I served in the military in the 70's in Japan. I was near yokohama and there were ramen noodle shops all over the place. I was more near rural towns, so they were small mom and pop shops. So good.
You probably live in a city or big town, that's possible even in America, just in more rural areas. I say America because I am and I always thought "midwest nice" was a myth until I went the bigger coastal towns [Jersey and Cali being two of the three] and everyone was so inexcusably rude and sad. I'm not surprised more crime happens in big cities, peoole just go around pissing each other off 😂 Rambling aside, I came back to the midwest with new respect and a refreshed perspective.

OSHI!! :D :D I even ate Sashimi fish that was still moving, haha :) I never had the courage to visit a Fugu-ya, however. :D

I'm an American, so I was taught that slurping my food is very rude. I love Japanese food and I have visited many Japanese restaurants in America and Japan, so I am trying to adjust to a new version of table manners. I enjoy Kosuke's channel and it is helping me to learn more about the way things are done in Japan.
Wonder if its an American thing, in New Zealand we don't care if you slurp or don't even though we speak English, I reckon large open mouth chewing is considered more rude, i don't think anyone would want to hear meaty squishy noises.
I love noodles! Now I'm hungry and want some ramen, lol. Slurping noodles doesn't bother me, any more than watching someone from a culture different from mine (American here) that eats things with their fingers that I would use a fork or spoon for. Every culture has its own traditions, and those are what makes things special.

Oh, my taste buds had an eye opening experience. Now I put vegetables, meat in mine plus an egg. I just can't eat them plain anymore... My stepsister called one day while I was eating a bowl and said something about the noise I was making and I quickly explained that's how they're supposed to be eaten. She said it was rude and I told her in a number of cultures it'd be rude to not slurp or make noise. She also served in the Army but never went overseas. I also told her I'm not going to stop eating or enjoying what I'm eating for her. And yes, I do eat mine with chopsticks.
I love all noodle concepts from around the different countries. Slurping does not bother me. I like getting to show my appreciation for the chef's abilities. I haven't gotten to travel abroad. It is one of the wishes I know I can't fulfill. I am saddened by that fact as I love food. I really enjoy ramen, udon, and such dishes very much. I would love to be able to experience it from the countries of origin. This an amazing video. I love the fact that you explain cultural difference, like the noodle slurping sound. When I am with my Asian friends and we go to Japanese restaurants, I feel comfortable slurping the noodles but if I go with my family, I try to be as quiet as possible because they see the slurping sound as rude. Love Ichiran ramen, didn't know the sound had to do with ramen as well! Arigato.
I've watched more than several Ichiran videos, this was amongst the top for enjoyment. My favorite is also a rich tonkotsu, spicy, with all the trimmings and firm noodles. Someday, I'll enjoy this bowl from Ichiran!! 😋👍🌻🍜 A really nice video. ❤
I travel to Japan for work and love everything about the country. Especially the food. My favorite ramen place is in Nagoya, they have a spicy ramen that is amazing. Also Sapporo, because it always seems to be snowing there and there's no better time for ramen then when its cold.
McDonalds is basically this now. They rarely have people up front taking orders. They understaff like crazy and keep everyone in the kitchen so you have to wait for someone to come up front if you don't want to use the kiosk.
@@shawnselvaag522 While the McDonald's that I go to has plenty of staff, I like to use the kiosk when I order a meal. I get to stand and ponder over the choices right in front of me while the tv menus at the counter seem to change over before I finish looking at them. I also have an issue with other noises messing up my hearing. The kiosk is a win-win for me. If I just want a coffee, I will order it at the counter. I don't know how busy it usually is as I only go to have an after lunch coffee once a week with friends

i go to university in the US and we have an ichiran style ramen restaurant near the campus. the process and setup is almost identical, we just don't have the built in water spigot for each seat :) it's surprising it exists here since i live in a small town in the middle of the country, not in a big city
As an Indian, I just had an opportunity in Thailand to try.. it was awesome and tasty.. never has such tasty noodles before... I know that wasn't authentic yet it tasted so good

Thank you for your video. Regarding 5:42, that opened egg revealed a soft boiled egg rather than a hard boiled egg. The distinction is that a soft boiled egg has its yolk remain soft and runny from partial cooking whereas a hard boiled has its yolk completely solidified into hard and firm from thorough cooking.
Your video reminded me of the time when we went to eat at Ichiran Osaka 7 years ago. I enjoyed the experience. I didn't know that the dividers could be removed until I watched your video or that you could order more at the table.

