start where they showed him)
This looks awesome. I can't wait to put my hands on this!
Nice!!! That great wall looks epic!
But when do we get details on the diplomacy rework?
Woud be cool if when you play as Chaos gods and invade Cathay if when you courrupt the land the buidlings change and if the floating mountains changed as well like if the waterfalls turned red with blood/corruption colour of faction :O looks amazing!
This is beautiful holy moly.. Can't wait to play it ! You've done an inimaginable work, grrrreat job Creative Assembly !
Awesome work on the Bastion specifically. Looks impressive.
But we want the MAW!
This is looking absolutely amazing, really great job Warhammer team. PS: I closed my eyes and imagined a world where the PC HW is available and I can actually play it.
Ice Queen: You're here to fight against Chaos, right?
Karl Franz: 😃
Ice Queen: ...Right?
Karl Franz: 😃
I love how gorgeous Cathay looks, will be playing them right away and defending those beautiful lands atop those amazing Bastion Walls from the nasty nurglings! Ahh I can't wait >.
This map looks pretty big. Love it.
Need more space to add ind , nippon, Khuresh , kurgans, hobgoblins and high elves
great map, just wondering about how to move past settlements i wouldn't own as they seems to block the paths in the orge kingdoms
eat them of course
military access agreement or destroy them probably. Or underway/beastpaths
you are only blocked by settlements of factions you are at war with
Loving the map flyover! Might need a bit more detail, but the scale is far greater than I'd hoped for!
its. . .its. . .its so beautiful, thank you, thank you guys for working on this map and making it look so amazing and unique; its like a beautiful model design, i barely have the words to describe how great this is with its details and landscaping and- OMG the great bastion wall looks AWESOME; AAAAHHHH ITS JUST ALL SO GOOD I WANT IT NOW.
This is awesome I'm amazed how they will expand Kislev with what we already know is there
Why would you need gates in the Great Bastion if they lead directly into the Chaos Wastes though?
Because sometimes it's better to lunch preemtive attacks against barbarian tribes before the group together.
Damn this looks amazing. Cathay is gorgeous
It looks amazing!! I hope they redesign the mortal empires part 3 map to this style as well 😍
My excitement cannot be contained. I'm worried I won't be able to live with such excitement till the game's release.
For so many releases being disappointing this year, this map is gorgeous and detailed, filled with life, WH3 will be awesome!
I can feel the excitement building already within my inner Henry Cavill.
