In this diy upcycled patchwork jeans tutorial, I will walk you step by step with clear instructions on how to create this look. You will be creating a pair of one of a kind couture jeans that would cost a lot of money if you were to purchase in a boutique or specialty online shop. If you sell these items, these were a top seller for me when I sold online and in my vendor spaces. Best part, everything is thrifted and cost less than $15.00 to make!

Our Dear Ms. Myers: If the denim you are sewing is too thick, or hard to sew, pound the thick parts with a hammer, on a hard surface first. This spreads the threads and makes it easier for your needle to get through! Doing this has saved me many a broken needle or the machine shutting down!!

I was taught in a Jean making class from an elderly woman that if you take a hammer and pound the thick bulk in the seams they are much easier to sew. I do it all the time and it makes sewing the very thick parts a breeze.
    Love your video and creativity!

Thanks to you I am back to my happy place, my sewing machine!!! I can't begin to tell you how much it means to me to be sewing again! I just turned 59 and I have been sewing for 51 years!! My amazing grandmother taught me how to sew, starting with doll clothes. When I am sewing I can just feel her beaming with happiness. I think that's one of the reasons I love it sew much!! Thank you again for your beautiful tutorials, they are appreciated immensely.

So looking forward to trying this for my daughter. I have several pieces of actual 60's and 70's fabrics that are leftovers from other projects. I think those will make great patches. Also I have a couple with flowers that will work well like yours. You create the cutest, fashionable items. Thank you so much for teaching this. All your tips are very much welcome and helpful.

If you type in realistic Cloth dolls on TH-cam they should come up. Some videos are very old. But there are Recent ones in the last year or so. But FB is mostly where I'm found Under my name. My trick for sewing on denim when I dont have blue thread is gray thread. Its great. Old thread is probably rotten and wont last long especially in the wash cycle. Its easy to test the thread strength. Grab a length of it and pull it hard. If it doesnt break, I use it. Anything I intend to sell must not fall apart, but if its for me then I may risk it if I cant leave the house. OK lets keep sewing. Great project. Lavoie Boho NC USA 2023

We used to wear real patches over the holes on our garments; but, we didn't want anyone to notice. I always hated the patches that Mom ironed on; because, those patches made the fabric stiff (and those patches showed). Time changes everything. We just watched you sew patches where no holes were. Then we watched you make many holes with a box cutter; and, you sewed dark patches to the backs of all the holes to make sure they showed. You worked hard to make that nice pair of jeans look ragged. Yep, time changed everything. Patches and the ragged look are high fashion now.

Hello, im thoroughly enjoying binging your videos as ive just found you and am a new subby. I was wondering if you are familiar with " free motion stitching?"
This feature enables you to walk freely or sketch around shapes as though you are drawing. Its so much easier thsn straight stitching around difficult shapes. You could have easily, after having quilted your panel, to stich around each rectangle isolating each. It would still fray nicely and would keep it from being open in spots as it was not sewn down entirely, which may have been your intention. Another utuber, "stitches by julia" will give you an idea of what i mean. I believe it will open up a new world for you. I do LOVE how youve gone about this piece, as it was a new way unfamiliar to me!! I just wanted you to know of another way that you can incorporate into your work. Oh, it also allows you to do
"Sketch painting" which again opens up new doors of creativity. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR WORK, THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR EXPERTISE!! ❤

I've mixed fabrics, but use all natural fabrics when I dye my items. Laundering depends on the specific item. I recommend oxyclean detergent for vintage items. Most often on my garments, I turn them inside out, wash on gentle cycle in cold water and line dry 🥰

Hi, I'm definitely going to try this.. but I was just wondering, is it necessary to open up the jeans all the way to the waistband? Why couldn't you just do it up into the pocket area. Wouldn't you still have enough room to sew it, or is there a reason you do that? Also, would it look okay if you did a zigzag Stitch around each rectangle instead of doing the lines up and down?

    • @tmyershandmade978
      @tmyershandmade978  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Sure a zig zag would be great! You do whatever your heart desires! The reason I cut all the way up is so the final seem on the outside is smooth, without bunching or puckering. Have fun!🤗💕💕💕💕💕

I have a question I have lost a lot of weight and have a bunch of jeans I love and thought it would be fun to do some of your funs stuff. I like the legs being baggy I don't like the waste being big and I'm not a fan of belts how do you recommend bring in the waste of the pants of the jean with out it looking wonky?

That's tricky, I may have to study this and do a video. Maybe viewers here can help.🤗💞💞💞

There are some good TH-cam on taking in the waist of jeans. I think the key is that you do need to remove/shorten the waistband. I did it at the back - Seam rip the waistband but don't cut it off. Then take several tucks across the back of the pants. Try them on! Once the body of the pants fits, trim the waistband siren and sew it back on.

For me, I think the outer seams seem easier.🥰🥰🥰

Would it be possible for you to provide me with the name of the designer that you got the copyright strike from? I.e. screenshot of the picture of the pants that you did but I can’t find a picture and I’m not sure if that picture got deleted from my devices when the video got removed? I have no idea but if you could just provide me with the name of that designer, then I can look it up online. Thank you for all of your hard work! Blessings from Kansas.🥰