I think most British "foodies" understand the traditional slurping of ramen and would (hopefully) not be offended, especially if done by a Japanese person.
I'm kind of mind-blown that they allow you to order additional noodles for the remaining broth. In America, they would definitely just make you order a whole new bowl if you were still hungry. If I ever have the pleasure of visiting Japan, I would get fat because I would never just drink the remaining broth. I would just be like, "More noodles please!" until the broth was gone. 😂
It’s the same here in Delmarva (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia); you can order a half serving of noodles or rice for very little money. The only problem with that is it you have to know about it it is overcooked.
I travelled to Japan a few years ago with a tour group. If I go again, would love to explore much more, especially the restaurants and what the Japanese enjoy eating. Making ramen dishes on my own through TH-cam...got me hooked. Thank you for you videos!!!
Interesting to watch the differences among culture customs in different countries 👍In South America, we do not slurp, and we eat noodles with a fork and sometimes with the help of a spoon. Still, we love Ramen Noodles! 😁✌
Slurping allows you to eat it hot. Slurping also aerates the noodles and broth which intensifying the flavor. Otherwise, you can let it sit and cool down that would make the noodles soggy.
I love the setup. It's great for people who want to go out to eat alone but are shy or for people who feel uncomfortable eating in public. The booth looks cosy and like you can concentrate on enjoying the food.
There’s this amazing ramen shop down the road and I always get the tonkotsu. As a western hispanic, this slurping is also what I do when I eat noodles! :)) I love this video
I am an introvert but not a social outcast. Went there once and found the experience utterly depressing, so much so I couldn’t even finish my bowl of noddles. Will never return again; don't care how good the food is supposed to be.
Same thoughts. I don't like how everyone's secluded. Best meals that I have had and still have was due to the ambiance, and the people/interactions around me.

The best ramen I’ve had (yet) was in a Japanese Steakhouse in Chicago; I work for a Japanese company and my boss took me there for dinner. He explained it was Tonkatsu Ramen. I will be traveling to Japan for the first time in a few days and spending time in multiple prefectures and am looking forward to trying the ramen in each of them!

Thank you for showing us how japanese people enjoy ramen. Here in the middle part of germany we dont have many restaurants where you can est good ramen, most if us only know instant ramen. I like the idea of slurping noodles, so you can eat them hot but not burn your mouth cause you suck in cold air too. For old people here it is a sign for bad behavior but for me its a sign that the food is so good that you just cant wait for it to cool down. And my mother in law is half italian, she said that italian people do slurp the spaghetti too.

If this were a thing near me, I'd go there twice a week. We have a very large Japanese community where I live and so we're blessed with authentic Japanese cuisine, too. However, the open plan in the restaurants I frequent very much promotes bringing a friend, and none of my friends are as much in love with ramen as I am. Don't want to be the one loner in the shop, so my noodle intake isn't nearly as high as I'd like it to be :') Ajitama Tonkotsu Ramen is by far my favorite. So incredibly good.
We usually go to New York and they have it in Time Square. Same setting and menu. The ramen is buttery and delicious. The broth is amazing. And I always get it with no salt and medium heat and oil. I’m not a ramen person but when I discovered Ichiran I’m obsessed. Love the macha pudding.
I visited Fukuoka last December and enjoyed eating a lot of ramen! Tonkotsu is my favourite, and even though I loved the ramen at Ichiran and Ippudo, I visited several small ramen shops that were very good too!
The uniqueness of this type of restaurant would really be successful in the right places in the US. I would definitely visit this restaurant. That Ramen looks absolutely delicious!

Man, I just ate korean food, and seeing this now I am craving ramen. Subscribed, as I love ramen, and seeing the map of Japan, with different types, miso, etc. just increased my knowledge and will try ramen from all region here in Canada

i go to university in the US and we have an ichiran style ramen restaurant near the campus. the process and setup is almost identical, we just don't have the built in water spigot for each seat :) it's surprising it exists here since i live in a small town in the middle of the country, not in a big city

I am from the states and I I slurp my noodles when I eat ramen in public, it's how you are supposed to eat it. Don't stifle your slurp!
Thank you for your video. Regarding 5:42, that opened egg revealed a soft boiled egg rather than a hard boiled egg. The distinction is that a soft boiled egg has its yolk remain soft and runny from partial cooking whereas a hard boiled has its yolk completely solidified into hard and firm from thorough cooking.
Your video reminded me of the time when we went to eat at Ichiran Osaka 7 years ago. I enjoyed the experience.

I think most British "foodies" understand the traditional slurping of ramen and would (hopefully) not be offended, especially if done by a Japanese person.
I'm kind of mind-blown that they allow you to order additional noodles for the remaining broth. In America, they would definitely just make you order a whole new bowl if you were still hungry. If I ever have the pleasure of visiting Japan, I would get fat because I would never just drink the remaining broth. I would just be like, "More noodles please!" until the broth was gone. 😂
most ramen placed in america you can order extra noodles for your remaining broth. At least all the places ive been too in NY, MA, and CT
You can order as many sides of noodles as you want for about $2-3, here in California.

Are you sure your not just assuming that because of angst for the US?
It’s the same here in Delmarva (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia); you can order a half serving of noodles or rice for very little money. The only problem with that is it you have to know about it it is overcooked.

I travelled to Japan a few years ago with a tour group. If I go again, would love to explore much more, especially the restaurants and what the Japanese enjoy eating. Making ramen dishes on my own through TH-cam...got me hooked. Thank you for you videos!!!

Interesting to watch the differences among culture customs in different countries 👍In South America, we do not slurp, and we eat noodles with a fork and sometimes with the help of a spoon. Still, we love Ramen Noodles! 😁✌
Im italian, I eat spaghetti wit h the fork and noodles whit chopstick, i dont know why, maybe is a form of respect for the food?
Slurping allows you to eat it hot. Slurping also aerates the noodles and broth which intensifying the flavor. Otherwise, you can let it sit and cool down that would make the noodles soggy.
Slurping solves everything:-)
I love the setup. It's great for people who want to go out to eat alone but are shy or for people who feel uncomfortable eating in public. The booth looks cosy and like you can concentrate on enjoying the food.

There’s this amazing ramen shop down the road and I always get the tonkotsu. As a western hispanic, this slurping is also what I do when I eat noodles! :)) I love this video
I am an introvert but not a social outcast. Went there once and found the experience utterly depressing, so much so I couldn’t even finish my bowl of noddles. Will never return again; don't care how good the food is supposed to be.

The best ramen I’ve had (yet) was in a Japanese Steakhouse in Chicago; I work for a Japanese company and my boss took me there for dinner. He explained it was Tonkatsu Ramen. I will be traveling to Japan for the first time in a few days and spending time in multiple prefectures and am looking forward to trying the ramen in each of them!

Here in the middle part of germany we dont have many restaurants where you can est good ramen, most if us only know instant ramen.
I like the idea of slurping noodles, so you can eat them hot but not burn your mouth cause you suck in cold air too.
For old people here it is a sign for bad behavior but for me its a sign that the food is so good that you just cant wait for it to cool down.
And my mother in law is half italian, she said that italian people do slurp the spaghetti too.
06:13. Slurping noodle is suppose to aerate the noodles thus enhancing the flavor. Whenever I tried slurping I mostly splattered with my noodles fluttering

I think eating noisy shows our enjoyment of the food. But ... yes ... I live in America where I get scolded sometimes. Not invited too. Oh well ... I still love it and will not stop.

If this were a thing near me, I'd go there twice a week.
We have a very large Japanese community where I live and so we're blessed with authentic Japanese cuisine, too.
However, the open plan in the restaurants I frequent very much promotes bringing a friend, and none of my friends are as much in love with ramen as I am. Don't want to be the one loner in the shop, so my noodle intake isn't nearly as high as I'd like it to be :')
Ajitama Tonkotsu Ramen is by far my favorite. So incredibly good.

We usually go to New York and they have it in Time Square. Same setting and menu. The ramen is buttery and delicious. The broth is amazing. And I always get it with no salt and medium heat and oil. I’m not a ramen person but when I discovered Ichiran I’m obsessed. Love the macha pudding.
I visited Fukuoka last December and enjoyed eating a lot of ramen! Tonkotsu is my favourite, and even though I loved the ramen at Ichiran and Ippudo, I visited several small ramen shops that were very good too!
